  1. wow Ivan…….

Looking at the map, it will be cycling along the walking path on the main road? Aiyo, this long distance cycling route , I dare not try leh.

So, Lily and I have decided to WALK instead. And will meet the cyclists for dinner at AMK food court. Cheers!

  2. Ah Nee,

Most of the route are on PCN or pavements.
Even for the “walking paths” that you had mentioned….
One for walks and One (SEPERATE) tarmac-ed path for cycling!

So, better you both do some cycling….not that you both needs it BUT it’s your BIKES that NEEDS IT!
Or else your bike frames will be rusting away….and tyres cracking, brake-pads harden-ed liao….you know?

Every cyclists will fall down during rides in their life-time…..it is part and parcel of the hobby/game.
I have lost count of the numbers of scars on my knee-caps and wrist areas….the last few were from XC ride in VN.

If you still not cycling, then better lend or rent or sell off your bikes lah!!
Or better still – give them away to those (worthy ones) who couldn’t affort it but wishes to ride….or join the event.

  3. RE-POSTED HERE for Riders Info Purposes Only:

    Ivan Lim Says at http://silverhairsclub.com/?p=4640:

Hi Mary #20 or Whom It May Concern,

There is NO particular reason for 2013 January’s Cycling Event to coincide with the SHC Monthly Walks.

In fact, the “SCHEDULED RIDES on every 3rd Saturdays of the Month” starts only in the month of March 2013….see Lily’s post on this in Nov2012 SHC Mthly Cycling Event.

We are fully aware that the SHC Monthly Walks are on every 2nd Saturdays of the month unless otherwise stated.

As the walks are done or start/end all over Singapore, it is not so easy for the two SHC groups to come together due to the fact that Cyclists have their bikes (aka equipment and the routes to consider amongst many other red-carpetted contraints associated with Cycling Events for SHCians).

Since AMK is quite close to MY USUAL CYCLING ROUTES/AREA and we (CharlesChua+myself) thot that it will be GREAT that both groups can meet up during dinner-time for once – THAT’S ALL!!

Please do not pyscho-read too much into this, not good for physical & mental health and don’t be bothered by vine-tales or with voices bouncing around your ears…..

    Cheers!

  5. Terence #6,
Re-membership issues…..just got “bink” from one of them!
UserID “SHC1209” had registered on 20Sep2012, wrote in 3 times but to date, still did not get PW to login to SHC Website and did not even get an acknowledgement from SHC Admin too. Had given up!!
I also remember ShanLung had the same problem too. So, does Calvin Toh and Jaybee! Who else registered last year before even the New Membership Rules were penned? I don’t know cos they did not broadcast it to anybody…and it’s not their biz to broadcast it anyway…
    Btw, WHO is admin@silverhairsclub.com???

  6. Terence #9,
    Have conveyed your request already.

    Ann #10,
Thank you for your support. Looking forward to see you riding.

  7. Hi Ivan #11,

You have been very energetic to re-create the cycle group. I am sure the group will grow bigger.

Joanathan Hiew has just be verified as a member. The others have not responded. I suspect you have used different names as non of their names are in our members’ list.

Guys/Gals, as the numbers of riders had exceeded 15pax, would need some help or volunteers from the group for:

    – Sweeper role (must have now…)
    – Marker role (if possible)

p/s: We may change dinner point due S11 Food Court Blk 711 AMK has an “F” rating for food….

  12. Thanks everyone in the cycling group, for your patience. I dropped out as I was struggling with my gears. Went off to the bicycle shop again at Hougang, repairman said nothing wrong!! Think I may ditched this bike…

I hope all of you (both cyclists and walkists) enjoyed today’s outing!

  13. #18 Ann, I should have joined you instead of following them all the way to AMK. In fact, I found it very straining to catch up with their speed. Nonetheless, I made it to AMK with them. Ivan, Charles and Yat Sing were gracious enough to ride at my slow pace and to wait for me. Thanks.

  14. Hi Ivan,
Thanks you for organising the cycling and lead the group to a punctual start at 5pm last evening. For much of the course, the weather was as good as anyone could have wished for. Admittedly, I didn’t kept pace and simply enjoyed the casually ride from behind the pack. Perhaps I might have inconvenienced some of you to wait for slower ones like me, to catch up..sorry for that and at same time, thank you. I spend the last month mostly indoor because of the heat wave in Perth and coming to Spr just a day before, this cycling do pose some risk if I have over exerted. Anyhow as it turned out, it was a truly enjoyable ride and I am sure others in the Group felt the same too. Thanks you once again, Ivan and CharlesC .
    HC

  15. Thank you everyone for turning up! That’s reward enough for me cos it’s difficult to get the riding group to exceed 15pax for SHC cycling event.

    Ann#18,
Aiyah….I think your bike hinting to you that you should bring him out for rides more often….if not he will let you down like yesterday! LOL!! Btw, don’t ditched it..just get her oiled and tuned would do.

    Thomas#19,
You did well lah!! Thumbs up!! Inspite your weaker physical conditions, hope you recover fully soon and tar-kar-chia with us more often now that you have a foldie…GREAT!

    HC#20,
Yes, we did had a slow start but we will wait for slow riders – not a problem. Only issue would be for riders with rental bikes ….. cos they need to return rented bikes by 8pm ….. and did not complete the route to AMK.

NEXT ride coming up will be this coming Saturday, 19Jan2013. Details will be sent by separate emails to all riders in my cycling list.

Lastly, A BIG THANK YOU to our un-named SPONSOR who had graciously paid (I buy but he PAYS – Great rite, LOL!) for the Motorola Walkie-Talkie Set to better manage the SHC Cycling Event….

    Ride Safe!
    IvanLim

  16. Hi Ivan,

Thanks to you for organising this ride. We had vey good weather indeed and I think the ride was enjoyed by all generally.

    Ann G @ #18,

I think you should decide if you enjoy cycling and want to take it up as an activity. If you do, you should be able to commit a certain amount of time and resources to it.
You will get more exercise, there are many PCNs to explore and the combination of public transport, especially the MRT, and a foldie will enable you to ride in many other PCNs around Singapore.
You will also be surprised at the number of cycling groups available here in Singapore, and the number of rides they do. As it is, I am seeing, hearing more groups exploring Thailand, Lao, Taiwan and Malaysia on their bikes. Just yesterday 1 of the cyclists was telling me how some of his friends just get together, buy an overnight bus ticket to Ipoh, pack some clothes and their foldie, arrive next morning, (bus has berth), cycle around Ipoh, try out the various food joints, (after all they are true blue Singkies), shop, try some adventure sports like white water rafting, (yes in Ipoh) and back to Singapore by night bus, all arbitrary, impromptu. While we were cycling yesterday, there was a SHC group who went to Malacca to cycle.

These are not necessarily hard core cyclists, but recreational ones. They don’t wear cycling shorts or shoes, have expensive continental bicycles, nor cycle 8 hrs a day to get their highs. These are senior citizens, some wear slippers to cycle, not more than 4 hrs, interspersed with some sightseeing activity, foodie types. They know what they want, where to get it and how.

So if you are interested SHC is still a good place to start because generally the EOs are quite careful and responsible. Also you can get quite some relevant and useful info on bike choices, prices etc. The othere cycling groups are quite strict, punctual and very group driven. If you fall and you decide you don’t want to continue, go to a hospital, doctor by yourself, the ride goes on, tyre problems? take 20 mins and meet us at the next check point, see you there/then, sick? got the runs? take a taxi. I am not advocating any particular approach but that it would open up a whole new activity for many others.

While choosing a bike, learn to choose one that you will use for the next 5 years, then it will be better in the long run.

Thomas, All of us were commenting that you did very well yeaterday and I hope you enjoyed yourself. You are most welcome to join us for any ride anytime, now that you can recognise most of us. We almost missed you yesterday. Hope you get many more enjoyable kilometres with your Vitesse.

    Hou Chong,

No apologies necessary. Good to have you back again in Singapore.

Lastly a big thank you to our sponsor too, whoever he may be.

  17. Charles #22, Thanks for spotting me. It was actually quite a punishing ride for 31km. I had no time to soak in the sights along the PCN. If only I can use my motorised bike….

  18. I am glad everyone enjoyed themselves, it was great fun which I missed.

#21, Ivan – Thanks for the advice. Its a “she” and she has served me pretty well, except that I neglect to maintain her.

#22, Charles – Thanks too for your suggestion and comments. Will seriously consider joining after reading through the enticement. Yes, I agree, from past experience with SHC activities, the EOs and fellow members are careful, responsible and considerate people. Kudos to them!
