  1. Hi Terrence

When I was young, I had joined a folk song group. I learnt some folk songs from there (especially the Peter, Paul & Mary ones). I also can so some simple guitar playing.

I haven’t sung song and played guitar for many year, but, I think I still can remember some of them.

So, count me in for some very simple song together with some very, very simple guitar playing during the gathering

    Andrew Yeung

  2. I bought a portable Casio LK55 two years ago but have never got down to mastering it. Anyone SHC willing to tuition a slow learner and others like me ??…the fee… just a cup of coffee!!

  3. Charles, I am also wanting to learn the keyboard. I have a Yamaha PSR-195. Maybe it would be more worth the while for the teacher to teach two students at a time.

  4. Me too. I have a Technics keyboard at home and it is collecting dust. Anybody willing to teach? With more students, the fee can be more than a cup of coffee. Perhaps, a meal, right – fellow students?

  5. I always thought the oldies were goodies – meaning they’re evergreen. I love old broadway songs and if you don’t mind a bit of rusty piano playing, you’ve got a volunteer here.

  6. I definite want… have got a guitar, tried self-taught but not quite got the hang of it. Need help desparately, can afford several cups of coffee.

Andrew, I can join you, but would love to have Ronald in this… understand he can play well… if he will accept cups of coffee, that is.

  7. Hi Terence,

Happy to know that you are musically inclined and talented too.

I can’t play any musical instruments like you guys and gals but I would like to sing along and perhaps learn to play.

Will I be eligible to join ?

I love to hear and sing the songs such as He have to Go /Stay , Tell Laura /Tommy I love her/him ,
I really don’t want to know /I really want you to know by Jim Reeves and Skeeter Davies and North to Alaska etc.etc……
the famous golden oldies of the 50s and 60s.

  8. To make active participation happen, perhapos some songs sheets can be distributed at the sing-along since we might not know all the lyrics of all the songs. (Closer to the day when most of the songs are firmed up, I can help make copies of these songs if the singers will email me their songs, tks)

  9. Hi Terence

I played classical piece with my guitar long…. ago and have thought of picking it up again recently. Right timing. Me too, would join in the group.

    Rene

  10. I think our friends are being modest, no doubt they can play their respective musical instruments very well, including Terence humouring the harmonica……….

However, assuming the far-fetched does happen, then we’ll hv an accidental band of the most hilarious type, playing a cacophony of tunes & bringing down the birds to somersault with Steven who will then hv no worry that he has nothing to play, with ah liu clapping like a mad man, soaking in the mirth as the octogenerian wannabes make the day.

If that happens, the funs has only begun………….

  11. Tim,your description/imagery of the SHC band is hilarious….I can picture the skit in my mind with active players from SHC…some very prim and proper and others earnestly playing whatever instruments they may have or just singing with gusto. This brings to mind of the “Keystone Kops” or the movie ” On the way to the Forum”. Guess I better shut up before I give myself away. But I agree…Let the fun begin……..

  12. Hi Ann and other SilverHairs

I have a girlfriend, I knew her when I was young. Once, we are very close together – we met and played with each other every day; I told her my happiness and sorrow; we sang song together.

But, after I migrated to Singapore, I never tried to contact her. Last Sunday, finally, we met again. When I hugged her in my arm, I have a strange feeling – she is so close to me, but I don’t know her completely.

What am I talking about? Who is my girlfriend? – She is my old guitar.

After I say, “I will” to Terrence (I become the first participation of the event – wonderfully, but where are the others), I took my old guitar out from the storeroom. When I held it in my hand, I found that it seem completely new to me. I’ve to dig deep into my memory to find out how to tune it; how to use the chords; how to do the fingering etc, etc… I found that my fingers become clumsy; my fingertips feel pain when I pressed the guitar strings. The memories of the time when I first learn to play guitar all come back to me. The feeling is quite strange and nice.

Sorry for all this nonsense, I just want to share my feeling with others and my grateful to SHC. With SHC, part of my memories (dancing, singing and playing guitar, meeting and chit chat with friends in the coffee shop …) of my good old (young) days comes back to me again. Otherwise, they will hide deep in the dark side of my mind till I ……… Thanks SHC and its founder with all my heart.

    Hi Ann,

Yes, Ronald Wi is a good musician – he know how to compose the music and the lyrics of a song; he play guitar; he also can sing well (he always sing while he was doing the line dances). Besides, he is intelligent and has many interests. I always wonder how can someone do so many things in the limit of time. This proof the God is not fair.

One thing I don’t like him is he used “Guest” to login the SHC website, and use “Allrounder” to say hallo to us. Disgusting. Why? Is all about friendship. Do you like your friend (a man) with a veil on his face and talk to you with a lady’s voice? Surely not for me. Ronald, please, login and say hallo with your own name.

Sure, I’ll like to play guitar and sing song with you and Ronald (Can I also have cups of coffee). May be Ronald, you and me (or some others) can form a group and give a great performance on the event. Then, we become famous in the SHC, then in Singapore, SEAN, Hong Kong, China and the world.

    Dream ……, dream, dream, dream

    Dream ……, dream, dream, dream

Have you heard this song “Dream”

Have we met before in the SHC. Sorry to ask the stupid question. It is because I am an idiot in identify person and remember name (may be that why I afraid to participate in the meeting with many peoples). But, no matter how, I think we’ll meet soon in the near future.

Longing to meet you and sing our first song

    Andrew Yeung

  13. Keep your dreams coming. We have a good problem ie differentiating the learners and the musicians. Looks like we will have a band soon.

  14. Thanks Jie for liking my mad imagination. I dunno ““Keystone Kops” but if we can be as innocent as the Flinstones and brave as Mr Bean, I think we will again make the event a very successful one.

Andrew, I am very envious of your gal friend – easy and inexpensive to maintain, keeps her seductive shape without slimming pills/exercise and she throws no tantrums but hor, still not so good leh. See, what will people think of you if they see you doing what comes naturally with a gf in bed?

So let me be the 2nd to sign up and in btwn playing yr gf, I’ll try to talk you into loving another, and I am sure she will forgive you.

Yes, I too find SHC a place where we can feel young, do young and act young without any embarrassment or pretence.

  15. Hi Tim

You haven’t mentioned the best thing of my girlfriend. When I was with her, my wife won’t jealous and also sang with her together.

    Andrew Yeung

  16. Hi Terence,

Would like to join you all in the sing-a-long. I have always loved to sing the golden oldies songs. Had learnt music before & can read music notes.

  17. Hi Terence

I would like to join in the sing-a-long. I have learned singing technique like diaphragmatic breathing, vowels, vocal, dynamics, posture, song interpretation, etc. Unfortunately, I do not know how to play any musical instrument.

In the past, I always think of if any one who can play the guitar while I am singing, it will be wonderful. I would like to learn guitar/keyboard/piano if any one want to teach silver hair people like me, I do not mind to pay a reasonable fees.

By the way, Fengshan Community Club at Bedok North St 2 (Tel: 64495136)is going to start a new class for “English Karaoke Singing”. Once they got the enough students, the class will start. Understand, the fee will be around $60/- for 3 months. Any interested person may call up the CC for detail enquiries.

Andrew, Ronald Wi and whoever guitar player, do bring along your guitar during Botanics gathering for sing-a-long.

  18. Andrew, you no good leh, now my envy has become jealousy……..how come you so lucky to find a wife so good?

Btw Ann is a beautiful name…..exudes peace, calmness and senerity (as in its Chinese translation). Since jun zi bu tuo ren suo hou, I’ll back you all the way in yr longing to meet ann, anne, annie or any-ant. In return, buy me kopi siw dai.

  19. I resisted to write because I can only sing but cannot play any musical instrument. However, after reading all the comments above, I think its ok to write. Learned to play pop piano for a month and gave up. Now that I have a lot of time on my hands, I would love to learn to play the guitar so that I can sing any song I like with music accompaniment. Like Annie, I am willing to pay for guitar lessons from anyone who wants to teach me. :D
    Warmest Regards

  20. Hi everyone! Like Caroline, I can’t actually play any musical instrument but I can provide some rhythm with a tambourine. In fact anyone can do it, even you Caroline. And I love singing oldies like: Red sails in the sunset, Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White, etc, etc. I’ve got a very thick black song book with hundreds of oldies, including the lyrics and guitar chords. So if any singers out there want to sing a particular song but have forgotten the lyrics, let me know and I will write out the lyrics for you, no problem.

    w

  21. Hi Irene

I’ve just tried to re-practice my guitar and songs, but with many lyrics and chords forgot. Your very thick black song book with hundreds of oldies including the lyrics and guitar chords is really a good news for me. Can I know where can I buy it. Or can I borrow it from you if the book is not available outside now. Thanks

    Andrew Yeung

  22. Yes, Irene me too. I would love to buy the thick black song book with guitar chords. Pls let me know if it is available. Thanks so much.
PS used to have a song book like this but lost it. Thanks and Warmest Regards :D

  23. Hi friends,
I will bring along my songbook –“GOLDEN OLDIES”. Song lyrics and guitar chords are provided .. wondering whether is this the same song book which Irene mentioned earlier ??

  24. Hi all,

Hymm, now we need a drummer or someone who can play some percussions ,bongo ,etc . Maybe we can all have a jam ( preview of it ) this coming Sat walk ? What say you , Andrew and all, either before or after the walk and bring some food and drinks to eat lah ?

    Cheers,
    Allrounder

  25. Suddenly, Irene’s thick black book is hotter than mao’s little red book. It goes to show that good songs endure and unite; words supposedly to inspire will expire.

Seems like no one will sing chinese songs. Since i know no angmo songs other than nursery rhymes, will revise “old macdonald has a farm” and will hope to at least get to yiya yiya orh, and not be left out.

  26. Hi, all!
My goodness, all of a sudden everyone has perked up ; and all because of my very thick black songbook. Unfortunately, it was left me(among other things) by my late husband abt 10 years ago, so I suppose, like him it is “chuit choong”, meaning extinct, not available, not for sale, not in print anymore. But I’d be happy to photocopy the particular song you want. Just let me know its title. You can contact by email: sirenechanb@yahoo.com.sg

  27. Musicians identified
    ———————
Guitarist : 5 – Andrew Yeung, Rene, Kathy, Guest, Jeffrey Wong (learner – Ann)

Pianist : 1 – Debbiely (KIV for time being due to mobility problem of the piano)

Keyboard learner : 4 – Charles Wee, Joy, Yew Kwong, Lily

    Sing-along-singer : PLENTY

LEARNERS, PLEASE STEP ASIDE TILL YOU’RE ABLE TO PLAY THE INSTRUMENT.

With 5 guitarists and plenty of singers with thick song books, we should start planning for a sing-along session cum picnic as our next outdoor gathering. (Not at the Botanic Garden please. We don’t want to compete with the Orchestra there.)

Lower Pierce Reservoir is a good picnic ground for it’s scenic open space. Pick-up points can be arranged for musicians with guitars.

Anybody else has any other ideas or suggestions? Let’s hear it.

  28. Wow, so interesting, look like we going to have a big band.
When is the big event and what time?

LOwer Pierce, any problem for those who dont drive?

  29. From Joyce Gan:
It’s great to bring back memories of the good old days, songs that are evergreen. Though I can’t play any instrument but interested to learn, I’ll just lend my voice for this occassion.

    joyce g.

  30. Hi Michelle,

It is accessible by the short small road between 2 petrol stations along Upper Thomson Road (Esso & Caltex) – Bus No. 163, 167, 169, 855 & 980.

  31. I think it’s abt time we do something constructive like decide on the songs so that songsheets can be prepared. I’ve looked through my (by now “infamous”) song book and picked out 15 song titles of songs which I think are suitable sung in a big group. Out of the 15, we can carry out a popularity poll and narrow the list down to 5 to 8 more popular songs which the majority will enjoy singing. Then, I’ll type out the lyrics and email them to Tim so that he can photocopy them and everyone can have a copy during the actual sing-along. The 15 titles are:
    1. Tie a Yellow Ribbon round the Old Oak Tree
    2. Close to You
    3. I’d like to Teach the World to Sing
    4. Knock 3 times
    5. Rhythm of the Falling Rain
    6. Green Green Grass of Home
    7. Lemon Tree
    8. Those were the Days
    9. Love Potion No. 9
    10. Blowing in the Wind
    11. Bridge over Troubled Waters
    12. 500 Miles
    13. House of the Rising Sun
    14. Take Me Home, Country Road
    15. All Kinds of Everything

  32. Btw Terence, its Harmonica. Also, about food eh? You mean we drink tea only? If its going to be music + picnic, then must have makan also since many said Pierce has good picnic grounds – that is if we going to Pierce. So how?

  33. Hi, Irene, good songs, ok, once the songs hv been finalised, do pls let me hv them to make copies (can email to me @ my email address appearing on the top of my posting, tks !

  34. Steven Chan – can play music instrument, but can sing.

    Correction :-

Steven CAN’T play musical instrument music instrument, but can sing. Pls. amend.

  35. Caroline has become a grand piano. Sorry I can only sing and boogie a little. Can’t play the piano or any other musical instrument. But if anyone conducting group lessons for guitar, pls count me in. And yes, I like the songs recommended. Can I request “Love Potion No 9” to be printed too. Many thanks :D

  36. Hi Terence
My spouse and me are most interested to join your musical group that you are forming soon. We are not able to play any musical instruments but can only lend our voices. At times our friends who got a band who played at parties I myself will join in to sing on the stage, so count us in leh.

    Ronald & Alice Lai

  37. Haha, Steven, long time no see and you returned with a vengeance, hitting 6 postings in 1 breath. But the correction you required viz : “Correction :- Steven CAN’T play musical instrument music instrument…” needs further correction. But dont worry, we know you enough that the real you need no correction.

Welcome Ronald & Alice to this motley band which Terence has aspired to form. You’ll hv to be most unorthodox to be with us as we’re born out of the kitchen.

So for the cymbals, you’ll hv the pan covers to clap, chopsticks sawing the spatula to grind out the sound of violin and hitting the underside of the wok to complete what makes a top-class band. For the songsters/songstress, they can cough, sneeze, yawn, breaks into a tirade and sing of cos, just any sound they’re in the mood to make.

Pandemonium? Maybe but the objective is really to be ourselves, express ourselves, enjoy ourselves for we’re the heck-care silverhairs……….

  38. Wah lau Tim,

You are really OBSERVANMT and even bother to count the number of comments made.Yes, there is another correctn, I cut and paste and 4get to delete.

    Steven

  39. Hi Alice, dont hope but pls hop on to our bandwagon which will take you on a ride that guarantees you to want more and prepares you for the next spore idol audition.

  40. Hi,
I would like to add in these simple songs into our sing-a-long session. Thks.
    1) Corina, Corina
    2) Susanna
    3) Oh Candida
    4) I’m gonna knock on your door
    5) Beautiful Sunday

  41. Hi Clara

It seems that you know all the English songs. Do you know how to play guitar, If no, I think you should learn the simple guitar and then sing your songs with it. Sure will boost your fun. Besides, you can have a new boyfriend and may be later becomes Joan Baez of Singapore.

    Cheers

  42. Butty, I agree with you absolutely until you asked her to have a new bf…………..so what’s she gonna do with her current bfs, not forgetting I too am one (unless section 377 penal code is repealed and i am free to look for bfs for new thrill and so dont need gals as friends)

  43. Been following this post on the side-line, asking myself many times over if I would like to be an audience, a singer or a musician. Hmmm… currently can only be a singer. Would have to pull my Casio from under the bed and see if it is still working. If it is, then next would be to see if I can still remember how to read musical notes… I am a self-taught musician, so all of you should not expect any standards above average. I see the song Bridge Over Troubled Water on the list. Who is doing that? Perhaps we can do a duet or something.. Not so frightful.. hehe
    Shirley Wong

  44. Just realised that you hv brought forward this event to June. Please count me in. I like the song, Vincent (…starry, starry night…) Remember? Would be great if one of the guitarist could play this song. I cannot play any musical instrument but I think I can manage the sing along provided song sheet is available.

  45. Dear all,

Though I can’t sing, don’t play instrument, havn’t compose any song; hopefully my smile cheers the crowd. Simply say .. I will attend. See you in June.

  46. Rene,

Thank you..Ive overlooked. The correct date will be on 24/6/07 (Sunday). And closing date for the polling of songs will be on 27/5/07 (Friday).

    clara

  47. I would like to join in the fun with the get-together sing-along session, and perhaps learn to play some instruments.

May not be a musician but can produce tempo and rhythm with a portable computer for backup in case the instruments player could not find the KEY.

    Ronald Lee

  48. Hi Clara

I would like to add the following songs:

    1. Street of London, 2. Yellow bird, 3. I started a joke, 4. Puff, the magic dragon, 5. Your cheating heart.

I know how to play the chords of these songs and following:

Green green grass of home, 500 miles, blowing in the wind, Take me home Country road.

I will try to learn more songs (such as “Vincent”, don’t know can make it or not) in the list before that day, so I can play the guitar and others can sing the beautiful song.

Sorry, I don’t know all the songs you polled except “the beautiful Sunday”.

  49. Why no mandarin, cantonese or hokkien songs, huh? I know we have some very good singers for Chinese songs. Hope to sing some Chinese songs (no Hokkien songs for me) too. Any lead singer for Chinese songs? Btw, can our musicians play Chinese songs? I have never tried singing with live music. Not sure if I’ll fumble. Poor Andrew.:)

  50. Hi Clara,

Count both of us in please. We can only provide croaking background support if you don’t mind.

    Robert & Kristy Quek
    (The Singing Toads)

  51. Hi Clara,

so happening, must support..I’ll be there.. :D
(oh time not indicated le,assume it is a late afternoon or evening event, hor)

  52. Hi Clara

It seems fun to sing along with fellow SHC members and to relive the GOOD OLD DAYS, count us in, do not want to miss the joy.

On the subject matters, following discussions earlier, try to include “jingle” songs, such as:
Que Sera Sera (what ever will be, will be)
    You are my sunshine
My Bonnie lies over the ocean
    Daisy, Daisy
    Cruising down the river

Further to these, Malay folk songs, will be a good change, as a good number of us are Straits born Chinese, songs like:
    Bengawan Solo
    Burung Kakak Tua
    Di Tanjong Katong
    Rasa Sayang
    Can Mali Can

    Ron & Alice Lai

  53. I won’t be lugging my Yamaha PSR along. I will be there to join in the fun and sing whatever I can sing and maybe learn a few new songs.

  54. Can’t resist this.. So many good nice odies, (I mean the songs of course, hee). I can’t sing but I can hum, hum, hum along.. I want to join.

    Gingko

  55. Anthony Lee,
    I like to sing.
Note:like to sing does not mean know how to sing. For those songs which I don’t know, I just open my mouth & pretend that I can.
I want to joint the fun

  56. By next week, we should agree on where the location will be. It is likely the Changi Beach club, on the ground deck, and facing the beautiful evening sunset, and Pulau Ubin.

Very scenic, and you will love it. I know the place may be far for some, but we have difficulties in finding a nice and big place.

Catch up on this news in a week.

    Terence Seah

  57. Changi beach club is great for a event of this kind. For those who turn up earlier, they can take a stroll on the planked bridge nearby to watch mud-skippers frolicking. 1 drawback tho : the security guard who calls himself wee kim wee isnt that great.

  58. Hi Clara

Hi, I want to join in the fun, dont left me out leh, I thought I already chope a place in April. Have been practising so hard you know…..

    Ann Lim

  59. Hi, Clara

Hi, my name had missed out. I thought I had already put my name in. I just want to join in the fun. hum along with the rest.

    Thanks. see you there.

  60. Hi Clara,

Changi Beach Club will be like a madhouse on 24th, with instrumentalists and singers of all sorts! I am sure it will be fun… however, if I ever manage to push my way in, it will be without guitar (stringed or unstringed).

  61. Please don’t call me a semi-pro. I am not even that good. Guess I’ll leave the musical instruments to those who are truly pro and semi-pro.
    The event sounds fun though.

  62. Dear Clara

Please take my name off the list as I won’t be able to attend. Thanks for taking the lead in this event. You guys have fun and enjoy.

    Thanks
    Lily Ho

  63. Yew Kwong & Lily both withdrew on the same day……..Huh, so who is taking who away? Where to? For what? For how long? Or forever?

Not too long ago, Yew Kwong was picturesque & cherished the thot of sitting at changi point, looking up at the stars, whispering loves and blowing kisses………all so very romantic, setting the mood for a great evening until that ace-in-the-hole came in and suggested that he shd also fart.

Seriously, it’s sad if that has somehow caused YK to hv a change of heart……………

  64. Dear Clara

Gwyneth Lee would like to join in the fun too. She has asked for my help in posting as she is experiencing some difficulties in posting.

    Rgds
    Eliza

  65. Hi guys,
Had been listening to all these oldies till today, on Gold 90 FM and cds but never dared to sing them, not even in the toilet, haha.

Now is the chance, will join in the fun and learn to sing, hehe

    Regards
    Julie

  66. ABBA’s “Money,Money, Money” and Kenny Roger’s “Gambler” for me.

Just joke. Cannot music to save my life. Will join in for fun.

  67. Dear Clara/Terence,

Judging by the responses that you have received, you have a wonderful group of happy folks ready to break loose!

Looking at your list of performers, however, I note that you have many guitarists around and keyboardists too. This is great, but just as what Terrence has mentioned, it would be good to categorize them into beginners and old timers. In that way, a combo or band could be easily assembled to accompany the singers. Also, are they on solo instrumentation or capable back-up musicians i.e. able to handle all keys comfortably for the singers vocal range.

Keep it up, the road ahead looks awesome!

    Regards,
    Edwin Chen

  68. Dear All SHC Student Keyboardists,

There is no short cut to learning the electronic keyboard. Never mind what the manufacturers claim in their brochures. You need some basic pop/blues/jazz piano or at least familiar yourself with some pop music jargons to work the switches to fiddle the 61 or more black and whites of the keyboard effectively.

A basic keyboard, as the term suggest enables you to play along happily with your Do, Re, Mi.s melody line and very simple accompaniment, persussion and bass line. Normally, these keyboards are inexpensive to own. The tone and sound reproduction is, of course,a far cry from the professional instrument! Never mind about authenticity.

An arranger Keyboard however, don’t be fooled, though it has quite similar looks and size, it has numerous possiblities for the artiste and that includes arranging your songs and re-writing them. Whether accompaniment or otherwise the flexibility is limitless and beyond one’s imagination.

There is a snitch though, mid and top of the line keyboards don’t come cheap. Close to 10K buys you a mid-range piece. However, the functions and playability goes far beyond some of the most expensive early 40K Hammond Organs(2, 3 tier oragans) that were made exclusively for residential use and expressive classical interpretations ions ago.

So, my dear SHC’ians to cut it short, when you say you want to learn to play the keyboards…. where do you wish to come in? I can help you find the ideal tutor. For Coffee or Tea? I don’t know!

By the way, I am a “cheapo” I am using a Technics KN6500, a Yamaha 3500 and a Roland E-Series to rock the stage! Now, trying real hard to earn a little extra money to buy a new Korg ProX to better my home recordings.

My regards to All, Happy Playing!

  69. Dear participants (Clarice , LH Jie, Michelle, Wanna Tay, Joyce Gan, Maria, & Gwyneth). Please update me on your latest email account for correspondence purpose. Thanks.

  70. Latest !

With Terence’s Ark skippered by Clara calling at the CB Club on 24 June 2007, and with no sign of the numbers ebbing, the CB Club has convened an emergancy meeting and has unanimously decided to engage a team of civil engineers to add more foundation piling.

Safety assured, musician-wannabes can now bring their pots, pans, dust bin covers to join in the cacophony of music expected on that nite. Mata-mata & all security personnel in the vicinity hv been instructed to put on ear plugs for their own sake.

  71. Clara,
I have been sending you emails update to direct all mails to my alternate GMAIL ACCOUNT as I never received a single email from you since Day 1. How do I know? I found out when other members used the function “Reply All”. The latest email on song sheets that I received through “Reply All” still showed that my hotmail account remained in your mailing list. Beng Wi has edited it (encountered same problem) I have no problem receiving emails through my hotmail account from other SHC members. Strange rite? Would you do an instant update in your mailing list to avoid “no reply” from me. No song sheets from you too?

    Rene

  72. Hi everybody,

It has been difficult looking for a place to house our sing-along.

Finally, here is the update on the use of the Changi Beach Club “Beach Lodge”. This is a nice cosy room, very suitable for sing-along. It is big enough to handle the size of our crowd. The room has also an excellent facing to the beach, and you will love the beautiful setting sun, facing, I think, Pulau Ubin.

Originally, we had intended the sing-along to be free, except for the tea and coffee. But we are unable to negotiate a free evening with the Beach Club.

Changi Beach Club will charge us $16.66 per pax for the use of this room, and the tea/coffee. There will be the use of the projector and other equipment in the room.

To encourage SilverHairsClub members to attend this sing-along, and to really feel and share the friendship among one another, enjoy the beautiful sunset, breathe some fresh sea air, we would charge members $7 per pax. The balance will be absorbed. If you feel $7 is too high, please email me directly.

Unregistered members or walk-ins will be charged the $16.66 per pax. Strictly for SilverHairsClub members only.

Clara has prepared a great schedule, with song lists and lyrics. The musicians are gearing to charm you. So, please register on this website and come join in the fun. To avoid confusion, no emails please.

    Terence Seah

  73. Dear All
In order to save cost n be environment friendly purposes, could I suggest that for those who ve attended D&D n still keep ur name tag,pls inform our event organiser n bring it along.

  74. Just like to add, if you feel nostalgic (right spelling?), this is a great place. You can find many little corners to chat.

And, if you like to swim, just bring your trunks and costumes. Pool is olympic size.

This club forbids outside outside food. We can even walk out to Changi village for dinner, after 7pm.

Strictly for registered SilverHairsClub members only.

  75. Oi, Terence, I am tempted by yr little corners but if everyone goes for these little corners, then what’s Clara gonna do with those song sheets and the 4 hours ?

Heee, the corners can come later, after 7 p.m., the darker the better hor………..

I do hv bitter-sweet nostalgia of that pool, not least, I was smite by a mermaid who didnt care, and bitten by a water snake which I never enticed.

  76. Hi Terence,
Will be joining U & yr gang on that day. Where do I look for U all? Slow la.

Beach Lodge? I know how 2 go 2 Changi Beach Club been there a couple of x wif frenz who ‘r members.

    Eliza

  78. Hi Eliza,
Maybe you can get Nina to liaise with YewKwong on this unable to post problem, I used to have this same problem as Nina but was resolved after I liaised with him. You can probably help her for a start to post a request in forum on used pc project, how abt that?

  79. Dear Clara

Couldn’t attend next Sunday. So, please withdraw my name.
Thanks for the effort in leading this event.

    All, have a great time.

    Rene

  80. Hi Clara,

my boss had just called for a brainstorming session next weekend. So, unable to attend you guys… sorrie!
all SHCians… have a jolly fun time.
    Regards

  81. The sing-along is intended as a gathering, to enable SilverHairs to get to meet one another. So, do pick up the courage to mingle with one another.

For info, there is a screen with a projector and laptop. We would put up the songs on the screen. Sound system is internal, from the ceiling. We wont be blasting away. Tables with 8 chairs each would be set up.

For participants, please remember to write your name on a sticky label, and place it on your blouse/shirt.

For carparks, please park on the road, outside the Changi Beach Club. Parking is not available inside the Club carpark, as these are reserved for members.

If you accidentally stroll into the casino, and you win big, you must have a member to sign you in. I charge 50% of winnings.

There are sign boards with the word “SilverHairsClub” leading you to the function room.

Outside food and drinks are not allowed. If you are hungry, there are two F&B areas. Tea and coffee are available, just outside the Beach Lounge.

Feel free to come earlier, if you want to explore the club.

Take note of my tel number 9489-4360, if you are lost inside the club.

  82. Hi there

I’m new here. I came to know SHC through ENN newsletter. Your activities looks interesting and I’m interested to meet new friends and of course join in the varied activities.

    About myself:
My name is Mani. I’m female Indian, single and am will be 50 next year – how has time flown… I enjoy walking, travelling, swimming, pottering with plants and love anything to do with nature. I do enjoy travelling but have not been doing this as I have hoped, though I’ve returned from holidaying in China just last week and hope to see more of the world with the company of silverhairs.

I find it difficult to meet people of the same interest and hope to widen my circle of friends with similar interest and I’m game for anything. Food is no problem with me, I’m quite adaptable.

    Waiting to hear from you.

    cheers
    Mani

  83. Hi Eliza

Just like to understand the actual situation. Is Nina Gan uploading a comment or post? If its a post, its possible because of moderation sets in. If its a comment you wont get this problem.

Anyway, pls get Nina to email me her encounter to lohyks@hotmail.com

If she has msn messenger, she can contact me at any time.

  84. Hi Clara,

I would not be able to attend this Sing-a-Long session due to a last minute change of date from Monday to Sunday for a family memorial service for my late father.

    My apologies,
    Regards
    Shirley

  85. Hi Clara and all,

May I know if anyone has seen my digital camera battery recharger which I left unplugged in the socket at the back of the hall last night? If not, may I know whom to contact at the Changi Beach Club?

    Thanks.

  87. Hi Clara

“Thanks for the Memories”, a wonderful job well done. With the “Sound of Music” in the air, and on a “Beautiful Sunday” afternoon, what more can we ask, where you will find the songs evoke memories of happy occasions. Someone called out for “Corrina, Corrina” but she was no where to be found, even you “Knock Three Times” and say “I’m gonna knock on your Door” as much as to “Try a little Kindness”. With your favourite and beautiful “Shalala-lala” and having add in a little of your “Love Potion No 9”, we then have Terence, Ronald Wi and the Malacca group to join us and complete the journey of “500 Miles” of songs and dances.

  88. Hi Clara,

Last night the atmosphere was filled with nostalgia. The oldies and goodies brought back sweet memories of the past especially Cliff Richard’s “The Young Ones”. Indeed we all felt young again last night, thanks to you.

    Robert & Kristy

  89. Prior to the event, i had my reservations how a singalong cd stretch over 4 hours and the interest still sustained?

My reservations flew out of the window when Clara, almost single-handedly, took the session from 1 crescendo to another as she outshone the afternoon sun with her boundless energy, beaming all the time as she led us thru 1 song after another.

As if not to be out-done, Ronald Wi, Andrew & Vincent too made great music fr the guitar in accompaniment.

    Well done folks !

And for me, the high point was to take in the sight each time Clara raised her hand….flawless ! No doubt, she must hv painstakingly (even painfully) spent many hours pulling & shaving………….smooth, tempting a tickle.

  90. My hat off to you Clara for a well organised beautiful Sunday of sing-along and solos. A good time of nostalgia was had by all I am sure. I know I did….very much. Thank you.

  91. Your passion and hard work paid off. Well done, Clara.
This event had attracted many first timers and by the look of it, they were all enjoying themselves. Welcome aboard newbies and do join us more often in our activities.
It sure was a beautiful Sunday!

  92. Hi Clara,

Just want to say thank you for hosting this Sing-a long session. I don’t have a good voice and have not been singing for years! Yesterday’s was indeed a Beautiful Sunday which bring memories of yesteryear. I find myself enjoying the singing afterall….I also want to thank the 3 guitarists, Ronald, Andrew and Vincent for their effort. Clap clap…… I am very impress by Clara’s kind thought of giving away prizes…all under her own account. It was indeed a Beautiful Sunday!

  93. I enjoyed the sing-along very much. Give the feeling of being young, while inspiring the spirit in all of us.

Thanks Clara, Bernie, our 3 guitarists, our videographer, dancers and all participants.

And, if you like more of such events, simply raise your hands.

    Terence Seah

  94. Haha, Terence, i dunno who’ll respond to yr prompting to raise hands but if you do raise yours, let me know first…………..i’ll bring the lawn mower.

  95. Hi Clara,

Thank you and guitarists, Ronald, Andrew & Vincent, for the very relaxing and beautiful Sunday afternoon. Enjoyed it very much.

  96. Expense for this event:
Changi Beach club Tax invoice ref: AC1b/07-0071

  98. Thank you Terence for generously subsiding the cost of the Sing-a-long event. Can we look forward to another Sing-a-long session ? I must admit that I had enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, the songs and beautiful view.

Thanks Clara for spending time, effort & money in organising the event.

Thanks all participants for their enthusiatic singing & being so co-operative.

    Bernie

  99. Bernadette Says: Can we look forward to another Sing-a-long session ?

If all attendees at this session had enjoyed, I believe all wld agree 100% to a fee of $20 to be collected for the next one. Surplus will be brought forward to subsidise other activities.

  100. Terence
You said total bill was 981.75.
There were only 49 attendees. Per pax 16.66×49 = 816.34. even with + + should still be less, right? Or do you have to pay for those who sign up but did not turn up?

  101. Hi Oi Cheng,
The balance was sponsored by the club. Many members had contributed to the event, by volunteering their time and service.

You too had contributed many times by managing the activities registration process. And, so have many others, working in the background to make our activities successful.

    Terence Seah

  102. Terence, I can see that the club (or you) were subsidising 50% for those who turned up for the event and 100% for those who registered but wouldn’t make it on that day. Personally, I feel that, if the budget had been more efficiently controlled, we could have saved up the money for other use.
Anyway, thank you for your generosity and thanks to those who spent so much time and effort for this event. It was a pity that I couldn’t stay long. I must have missed out a lot of fun that afternoon. :(

    Ivy

  103. Hi Clara

Heard so much about the sing along and most of you hv fun. Just wondering when the photos going to be up, as I would like to see all the happy faces that day.

    Thanks,
