Reading keeps us uptodate. Books to share and exchange

All of us have books at home.  We have read them, and they are nicely left on the shelf.  It would be nice if we can borrow some of these books; equally nice, if we can lend others these books.

Books helps us to stay alive.  It refreshes the minds.

All SilverHairsClub members meet regularly, at monthly gatherings, walks, cycling, chats or parties.  We can exchange these books.  Remember to return though.  If you have a book that you like to lend someone, share the name of your book here.

Lending and borrowing books are also excellent ways to get to know one another better.

  1. I have some nice travel books on Vietnam, Menam Chao Praya, India, Beijing and Myanmar. If you see me coming for any of the club’s events, let me know, and I shall bring it along.

  2. Great idea !

You’re what you eat; you’re also what you read.

Btw, anyone out there with this book written by Dr Kua on May 13, 1969 which has stirred up a furore?

  3. We can also include other options like sale, giveaway and exchange.

Maybe we call it “SHC’s Book Interchange” and rope in 2 to 3 members to coordinate exchange and update listing on SHC’s webpage.

With this service, moving unwanted books around will be a breeze. Well, lets the cycling group helps you to kick off for a start.

  4. I have 3 books to giveaway on first come first serve. Once you have confirmed to take pls commit to collection.

  5. Yew Kwong,

Can I chope your “Shooting with your Eye – A Guide to Effective & Creative Picture-Taking by R Goar”. I intend to buy a Digital Camera for my own use.Trying to get one before the 7% GST on 1st July.

  6. Hey Ah Nee & Renee, you both are fast.

Wow Yew Kwong, your books are moving like hot cakes… better than ebay leh. LOL.

Do you hv cooking books….I am interested. :)

  7. Do hv but they are still use in the kitchen. Afraid there is none to be given away.

I do hv some music/song CDs looking for new owners. Will list them later.

  8. Yew Kwong has always struck me as a gentle guy, other than that one essay which he wrote out of extreme provocation.

Now I see the generous side of him as well. So nice…

  9. Ah Nee

I will also give you a CD which entitled “The Beginner’s Guide To Digital Photography”, one n only that came together with PC World magazine some years back.

If you really want to try n learn more about digital photography, pls buy it before the coming Batam trip so that you get to use it.

I can assure you (unless you have been to Sijori Batam) that the resort is just the right target for your practice.

    Its my pleasure.

The guide was bought for $30 plus before my trip to Vietnam years ago. I bought it just to answer the place n people better but didnt really had the chance to use it.

The map was complimentary available to tourists at Ho Chi Minh airport.

  11. Sure, true & indeed that Yew Kwong is a gentle guy until that silly nutty fella fed him with onions wanting him to let go gas………

If that Vietnam Guide contains reference to Nguyen van Thieu & N Cao Ky, they were the President & PM of South Vietnam, and if you see Ho Chi Ming smiling at you, it’s only a foto, he’s long dead. Of cos saigon is 2day’s ho c m city and there’s no more nipah bomb dropped at da nah. And if a head pops out of a manhole, dont worry he’s not a vietcong…….

  12. Hahaha!!

Tim Liu is Uncle Ho’s long lost newphew… you know that you can still meet Uncle Ho in Hanoi although he can’t talk back to you. But that’s quite ideal because you don’t need somebody who talks back at you.

Rene: you planning a trip to a trip to HCMC? Don’t forget to bring along a real-life guide who can take you across the streets of Saigon, dodge all the motorcycles and now, fast cars speeding up Dong Khoi road. I haven’t heard of nipah bombs, only nipah palm trees. And that head that pops out of a Chu Chi tunnel is only our favourite SHC leader getting unstuck.

  13. Book for rent (No charge):

    2. Chiangmai shopping secrets, it’s a shopping guide, 1001 reasons to spend another day in ChiangMai.

  14. It’s said that only ringworms living and feeding in one’s big instestines where the best of food is kept b4 discharge know what its host thinks and haha, Kenneth, you’re darn right & know me in & out.

Yes, uncle Ho continues to stand tall in the sun & rain and hpw nice if he can join our dames for a skip at the pubs.

Terence, any book on Patpong Boobs – An Insight or Tai Gals – The Tiger Way ? eading these books and thus learned, you can bet I’ll hv 1000000000001 reasons to want to retire there.

    Wu bo?

  15. Terence, I’d like to borrow the “Chiangmai shopping secrets” but have no time to read now. Can I book it for the next turn? Thanks.

  16. Tim, Tim

You’ve the worms wrong… they’re tapeworms which wind down your whole intestine and maybe can be wound on a stick when you pass them out (yeeeks!)

It is Uncle Ho himself in person: his preserved corpse lying in the mausoleum in Hanoi.

A Patpong book? I’m sure you’d have no need for a book or a guide. Just free-fall into the place after 9pm and I’m sure you’d find your way around.

  17. Kenneth, when you said what you’re. you’re.

Let Uncle Ho sleep. If he wakes up, he’ll follow you and remember where you’ll heading this July 07 in the evening?

  18. Dear Timmy

I certainly don’t want to be the tapeworm in your belly… Or, for that matter, the ringworm, hookworm or other vile parasite that might infest your trim tummy.

That aside, I must apologise for digressing from the loftier motives of this forum: That of lending and getting other SHCs our favourite tomes.

I will be bringing some books to the meeting on the 17th and would be pleased to lend them out to anyone interested. I hope there will also be others who would, so that we can get this spirit of sharing going.

  19. Dear Kenneth,

My best pets are kept in my tummy, away from theft & molestation.

With good but free food, some do become parasitic when they take on more than 1 spouse, start to multiply indiscriminately & so infest, and that’s when Woods gripe water comes handy.

Trust me, you’re still very much a good worm religiously practising monowormy.

But despite my love, you want out so I’ll oblige you when I next eat ses-hum and purge. But out alone in this world, you’ll hv to fend for yrself altho having feasted on my food as my gatekeeper, you must be clever and shd learn KT’s TIC, en-bloc sales, forex, botox fast.

But 17 July is too early………I am not abt ready to eat any sea-hum by then so in my paunch you’ll remain.

But I hv no objection if only in spirit you share.

  20. I am travelling to Europe in Oct 2007 with Cheong, Annie and Nok. Am not willing to spend money buying Europe Travel books. Do you have a Europe Travel book that I can borrow? Promise to return.

    Terence Seah

  21. Sorry.

Too preoccupied nuking D2610’s jackpot to talk about worms. Is he for real? With a number for a name, one may believe its a message bot out there.

There are many enblocs. People are squeezed into incredibly small places at astounding prices. The conservation of mass dictate that a lot of good stuff will have to be thrown in order to make for premium space.

This is the best of times. If you want to collect stuff ie books, computers
    etc

Now you don’t have to stop at booty space. You’ll need a container to sell the collection in the carpark.

Want to feed on this idea? I can latch your worm to the source. A parasitic tapeworm not-enough. More like the mother-of-all sucker.

Remember today’s meet Hans@NatLib. T is holding court and we’re hosting war games over SHC issues. Not simulations. For real.

  22. Oui, KT, the leftists in yr right brain are at war with the capitalists in yr left brain, or what?

Terence asked for some Europe guide books and you offered him a container of worms at astounding prices, a mother-of-all suckers to seduce him and a parasitic tapeworm as the sweetener.

In this condition, you cant take Japan to beat Saudi or the Koreans running rings round the Iraqis this evening.

  23. Hi Clara, you must be psychic! I was just thinking if I should call you and make an appointment. Haha.

Ok, Wed lunch. What time? 12 pm? You name the place as the only few places I know are Downtown East and White Sands apart from Elias Mall.

    Mary

  24. Hey, this sounds like a good thing. I used to read quite a bit, but have allowed it to slide. Does anyone have the book, “A Round Heeled Woman” by Jane Jushka? I’ve read the follow up, but not this one.
