SHC overnight gathering in Batam, Sat/Sun, 7-8 July 2007

We have some response to the idea of an overnight gathering.  We have interests from:

  1. Maria
  2. Joy
  3. LH JIe
  4. ann
  5. Terence
  6. Tim Liu
  7. Rosalind
  8. Lily Ho
  9. Kenneth Tan
  10. Ronald Wi
  11. Venika Leong
  12. Eyvonne
  13. No limit, except room subject to reservations.  Please indicate your room share partner.

Ideas for places include Batam (Bagus Hotel), Pengerang (Desaru) and Kukup (Tanjung Piai Resort.  This could be a bungalow or hotel rooms, near the beach.  Some SilverHairs have suggested this would be an idea to get to know one another, plus add on a couple of knowledge sharing.  Hot water is a must.

If you have a contact with a travel agent, able to organise for 20 people, please drop a line here.   We need your help to start the process here.  Please share your ideas.

Read earlier post.

We can now confirm the place at Batam View Tourist Resort.  Click here for info.

The rates are:

  • SGD 98 per person, twin sharing – standard room, breakfast and ferry two-way.
  • SGD 133 per person, in a 2 Bedroom villa (can take 4 persons), breakfast and ferry two-way.

And, anybody, who can get a better package, please raise your hands.

The original intention for this overnight gathering was not shopping or sightseeing.  Really, more for SilverHairs to get to know one another better, learn some yoga from one another, sing some songs with inhouse guitarists, chat or just drink some beers togethers.

This program is confirmed.  Can I have a volunteer for an Event Organiser?  Lily Ho has volunteered to be the Event Organiser.  Thank you.

  1. Hi Terence

My Spouse Alice and I would like to join you and other members of SHC forthe overnight trip on 7/8th July. May we suggest, what about Bintan, they have lovely facilities there. My daughter is attached to Banyan Tree Resorts, in charge of Maldives, they have Banyan Tree Hotel and Angsana Hotel in Bintan, but they are of the higher side. There is a lower category resort in Bintan, which we can recommend, is Bintan Lagoon Resort. They have 1,000 rooms and have Discotheque, and music lounge, can get discount from any Travel Agents if you have more people.

    Cheers

    RONLAI & ALICE

  2. I would love to go too. I do not have any idea cos I have not been to Bintan but would love to go along with whatever exciting plans you all have. Thanks for organising.
    Warmest Regards

  3. Hi Terence,
It would be much better to scout for any travel agent or any destinations provided that a more realistic figure for the outing is concluded. From there, then we probably can zoom down to few destinations n liaise with different travel agents to ensure that we get the best deals.

Your previous travel cost targeted at $55/pax is definitely out so pls set a new target for this…

  4. Ehh … Terence

Your posting said, Sat/Sun July – but your comment(4) said ‘date likely to be in June’. Which one is correct huh??

  5. Hi Terrence,

I have been to Bintan 3 times already, so I am only interested to go to the places you have suggested. Please count me in if we going to Batam, Pengerang (Desaru) or Kukup (Tanjung Piai Resort. Thanks for organising the exciting tour / gathering.

  6. Hi all

Don’t pray pray. I have not been to JB, Batam and some say Bintang. I am game for any place safe, comfortable and fun. Guess I have been in prison most of my life.

  7. Hahaha, Terence, yes, you do hv a very big problem with dates…………..remember, years ago you were supposed to date Mary, a Chinese gal but ended up dating Ryma, yr Indian neighbour’s daughter.

Joy, many places are comfortable & fun. Safe? Hmmm………. But there shd be no worry, we have many knights & swordsmen here even servants so shd be safer than safe wherever we decide to go.

  8. Hey Terence,

This is going to be the first overnight event for SHC gathering and I wouldn;t miss it for the world. Clap, clap and we are going places…..yeh!

Kindly add my name to the list. Thanks a bunch!

  9. Hi

Philip & I are interested. Please let us have more details. We need to know what time we leave for Batam on Sat 7 July 07.(We have some commitments to take care of first)

    Thanks

    Priscilla Wee

  10. Place and dates are confirmed. Maybe we can save a few dollars.

Meantime, those who are confirmed to go, please put your names here. You can pair up in twos.

Who wants to pair with me?

    Terence

  11. Hi Terrence!

Pls include Gwyneth Lee and I and we want to share a std room. It has proven that we could tolerate each other as room mates after our 5-day trip to Macau & HK though we first met at the DnD. I’m looking forward to visit Batam again with silverhairs instead of a group runners during my younger days. Thank U!

  12. Did I miss reading the date for this Batam outing……..dont seem to find it anywhere leh? Also, think we hv more participants that the list presently contains.

Haha, with Terence & Joy both looking for mates to bunk with, tim ah liu is spoilt for choices. In all fairness, I’ll hv to come clean and tell all….in bed, I alternate btwn snoring & sneezing and when in the mood, I sleep-walk do the turkey talk.

    So, Terence, Joy ai mai?

  13. There must be someone out there who is good at organising such event but too shy to volunteer. It is understandable especially when he/she may end up getting complaints instead of credit. If he/she is brave enough to step forward, I promise to do all I can to help.

BTW Terence, here’s the updated list of those going :

  14. My apologies Lily. It was originally planned for Bintan so I wanted to go cos I have not been there and since I did not see my name on the earlier list, I did not comment. But since it is Batam and I just went with my sisters and their RC members, I would miss this one. Maybe next time to Bintan, I would like to go. I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

  15. Hi Eliza

Great! I shall bunk with you, Veronica and Jenny in our villa. Will take this opportunity to get to know you all.

I am not sure if you know who I am. If you look at the D&D pictures, you will see me at the registration table.

I am sorry I can’t remember you, Veronica or Jenny.

  16. Joy
Yes, I saw your photo (u are one of the organisers at the D&D night). Great, you, myself, Jenny (alias Gynnweth), Veronica Lee will take 1 villa.

Terence/Lily – kindly note that it will be 4 of us together.

    Thks
    Eliza

  17. First outing for me to Batam … Not to miss !!
Myself, Evyonne, Josephine intend to take the villa accomodation…For your attention. Thks.

  18. Hi Joy

In fact, you have spoken with us at the Botanic Gardens. We shall keep you in suspense until probably we meet at Sat’s T-party. I will appear in front of you. Alternatively, you may browse thru the SGB fotos again and try to spot us, is quite easy.
    Happy guessing!

    veronlee

  19. Lily, very nice of you to put together & uodated the names of the respondents so far.

Since I know all the ladies sharing the villa, I wont mind be their security guard for the nite so I need 1 set of keys. I too promise to be good.

  20. Hi Terence,

May be you would like to assign this post to me so that I can help you update the name list?? It’s difficult to do it in the comment post.

  21. Hey Tim,

Knowing all the ladies sharing the villa, I know you won’t mind being their “night” security guard. And you mean, “you promise to be good at it.” huh?!

Give you a set of their keys ?? Yeah right.!! Ladies, what do you think – not in a million years right ??

  22. Hahaha, Lily, we hv someone lurking in our midst adding in words here & there and your “at it” to my “promise to be good” makes you the prime suspect. Or in fact, not s suspect but…….hehe.

Seriously, you’re one person whose character I’ll readily vouch for. Sometimes a puritan strict to a pain, you do hv that fun & funny side…………..only if people know how to uncover it without putting you without any cover & in a blush.

Ok, give me yr key too……….you’ll be the last I visit provided I can still walk a straight line by then.

  23. Ya Tim,

    I’ll give you a key alright – a turkey for a monkey.

You know what I think? “Barking dog seldom bites”, “Still water runs deep”. The quiet ones are more dangerous than a blabber-mouth.

  24. Hi Lily,

This Post has been assigned to you.

Thank you for volunteering to be the Event Organiser. I am away until next week. We catch up then.

Please feel free to re-org the event, as you see fit. Will correspond with you on the email too.

    Cheers.

    Terence Seah

  25. Lily, it’s a deal………..i look forward to receiving yr turkey, thanks.

(While the rest of us will travel light with just 1 bag to carry, pretty will be lugging a turkey with her & if the turkey is noti and runs everywhere in the ferry, she will be climbing over seats, crawling btwn legs to catch the turkey just for me, hehehe).

You know what I think? “Pretty chases turkey for monkey makes monkey happy but almost makes her mati so in pity, he asks her, why so silly?”.

  26. Tim, I wanted to go to a place that is safe. So your offer to be a security guard has been accepted. You may stand outside our villa and jaga the door the whole night, no roaming in straight or crooked line to anywhere else.

  27. It’s my pleasure to accept your command, Mdm, especially where there’s joy in accepting it. (Heee, I’ll, for a beer, allow anyone who is looking for some fun to borrow the villa keys, afterall I was to jaga the door and make sure no one writes O$P$ or takes it away).

Ann, I too wont mind yr snorings & $/3 is more affordable than $/2 so……………?

  28. Hi there

It’s good that people are starting to pair themselves probably after last night’s gathering. We have up & coming events such as Cycling on 19, Tea party on 26, Clubbing on 30, Weekly walk, etc. Hopefully, by mid June, everyone would have paired themselves out.

For those who have not found a room mate by then, I will have to do the pairing for you so that you’ll have enough time to get to know your room mate before the trip.

There’s a glitch on the facilitator’s end that I am unable to amend or edit the post. So, please bear with till Terence sort out the problem. Thank you for your patience.

    Lily Ho

  29. Lily

Need u to update your rooming list . Veronica Lee, Joy, Gwyneth Lee and myself will be taking the villa for 4 persons.

    Thank u
    Eliza

  30. Lily, pls dont be cruel to me & find me a room-mate. I want to hv a room to myself and then I can start planning and issue queue numbers for half hourly visits. (If you seek a preview, can go mang ka ka to see what it’s like)

What shall i do with my ogling room-mate if there’s one?

  31. Sorry Folks,

I’m still unable to edit this post. (Seems like Terence is unable to do something about it – may have to start a new post.)

Meanwhile, I’ve already updated the room/villa name list as requested, and had made several enquiries for packages. Now awaiting for the best deal to come in.

    Will keep you posted soon.

    Regards
    Lily Ho

  32. Talking abt Batam reminds me of this email I recvd of which I want 2share w/u. I wanted 2categorise this under FOOD 4THOT (..tots..) but dont know how 2post it… So here goes…

Subject: How did we survive our childhood?
Take a very short walk thru our history. How did we survive our childhood?
    If u were a kid in d 20’s,30’s,40’s,50’s, or even early 60’s ….how
    did u survive ur childhood?
1.- When we’re growing up we never wore seatbelts in d car. Cars didn’t hv airbags…
2.- Riding on d back of a pickup truck was an adventure that we still remember!
3.- Our cribs were painted w/bright colors (paint which was full of lead).
4.- We didn’t hv childproof medicine btls, nor did our parents ever childproof our hse. 5.- When we rode our bikes we never wore a helmet.
6.- We wld drink wtr frm d well, faucet or frm a hose in d backyard (not bottled wtr).7.- We didn’t hv cell phones, so our parents were never able 2reach us (awesome, heng ah!).

8.- We wld get scrapes, bruises, break bones, lose teeth, but we wld never sue 4these accidents.9.- We wld eat cakes, bread n butter, drink sugary drinks, n we weren’t overweight cos we were always outside playing.
10.- Four of us wld share a drink, we wld all drink fm d same btl n that wasn’t gross nor wld anyone get sick.
11.- We didn’t hv Playstations, Nintendo 64, X boxes, video games, cable TV w/ over 100 channels, VCR’s, surround sound, cellular phones, computers, online chatrooms, (blogging-blabbing) instead we wld hv tons of ‘FRIENDS’.
12.- Some of us weren’t as bright as others but when one wld get left back that was no big deal. They wld not get taken 2a psychologist, nor did they ever suffer frm dyslexia, hyperactivity, ADHD, ADD, etc, they wld simply repeat d grade until they passed.13.- We’d freedom, mishaps, successes, responsibilities, n we wld learn 2deal w/them. D question is…How did we survive? n abv all, 2become d GREAT people that we r 2day? R u frm one of these generations?
If u r, then send this msg 2others frm ur same generation or 2others who r younger so that they can see how we survived.
    —- oooOooo —-
I indeed hd a wonderful childhood – swmg w/two coconuts tied together as floaters in fishponds w/faeces floating arnd me; digging 4siputs when tides down; rowing a sampan when tides up catching buaykee frm mangrove branches, preserving them w/garlic, black sauce, chilli, n eating thedm w/muay; feeding pigs, ducks, chickens; climbing fruit trees plucking which fruit 2eat…Doing joget at weddings in d Malay kampong.
    Those were d days…

They’ll probably say that we were very boring, but I believe that we were VERY BELLY HAPPY CHILDREN yah!!…. agree ??

  33. Certainly we had more fun as kids than the present kids…. mine not as fun as yours, though. Always told the children of today, I never envy their childhood, but then it is the circumstances that we were living in, and now they are living in. No doubt man-created, but everyone (children included) is dealing with it as best as they can.

Do remember, as we aged, so do our memory, and we tend to have very selective ones too. We keep the good and discard the bad!!

  34. Hi,Organiser,
I would like to joint the overnight gathering in Batam on 7/8 July 2007.Pls keep me inform.
    With Best Regards
    SHC 704 Anthony Lee

  35. Yes, its all in the mind.

We can have all the fun in the world staying still. We can have all the stress in the world moving frantically going nowhere.

  36. Tink…….. and I got alerted to someone asking about bring fishing gear to Kukup.!! Huh.??
