Chin Kim Sen & Michelle – Profile

Profile of Chin Kim Sen

Just call me Chin. I am 58 years old and can be considered as ‘Not retired
but  always taking 6 mths vacation twice a year’.  To some, may be
considered ‘sayang'(pity) not to be  working for the last 3 years but I felt
it is time to live for myself and for my spouse. Since my wife had a stroke
3 years ago, I stopped working to support her spiritually, emotionally and
mentally. I know she deserves my 100% attention after all these years of
marriage. She is much better now and we are enjoying each other’s company
and  of course, we have our fair share of bickering. This is marriage!

As for myself, I am still fit <grin>, considering that I go jogging and
exercising for 1 hour at the Woodlands Stadium in the last10 years. I used
to jog at 4.30 a.m. but now, at 5.30 a.m. to accompany my wife for qi-gong
after my jog.    Anybody keen to join us? Invigorating! We are also into
lawn-bowling lately instead of  the vigorous 10-pin bowling in the past.

Both my wife and I share the same concerns as our fellow silver hair club
members- retiring comfortably with S$500 stretched to its limit; going to
see the world as long as my kaki can carry my body- of course, sussing best
deals at travel fairs, airline offers, etc..;  living in retirement village
with people of same likes and sharing and exchanging our life experiences.

I look forward to see you all  at the next gathering and also the online
chit-chats.

Profile of Michelle Siew

Hi hi, great to be still alive and talking to you all on the web. I am still
young at heart tho’ not in age<grin>. I am 54 now but at least younger than
my hubby, Chin. I also retired from the workforce prematurely due to my
sudden illness. The haemorrghic stroke may have  partially incapacitated me
physically but not my spirit though. I want to live passionately, now that I
am given a second lease of life.  I am blessed with a devoted husband, 2
grown-up daughters, 1 son-in-law, 1 grandson and another grandchild on the
way…. Mmmm.. what more do I want!….

I used to enjoy cycling, 10-pin bowling, swimming, belly dancing and
line-dancing, but now I switch my interests to less vigorous activities  to
accommodate my physical condition like reading (which is still my first
passion), surfing the net, light exercises like qigong, travelling (free &
easy type), visiting the sick to comfort them, sussing  good and cheap food
(zi- char and the hawker fares and of course, still watching my waist line-
oops what waistline?)

My concerns also echo what you club members have! That’s why both my hubby
and I join the club. I  will definitely look forward to join the club’s
activities and see you all.

  1. Hi Kim and Michelle

Wilcome to SHC. I’m Andrew, younger than Kim and older than Michelle.

Very agree with what Kim said our wife deserves our 100% attention after all these years of
    marriage. Very envy you both

Hope can see both of you in the SHC activities soon

  2. Hello Chin & Michelle. Welcome on board the SHC. Its so good to hear of this kind of “love story”. Yes, if you think its time to retire and smell the roses together, then its time. No reasons needed. Michelle, glad to know you are well now. How can you be not when you have such a good husband taking care of you. Hope to see you both at the next SHC gathering. Take care
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  3. HI Andrew & Caroline. Michelle here. Thks for the comments. We are still ‘green’ with SHC. Still navigating thr’ the volumes of activities in SHC. Will look out and join those that interest us. We are glad to know you all thr’ the net but we are sure to meet up one of these days. You are right, Caroline. We can now smell the roses by the wayside, anytime we want. Life is more than working to keep us alive. To be alive is already life itself.Andrew, you too can give 100% attention to your wife now. Don’t wait till calamity strikes then appreciate each other..

  4. Hi Chin and Michelle

Sorry to tell you that my wife has passed away more than two years. I had a hard time to face this until this year.

I joined more SHC activities this year, and feel more open and relax. Now, my wife has became my sweet memories, and is always with me.

    Really envy you both

  5. hi Andrew, Sorry to hear that. Yes, it must be very difficult for you at that time. But you have moved on with the support of someone above, family and friends.I believe your wife would want you to continue with your life and live to the fullest. Well, cheer up, you can count on us and others in SHC when need arises.
    We are for u

  6. Hi Chin & Michelle

WELCOME 2 SHC, you may be “green” but not to de extent of de “Green, green grass of home” (our member Henry’s favourite tune) to de home of SHC.

Very glad to know that Michelle, your loving wife, had fully recovered from de stroke. Is she still on medication? I, myself, had a very minor stroke in my right arm, luckily it lasted only for a few seconds. It happened 20 years ago, while at work in de office. I am taking cardiprin since than for prevention of stroke, it helps, even though I am now perfectly OK.

Is nice to know that there is another loving couple like both of you in SHC who love travels and the likes. My wife and I are very seasoned travellers and still going on and on, as you rightly said, until de KAKIS can take it, will go on. In fact this coming July 17th will be joining a tour to Hokkaido, to enjoy de cool summer air with a hill full of Lavender flowers. We also love dancing(ballroom & social)bowling (stop for quite some time) and gardening, to spend our twilight years loving de nature, to tend to de beautiful flowers and plants with loving care. You were talking about cheap fares in travels. Only about 3 mths ago We went to Shanghai and de surrounding townships for 8 days tour with full board plus one makan besar luncheon at a 5 star hotel where de toilets have each a small TV screen leh, all in all for a very special discount of S$288/- inclusive air fares.

  7. Hi Ron
Got meh, $288 for 8 day tour to Shanghai, airfare food and lodging and return??
Am I seeing the correct figure.
Pl enlighten me – which tour agent. Is it one and only time a special for only a specific time. My school classmate just emailed to join her $618 for 6 day to Cambodia and vietnam.
    Share your ho kang tow

  8. Let’s analyse what Ron said “…all in all for a very special discount of S$288/- inclusive air fares.”.

Thus, a literal reading (and we dont need to apply any contra proferenti to its construction) tells me that the $288 is a special discount. The mystery lies in the principal amount from which the discount was effected, and for this, we need Ron to tell us if he still remembers.

    Heee, Ron over to you.

  9. Hi Chin, Tim & Vwong

Further to my comment on holiday fare structure to Shanghai that I have had taken, let me enlighten you that the structure was a special discount, given once awhile, on promotion basic by a credit card company. As Chin is shopping around for discount fares very often in travels, I would be most pleased to let him know or others to know if I happened to meet up. as the rule says “NO DIRECT SALES”.

  10. On top what I have mentioned, the discount of the fare structure, includes:

    1) Q up for at least 2 hrs.

    2) Club membership of particular travel co.

    3) First 50 on Q line to qualify.

    4) And of course, de major credit credit of de
    particular bank required.

  11. Bro Ron, now I also kenna confused liao………….normally, a discount envisages a removal, a deduction; hence a 20% discount of $500 leaves $400 payable but to call the freebies “discounts” means there wont be any freebies…………….so why wd a merchant state the freebies in the first place when it’s not going to make the offer?

  12. Thanx Tim for pointing it out.
You write so much that I culd only skim thro’messages otherwise where got time to finish.
Got elated and exhilarated seeing $288. No see discount lah!

  13. Hi all, wah..so much warmth & concern hor. Now we know we have so many ho kang tows from SHC members. Also potential travel kakis. Glad we joined SHC. What do we silver hairs do everyday ? Loads- chitchat on line, chit-chat face-to-face, jokes in the air- all help lessen stress and prolong our lives. Thks Ron, my wife is not taking any medication at all as doctor says no need- no high blood pressire, no chloresterol,no diabetes.

  14. Hi Chin, Tim, Vwong

Nice to hear that your spouse need no med. Chin, keep it up.

I hear that, Tim & Vwong, you r seeing no discount, you must have known that a trip to any part of China, will be no less than $500. Anything to say that less than $500 is a discount, on top of de freebies whatever.

Vwong, may I have de liberty 2 know your name?

    Ronlai
