  1. Hi Dan, there’s an error in my attendance which is for sunday 1908, not wednesday 1508, the latter being a working weekday for me. Cheers……….. tim

  2. Dear Dan,

May I please know whether we are allowed to park at any parking lots surrounding the premises. Or is there designated lots for visitors? Kindly enlighten me and is the court easy to find? Thanks

    Catherine

  3. Hi Dan,

Sorry to ask this but do you have spare rackets ? It has been ages since i last played, else will try to get one.

    Cheers

  4. Hi Dan,

May I know the time from ? to ? since I had a picnic outing with my friends on this particular day.

  5. Hi Dan,

I had found another post on badminton sessions that confirm the time and day. found this ……

    Thanks
    Steven Chan

  6. Joy, not a problem if the thot of absenting yrself from the first Games Day Mtg bothers you bcos I’ll be going there too in a cab after the badminton & you can go with me.

Whatever, let’s wait to hear what Dan has to tell us.

  7. Hi Tim, I will be happy to ride with you. But methinks I shall just hop to Games Day meeting from my home.

Have a smashing good time and see you at 11am.

  8. Hi Ronald Wie,
Yes, I have spare rackets. Looking forward to meet you.

    Thanks
    Steven Chan

    I have the spare rackets.

  10. Hi Dan Huang

Me old and not holding a racket for 30 years, will you young men and ladies bear with me…. ahhah see u there, what time? Meet where? Can I borrow or share a racket with you?

  11. Hi Michelle,

Good to see that you are now responding to our SHC website.

Prove to us that you are a different
Michelle Han version 1.1 not the one that should be HUNG and PUNISHED – quoting from your own wordsfrom a previous email. Ha! Ha!

Look 4 ward to meet all,
    Steven Chan

  12. Hi Michelle,
Just ended our session at SPE from 6-800pm tonight. We have only Catherine and son, Ronald and Terence(just showing his face) and two newcomers Albert and Maggie.

Four hours and only six show up. We sweat until there is no sweat to sweat! Where are all the lazybones!

Michelle, next session is coming Sunday morning at Clementi Sport Hall from 9-11.00am.Spare racket provided.

  13. Next week session! 22/8/2007 (Wednesday)

    26/08/2007 (Sunday)
    Tampines Sport Hall Court 7/9 – 10.00-11.00am.
    Court 03 – 11.00-12.00nn.

    See you folks!

  14. Thank you Dan for booking the bedminton court sessions in different areas of Spore so that SHCs has NO excuses to say that the venue is TOO FAR.

    Thanks again,
    Steven Chan

  15. Thanks Steven for that positive note! That the best I could do at the moment as it is not easy to book at the place and time you choose.

Terence, I don’t mean to offend that you show your face only. Rather I mean you grace the occasion!

  16. Dear Dan,

Just a little note to say thanks for arranging the game yesterday. I had a good ‘sweat-out’. Although I would have preferred to play on longer, sadly I was lacking the stamina. On the whole my son and I enjoyed the game. Agree with Steven that arranging at different venues all over the island is a good way of ensuring more SHCians will be able to join you.

    Catherine

  17. Dear Catherine,

No problem at all. Hope more could join us for other session. I really need the work-out myself. As we go along I hope to get the general consensus as to the ideal day and timing for our sessions.

Ronald really go all out and even play a simple match with Albert. Maggie forgot her shoes and have to go back to her office to get them. By the time she got them it was 7.30pm and she got only half an hour to play.

  18. Hi Dan,

Thanks for the arrangement and the games. Sure was good fun, after almost 8 years since i last held a racket.

Will join you again anytime, when i am around in Sept. Sunday morning or any morning is a 0-15 for me lah, as the bed will always win.

We need more willing organisers like you Dan, also any Table Tennis, Pool convenors out there ?

    Cheers
    Allrounder

  19. Dan, Terence has 1 face that is much prettier than my 2 faces and fact that you too hv noted it shd please him.

Wonder why Maggie had to wear office shoes to play badminton……………

See you this sunday & next.

Pool….shd hv a fair bit of interest from YK, Gary Ong, Ronald Wi, myself but finding the place and fixing the time will be challenging.

  20. Tim, correction, Maggie left her badminton shoe in her office.Did not have a digital camera, otherwise could take all the action pix.

Btw, any one keen to buy Fuji Digital camera A800 8.3 pixel at $196.00, brand new!

  21. Huh huh so Maggie went to play badminton in her office shoes and left her badminton shoes in the office……….yes a digital camera wd hv recorded all the shoe changing action and the whys.

Btw, Dan, I’ll turn up this sunday 1908 having promised earlier but wont on sunday week if the dog is there as I detest dogs.

  22. Hi everyone,

I have called Kampong Ubi CC and the info is as follow:

    Passion card member rates:

    Before 6pm : $4/per hour
    After 6pm, block of 6pm – 8pm or 8pm – 10pm at $11 per block

If booking online, can only book court nbr 2.

Apparently, badminton is rather popular at this cc. So it is advisable to either call first or go down personally.

    Tel: 67423564, 67427281

    Shirley

  23. Hi I do go occasionally to this web to read about your activity.

Can I join you guys and gals on this wed evening for badminton. Although, I played once every week and enjoy the game,My skill level is very lousy.
I do have 2 spare rackets

  24. Hi Dan,

Sori, I wont be attending tis wed’s session bcos it will too late for me by the time I get home, I staying in the west.
Hope 2 join u all on 26/8 (Sun).

    veronlee

  25. Dear Dan

If not too tire, may drop in after my dance class on Wed (22/8/07) around 10pm.

BTW, you’ll have to fill in the ?? marks in the post.

Thanks for initiating the badminton sessions.

  26. Hi Lily, thanks for your help in consolidating the posting for the badminton session.Looking forward to your joining us at Tampines Safra.

During our last session at Clementi Sport Hall, we have a better turnup. They are Tim,Maggie, Albert, Steven Chan,Michelle,Eddie Lee and John Seah.

It was a good Sunday morning workout and sweating for all of us. Do hope that more can join us for the next session at Tampines Safra coming Wednesday from 9.00pm – 11.00pm and following Sunday at Tampines Sport Hall from 10.00am – 12.00nn.

  27. Dan, many thanks for an action-packed morning.

Several posts earlier you mentioned of a Lee better than Ah Ngoh and sure enough, he was a master-stroke, flicking the shuttle into no man’s land, making me pant and dropping my pants.

He can turn AN upside down so pls get Ngoh Ah to come again on Sunday.

To friends & foes out there, it’s worth the time to play badminton with Dan & his den – huffers & puffers all abt the same standard so no 15-0 affairs but close-call games.

  28. Heee, Clara, welcome & dont hv to declare it, I know you’re my friend, and my earlier “Friends & foes” was said in jest……..haha, if foe, just whack the shuttlecock at him lor, so easy……

    Now, I need a foe……………..

  29. Hi Dan,

I have to miss this Sunday’s session again due to family commitment. Sori, I keep procrastinating and really hope to join u all if time permits.

    veronlee

  30. Hello Dan,

Thank you for arranging one in the East. I will be there on Sunday, 26 Aug. Hope you have a spare racket for me??

    See you all on Sunday.

  31. Hi Clara/Gingko,

See you on sunday. Veron/leescv, hope you will join us for the next round.

Tim, that good player is Eddie Lee and not LeeAh Ngoh. He charge for coaching.

Anyone keep to pick up the basic in bedminton? I can get Eddie Lee to show us some tactics/strokes.

  32. Haha, Dan, I know ANgoh, having frazzled 15-0 in 8 minutes by him and so it was Eddie @ Clementi alright but going by his fluency and AN bereft of form, Eddie will turn AN upside down so NgohAh he is to me.

No worry folks, Dan & I hv at least 4 racquets combined.

  33. On our last session at Safra Tampines we have four persons who turn up. Newcomer KK Loh,Albert Tan, Maggie Teo and Dan. Two hours and just four players. It was real fun and sweat and blood because we keep changing partners.

Next Wednesday 29 August at Safra Yishun, Court 1 from 6.00pm – 8.00pm.

    Anyone game to join us!

  34. The report says “Two hours……..was real fun…….and blood because we keep changing partners..”

Wow wow still got original, pristine so this sunday 2608, die die also must go.

Dennis Wee, forget abt the papayas at Capt’s gdn, join us for badminton lah.

  35. Dan, what else can I think of when you continue to tempt with yr “bed”?

Like innocent, frivolous young gals like to say “…..heeee, you very bad leh……….”

  36. Hi Dan,

I shd be able to attend next Wed’s session but will be late bcos I finish work at 6pm. Cld u bring a spare racket for me? pls.

    veronlee

  37. What a good turn out! We have three hours of play. clara, Cheryl, Elizabeth and Ginko, I hope the four of you have a good time. Since you are beginner it better to improve on your strokes rather than learn to keep score for the time being. Sorry I have to rush off, other wise would love to join you all for lunch.

At the other court we have Dan, Tim John, KK Loh, Albert and Maggie. All of us really sweat it out as we are still short of players.

Coming Wednesday will be at Safra Yishun from 6.00pm-8.00pm. and following Sunday at Safra Tampines from 5.00pm-7.00pm. Come and join us lah!

  38. Dan

I don’t understand why you can’t edit (same situation as June Lim). You should be able to see “edit this” on your post when you log-in. May be the administrator can help clarify this. Anyway, have done some editing for you.

BTW, sorry I was too tire to turn up last Wed. Tampines is a long way for me. Any possibility of some venue more centrally located, like Toa Payoh for eg.? There are a few CCs and one Safra in TP.

  39. Hi Dan,

Thanks for a really smashing session. All that sweating, stretching, jumping, bending and picking up of shuttlecocks.

Janet, you are a good one! Frequently giving me the “drop shots”…. Very good exercise for me.

I had a good sweat-out and enjoyed the game and the company.

KK Loh, thanks for the very interesting conversation and “propaganda news”.

Look forward to seeing you all in the next session.

  40. Hi Tim,

Oooops! Sorry, almost forgot to thank you for lending me your good racket and you had to use a broken one.

    Sometimes, you surprise me… hee

  41. Dan, we had 2 courts for the first hour and 1 court for the 2nd which doesnt add up to 3 hours of badminton but, if you must, 3 court-hours of play for the 12 of us which was great, thanks !

But 2 hours with only 1 court come this sunday? Heeee, will adapt ourslevs to play 3-a-side but of cos no matter if the spirit is come to enjoy….

Gingko, it was my pleasure and I too will hv to thank John for lending me his racquet and doing all the running when covering court for me in the doubles.

  42. Hi Dan,

You have made Badminton a healthy activity. In support, the category “Badminton” is now up, just for you. Have a great healthy time ahead.

    Terence Seah

  43. Ooops, Terence, you’re totally mistaken.

As you can see thru this thread, what Dan wants is bedminton and it’s really real bad if anyone thinks of something else but a bed for him where on it he will hv fun with chest, seemingly his other love.

    Dan, wrong?

  44. Hi Dan,
Thank you so much to book this court for us. This sunday we forgotten we have something on, sorry we are not going on this week.

    Janet Ng

  45. Hi JuneC,

Okay will try to book in Toa Payoh.

Janet, sorry I mistook you for Clara. Okay join us whenever all of you could find the time.

Today we have a non-event at Safra Yishun. My mistake I book tennis instead of Badminton.

Maggie and Albert turn up. Have to stop Veron from coming. My apologies, and I owe all of you dinner on me.

Getting careless, I think I need a ton of gingko biloba.

  46. Hi Dan,
Thanks for booking another session at the east. However, i am not able to join in this sunday’s session as i have injured my foot since yesterday..cannot run nor jump…have to wait then…did have a nice session last week with the ladies…

  47. Hi Dan,

I must thank you for trying so hard to get my hp no. and managed to inform me on time when I was caught in the traffic jam along Thomson Rd b4 the pie exit towards home. Else, i will be driving all the way from city to Yishun n with the slow traffic during dat hr. Anyway, is nice to be home early 2day as i dun normally leave office so early.
See u all tis sunday at Safra Tampines.

  48. Hi Clara,

Sorry to hear about your foot, hope you recover soon.

Veron, yea first I try Pheng Soh and then Lina and then Lily Ho but it was Andrew who gave me your mobile. Otherwise I will have to face the wrath of a woman.

Next weekday session will be on a Thursday (6th September) at Safra Telok Blangah.

    Court 3 – 8.00pm – 10.00pm

Hope there will be more people staying in this area to join us.

  49. Hi Dan,

If you must take a ton of GinKGo Biloba, please do not take it at one go hor. I doubt it will enhance your memory or reduce your carelessness. On the contrary, your stomach may turn into a battleground… hee

See you all at 1700 this coming Sunday at Safra Tampines!

  50. Dear Veron,

I must confess that I was the one who coaxed Andrew into giving and passing your number to Dan all with good reason. We didn’t want you to make a wasted trip down only to find that tennis and not badminton courts were available.

Bit I am sure you will not be annoyed with anyone right seeing that we had your welfare at heart hehe

Will see you for a game one of these days when the bookings are on the West side.

    Cheers

  51. Hi Gingko,

Yea, how about 100 tablets at one go.See you on Sunday.

Cat,Andrew thanks for helping me out. Actually got the business card from Lily but with one digit missing. And Cat no excuse as next Thursday session will be at Safra Telok Blangah.

  52. My dear Andrew & Cat,

Very paiseh, I shd b the one to say sori and thank you for revealing my hp no. out of good intention. I cld imagine Dan’s anxiety in trying to get my hp no. for my sake and you both did the rite move in helping this poor guy. Otherwise, he would call every silverhair in his phone list and bill me the call charges…hehehe. I’m v touched.

Dan! after reading all your comments and from your expressions, i think i shd b the one owing u a dinner and not otherwise.

You said: “Otherwise I will have to face the wrath of a woman.” Dun worry lah, i wont get angry so easily bcos i still want to look pretty and happy. But, I will tell 2 cut down ur oolong cha. Sori! sori! sori!

  53. Hi janet,

Yes, do come and join us.

Btw, next Thursday session should be Safra Mount Faber.

Veron, just wondering what oolong cha can do to me.

  54. Hi Cat,

I will be joining tis Sunday’s badminton session. R u coming? We can have car pool, either you drive or I will drive. Hope 2 c u!

    veron

  55. Janet, come after signing, you pay $1; come without signing, you pay for the rest.

    Dan, right?

“I m v touched” doesnt mean you can touch.

    Dan, note.

Let’s look forward to a smashing time this Sunday with pretties coming in their smashing looks complete in their smashing attire and the guys dreaming of a swashbuckling aftermath……..but still, it’s a “no touch”.

  56. Veron,

Will sms you sunday if going? I am sure you know where it is because I haven’t the faintest clue.

Thanks for car-pool suggestion, will be great! Won’t get lost for sure, two heads are better than one,

    Thanks

  57. Tim,

Don’t put too much pressure on them, otherwise there will only be just the two of us sweating it out.

You are very quick to spot a woman weaknesses. Anyway no hanky-panky and concentrate on our bedminton.

  58. Oooops, thanks Dan for the timely reminder….yes, will leave it to the masseuses to spot where the pressure points are but meanwhere do you know where Tampenis safra is & how to spot it?

Hahaha, you die die also want it as bedminton………

  59. Hi Dan,

Tim likes to joke, he not such a person. Why not you consider booking at Crawford CC, opposite Golden Miles at Beach Rd, so stay at the west and east side can play together. Those who stay at Toa Payoh also can join us. I just bring out, don’t know the place is suitable for all of us.

  60. Hi Tim,

Safra Tampenis is near the Industrial Park just as you turn in from Pie. Also close to the Soka Association. It along Tampenis Ave 1 and Tampenis Street 92 If still lost I will look for a road map for you.

    Janet,

I am still trying to find the website for PA to try online booking. Noted your suggestion and Lily suggestion at Eunos.

  61. Hi Dan & bAdminton players,

You will NEVER find the place.. or your way, if you don’t get the street name right.

    Correct spellings are:

    Place: Safra TAMPINES
Street: Along TAMPINES Ave 1 and TAMPINES
    Street 92

    Happy navigating!

  62. Hi Dan & bAdminton players,

You will NEVER find the place.. or your way, if you don’t get the street name right.

    Correct spellings are:

    Place:
    Safra TAMPINES

    Street:
Along TAMPINES Ave 1 and TAMPINES Street 92

    Happy navigating!

  63. Hi Joy,

Paiseh, paiseh you and Gingko have decoded our brotherly body language. Don’t let Terence know, otherwise we will be sent to Timbuktu.

Joy, are you joining us this Sunday from 5.00pm-7.00pm?

  64. Hi Dan,

Not to worry. If ever you are sent to Timbuktu, I will be the first person come visit you.. with curry chicken, potato and steamed rice.. heehee

OK to be notti sometimes but don’t become nutty.. heehee

  65. If it’s spelt as “pines” but pronounced as otherwise then I hv to look for pines and not that otherwise, to guide me there…….In spore, casuarinas a lot, that “otherwise” also a lot but pines, where?

(Seriously, Thanks Dan Dolly, Gingko …. my poser was for help to answer the gals’s ask for direction)

Timbuktu has a lot of cuckoos………….wonder why the gals want to go there, maybe to lie on that badmintonbed ?

  66. Hi Dan

I had indicated my interest in badminton since you first started this activity, but have yet to make my appearance for some reason or other.

I play BADminton because my standard is bad (void deck standard) and my stamina may be worse (I think). Maybe I should not take up court space and just play along the corridor.

I have a net, shuttle cocks and a racket or two somewhere in the deep recesses of my store room.

But Tampines is so far away. The journey will be longer than the game. So, I guess I will wait for another venue another time.

    Joy

  67. Hi Joy,

Since you are staying in Bukit Batok, are you able to get a lift from Catherine or Veron.

Don,t worry about your poor form. We have Janet, Gingko, Cheryl, Clara and Elizabeth who are probably in the same league as you.

  68. Hello JOYful Joy, come join us. It’s good exercise.

Ha, ha, Dan, no need to broadcast my form like that lah. There were so many hunks around at my first lesson, how did you expect me to concentrate on the game? Simple excuse was to pick shuttlecocks lor…

  69. Hi Dan and Gingko

Ooh la la. I am coming! Veron is giving me a ride. How sweet of her.

I have just retrieved two of my rackets from the store room. It says “Yang Yang” brand. Sounds like some unknown Chinatown thingy eh, till I saw this on the shaft “Endorsed by former World Champion Yang Yang and …. (can’t see the other name, faded away already).”

See you and all the Ronald Susilos there!

    Joy

  70. Hi Dan Huang,
I am Pearlynn. I am keen to play badminton. Its difficult to book a court to play. Always book Woodlands which is so far away until we gave up playing. Its been really a long while & my racket no longer can be used. I prefer Telok Blangah court. Will try to make it there next Sunday. If I go there without a racket, can someone lend me??

  71. Hi Dan,
Its me again. If can book Bishan or Toa Payoh CC to play wld also be great. After the game, can go for drinks together. As for karaoke – not sure if everyone is keen as it would be “sticky & sweaty” to be in an air con room, rite?

  72. Hi Joy,

Don’t worry, hopefully some of Yang Yang the former world champion dust will rub on you and who know you would have played better than most of us.

Pearlynn, now you have no excuse to join us. Rackets are plentiful. Will check on the karoeke thing. Funny thing, do you know that being in an aircondition room take away all the stickiness and sweatness!

  73. KK – Wa, calling Ms Gingko, sounds formal, but I like that!

Sorry to hear you are down with a flu. Well, rest well and take care. Catch up with you on all the news again soon.

Veron & Joy – Looking forward to seeing you. Join in the fun and watch me pick shuttlecocks. I should be better than the last time…

  74. Hi Gingko,

Will see u all very soon but I’m no better than anyone of you. I need a sifu to teach me how to hold the racket first than I can start. Pls be patient with me lor! I guess u shd be better than me, for sure!

  75. Hey Veron,

Just a thought came to mind. You are sooooo sporty, do you swim? It will be nice to have one after a badminton game to refresh… I don’t mean to wash ourselves in the pool, heehee. It’s advised that one should not swim alone. Personally, I don’t like to swim alone (there’s a song called “I don’t like to sleep alone”, very funny!), so am wondering if you are keen to lap a few rounds next time.

  76. Hi KK,

We miss a good player, have a speedy recovery.

Gingko/Veron, don’t worry we will have plenty of session to improve. I love to swim too. Hope to have a swim time after our coming Sunday session. Who else are in favor?

We have a good turnout on Sunday 2nd September. Newcomers Lin Tan, Joy and Veron. Then Gingko, Janet, Cheryl, Tim, Ronald, Albert, Maggie and Dan.

Two hours and we thought it not enough for the eleven of us but in the end we manage.

Some of us stayed and have our dinner at Tampines Mall Food Court. They are Dan, Gingko, Joy, Veron, Lin and Ronaild Wie.

  77. Hi Pearlynn, Look like more in favor of Tampines Safra for this coming Sunday.

I will give up the booking for Telok Blangah CC.
Will keep you posted for our next seesion in your area.

  78. It was great to see 11 of us altho we did miss KK, John & Eddie, and it was a shame that Ronald was forced to retire due to a groin injury (did I describe it a half a metre higher than it was?)

Methink it provides more playtime if there’re 2 courts for 2 hours assuming there’re at least 8 players. Or perhaps a 11 point scoring for doubles to reduce turnaround time?

  79. Hi Tim,

You got it wrong again. It his calf that suffer cramps, don’t imagine it otherwise.

Good suggestions. Will try to get two courts for two hours and 11 points game.

  80. Ooops, me wrong again??

Coming from you, it has to be right that I was wrong…….since you were looking and touching what he showed you…..and then he giggled, you giggled and from afar, my imagination started to twiddle………

Dan, you’ve been working very hard to get us courts – much appreciated – so no worry even if it’s 1 court for 10 minutes, it’s the effort that counts.

  81. Hi Dan, Thank you again for booking the court, and giving a bonuse at the end of the game… ice-cream banana splits and “rolling” watermelon slices to pump up potassium intake. Good!

Allrounder*Always-Not-Around, So sorry you injured your foot. Worse than I thought. Do not delay going to the doctor or ti-da; massage won’t help. Hope you recover quickly.

  82. Ronald Wie, isit

Did you do some muscles stretching exercise before the game? It is a MUST hor. Drink 100+ after the game to replenish your potassium losses to avoid further cramp.

    Dan,
Can’t wait to join you guys and gals. Miss so many rounds :(

  83. Hi Tim,

I am lost for words! Anyway you did a ‘Jet Lee style’ in retrieving a shot and falling flat on your tummy. Good try!

Rene, thanks for the timely advice. All of us must take time to do some warm-up before the game. I suffer the same fate too, and could nor drive home at all. we are still waiting for you to show up!

  84. Dan, with that drop shot executed so crisply, beautifully, even Rudy Hartono wd hv been Rudy Habes so who was I not to fall for your beauty?

Hope you’ve driven off for home by now and not sitting inside yr car in the car park doing yr warming up waiting for Rene to show up?

  85. Nice of Dan to have initiated this badminton group. Had great fun yesterday with the whole group. Great company for dinner too! And thanks to Dan for the banana split and fruits treat.

I understand that Ronald is recovering from his injury and am glad to hear that. Didn’t know that Dan was injured too. Hope you are getting better too Dan…

  86. Joy, happy Dan treated you to a banana for that trick shot that felled tim so if the next time he can cause tim to split his pants, he might treat you to a 1-nite stay at the grand o’dame with Edwin in attendance doing his solo band……btw, Edwin where the hell are you?

I miss you leh…………remember, we hv yet to finish Patches?

  87. And yes Tim, may I know why you didn’t want to sit next to me on the edge of the bench. Why oh why. Heart still hurting from the rejection. Hee hee…or as Dan’s PDA says, “Heehaw”.

  88. Hi Dan,

Thanks for being so patient to partner with this lousy player and sori if I had spoilt ur game with Tim. I juz wonder whether I could improve or not? Swimming ha, not for me leh!
Hope the $3.50 dinner which I treated you is not too cheap to compensate for all the trouble dat you had gone thru in trying to get my hp no.

  89. Veron,

When there a will there a way. Just have to pick more shuttlecorks (Hope I got the spelling correck)otherwise I ‘get hamtam’ to improve your stokes. (Tim, don;t get funny ideas)

I am always ready for another treat. If I am fortunate.

Oh Yew kwong! am I glad to hear from you. You are most welcome! Don,t run alone. Run around with so many beauties here.

  90. Joy, obviously you hv lost yr heart for me and you’re making me confess, and confess I shall……..my last bath was on Friday nite lah so still want me to sit near you?

Veron, no one is a lousy player. I can say for sure, everyone’s correct with the racket grip/hold and the strokes [forget abt Dan’s stoke-up of a desire to pope (sic)]. Let;s see whether he’ll incorreckly bring us shuttlecorks and leave behind the correct shuttlecocks on sunday.

Regular play will polish our game further, our timing & reflexes, and builds up our confidence as is evident in Albert/Maggy’s play.

  91. Hi Dan,
In order for this activity 2b included in the SHC calendar, can you kindly email d details to me when you updated ur post cos I am unable to do so as I can only looked out at latest comments to do this update.

  92. Hi anybody there?

Last week was a non-event. Today was uneventful.
Only Dan turn up. Not a soul was in sight.

Dan have to hit the shuttle over and run over to hit the shuttle back for almost an hour and till nobody came.

Yew Kwong, good thing you did not turn up. There was no beauty but a beast running around.

  93. Hi Dan

Sorry to hear that you are running around the courts single-handedly, I would be most happy to be there, but…….as a spectator.

The reason is that I have hung my rackets long long ago. I was a school player during the hay days, but now my old bones may not be able to carry the weight any more, not to say to run all over the courts chasing some little white feathers. I think it is better to kick some feathers with Terence n Tim, what you call “chatek”, during the Games Day.

    Ronlai

  94. Hi Ron,

No worry, I did play 2 sets of double with some of them playing at the next court. Was all sweaty after I left the place.

Do understand your problem. At our age need to be careful that our knees are still holding up.

  95. Hi Ron

I 2 understand your concern abt our knees. In fact many members here hv also advised against running.

Seriously, there is always risk in whatever we do be it sports or desk job. As long as we keep it within our limits, I consider it safe n sound unless unexpected events come abt.

  96. Ron, do pls join us for bedminton. No worry, Dan keeps an inflatable bed in his waist pouch for us to rest on (now you know why his game is not badminton).

Frankly, other than Eddie, Albert, Maggy and KK who play regularly, the rest of us are leisure players, while attired like Rudy Hartono, our strokes are rusty & so-so.

And in doubles, only 1 player needs to run. I like to partner Dan….I cheer, he runs, sometimes single-handedly but usually very fleet-footed.

  97. Hi everyone
Saw next week game will be at Toa Payoh Safra but unfortunately I will be travelling for the next 2 weeks (sigh!). I was looking forward to joining and meeting you people but never mind another time then…

  98. Hi JuneC,

There will always be another time.

Btw, if response are lacking for the weekday session, I may want to scrape it and focus on the Sunday session.

  99. Tim, as I told Dan I can be only a spectator or one step forward, be a referee, if you need me, whether bedminton or badminton, too bad no go. otherwise will be bedridden, lah, with just one game.

    Ronlai

  100. Hi all,

When is the next badminton game ? Sad lah have to wait another 4 to 6 weeks according to doctor’s advice for my calf muscle tear ( due to not having enough warming up and doing enough stretching exercise). The swelling is due to blood clot forming after the muscle tear, so bigger muscle bigger blood clot.

Thought being a regular jogger and playing games often is good enough, but it is always good to be properly streched before starting a game.

So it is not due to cramps, so bananas may or may not be also good for helping to warm up the muscles as much as the heart and brains ?

So Dan, maybe good to remind all, to remember to warm up and stretch before starting the game so as to avoid unnecessary injury.

So see you all the in Oct/Nov.

    Cheers,
    Allrounder

  101. Hi Ronald,

Sorry to hear of your condition. Hope you recover soon.

Thank for the reminder about warming up before playing badminton and I suppose it goes for any games.

Banana which contain potassium may still help to prevent legs and ankles cramps after a strenous workout.

  102. Hi Ronald Wie

Very sorry to hear abt your calf muscle tear injury, better to take a good rest n relax more so as to enable you to recover faster. If you had recovered, Sinabong, JB, is waiting for us to make another trip up north for the marvellous seafood and ambience.

Dan, keep me inform as regards to your next session of badminton, I will be there…..but just to support you and the rest of your kakies, be it Wong Peng Soon, Rudy Hartono or Ronald Susilo.

    GET WELL, WIE.

    Ronlai

  103. Hi Ron & all, no worries can still walk and drive to JB/Malacca lah not to mention Senibong.

But serious games or badminton for a while.

Any one to JB next Tuesday, or Malacca last week of Sept ?

    Cheers,
    Allrounder

  104. Hi Ron,

Thanks for your V. GOOD ADVICE re warming up b4 playing badminton otherwise there will certainly be more casualties.

I thought potassium in bananas is good for the heart and that is why I will always have a bunch of bananas hanging in my kitchen daily.

When I returned from K.Lumpur, is it OK for me to visit you one day to see how you are getting on ?

Hope you have a SPEEDY Recovery,
    Steven Chan

  105. Hi Ronald Wie,
    I hope I didn’t misinterpret your
“Any one to JB next Tuesday, or Malacca last week of Sept”
as an open invitation for SHCians to join in.
    Can you please elaborate? Thanks.

  106. Forget to mention.

After sweating out hard, drink STAMINADE or POCARI Sweat. These drinks will with its isotonic mineral salts will help to REPLENISH the SALT content in our blood.

Lack of SALT and SUDDEN exertion of the muscle whether swimming or badminton will
    cause MUSCLE CRAMP.

Also too much of LACTIC ACID built up in the body during respiration too will cause MUSCLE CRAMP.

Have anyone experience a sudden muscle cramp while sleeping and u wake up with a SUDDEN PAIN around your anke muscles.

    I have. Did you ?

    Steven Chan

  107. Hi Ron,

Next session will be coming Thursday(13/09) at Safra Toa Payoh from 8.00pm-10.00pm and coming Sunday (16/09) at Tampines Sport Hall from 10.00am to 1.00pm (4 hours of play)

Steven, yes I do suffer legs and ankle cramps and the pain is excruciating!

    Hi Ronald/Mary,

Seems to have a cross line here! Just pulling your legs.

  108. Ron, bedridden for bedminton, that’s a good one.

    Now, comes the bad one.

Saw it as Tampines Sports hall so was there on 90907, called/msg Dan when no Dan, Den, Dam was there so finally played with the training kids who, altho no taller than a badminton racket, were blinding with their smashes……….

  109. Last Sunday we have a good turnout!

Dan, John Seah, Maggie and Albert paired up to play sterling double games! Was a hard fights.

Cheryl and Albert partner to beat Dan and Maggie in the double.

Joy, Janet, Lin, Elizabeth have their own kind of fun and sweat shutteling the ‘little white feather’.

Photos shot will soon be put up in the web!

  110. Dan, 9xxxx602…….care to fill in the blanks?

Called you at 11.05 a.m. followed with a sms but received yr reply almost 4 p.m. by which time, it was match, set, game & prize presentation over.

(But dont hv to feel bed, I had the real badminton with children who all looked like Sir Wong PS.

Veron is a nice gal hor & I hv made my vows to her, knees bent, to cease & desist fr being noti openly so will not oolong with her no matter how much you tempt me.

  111. Hi Dan

Thanks for infor, will try to be there (support only) on Thursday 13th Sept. On 16th Sept I would’nt be in Singapore, will be going on VIRGO cruise to Bangkok/Hua Hin.

    Ronlai

  112. Timsan, you made me v peiseh and blush lah!
You and Dan shd stop drinking oolong tea bcos u 2 are equally “Oolong”. One went to the wrong place and d other booked the wrong court.
Dan, now you know wat is the meaning of “Oolong” n still wan me to concoct oolong tea for Tim to aggravate his oolongness.
I will concoct pig’s brain with oysters for u both to solve your memory problems. Must take 3 X a day for 1 wk and your memory will improve after dat lor. Hehehe!

  113. Veron, read you late but better late than navel.

In all honesty, I took a hard look of the venue on (last) Friday and was dead sure it was Tampines Sports Hall but then, well, since the rest went to Safra, they must hv been brought there by a chartered bus fr the Hall.

Well, I would love to drink the pig soup. But D\dont you think it is too much?

(The last sentence was fr my kiddo…….)

But for me, there’s never enough so where, when & how will I get to drink yr oyster in Dan’s brain soup?

    In return, I’ll spend 3 X a day for 1 wk with you………….

  114. Yesterday was a pretty good turnup.

Lily, Yew Kwong, Ronald, Dolly and Molly was here to give their moral support and joining the burnout session. Lily show that she got what it take to perform some smashing shots. Dolly being a squash player also display good return shots.

Maggie, Albert, John Seah and Dan again play terribly good double match.

Eunice and new comer Betty Lim were pretty good with their wrist control and anticipation in their return shots.

  115. Aiyo, Dan, you reli hv problem wif names ending wif …ly hor… me nothing la…no squash player.. Molly is, me hor si mi player pun hmm si except dry swimming la…

But hor, thanks for the arrangement, reli enjoyed the games.. cheers…. Dolly

  116. Dan Huang,

I like your quiet sense of humour, but then hor, how can you concoct ginkgo biloba with OOOOOLONG. One is for memory enhancement, the latter is to confuse.

Okay, I will do you a good deed. When the ginkgo nuts in my backyard are ripe for picking, you can come and eat to your heart’s content. That would probably “fix” you… haha

  117. Dear Dan,

You oolong again, veron dun drink oolong tea, i only drink green tea and teh kuan yim. I think you better start drinking your pig’s brain with oyster soup, very good for your brain and memory. Otherwise, next time you wont mix up names but tel nos of all your beauties……..

  118. Hi Dan/Veron/others,

BEWARE ! Pig’s brain soup had vERY HIGH Cholesterol.

    I too take it sometimes.
The pig brain white/grey matter is YUMMY and CREAMY like ice cream when it is cooked with HERBS like tong kwai, teh chee, dang gui pian and wah sian, the taste is “Out of this World”.

My favourite stall at Outram Park Pearl’s Hill Complex has just “disappeared”. Quite rare to find these stalls around.

Can anyone of you HELP pls.recommend me your favourite pig brain herbal soup ?

    Awaiting your reply,
    Steven Chan

  119. Today, we have Dan, KK Loh, Tim and Maggie playing some beautiful double games.

Albert, John, Betty and Andrew (He look exacted like Ronald Wie)also have their share of hard fought double games.

Fours hours of play with eight players is not enough. Even have to give up one court.

  120. Hi Dan,

Is badminton on this coming Sunday (23 Sep)?

Ref. Comment #104, what about swimming? Can badminton be scheduled later so that we have a dip after the game when the sun is not blazing hot?

  121. Hey Gingko, I was wondering why you said venue and time were not indicated when I saw it there all along. You going this Sunday?

There has been much discussion on the efficacy of goji and one claim is that it is good for eyesight.

A spoonful of goji a day keeps the blindspots away. Time to buy one big packet. Hee..

Dan, has anyone indicated that he/she is going tomorrow? I don’t like to think of it being another lone beast without any beauties night.

  122. Hi Joy & Dan,

Sorry, sorry, my mistake. The details ARE there. Either I was half awake, or my eyes aren’t fully recovered from the bad infection last week. Guess I should take Joy’s advice. Have a spoonful of Goji a day… Yuck!

Joy, I will be there on Sunday. Hope to see you.

KK Loh, what about you? Also, Tim, Janet, Cheryl and Elizabeth. Are you all coming?

  123. Aiyo, Veron,
2molo la.. I dun tin i can take such a big effort 2 travel so far 2 Tampines on Sun so early la. 100% sure lost way 2 there 1… oso prefer 2 koon la…hehehehe… cu 2molo ok…

  124. Helo Dolly,

Ya hor, sun sesssion very early. In fact, i m having a slight cough now n not wise to exercise. I will drop by if u all 1 2 adjourn 4 dinner. I normally leave office at 6.30pm.

  125. Yes, Veron, do drop by 4 dinner wif us… Yeap, not 2 exercise if not feelg 2 bad.. always hv d opportunity 2 la.. health first rite… C u then… Dolly

  126. Today we have Dan, Ronald Lee, Molly, Dolly, Lily, Susan a newcomer Daniel Siew to play exciting double games.

We almost have some casualties as Dolly tumble on her butt and hurt her shoulder which need some rubbing. In the subsequent game Molly slip and Lily almost landed on her and got hurt in the process.

Anyway, the three of them survive the ordeal and pull through with flying colors. All of us really feel refresh after all the running and sweating.

Thereafter we adjourned for dinner and enjoy some japanese cuisines,

  127. Hi Gals

Will give free treatment 4 ur injuries on tis wkend as I will be going ard the island moonlighting as a chinese madicine seller. No choice leh bcos current job draws v little pay. 100% recovery guaranteed. Lai lai, mai gao yao.

  128. Hi Yew Kwong,

BEWARE! Better don’t massage these SHC Beauties on their injured legs or they will charge you with molest and LUP SOK LEH in Canto.

Don’t pay they report police. Moonlight or Playout.

    Steven

  129. Hey Yew,

Why didnt yew join us 2nite hah? 2 bizzy selling go yok isit?

    Dan said :

“Dolly tumble on her butt and hurt her shoulder which need some rubbing.” Dan, rub where hah? the butt or the shoulder? And did you volunteer to do it for her?

    Correction to Dan’s commentary :

Molly & Lily were playing against two sumos aka Ron Lee & Daniel Siew. The game was heating up when both flowers tried at the same time to save a drop-shot delivered by sumo2 and succeeded but in the process, Molly fell and Lily got leg cramp from wearing line-dance shoes to a badminton session. Aiyo Lily, you can’t dance like a badminton player and play like a line dancer lah. (The same leg that got cramped in Sijori pool… sob, sob..)

  130. Aiyo, I m beginning 2 wander now hor is playing badmintion under ‘SHC’ is a ho kangtao anot liao..

si mi dai zhi oso kena broadcast here leh.. no secret liao.. vry chiam leh..

Anyway, thanks for the concern, I am ok la. All players last nite shd noe this beta rite cos I m joking as usual during dinner time lor.

Dan, ‘can’t chong’ and shy shy wat har?
‘cc’ or line dance?? LOL… :) Nvrtheless, appreciated ur concern.. ‘cc’ ok la.. got lots of cushion (pui bak) mah.. so impact not 2 so bad lor.. actually is shoulder is dat having more pain which was much beta after I rub some ointment liao

  131. Understand today Surly walked like a duck just
like Lily last week friday. he..he..he Guess Dolly must be standing whole day today cos her butt cannot touch the chair or she will ‘aiyoh aiyoh’

  132. I am not familiar with the booking system at Safra but will check next tues when I am there. Poor Ronly, just bout badminton shoe on wed now may have to hang the shoe if we r not able to play.

  133. 3.5 hours, two courts. Alone with three “beasts” running around one court. Heavy early morning downpour got me wet, but that did not dampen my spirits. Wow, what a workout! Great lesson today. All the valuable tips, correct strokes and techniques. Dan, Tim & KK thank you very much for being so patient and treated me like a “princess” today. :-) Veron, Joy, wish you were here.

Tim, sorry I couldn’t help. On second thought, I am only good at filing (as in putting documents in good order) and filing my nails, but filing bones… ehhhhh. Hope you won’t suffer tomorrow.

  134. Last Sunday we have Dan, Tim, KK Loh and Gingko who turn up. Four players for four hours of play. Dan lost to Tim in the single match. Tim, you must have gone for jungle training, your drop-shots were terrific!

The rain have probably affect some from turning up. Have to give up two hours of play.

After match after match of double play we were so exhausted that Dan l have to crawl to get back home.

  135. Gingko, it’s never easy for a smooth change-over from playing tennis (and the racket hold, swing) to playing badminton but I can see that you’re getting into the rythm, slowly but surely. And confidently.

(The niggling pain in my heel got worse and so I am a doubtful starter this sunday, 30 Sep 2007).

Dan, our telepathy in partnering has definitely improved as we never need to hit each other’s racket to send the shuttlecock over.

I particular;ly like yr shot-placings, teasing and sending yr opponent the wrong way most of the time.

As usual, it was another great sweat-out, thanks.

  136. Hi Dan ,

    Correction# 143

Is Janet & Albert partner to beat Dan & Maggie in double. ( Sorry Dan I think you have mistake Janet as Cheryl) Sorry didn’t rectify the mistake as I busy and didn’t read the posting until now. Pai Sei is Janet that can play very well not me leh!

    Thanks !

  137. Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for pointing it out. Thought the three of you has gone back to Malaysia.

Are all of you coming this Sunday? I owe the three of you a free lunch.

  138. Last Thursday we have five players who turn up. Dan, Ronald Lee. Dolly, Molly and Ronald Wie.

Manage to play double games with only three rackets among us. Have to borrow one racket finally to continue our double games.

Thereafter we have a sumptuous dinner of steam boat fish head soup. Yam Yam!!

  139. Last Sunday we have three hours of so;id play. Dsn, John Seah, Albert and Maggie has as usual our hard fought double games.

Veron, Janet and Elizabeth has their own play at the next court. Seven of us were kept busy playing continuosly because of shortage of players.

Tim is now out of action having to nurse a niffling pain in the knee. Dan also suffered from a severe legs cramp after the strenous games.

  140. I was up at 6 a.m. sunday morning and started gelling my hair to show-off at the tampines showdown with you folks….but when I tried to put on my right shoe, it just wont get in.

Hahaha, Dan it wasnt like you said “a niffling pain” but a niggling pain that nibbled, and it was at my heel, not ankle.

No matter, a pain is a pain and I’ll try to join you all come this sunday altho heeee, what if you cant turn up bcos of yr leg cramp?

Thanks, Clara, I feel a lot better now and will definitely gel my hair higher (if necessary, with props) for you if you & I both can show up this sunday.

  141. Hi Dan – Was Veron there on Sunday? Hmmm, I don’t remember seeing her. Must have fallen out of your car when Janet broke your car door.

Hi Tim, missing you in action. Hope you are better and will see you next week.

  142. Hi Gingko,

I think you have mistaken, I not the one who broke Dan car. Dan mistaken you as Veron as last time he mistaken me as Cheryl. But after the correction he will remember your name. You got a lot improvement, keep it up. Jia You!

  143. Thanks, Gingko, yes, it’s better now (and so I managed to sneak my foot into my shoe) and shd be able to see you this week earlier than next.

  144. Hi Clara,

    Thanks for the concern.

Tim, you sure you will be up and about coming Sunday. Otherwise, us poor thing have to play non-stop until we drop.

I will be at the Wednesday and the Sunday session. Hope my hands and legs cramp don’t acted up again.

Aiyoh Gingko, I mistaken you for Veron! I hope I am not seeing ‘double’ after so many double games. I think my mind goes bonker!

  145. Hi Gingko, when u all were having fun at badminton court, I was at Mandai praying to my late dad. So, my late dad created a clone veron to be there.

Hey Dan, this round you were not ooolong or seeing double. In fact, you sighted me but was my clone. BELIEVE IT OR NOT?
So, the next time if you meet me, must check whether the original veron or the clone one you are talking to. Now your mind will go more bonker hor………
Eat more bananas and your legs cramp will be ok, because monkeys always jump up and down n never get cramp lor. hehehe…………..

  146. Hi Veron,

Will take you suggestion. Probably need to bring my magnifying glass too!

When out to buy a big bunch of bananas. Hope this will work and you will see me jumping from tree to tree. oooeeeoooo!

  147. Hi Dan,

After dancing with so many ladies , you have been “transformed” to be TARZAN jumping from tree to tree. oooeeeoooo!

    Have FUN!
Btw. You seem to have a problem with your eyesight.Have an optician to check out your present power in your spectacles. Is it Ok or you need to add more power.

  148. Steven, have not started dancing yet. Just wondering what will happen when I really begin dancing!

Problem is not my eyesight, thanks to Goji juice. But I think it is my kepala, it not registering the persons and places as it shoild.

  149. Hi Dan,

Lack of “good quality” SLEEP contribute to lapse of memories and is more common among people like us around the 50s to 70s.

Another option, ask GINGKO,our consultant for Gingko Nuts for more advice before taking some Gingko Biloba capsules ,it might help.

    Take care,
    Steven

  150. Yes, Dan, I shd be able to go tis sunday…..since only my right heel hurts, will take kiddo’s advice to tie my right leg to my left leg so that I dont need to use my right leg….but like that, you still want to partner me?

The instruction in #197 says “So, the next time if you meet me, must check whether the original…..”

Dan, pls continue with yr bedminton & let me do you the favour of checking……..thorough & complete.

(oooops, sorie V, for being noti noti again but pity me hor, how do resist the invite………?)

  151. Yesterday, we have rather good turn-up. Lily, Dolly, Molly, Ronald Lee and Yew kwong for the double games. For Yew Kwong, bedminton is not strenous enough for him, he still need to go for his regular jog.

Eddie, Dan, Maggie and Albert play invigorating double games. Dan survive the worse, but was not able to continue playing as he is running out of breath!

Eddie, a very good player was sounding tips to Dolly, but she was nonchalant!

  152. Michelle and Grace Kok turn up to give us moral support. Both came but did not play.

Thanks so much for coming. Hope to see both of you coming the next round in the proper attire.

  153. Yesterday we have a fantastic turn-up!

Tim, John Seah, Maggie and Albert Tan were the earlybirds. It was competitive doubles play all the way.

Newbies Grace Kok and Peggy join KK Loh and Tim on the other court. Andrew Wong and wife Patsy and son Bryan with Shirley and Arthur, all newbies entertained us with their solid doubles games.

Pretty good responses this round, we even have to book another hour of play.

Due to the dance class having started, our weekday session which fall on a Wednesday may be put on hold.

  154. “Tim, John Seah, Maggie and Albert Tan were the earlybirds. It was competitive doubles play all the way”.

    Not quite.

The 4 of us didnt get to play any doubles together altho that wd hv been easier to stomach that than getting clobbered 15-kosong by a sprightly 90-year old ah pek & his kaki………

  155. Dan, the time fixture for this sunday’s game at TPayoh, as posted and reads “Time: (10.00am-11.00nn) Court 2, (11.00am-12.00am)”, isnt quite correct.

If it is “10.00 am – 11.00 am” and “11.00 am-12.00 nn” then we are sure we’ll get to sleep by midnite on beds and not playing bedminton.

  156. JuneC, you are most welcome!

Tim,thank for the correction. I was late, therefore missing out on the action.

I have corrected the posting. Don’t keep assuming it bedminton time!

  157. Aiyah….yah it was you who coined, created, fiercely promoted & made famous the now unforgettable term “bedminton” but now huh, you funn-kuat (canto, turn bone)& come accusing me of assuming ………..knn, a fella like that huh, my butties call him a buggerlor………(and will this new credential work you up to another orgasmic epic…….?)

  158. Yesterday we have good a turnout!

Molly, Susan, Ronald Lee and Peggy play god double game at their leisurely pace on one court.

Dan, Tim, Shirley and newcomer Vivien Cheng played a double game but lost to the two ladies.

On the other court we have Dan and newcomer Bernard Chaing, a very season player playing doubles games against Shirley Tay and June Chong, another good player. We lost the first set, but won the next two sets.

Bernard was feeling agitated when we lost the first set. His advice was that I should cover the front because the girls are hitting at me the weaker player. This change of strategy allowed us to win in the rubber set.

Three hours of play was just sufficient for us though we miss good player like Albert, Maggie, John Seah, KK Loh and Ronald Wie and other regulars.

Dan again neglect to do warm-up and suffered almost two hours of legs cramp!

  159. Heee, sorie butty, I hv to elaborate further on “Dan, Tim, Shirley and newcomer Vivien Cheng played a double game but lost to the two ladies”. The guys actually succumbed 15-kosong to the gals……a hiding but no hiding from the truth.

“Bernard was feeling agitated……….” Trust me, he wont ever again…..the next time there’ll be a cane placed close to his backside…….Enjoy; win or loss counts nought (that’s why we banchang and got 15-0 which’ll make them very happy for the rest of the year).

Usually, a two-hour leg cramp will continue for 2 days so dont worry, you’ll be fit as a fiddle by yr danz nite……….which will give you another round of 2-day cramp till this sunday’s Games Day.

  160. Hi Lily,

    Sorry for the speelling lah!

Oh ‘rubber set’ means the third set deciding on the winner.

Actually it teos cramps and not fingers cramp after too much mj.

  161. Hahaha, lucky you clarified quickly(#215).

Even if it’s just 1 rubber, Lily will squirm………so I can see her chasing you with the for-some-time-unused but still usable roller pins if it’s to be a set of rubber……..

  162. Last Sunday we have Dan, Rene, Linda and Peggy playing double game almost all the way.

Ronald Wie and KK Loh, due to lack of players played single games until there are totally exhausted.

Due to poor and uncertain attendance and problem in booking court, bedminton may be shelved.

Look out for new posting on another form of exercise!

  163. Sorie, Dan, the niggling pain in my heel returned after my chatek juggling @ G’Day……….strange, football & rugby never hurt me.

Ointment applied on Sat nite was no relief so I had to sms you with regrets in the morning.

I await in bated breath for yr next exercise …surely, it cant be less steamy than this bed thingy ?

  164. Mary, as a kid, I punctured ah peks’ car tyres. Ah pek now, I punctured kids’ ballooons when their parents arent watching.

So revenge time for them if i go for acupuncture. And when you come to collect me, you wont find an inch of me un-punctured, my silverhairs not spared.

  165. So Tim, you graduated from Dennis the Menace to Gargamel (Smurfs) huh?
Serious. Several people I know have recovered from heel pains after going for acupuncture, my mum included.
Try using one of those gel pads for the heel that can fit into your shoes.

  166. Hey Dan,
What about Aquarobics? They have it in Tampines. I’ve done a course of it before and it gives a hard workout without the high impact.I was actually on the point of joining again but had to go for this surgery.
It’s highly recommended for silver hairs especially for leg pains, back pains, heel pains etc. The bouyancy of the water helps absorb the impact.
In fact my doc recommended that I “walked” in the pool 3 times a week to speed up my recovery, after which I should graduate to aquarobics again.
Better than pounding your heels to death playing badminton.

  167. Last Sunday we have a courtesy call from Philip Lee and wife Angeline’

Philip was a former council member with Safra. He is a qualified umpire. Philip suggested that we may even try to hold a tournament in conjunction with our Annual Games Day.

Welcome to the club, Philip and Angeline!

  168. Aiyaya! Dan,

Just gotten free myself from this month onwards as a regular for your badminton sessions as far as Toa Payoh. Now, you wanna shelve it and look out for new posting on another form of exercise!

Next moment, you changed the badminton venue to SPE Sports Hall.. Alamak, Susah lah!

  169. What many dont know is, SPE has a queen size bed (identical to the one on board A380 that got our friend ah loong son thrilled) for Special Physical Exercise…..and into the rigours, it’s not more “alamak, susah lah” but “ala-masuk lah…………….aarrrrgggh”

  170. Hi Rene,

Changing the venue is not my choice. I did online booking but could not get it.

SPE at Evan Road is between Steven Road and Farrer Road. You could catch a bus from Newton MRT.

As explain in #219 I have my difficulties.I will continue as long as I see good responses.

In order to hold this post, I would require all keen player to pay a monthly fee of $15.00 which includes cost of shuttlecork.

Those in favor please let me know. An account book will be open. I would need an assistance to come forward to handle it.

  171. Hi Dan,

The lack of particpants lately could be the timing. 9.00 am on sunday may be too early for some.

I also agree with you that booking of badminton courts can be a headache. Community Centres do not provide good courts if you want to play seriously. You can get injured at CC court because it is used for event on Saturday night where food are spilled and the courts become slippery with oil.

Maybe if you need help, I can try to book at CSC club at Tessensohn Road on Sunday.

CSC allows 8 days advance booking, so you have to call me on 27 Oct 07 before 7.00 pm to book for 4 Nov 07 court on-line.
CSC also limits booking to one court for 2 hours session only. Hence, it may be difficult if many do turn up suddenly.
Preferably six or eight persons would be an ideal number.

Alternatively, if too many appears, and want to take the challenge, then rock climbing at the club.

Or go bowling at CSC at $2.90 per game on Sunday too. CSC has just refurbished their bowling lanes and it is in perfect condition.

  172. Hi Dan,

Just when I began to get the hang out of it, badminton venue is relocated, relocated, and maybe … shelved? Aiya, I head gong gong.

I fully understand your dilemma/decision. It’s not right for you to “operate on a deficit”. You have already put in so much effort and time getting courts and organizing the sessions. Having to log on to the respective websites as early as 7:00am to make bookings and yet failed to get something to suit everyone of us can be very frustrating.

I want to thank you real much for all the past enjoyable games and good company. Meantime, I shall go catch up BEDminton (i.e. sleep in on Sunday mornings). Might have to look up Joy Chuang to play back alley/void deck BADminton.

Tim Liu and KK Loh – Gonna say sayonara for
    now…

  173. Dan, I am with you on the need to collect a monthly fee (and i am still holding $4 from you for the play 2 sundays ago).

I can see that most badminton players look youthful and juvenated, and so if this game can carry on with sufficient regulars, it wd be a pity to shelve it.

  174. Dan,
I suggest you advance collection from each player for their confirmation on next session before commit to book the number of courts. I only played once and paid on the spot after last Sunday session. I have no idea how much you have to pay for each online booking and how you derive the amount from each present participants who turned up on that session. This is no important to me BUT to YOU. Not only you burnt out at the badminton court but also your wallet.

It is fair that all players have to cover the cost of shuttlecork. I can do the book-keeping part.

Have you ever give a thought on those occasional show-up? What will be their cost of sharing?

    Rene

  175. Dan

Don’t get confused. Comment #233 is written by Rene NOT Venika as I forgotten to help her log-out.

Anw, this sentence should be read as “NOT important instead of no (missing alpha)”

    Rene

  176. Hello Joy,

I have heard of Tom cat, what’s a Timcat? Does it “meow”, “mao” or purrrrr??

Hey! aren’t you on your way to take care of the camel? I am coming in my sarong. Please make sure it’s ready to kneel for me to board?

  177. Timcat doesnt meow, mao or purrrrr. Too elementary so he has designated a Tomcat to do those.

Timcat licks those wearing sarongs. Agree, so please make sure they’re ready to kneel on any board.

  178. Hi KK Loh, Tim, Gingko and Rene,

Thanks for coming foward and airing you views.
Actually booking of courts is not an issue.

My first choice of booking is Safra because the charge per hour is $4.00 excluding GST. Second is Singapore Sport Council which $7.40 per hour. Third is Community Centre under PA. Charges per hour is about $5 for Passion Card member for which I am one.

KK LOH mentioned CSC as another choice of venue.
Rene, thanks for offering to take care of the Account.

Okay, this Sunday when we meet, shall we adjourned for coffee to discuss the fate of badminton.I need volunteers to come forward to form a committee.

We will start collecting the monthly fee of $15.
Hope it is enough to cover the cost.

  179. Hi Dan,

I am not able to join you this sunday due to a slight knee problem, Getting old too.

Whatever, I am prepare to join you on on a permanent basis. Count me in.

  180. Hi KK Loh, thanks for your support. Hope you get well soon.

Last Sunday we have Dan, Rene, John Seah, Betty Lim, Catherine, Michelle, Albert and Maggie.

Eight players for three hours of play. Rene who have joined us is into her second session with us is a seasoned player.

We have decided to charge $5 for each player against the idea of $15 per month.

Rene has volunteered to take care of the accounting. Our planned meeting after play will be decided on the next session when more players turn up.

Recently, I put up the notion to shelve badminton for a good reason. Some of the players like Dan, Tim, John Seah, Ronald Wie and KK Loh have experienced some forms of niggling pains in the knees and excruciating cramps ind the legs.

Dan have on three occasion suffered cramps in the legs after each game. Badmintion is quite a strenous game.

Though it is hard to admit that age is catching up, I feels that those affected in one form or another should not allow the injuries to be aggravated.

So, to those of you who are wondering why I am giving up, do try to understand. I will be happy if someone would come forward to take over the responsibility.

Now you know why I am going for a milder form of exercise like gym workout and swimming.

  181. Today we got a pretty good turnout. Twelve players, almost the perfect numbers for three hours of play.

Newcomer, Roland is a retired tennis coach but still playing very good game. So is Philip Lee, a seasoned player who contributed a tube of shuttercocks.

Look like badminton is here to stay considering the attendance today. Just hope the these players will remain faithful to this place and timing. Of course if there is more central venue we shall book them.

Today, we have a casualty in Lina Ng. She suffered severe cramps to both calves. Was sidelined and unable to walk on her own.

Fortunately Tim was around to help drive her car back to her home. Dan took over and take her to see a Chinese sinseh in Thomson Road.

The sinseh prescribe acupuncture on her on a couch. Dan also subscribe to the same treatmment on the next table which took more than an hour.

After treatment Lina still felt the pain and unable to walk. Poor Dan have to despatch her home.

I must say that the acupuncture really help. Dan has on three consecutive Sunday suffered severe cramps to the legs and toes immediately after the game of badminton. It was so agonising and it last for almost two hours each time. On one occasion it happened when I was driving home.

After treatment today, I totally did not experience any cramps at all. I felt that the fee of $35.00 was really worth it.

  182. Oh no!
    Another one bites the dust.

Another casualty and this time is quite serious. She can’t walk.

    A word of advice:-

As for muscle leg cramps, take more salt in your diet to replenish the salt lost from sweating or drink more
isotonic drinks like Pocari sweat etc…

Sudden loss of sodium ions could result in muscle cramps and aches.

Another cause could be lack of warming up.

  183. Hi Lisa & Dan,

I am sorry to hear about your cramps, Lisa. I know it is excruciatingly painful. Perhaps, I could give my 2-cents worth of advice.

Firstly, do some warming-up exercises before playing.

Secondly, if you perspire a lot, drink a lot of water.

Thirdly, if you have cramps or feel that they are coming, quickly drink some salt water. Eno or any isotonic drinks will do.

Fourthly, and this may not be easy because it requires some skills, learn to relax your muscles while playing. Cramps very often are caused by tenseness of the muscles.

I hope my advice helps a bit.

    Regards,

    Robert

  184. Hi Dan, Tim, Robert Quek,

Tim, Thank you for your time and effort. It was so kind of you to drive my car back. Hope you make lots on your bets.

Dan, Must you describe in such detail. Now the whole world knows. But thank you very much all the same.

    Robert, Thanks for your advise.

  185. Hi Lina Ng,

….(…Dan, Must you describe in such detail. Now the whole world knows.)

It shows that Dan cares and shows concern for your welfare in our SHC community.

And hope u have a SPEEDY recovery. The other time was Mary Chan, another casualty from excessive dancing??? and tore her leg muscles and has to operate.

    Lagi SERIOUS and TERUK lah!

And the above 2 tragic events is a reminder that SHCians ,ENJOY and have FUN as much as we can but at the same time take SAFETY precautions such as warming up etc…to reduce unfortunate accidents.

  186. 2 factual errors – 1st, there were 14 (not 12) players; 2nd, the session was over 2 (not 3) hours (2-4 p.m.) with 2 courts for the last hour.

In accountancy terms, what tim did was “nm” compared with Dan’s doting on L. I have seen it b4 and again yesterday. Yes, Dan is a very attentive & caring man.

“The sinseh prescribe acupuncture on her on a couch. Dan also subscribe to the same treatmment on the next table which took more than an hour”.

Clearly, the sinseh discharged his professional duties correctly with Lina but was a horrible misfit when he came to you.

You know what? Only the dead is placed on a table like butchers do with animal carcasses.

So it was absolutely unforgiving that he put you on a table for more than an hour……….shall I round up my 7 hup and 5 yee (7 gallants, 5 sworn bros, canto)and go there to tak goon (kick the shop, canto) for you?

(Already I can see DennisW rolling up his sleeves, grinding his teeth and all ready to do big big mischief……….)

  187. Hi Steven/Robert,

Thanks again for your timely sharings and advice.

Tim, you are ever ready to capitalise on any loopholes in the comment.

The factual errors are intentional. First, Roland brought along two young players who also paid up. Betty, Patsy turned up her son Bryan and Joel, Vivien turned up with her son Lionel.

Because of the large turnout, they graciously went home so the our members have enough play.

Tim, you look at it as only two hours. I look at it at three hours based on the number of players playing on the two courts at the same time. Do you see the point?

  188. Dan, I counted what looked like silverhairs – all in, 14, using up all my fingers and 4 of my toes, which I marked with a dot to keep count.

I didnt know there were children.

Anyhow, I kept myself busy making capital out of a little boy’s basketball when the bedminton courts were filled…..so that must be capitalising ? Well, that boy’s dad made short work of me tho.

All said, it was very nice of you to go longer than the distance to help a fellow mate in pain.

  189. Hi Steven Chan, Tim, Dan,

Thanks for your concern eventhough I have not met you.

Tim, your driving was perfect. Couldn’t tell that you don’t have a driver’s licence.

Tim and Dan, table or couch doesn’t matter. You are both great guys.

  190. Hi Dan and all badminton kakis,

Sorry, i won’t be able to join you guys and gals on this and next sunday.

I have a 9 pins bowling competition on Sunday.

    Bye.

  191. Hi KK LOh, noted, good luck on your bowling competition.

Hope you could the bowling session. Benson Kok may be pretty occupied at the moment.

I am sure there are many bowlers out there waiting for you KK or Benson to get it moving.

I love bowling too, but not now as I am pretty tied up.

  192. Last Sunday we have 9 players for 4 hours of play.

John Seah partnered with Eunice Koh with Ronald Lee and Molly Tan played continuous double games. On the next court, Albert and Maggie also has exciting game with Molly and John.

Ronald with Dan and Tim with Cat really stretched themselves because of the shortage of players.

  193. Glad to hear that there is 9 players on Sunday.

If there is sufficient interest in bowling, I can arrange for some sessions on Saturdays evening say after 7.00 pm at CSC club at Tessensohn Road. But I may not be able to do it on every Saturday.

Fortnightly may be OK. Each game cost $2.90 currently as I am a member.

  194. Well, Dan is as cute as his outside-the-womb twin brother Terence…….both are incorrigibly strong & adamant with what they see as “is”. So I’ll let rest what is a 4 court-hour as 4 hours.

Beware of Ronald Lee in badminton. He lazes and sleeps most of the time but when he’s awake (and you can tell when he puts on that white rambo headband) he can smash the daylight out of anyone…chen hong, taufik, lindan, rambutan………..

I was the saddest of the lot. From leading 13-2 and 10-0, Maggie & I lost to the patient & tricky pair of Molly & Albert. And with that sickening pop sound coming from my heel again, I’ll be sidelined for a week or longer.

  195. Last Sunday,

Ronald Wie, John Seah, Albert and Maggie, Dan, Tim and Betty fought it out for two hours at Jalan Besar CC.

Two hours of solid play among seven players was just sufficient for a proper burnout.

This coming Sunday we have two different venues at different timing to cater to the whims of our players

    CSC Tessensohn Club from 11.00am – 1.00pm
Cairnhill CC from 8.00pm – 10.00pm for those nightbirds. Thereafter, it bed-time after bedminton!

  196. Some communication breakdown between Dan and I.

Dan called me on Monday afternoon to get badminton court for this sunday as he couldn’t get one.

I was late home and managed to book the court at CSC at 9.30 pm but Dan also got a court later at Cairnhill CC. Hence, we are now offering you guys and gals 2 choices.

See ya at CSC as I can’t join you guys at Cairnhill in the evening.

  197. Hi Dan,

Have booked court 3 at CSC (as prefer by most players) on 2 dec 07 (sunday) from 11.00 am till 1.00 pm.

CSC limits my booking to one session only per day

Will see if I can get another hour at 10.00 am tomorrow.

  198. Thanks to KK Loh who help to book courts at CSC Tessensohn for last sunday and the following Sunday. Most of us seem to like the new venue.

Nine players for two solid hours of solid play was not sufficient. There being request for a third hour!

First time we have two sessions on the same day.
John Seah and Eunice and Albert and Maggie thoroughly sweat it out. KK loh with Rene and Ronald Wie and Betty Lim also stretch themselves with Dan taking turn to sweat it out.

Second session at Cairnhill CC was a poor turnout. Only Lily Ho and Catherine Yeo came. Poor Dan has the daunting task of taking on the two beauties.

Dan was made to hop round the court picking poppy and gleefully accept the challenge for two solid hours! Thereafter, it aphrodisiac for supper at Newton Circus hawker centre. The rest is up to your imagination!

Blessed are the peacemaker, for they shall inherit the earth!

  199. Hi all those interested badminton kakis,

After 13.00 hrs all 4 courts are empty.

Hence, we may be able to play at all 4 courts for another half hour or so if nobody chases us away.

The scenario that occur last sunday is unlikely because by 14.00 hrs some courts are taken.

  200. Last Sunday we have only two players who came to play. Dan and John Seah played until the two hours was up.

Since the responses are poor I may have to stop booking the courts.

Look out for Gym n Swim!

  201. Hahahaha, MaryC, are you for real !?

At our age, you still wanna do gymnastics……..balancing on the parallel bar??

Ok, jokes aside, if you do the floor exercise, die die I’ll join you………

  202. Tim, I’m sure Dan’s’gym’ doesn’t refer to gymnastics. We go to the gym to exercise you know? The machines, the weights, even the floor mats for floor exercises. Some gyms even have pilates and gym-ball exercises routines, but I guess gym to you is ogling at all the women again and probably strutting around showing off the bit of biceps you have, hahaha.

  203. Dear Dan

Playing badminton on Sunday morning is a ‘luxury’, not what average people are able to do. Most are preoccupied on Sunday mornings for marketing, church going, family brunch, catching up on sleep and household chores.

Ever consider choosing a different time slot instead of cancelling it altogether?

  204. Hi Lily,

Will consider your suggestion carefully. Since joining SHC I have been fully occupied. Not that I am complaining!

Monday and Wednesday dance classes will end in two week time. Alternative days are either Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Saturday is a no no to most of us.

I shall have it on a Thurday if most of the players are in favour.

Gym and Swim is supposed to replace badminton session. If badminton stay, I will have a hard time coping with Gym n Swim.

Forming a chess cafe and bowling are my other interest, but being self-employed I have no such luxury of time to indulge in.

  205. Hi Dan,

Actually Sunday is fine with me but 9am is a bit too early lah.. that’s why didn’t join you last sunday. 11am-1pm would be fine but i’m not sure abt the rest.
Appreciated your effort, hope u keep it going.

    mollie

  206. Hi Dan,

I agree with Lily #274 that early Sunday mornings are usually “for marketing, church going, family brunch, catching up on sleep and household chores”.
This could explain the particularly poor participation at last Sunday’s session of 9 to 11am. The sessions that were held later on previous Sundays enjoyed fairly good turnouts.
I prefer Sundays since I probably would not knock off from office in time weekdays for the evening sessions. Mollie #276’s suggested time slot is OK for me; I will go along with the majority’s view.

I daresay on behalf of the regulars and not-so regulars that we really very much appreciate your initiative and hard work in booking the courts. A Big Thank You, and I respect your decision if you wish to stop badminton.

    Happy Lunar New Year.

  207. MaryC, you never failed to put me in a wonderment with yr replies; not least, #273.

Haha, alright the gym isnt the place for gymnastics so you do it in the streets?

Reminds me of those who bring their monkeys around, settle at a street corner, beat their pans & gongs, get a crowd and then join their monkeys in their gymnastics routine, sommersaulting, rolling, walking on hands…….

Heeeee, can die laughing to see you doing street gymnastics………

Seriously, I am out cos my heel pain doesnt seem to get better (wd hv loved also to join Rol at tennis) so will support you in chess, bowling and any activity less vigorous.

  208. Heeeee, it only means you’ll hv to work harder on sarcasm lor……….hold my hands & I’ll teach you how. Hold me tight and I’ll give you all…………………that I hv learned, keeping nothing.

  209. Thanks Dan for giving us another session to sweat it out….and out I am, probably for a week longer; presently undergoing KT’s recommended infra-red treatment of my heels……..and the results are showing, my feet are red like the monkey’s butt……

  210. Dear Dan

Thank you for organising another badminton session despite poor response.

Much as I wanted to participate, all Sunday mornings are out for me. Greatly appreciate your effort in trying to keep it going.

Will respect your decision to scrap this activity as you deem fit.

    Thks & Rgds / Lily

  211. Dear Lily,

The baminton session is still alive and kicking! We have 9 die-hards who turn up.

Next seesion coming Sunday at 7.00pm – 9.00pm. Hopefully it fit in to your schedule!

Besides the regular, Molly n Ronald do join us. Ronald, how your arm holding up?

  212. Last week session was from 7.00-9.00pm

Six players, Danz, Ronald Wie, KK Loh, Albert, Maggie n Lily Ho have sufficient play for two solid hours!

Coming Sunday, back at CSC Tessensohn from 11.00am – 3.00pm. Four hours of play!
Come one come all, get yourselves burn out!

  213. I’ll be there after 1pm. Ronald Wie, are you going to partner me again? You don’t run and I don’t run – we’ll just watch the shuttle cock drop ok?

  214. Play by the rules, please.

    The Rules of Indoor Badminton

    1) In order to score a player must land his cock in his opponents court.

    2) Players may only handle the cock before serving or after scoring.

    3) If a player does not get the cock into his opponents court for any reason then he does not score and cannot try again until he has service
    again.

    4) Rubbers are advised for safety as they are about 99% less likely to cause unforeseen damage.

And always remember if you serve too high the cock may get stuck in the lights.

  215. Hi Lily,

Anytime as long we are playing on the court and using shuttle corks. Btw in this game, you are encourage to play with different partners, as everyone plays differently with different strokes, speed, pace and some like to play different positions. (see KT Wong remarks on bad-minton).

Now me leg is better can run for what is mine, you have to learn to run what is meant for you or else you will miss most of the fun. I will start playing at 9am and probably run out of energy and fluid by 11 am so dont think i can last that long for you to come.

Jonathan welcome to our badminton club.

  216. Hi Jonathan, welcome to the badminton club! Still waiting for you to join in the dancing class.

Lily/Ronald/KT, finally we are seeing some fantasy in the art of bedmintion!

Funny thing is that playing of badmintion does relate to various focus in life! Thanks so much for the enlightenment! By the way, is it cock or cork?

  217. …. Additional rule when playing bedminton with Lily/Ron. Both mixed doubles take their position and not allowed to move. With exception of legs, partners can move any parts to hit the cock and keep on moving until the cock is down …

  218. You guys are FON…. but it did make me LOL ….. not as loud as Lina though. So Lina, joining us this Sunday?? …. for “Bad”minton??

  219. KT & Dan,

    Well what can I say…
One man’s cock is another man’s cork?

Actually both or you are right…
its a shuttlecock which is made of wooden cork….

    Hahaha apologies for the crudeness!

  220. Jon, Dan

No need to say you’re sorry.

It’s in the amazons’ minds. They see blue in everything. Probably been kept inside a convent for too long.

Not like us boys. Just trying to share some innocent and healthy tips on sports. And you get sniggers all over the place.

  221. Hi Catherine Ho,

We welcome you to join us in our badminton session. However, this coming Sunday there is no game. Most of the players will be driving up to Malaysia for holiday!

Badminton will resume following Sunday. Will keep you posted!

    Danz

  222. Dear Catherine Ho

There are those of us who are not driving up to M’sia will be playing this Sun, 18 May @ Kallang CC, Court 2 between 3.30 – 5.30pm. Feel free to join us.

  223. Dear Lily and Catherine,

Sad to say that almost all the usual players will be going to Malaysia. for water rafting or some other activities. Only you and me left.

Hence, it fruitless to continue this sunday.

Better to call it off and go shopping or join the crowd to Malaysia. Will see their response after Vesak Day.

  224. Dear KKLoh

It’s ok. Will await your announcement. If cancelled, no need to be sad lah. Consider it a well deserved break lor.

  225. Hi KK,

Hope many other new players will come forward to join you this coming Sunday, as you know about our trip and you are still welcome to join us. But we will be back to play next Sunday for sure, so please continue the bookings.

Helen and Mano and other players, maybe it is a good time for you to join them but state your intention fast before they cancelled this sunday’s game. If you need some introduction or contacts, email me and I will let KK know your contacts and where to meet him.

  226. Hi Ronald,

Have a good time, I can’t join you guys and gals as I am taking part in PS bowling league at Bukit Batok this weekend.

    Have a safe journey

  227. Hi! Dan & Lily,
Tks for the response. Will try my best to go Kallang CC this Sunday if I’m free.
How many of you are playing? How many courts?
    How much per session?
Tku v much. Pl sms to me.98415990.
    I’m slow to website ha…
    Catherine Ho

  228. Hi all,

It seems CSC club badminton courts are all closed for renovation again. Most CCs courts except those in Queenstown area are all fully taken.

So I have only Tampines Sport Stadium left.

There the next badminton games is at Court 2 on 22 June 08 (sunday) from 12.00noon to 2.00pm.

    See you guys there

  229. Dear KK

Will not be joining badminton as timing not suitable for me. Thanks for your hardwork in booking courts, etc. You guys enjoy.
