Mary Chan – Profile

Hello everybody,

I’m Mary, in my fifties. I’m a teacher, but am doing only short term teaching, so I have quite a bit of free time to do as I please. The problem is, I prefer to have friends to do things withemoticon. I enjoy travelling and used to do so with my two daughters, but it’s not convenient now as they have their own agenda although they do try to spend as much time as they can with me. I also enjoy dancing a little, especially social dancing, but there again, I need a partner. Anyone interested?emoticon

What do I teach? English and Phonics. English to primary and secondary school kids and phonics to little kiddies in a phonics centre.

Where have I travelled to? I’ve been to Australia, India, France, The Philippines, Japan, Thailand mostly on conducted tours, West Malaysia, Bali, Bintan, Batam on short relaxing trips but the place I have been to the most frequently is New Zealand. I started off on conducted tours, both North and South Islands and later, free and easy when I got to know the place better. I would love to visit China and Europe as well as some places in the US, especially Hawaii and to go on a cruise some day. Oh yes, I haven’t been on a real cruise yet!emoticon

I only learnt to swim and cycle in my forties and to dance (line dance) in my fifties. Talking about late bloomers, Up till then,I had been too busy taking care of the family, bringing up my girls and teaching and the free time I had was spent on sedate activities, like craftwork of which I have lots of evidence of , all in storage now.  Hopefully one day they will be appreciated, that is if they are still in good condition by then.

Well, I better keep this short or you might lose interest in my rambling. I hope to get some response. Then I can begin to make some new friends. Write soon,

Have a great day!emoticon

  1. Hi Mary
You sound interesting. I have two grown up children, a boy and a girl. Both are now in the US. In May this year attended my daughter graduation in Boston and then helped her move to San Diego with her brother who is a research fellow there. Both of them in US and that is how i have the time to meet up. As you said, we spent so much of our time bringing up the kids and now its time for socialising. Oh I wanted to join line dancing for long time but couldnt make it. I love dancing but has no chance to take it up and also no partner as you said so. Is it too late for above 50s to take up swimming lessons? I wanted to learn to but afraid of water.
I enjoyed travelling too. I have been to Europe, Most parts of US, Australia but only Shanghai in China. I have yet to go to Korea with my daughter when she comes home for holidays. If not maybe someday we can go together.

  2. Hi Mary,

Welcome to the SHC. I am sure you will find and also able to enjoy the many activities organized by the very active folks here. Most of all, you will find the opportunity to share life’s many experiences with this circle of keen and willing listeners.

Don’t worry too much about finding a dance partner, I am an equally new member too but was invited to just one of the many social gatherings, I have danced till “kaki sakit”! That’s how it is here!

    Welcome again and have fun!
    Cheers, Edwin Chen

  3. Hi Mary,

Welcome abroad. I am also quite a new member only attended 2 of SHC’s function, hope to join in more activities in time to come. Do join in whenever you can and have fun.

Oh, oh, I too love travelling and will be touring to Jiuzaigou in Sept. May have a chance to travel together. Just back from Cambodia last week.

    Have a great weekend. Cheers!!!

    Nora Chia

  4. Hello Mary, Welcome to the FUN club! I’m also new and have joined 2 recent outings. Like you i also learnt swimming and cycling in the forties. Due to busy schedules have not been able to swim and as for cycling I have a phobia due to a bad experience. However, I want to learn again and will be looking forward to the next cycling event. Do join us then! Cheers, Grace

  5. Hi Nora Chia,

Glad to know that you have just returned from Cambodia. How was the trip?

Sometime ago, I was in Phnom Penh to help start up a church. Gosh, then it was really a cowboy town! Mandalay wasn’t any better! I remembered those rickety one horse taxis for travel to the outskirts.

I am sure you have visited the Wats? Awesome right?

Have a nice day, Edwin Chen

  6. Mary,

So by the grace of Grace, you have finally put up yr profile? For yr perseverance we must all give you a very warm hug. Haha, again Edwin is first to act & win.

SHC is never short of good dance partners so if you want it crazy & fast, Terence is there for you but if you prefer smthg slower, Dennis Wee awaits in his deep bow.

    Whoever, whatever, wherever enjoy !

  9. Hi again Jane,

Yes I am the same. Smiley faces? You simply click on the smiley face at the toolbar above and you get a selection of them.

    Enjoy.

    Mary

  10. Hi Daniel,

Pleased to receive your email. I’m new here. I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it for the Sunday Brunch.

Thanks and have a great day,

    Mary

  11. Hi Nora,

Pleased to “meet” you. I hope to really meet you soon . You sound like a worldly traveller. I’m planning on travelling to Hanoi in Dec, but it’s only tentative.

Have you been to China many times? I haven’t even been there once! I’ve been to several other countries like NZ, Oz, India and Japan, but somehow, China has always been passed over for another venue. Perhaps you could tell me more about your travels.

I have to work this weekend, so not much fun for me, but you have a fun weekend yourself,

    Hear from you again,

  12. Hi Grace,

Thank you for your welcome. It’s great to receive so many welcoming emails! I must confess I haven’t swum nor cycled for quite a few years, but with company, I might get back to them again.

    You have a great weekend,

    Mary

  13. Hi Anthony,

    Thanks for the welcome.

I may have learnt some social dance but rest assured I have forgotten most of them from lack of practice. I haven’t had much opportunity to really dance other than in the class so I will be as much a newby as you.

    You have a great day,

    Mary

  14. Good morning everybody!

Well, I thought I was going to have a boring morning. It’s quite exciting to see so many emails in my otherwise empty mailbox! I’m having quite a bit of fun already. Thank you for writing and please keep it up. It makes my day brighter!
    Thanks again!
    Mary

  15. Hi Nora Chia,

Mid to late Oct. is the BEST time to travel to Zhujiagou .

That is the time when the Maple leaves of the forest are gradually changing its colours as it passes from Autumn to Winter.

Btw, I too will be going to Zhujiagou on 25 to 3 Nov ( 10 days tour with SA Group Tours).Heard it is one of UNESCO Heritage and will be preserved.

Waiting ANXIOUSLY to hug the PANDA bear at Cheng Du and to see the
instant FACES Changing Mask Opera Show.

See you at our next SHC function.
    Steven Chan

  16. Hi Mary

  17. Hi Christina,
Thank you for your warm welcome. Yes I am also a Chan. I’m Hokkien and the Mandarin translation is “Tien”, which means ‘padi field’.Yes, I am trying to live my life again and I hope with all of you, I can find fun again in my life.
    Mary

  18. Hi Mary and Anthony, one of the many items I really like to fulfil is social dancing. I have no basics. If you guys are starting one or know of a happening source, please keep me in the loop … by then I think I would need a partner too … huh any other new learner?

Mary now you see how fun it is – it’s all happening in writing wait till you join in the real fun – you’ll love it as Yew Kwong says it rite “yr stay with us is definitely fun and enjoyable”. Cheers :) Grace

  19. Hey Grace and Anthony,
if there are enough participants, we could even start our own group lessons!
Yes Grace, I’m beginning to feel the excitement.
    Cheers to you too,
    Mary

  20. Hi Mary.

welcome to SHC. I enjoyed reading your profile. Its really nice to write and let us know more about you. It is not lengthy. In fact, too many profiles were just too short and brief.

Its never too late to learn anything. I am in my fifties too and have just started roller blading lessons. I am enjoying it, despite the bumps and aches.

Hope to meet you in upcoming activites.

Btw Christina, in Hainanese we say “Soo Kee” or if in the same clan or “Ka Ki Nang” :D

    Warmest regards!

  21. Hi Caroline,
It’s great to be welcomed soooo many times in a day! Thank you.
Roller blading??? Aiyah, not for me lah. I don’t want to break my bones! Something less taxing on my joints perhaps, haha.
    Keep writing,
    Mary

  22. Hi Mary,
Welcome aboard, I too would like to learn social dance but haven’t pluck the courage to attend any of the classes.

Time permit and if the response is good we can have regular swimming and coaching session.

Btw Caroline, in Hainanese we say ‘Hor bo, ah my’I also a Singapore dutchman.

  23. Hi Tim,
Thanks for the welcom too. You sound like a man with a good sense of humour. :-)
I will keep what you said in mind. ;-P and am looking forward to the fun!
    Mary

  24. Hi Dan, thanks. Wow, if I had known there were so many guys interested in dancing lesson, I would have come here earlier! Except for the fact that I hadn’t known this place existed.
Hm, swimming lessons eh? Might consider that although I dislike the cold water, brrr. and…. getting my nice curls wet, hehe.

Anyway, putting vanity aside, I might consider that too. Thanks again,
    Mary

  25. Hi again people.
Anyone of you living in the east, Pasir Ris, Tampines, Simei etc? I have just moved to Pasir Ris and have yet to make a single friend apart from my few old friends, who still either work or have to take care of their families. It would be nice to have morning tea or even breakfast sometimes with someone in the neighbourhood.

    Mary

  26. Dear Mary,

Interestingly, I worked in the east, very close to Pasir Ris. Can’t have breakfast but if you like a lunch partner I will be glad to join you!
    Grace

  27. Hi Grace,
Yes, lunch might be good too. It will depend on my work schedule as I sometimes have classes that stretch over the lunch break, leaving me with only a half hour although this is not too often. Perhaps we could email our mobile numbers to each other and take it from there?

    Mary

  28. Hi Tim,

I wasn’t trying to beat you at saying hello, it’s just that I am always wide awake at 5.00am!! So, here in Singapore, after the usual “kay poh” vigilante walk around the neighbourhood and my pilgrimage to the “kopi tiam” for the morning dose of legal drugs, where else can one “ah lau” go after slurping up the two eggs and “kaya roti”?

Laughter the best medicine! Be happy!

    Edwin Chen

  29. Hello Mary,
So you see…, SHCs are very friendly indeed. All come aboard for one main purpose .. to make friends… you have so many here and this is one more… we all look forward to knowing you. Hope you are able to participate in many of our activities.
    charles

  30. Hey Charles, nice to know you. Thanks I will try to but I am very much an indoors person although I’m not against outdoors activities if I have ample sunblock and shade, hehe. Vain lah.
Looking forward to meeting everyone here,
    Mary

  31. Hi Mary,
There are indeed a number of silverhairs members staying in the east.eg.. myself, gingko, linda, annie, nora, julie, mary and many others.. do participate in our SHC monthly gatherings and activities..and you will bound to meet some of them one day …and your friendship will bloom from there !!
    Rgds..

  32. What about you Tim? No profile?
Perhaps it’s because I respond when people write to me? Perhaps KK and Dick are busy at work right now and can’t respond? Not like the two of us, “boh dai ji cho”.
Anyway, that’s not so correct. I have to get ready for work soon, but I must say, I have enjoyed my first day at Silverhairs. Hope it’ll be as much fun or better tomorrow.

  33. My profile is that of chucky. If folks know him know me but if dont know him, better not know. So why put up?

At work, I believe in efficiency.

Fact of the matter is, I had just completed vetting an assignment of a chattel valued at nt less than USD5mio, after perusing document aggregating 103 pages.

Smart Terence doesnt like tim when he’s sombre & serious……..he likes tim when he’s anythg but sober and nothing but imperious…….kl, that is.

  34. Hi Mary Chan, welcome. Me June Chan, a teochew. Teochew are known to be fair and pretty. Me neither :-))) But in SHC I am known as June Lim.
Wanna get to know some of us better? Come join us 2-4 Nov, Colmar/KL. :-))

  35. that’s twice kl was mentioned. Once by Tim and another by June. Hm, I wonder what Tim meant, ;-P, definitely not Kuala Lumpur.

And who the heck is “Chuck”? Chuck Norris? Chuck E Cheese? One of the chipmunks? Oh come on Tim. At least tell us your age. You could be a 16 year old faking an old man, haha. Why so shy? We are all oldies here.

  36. Who is Jie Lim Hong? I received an email that had no content, totally blank. Perhaps something happened to delete it? Can you please write again?

  37. Well, looks like all the “old folks” are already fast asleep in bed or out painting the town red. It’s only 1035pm but I think I will turn in too. Have a busy schedule at work tomorrow. Good night everybody. See ya tomorrow.

  38. Tim,

I think it’s about time, you take the mystery out of your body. Tell us a bit about yourself, under Tim Liu – Profile.

Who are you? On this forum, you are a gambler, a soccer fan and a teaser. Write a Post yourself, and so that other SilverHairs can engage you on your own topic or self. You have two personalities, the kind one and the not-so kind one.

Dont just write about others, write about yourself too. Are you ready?

    Terence Seah

  39. Hi Tim Liu,

It is time that you should come out from the closet as hinted by Terence and write more of your own profile than to write about others.

You are as MYSTERIOUS as the “Phantom of the Opera” and yet as MISCHIEVIOUS as Chucky, the Rag Doll.

Or are you a guy with a
“SPLIT” personality, the kind and serious or the UNkind and Vindictive trampling down everyone’s
    comments with no apparent reason.

Or just a Devil in Disguise ?

Regards and have a good weekend ahead,
    Steven Chan

  40. Gd evening people, if you are still awake. Apologies for not contributing. I just got back from the airport after a full day of teaching, to meet someone. Very tired but I have another 2 more days of heavy teaching, then, I’m free… hopefully.
My teaching stints are not regular, but when they come, they come altogether.
Yes, I do agree that everyone should put up a profile if he or she is serious about making friends. Then at least we can know something about the person we are talking to.

  41. Mary, sorie for not reading yr post earlier as usually I shut myself out of computer access on wkends by choice.

My “kl” means kwai-lang or a very kwai person so it’s very different from the Kuala Lumpur mentioned by June (btw, she’s pretty & fair, inside & outside but am forbidden to tell how I know both.

“Chucky” is the doll on which a curse was cast by a vengeful fakir b4 his death in the hands of a cop. It is harmless at inertia but when in a rousing mood, it goes around chewing up anythg, not least Terence’s nose (which explains why it’s shifted to almost the left ear after a botched replacement surgery).

Yes, Terence has very accurately summarised the depiction of tim as he is apparent in this forum. In fact, T very kindly posted “Who tim is?” but honestly, why care who tim is when some folks actually thot they know more abt him behind his back?

SHC belongs to all silverhairs and if the majority find good fun and interesting company in here, we hv succeeded & met our objective.

And when that happens, there’s need to remember only one name………..Seah Kim Seng.

(Btw, I hv made myself very clear that I wont engage with that fool and I hvnt changed my mind yet).

  42. Hi Tim,
I will accept your explanation of “kl” with a pinch of salt. Thanks, haha.
So you become somewhat of a “pacman” sometimes huh? Well, I better not rub you up the wrong way or I might get “chewed up”.
Anyway, I find your comments rather entertaining, so just be yourself.

  43. Um, Tim, what is #232 #249 ? I’m a little duh.
Make up your own rules? In a competition? However friendly, it might lead to diagreement etc. I think I better stick to observation than participation then. Being a teacher, I am a little bit of a stickler when it comes to rules, hehe.

  44. Hahaha, you carry the Games Day discussion into yr profile and thus cant find postings numbered 232 & 249.

Gently reverse yr car, make a 3-point turn and when you reach the Games day thread, it’s all there lah.

At our age, we play to enjoy (shd see how we played badminton yesterday……after I served the shuttlecock, I sat down, closed my eyes and relaxed……..and me & my team actually won).

Anyhow, the rules are there and simple to follow esp given abt 2 months ahead of competition.

  45. It was with disbelief that I read some of the comments and joking remarks made about the rites and rituals of the 7th month etc.I thoughtI was born a Taoist, brought up in a Roman Catholic school, but am neither a practicing Taoist nor a Catholic. I believe every religion has its good and not so good, but to each his own, as they say.

  46. Clicked on the wrong key and submitted before I finished. So….
    Cont’d
I thought RELIGION WAS ONE OF THE SUBJECTS THAT WAS TABOO? So, please be more considerate with your comments. People’s feelings can be hurt by them.

  47. Can somebody help me with directions from Pasir Ris Drive 1 to block 631 Hougang Ave 8? I would like to join in the crowd, but don’t know how to get there. I have a lunch engagement and might not make it by 2.30pm. How long will you all be there until?

  48. Hi Mary
I seldom come in this website but since I am here I read your profile with interest as we share many common interest. First I am also a teacher and I love to travel like you. I havent been to China and Europe and would love to go with friends…
When my kids were younger, I was like you i.e. home-bound and did cross-stitch & knitting whenever I could especially during the holidays.
So now my kids are bigger, I have slightly more time…. and currently my passion is dancing… so if you like, you can join me as it is more fun attending classes with friends than going alone(which I do sometimes as I can’t wait for someone to join me or I will miss all the fun!!!)
Keep in touch and we see how things go…
    Sincerely,
    Laura

  49. Hi, good morning Laura,
Thank you. Yes, we do seem to have some common interests. :-) Are you still teaching or retired?
Which part of Singapore are you in? I’m in Pasir Ris.
Dan Huang is organising a Salsacise in Bukit Merah. Perhaps you might be interested in it.
    Regards.

  50. Good morning Jie, Janet and Annie.

It’s almost 11am and a beautiful morning. Everybody must still be sound asleep.

I had a lovely time yesterday evening. The company was great. The music too. Think you all had a good time too :-)

It’s good to be doing this again after months of apartment hunting and moving and packing and unpacking.

I’m looking forward to more fun activities like this. Perhaps Scrabble, Mahjong or another evening out?

You all have a relaxing Sunday!
    :-)

  51. Good afternoon Mary, Janet & Annie,
It was a most enjoyable and beautiful evening. We certainly will do it again as we have discussed. Any of the activities or all will be great. Let’s get it together.

  52. Hi my dear buddies, it’s midnite now.I truly enjoyed myself very much. Thanks for a beautiful time and yourselves. Please do it again.Want to play scrabble/mahjong my place?Anytime you say.I 24/7 free.Morning, I go fitness and free in the afternoon.

    Janet

  53. Good morning Janetriverina. Still up at midnight?
Another rainy day? Why don’t you arrange and let us know? At the moment, this Wed and Fri are still free.
Forgot to ask you the other day. I’m still looking for a hairdresser around here. Any to recommend?

  54. Hi Mary, just back from suntec. Can I meet you, Jie and Annie 11am at whitesands mrt customer service? We can have lunch at the kopitiam and spend the rest of the day at my place. Can I have Jie’s contact no.?There is no cg at my place this Fri.Thinking of an evening out with you ladies. What say you? There’s Jean Yip Hairdressing salon at whitesands mall. Can give a try.Plus a few others too.I do not have any preference as long as it’s not too expensive. My hubby very happy for me – that I can still find good friends at my age. Now, this really calls for a celebration!Hope Jie, Annie and Laura? respond to my invitation.Janet.

  55. Hey Janet Heng. I’m so confused. You are one and the same as Janetriverina right?
Meeting at Whitesands mrt customer service? Are we suppose to meet today???
I think you should ask Jie herself for her number. I don’t think I should be giving you her number, not that I think she’ll mind, but better to ask her yourself, ya?
    Thanks for the recommendation.
Good that your hubby is “very happy” for you. ;-P.
Think I will give you a call to clarify this Whitesands thingy. I have a class tonight.

  56. Thanks, Mary dear.I forgot to type Wednesday morning 11am.Too excited…. Hope they read and reply. If not, will call them and get back to you. Thanks again.Janet.

  57. Hi Mary

Where you staying and where you learning your line dancing. Me in the West? Join me to dance every sat evening? I dance all over the island?
Well I singled and like to go for short trip and hope I can join u.

  58. Hi Michelle, I’m in Pasir Ris. I used to line dance. Not anymore.
Are you joining in Dan Huang’s salsacise? I am.
We could get together one day and see if we can come up with some short trip. Jane is in the west like you. Perhaps we could arrange to have tea or lunch or even dinner one day?

  59. Terence

Just a personal point of view.

I’m sure you have noticed those elderly people who sit at void decks or coffee shops, with vacant stares, apparently with nothing on their minds but the prospect of their death.
Then there are those who are at the same places, keeping their minds off what is inevitable by playing checkers, chess etc.or just enjoying the company of others.

It is nice to come across new posts and comments with an upbeat nature on SHC. I think it would be good if this is maintained or SHC might spiral into “gloomidom” very soon.

  60. Hi Mary,

I am supportive of almost anything for SilverHairsClub members. Members are free to share their interests with others. Members are free to organise your own activities, and form their own groups. The club taboos will continue to be followed. We try to keep the organisation of this forum simple. Membership is easy.

But I am not too sure what you mean. Can you elaborate? Do let me know if you think the rules are too strict or inflexible.

    Terence Seah

  61. Hi Margaret Tune,
Haven’t seen you much online. Some of us are getting together sometime end of the week. Hope you can join us. Drop me a line at my email address ok?
    Mary

  62. Terence, just to wish you an enjoyable holiday in Europe. I envy you really, you should record all your adventures and make your own “Travel and Adventure” series.
    Have a great time!

  63. Hi Victor Gomez,
People go to dance classes to learn to dance. Most do not know how to dance, so you are no different. So why not come join in and learn a few steps. You will have lots of fun and laughter, I can assure you.
Even if you end up not learning a thing, you will have made more than 10 friends, just chatting with them.
So come and try it. :-)

  64. Hi Mary,

Your interesting comment should be reflected in Victor’s posting.

Otherwise, am not certain Victor will have the chance to read it here.

You may try cut and paste.

  65. Wow, Yoohoo!!
Where’s everybody this morning? This is the first time that I find no comments at this hour.

I enjoy reading and am interested in exchanging recommendations of books and the books themselves too if possible, although I get mine mainly from the library. Anyone keen?

At the moment, I’m reading a book that was highly recommended, entitled, “A Round-heeled Woman” by Jane Jushka.

It’s “A moving meditation on the libido of the pre-baby boomer, post-menopause generation….rest assured that it is also raunchy” Daily Telegraph

    Anyone read this book yet?

  66. There is another book I am in the middle of, “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell.

It’s a book about..”how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant- in the blink of an eye- that actually aren’t as simple as they seem…”

It’s about the art of “thin-slicing”.

    Anyone read this one?

  67. Oh well, looks like everybody is MIA. Hope there are some who are interested. Going to get some things done now and going out for lunch at the Mandarin. Byeee.

  68. Hi Mary

Glad U like reading. Me 2 but tat was long time ago. Books written by Jeffrey Archer n John Grisham r my favourites but oso do read other bks in between.

  72. Joy @ #90

  74. Re: video cassettes

Hi anyone here knows where I can get my video cassettes converted into vcds? Is there any way I can remove fungus on the tapes?

Would appreciate some recommendations and/or help as I have quite a lot of video tapes of my children growing up.

    Thanks

  75. Hi Mary Chan at 93 ,

Go to JB Holiday Plaza shopping centre.
They are a few stores dealing with
( video tapes to VCDS. ) and at 1/2 Spore price.

Ask the info counter if in doubt where the stores are located.

  76. Steven,
Thanks for the info but JB? I don’t know if I can trust them with my precious tapes. Once lost they can’t be replaced. Do you know these people?
    Appreciate your response.

  77. SOS. SOS.
Hi all who were at the D n D. I left my silver shawl behind at the Pines. I had it in one of the reusable bags and forgot to take it with me.
If anyone found it, please keep it for me.
    Thanks.

  78. I handed it to someone(1) who then thought it belonged to someone(2) so handed it to another someone(3) to hand to that someone(2).

Now I am trying to contact someone(3) but have yet to get her contact no.
Confusing eh? with someone(1, 2 and 3) Ha ha ha – something to crack your brains on a hangover morning.

Wait for my good news ok. Anyway, thought it is more goldy than silvery. Mmm.. who is right??

BTW, hope you had a good time and did you enjoy our linedance performance?

  79. Then someone will find many bodies and tell the somebody for one body to appear with some bodies in a disposable or re-usable body (bag).

    Cheng and gang of many:

Yes, your team line-dancing was fabulous last evening! You can dance quite well and looked stunning too.

  80. ok Mary, settled but I can only get it this coming Friday when I meet up with her. Then we will see when is the next function that you and I can meet up.

Andrew, thanks for the compliment. Shall share it with my fellow dancers as it is team’s effort that made it happen.

  81. Oi Cheng,
thank god you found it. It belongs to my daughter and I was wondering how I was going to tell her today.
It was terribly careless of me.

Oh yes, I enjoyed watching your line dances. Very well executed. Compliments to all of you.

We all had a good time didn’t we?

Thank you again for such a great D n D and for recovering my shawl. :-)

  82. Mary @ #104

I heard of the subtlely dropped handkerchiefs before. The belle of the dance dropped the whole shawl in the midst of a packed floor and no one even picked it up, huh. That’s the problem with having too many old guys who’s passed their peak.

Who’s it meant for? I’ll scold him for you. Next time, send by registered mail with return address.

    Hee-hee.

  83. My dear KT

You had missed a lot on the discussion on age and 2nd D & D.

    1) All below 85 are mellow green so long one is vibrant, stay healthy and purposeful.

All the 30 plus men tasted sweet and juicy grapes last evening.

You missed the fresh and fragrant grapes, but I have keep one piece specially for you

2)When are you organizing the much talked durian expedition, in May or June, to taste the fruit of your covet skills in quality picking?

    3) China has the traditions: a bride will “deliberately drop” her fan when she is leaving her parents’ home on her wedding day so that she will return home three days after her blissful evening.

You are making one maiden blushing.

Would you spoil the subtle fun?

  84. A @ #106

    Whodunit ? …

Well, let’s examine the body of evidence. Nobody has ever known to drop fans and handkerchiefs before for old guards like us. Finger points to newbies. Round up the usual suspects. Yes, tu’ is in the main line-up.

    Hee-hee.

    1) Relax and accept aging gracefully. At 85, even I’ll have problem picking up a table cloth from the floor much less anything else. Thanks but I pass on GM’s (gentically modifieds).

    2) No problem. I pick the virgin fruits – first drops. Some body volunteers to be EO. I’ll do my bit to help in the organisation and negotiations with the state organs.

    3) In this age of distractions, we’ll have to do better than drop a hand-fan. Try dropping a air-con inverter cassette in the middle of the room. That’ll turn the heads if nothing else will.

Alas. The age of humour has come to pass. We can’t even find time to laugh at ourselves. How do we find time to change the world?

  85. Hello KT

When would you realise that durian expedition?

    May or June, OK ?

Within SHCians, we have a lot able bodies, strong and healthy natural organs to taste real fruits!

@@@ To taste all the virgin fresh fruit(s).

Please, please demonstrate your organisation prowess, let us taste real fruit, not paper.

    Not, ???? (zhi3 shang4 tan2 bing1) – To speak of soldiers on a piece of paper

    a) mere paper talk, b) strategy that cannot be practised.

  86. KTWong,
Aiyah, I forgot you were not at the D n D. The ‘dropped’ shawl was intended for you lor. Too bad you were not there to pick it up. No second chance.
    Heehee.

  87. At # 98, D n D party..

Please continue the story below with possible endings :-

The clock struck 12.00 midnight. In a haste , “Cinderella” dropped her silvery shawl at the Pines but all the princes and princesses were too busily dancing the night away and took no notice of her shawl and …… to be continued.

  88. There were many princesses from the north, south, east, central and west of a city nation.

100 plus adoring beauties and 30 charming princes.

Most had wholesome beings to continue their well deserved sweet dreams and rest; brought home presents and prizes, without leaving any string behind, but with love, gladness and happiness. An evening well spent.

Looked forward to a fresh morning and sunrise with gladness and joy.

  89. Hi Yew Kwong or anyone else who can shed some light.
I’ve been unable to get into my hotmail for the past 2 days. Anyone else experiencing the same difficulty?
    Has hotmail gone ‘kaput’?

  98. Hi everybody, I survived!
My daughter’s wedding is done and I’m back. I’ve put up a post under the Forum General, about the wedding. Thought I’d share the experience, fun and joy with all of you. Hope Terence allows it to be published. Can Terence?

  99. Karen Thio and Catherine Ho.
I’m replying to you both from here as I can’t seem to get in to the “Singapore Flyer….” post.

    Karen,

ya lor. I was told by my Cantonese speaking friend that the correct way to spell “TaiLor” according to hanyu pinyin is “DaiLo”, but my pinyin is just as ‘good’ and I would have pronounced it the English way, to rhyme with JLo (Jennifer Lopez) haha.

    Catherine Ho

You 3 ‘Cats’ must have been giving Yew Kwong and his mouse a headache, hehe. It might run and hide in his pants and then how? Hahaha. Oops! Naughty of me. Smack, smack.

  100. Regarding DOWNLOADABLE PC GAMES

    Hi All

I actually like “Chuzzle” very much. Hope to get it too.

    Sockie

  104. These games are also quite entertaining :

    2) Insaniquarium
    3) Ningpo Mahjong
    4) Bookworm

    From BigFish Games :
    1) Luxor (I hv)

    Others :
    1) Tri-Peaks

  105. Hi Mary

There was a game I loved to play called JEWEL QUEST and was very addicted to it at one stage. Bejewelled was also one of it but I prefer the older version. Dun like the new version. Go to msn and download it. Warning though – you might get addicted, don’t blame me ok? haha

    Have Great Fun !

  106. Maggie Teo
Bejewelled2 is one of my favourites but thankfully, I’m not addicted to any game, so far. Hahaha.

I have tried new games and want to download the full version so I can play to my hearts content and improve on my scores. Besides, I think it also exercises the mind.

I play pc games when I’m bored, not because I’m addicted to any one game. If I have classes to teach or activities to attend to, the games become secondary.

I wonder if I will actually have the time when my grandchild comes along. so, better play more now, just in case, hahaha.

Cheers and C U at the potluck this Saturday!
