Walk the walk: 8th Sep ’07

Information Specially for all the new members:

Monthly walks are held every 2nd Saturday of the month, rain or shine we will be there!  Thunder & lightning, we shall all be hiding!

Dear all SHCians,

This month, together, let us scale our country’s only Mount, which is also one of the oldest park, MT Faber.

Some asked "can climb meh?"  Let me assure you, YOU CAN!     emoticon

Come along and you shall be pleasantly surprised when soon you reached the top of the Mount !

There are a few trails.  Marang Trail has been selected because of its location and that it has a combination — a route for an easier climb yet, the same route also provides a slightly different gradient for those who need a little more legwork.  NO back breaking, leg hurting trail like the one I had trudged long ago.

Let’s Get Physical!!! for 10 to 15mins  — a sky reach; an arch; a stretch perhaps, is what you need.

Then with nimble feet you shall rise up the Mount, to behold the panoramic view of the skyline, the southern part of Singapore and the southern islands.

This view shall take your breath away, not so much the climb!   emoticon

A ship in calm waters, nostalgic trails, treasures of history and a Jewel you will find; a conquestto boast!  2 hours on a Mount, as you linger… as the wind whispers ….emoticon

Start Time:  4.15pm  (ie., we start 15mins earlier, than normal time)

Date:  Saturday, 8th September ’07.

Meeting Place:  at the foothill of Mt Faber – Marang Trail ie., if you are coming via

(*) MRT or Bus: proceed to Basement 1, HarbourFront MRT Station, look for "Exit D", walk up to ground level, behold.. Mt Faber!     and I shall be waiting…

Getting there:

via MRT – HarbourFront MRT station, proceed to Basement 1…. see (*)

via Bus – SBS 10, 30, 61, 65, 80, 97, 100, 131, 143, 145, 166.    Tibs 855.

1.  alight at Vivo City, proceed to Basement 1…. see (*)

2.  alight at Seah Im bus-stop, walk forward 1 min. is Exit D at ground level.

Parking is available at Vivo City, HarbourFront and Seah Im Carpark.  Standard fees apply.

Register here.

OR drop me an email: chrischan5575@yahoo.com

Stay cool!  Be cool!   emoticon    c ya!

Gentle Reminder:

1)  Always wear comfortable shoes; light, loose clothing; bring a small bottle of water;      poncho/umbrella.

2)  Optional items: cap, sun block, camera/binoculars, insect repellant.

  1. Hi to everybody that went for the Mt Faber Walk,

This was the first time I really climbed up Mt Faber and enjoyed the view from different locations. I enjoyed the company and took quite a few pictures. If you are interested in looking at the pictures I took, please go to my website which is stated below:

    http://picasaweb.google.com/puspalm50

Copy the address and paste it into the address bar of your browser. Hope you enjoy the pics.

    Regards, Philip

  2. Hi Christina and everybody,

I am very impressed with the organisation and success of this walk and climb up Mt. Faber. Although I am in India, I keep track of the action with the walking group.

This is an excellent way to keep healthy, and make and keep new friends. I encourage the group to stay together, and grow even bigger. Have fun.

  3. Hi Christina and Lum Fook,

Thank you both very much for a very enjoyable albeit very tiring walk up Mount Faber.

After the first two flights of steps, I wanted to “gostan” but afraid to lose face, so trudge on. And I am glad I persevered.

It was a really good workout, and thankfully for the warm up, did not encounter any cramps, though the legs are like logs this morning.

Upon reaching home, took my dinner, showered and was knocked out. Slept like a baby.

Thanks again for the detailed info and precise instructions which I fortunately printed and brought along.

I am sure both Christina and Lum Fook must have gone through a lot of work to make sure e have a good time.

Many thanks again and have a good day!

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  4. Hi Christina,

Sorry can’t join you for the walk today as I have accidentally injured my left small toe.

Hurts when I put on my shoes.

    Ronald Lim HK & Patricia.

  15. Hi Molly and Steven
Although I have not met you yet, you both sound very jovius, comical and very friendly indeed.
Molly thanks for your suggestion and Steven thanks for your promise.

I will re consider it then.
    Thanks and rgrds
    Jane

  16. Piggy-back. Is that a promise?

6 feet; panaromic view; one manpower; human intelligence vehicle.

Can I sell tickets too as a fun ride. Partnership, of course. Me brains. You brawn.

I may be tempted. Otherwise weekends is usually one long busy day of partying for me. I keep my exercise during the weekdays when I am off.

  17. Hi Jane,

Steven not only has strong legs but long legs too. He is a 6 footer and if you are not able to walk, he may also piggy back you. How about that Steven??? Good suggestion hor.

  18. See. Never fails to work.

Tell them about wonders of nature and mozzies, everyone has a weekend excuse.

Tell them about food and shopping, everybody’s in for the walkies.

  19. Hi Steven
Thanks for your encouragement. Probably you belong to the younger SilverHair group who has strong legs. Thus Mt Faber is sub sub shui to you.haha.

    Best rgrds
    Jane

  20. My dear friends,

The Sun still rises from the EAST every morning. It is because the Moon had turned Red recently ………

Do not want to miss the fun and fellowship with all of you.

    Cheers

  21. Hi Wong,

I almost forget that I still owe you one Starbucks coffee treat at Marina Atrium.

Hope you can turn up for our Mt. Faber walk and I treat you to either of Taiwanese spicy beef noodles or Hong Kong beef noodles or BOTH at Vivo City. Ok?

    Hope to see you there,
    Steven Chan

  22. Hi and Good morning
    Wong Kong Thean,

Vivo City has a food Republic(FoodCourt)that has traditional Chinese setting. Very creative indeed and at Suntec City they turn it into a huge LIBRARY where you are surrounded by books and food stalls. Another creative masterpiece.

I still like the food at Vivo City Food Republic esp. the Taiwanese”Toh Chor Mee” SPICY beef noodles where the cook slices pieces of dough into hot boiling water and the Hong Kong Beef noodles.VERY YUMMY :)
Highly recommended Rated 5 *and my stomach is already growling at the thought of the delicious food.

Try it to convince yourself after our EXHAUSTIVE Mt.Faber Walk.

    Steven Chan

  23. Better SUB SUB SHUI than SHUI CHOR (Canto for “something bad’s happened to you”. Don’t be the next ex-marathon runner.

Exercise to only 80% limit. Do regular, longer instead. After Mt. Faber walk to Vivo for lunch and then off to Sentosa. Anytime anyone wants to give up just take the monorail back to Vivo and wait for the rest. Excuse for tea whilst waiting.

    Survival shopping tips

    ————————

Vivo/Sentosa is generally more expensive in the same class. It is meant for the dumb tourists and super rich. But not all is lost. Because there is so much competition, just go for the offers. This is targetted for the KLKK KS locals. You may then even be surprised by the deals.

  24. Hi Jane,

Not to WORRY, we are NOT climbing Mt.Everest.In fact, it is NOT so STEEP compare to Mt.Kinabalu or Gunung Tahan.

Looking forward to meet you, Steven Chan

  25. Hi Jane,

Not to WORRY, we are NOT climbing Mt.Everest.In fact, it is NOT so STEEP compare to Mt.Kinabalu or Gunung Tahan.

    Looking forward to meet you,
    Steven Chan

  26. Hi Christina
I am new to the club and has yet to meet up with the gang. Was just wondering whether the climb to mt faber is steep. Have got weak knees and afraid may be a burden to you all.

    Have a good weekend.
    Regrds
    Jane

  27. Hi Christina

I will be coming for the Mount Faber walk/ climb.

See you and the rest of SCHians on 8 Sep,

    Have a good weekend.

    Regards,
    Mary Tan

  28. Hi Benson, –
You are right – hvn’t been to Mt.F for a long time – no reason to.

    Very cleeeveer Dan, –
You, too have a car hor.

    Gingko, –
Good reflexes … Dan can’t back out now. heehee ^.^ As for freshening up, u might wan to ask Benson since he’s the expert on Mt.F

  29. Hey Peggy, not only Rene but I was also surprised to see you signing up for this walk….ha..ha.. must be something you find so interesting that makes you come & join us. Just a reminder, but I know you won’t forget your umbrellas & sunscreen.

    C U :)

    Susan

  30. Wow, Peggy Ho

When did the sun rise from the WEST?
I thought you only appear after 10pm?
Cannot resist our attractions “hai mai?” (Canto)

    Haha!
    Rene :)

  31. Hello Lily & the clubbing gang,

I am game, I am game for this night-out after the walk. So irresistible. Seriously, where can we freshen up and transform eh? Better be in apple-pie order lest get thrown out. Tsk, tsk, carrying all the barang, barang like chow lor…

  32. Lily,

Presume you have not been to mount faber for a long long time.
Will bring you for a educational tour of the new surrounding up there. haha.

I intend to shoot all participants at the hill base and there after at the summit.
    Imagine how look, hehe.

    Just a kapo shooter la.
    Christina, can or not?

    Cheers

  33. Ok Benson, on! With Dolly and me, you are finished. Those who want to cheong after the walk, will have to freshen up and metamorphose into clubbing chic?? Hee hee, won’t you be too tire having to carry all the barang barang?? :)

BTW Benson, what Titanic are you talking about??

  34. Chris, I hv instructed Lieutenants Ahpek and Chatek to each fly a puma chopper over the hill, stretching a piece of giant canvas to shield the sun (so what you all want to do, happily do bcos there wont be enough light for others to see) but if the beanpole pricks a hole to bring in the sun & prying eyes then it’s not my men’s fault hor………….

  35. Hey Lily,

Must build up my stamina slowly and where better to do it than our very own Mt. Faber. This place conjures up memories of my younger days …..

Will stick close to you for support just in case I can’t climb halfway through hehe! How to adjourn for clubbing all sweaty and shabby?

  36. Ah Nee said,

“this is not Mount Ophir or Mount Everest. Mt. Faber “sub sub water” for u”.

Ha, Ah Nee, they are from the same family. Small or big, will scale.

  37. Lily & Dolly,

    Great suggestion!
We will be up there early for patohing, jalan jalan around the titanic ship and capture wonderful pictures follow by having a drink at the jewel. Ai mai

Promise beautiful pictures will be up in the web. hehehe

    Cheers

  38. oh..lalala Suzchang.. you are on high already b4 the Mount! Calm down… take a deep breathe, hold, slowly, breathe out… better?

yea I was surprised by all the hype! must b u gals ;) no matter #1 or #2, MT FABER holds its own, like all mountains, small or big, it has its appeal :D

Just a word of caution: be properly attired as Mr. Sun might be up even till 6pm not forgetting we are on higher ground.
How to metamorphose for sundown after a walk! for #2 it is not easy le ;) please take it off site, include me, okey, I’ll join in but not till the wee hours as next day is Sunday, got to be in church on time for a wedding ;)

Calling all others esp the Regulars, come enjoy the Mount b4 IR hype it with more tourists (not that I am against it). Let the gregarious flock zest the walk!

  39. Hello Lily,

ha…ha..ha…exercise at Mt. Faber first than follow by relaxing at St. James. Wow! so exciting leh…..
    Wei wei,

    Susan

  45. Aiyoh Dolly, I walk ten steps with you, now you walk 100 steps with me lor.

If you wan, I can bring trolley, buggy or pram and when you buay tahan oredi, we put you in whatever we bring and we push you up. Maybe I am the one who needs pushing up.

    Dolly lai! lai! lai! leh

Looking forward to meeting you again Christina. Btw, I must look for someone to disappear with lah. But I think with so many people, it would be quite difficult, especially if we want to continue with session2, which I think I would rather do.

  46. hmmm.. good mix! we’ve got Mr. Muscle, Mr. Panjang, seems I might be unable to reply to each one…. catcha with each of you at the walk. Come early and you’ll have more of me hahahaha

Susan: thanks for the whistle! we shall pack the Mount. yes, its Saturday nite, we shall continue with session 2… could have rock SJPS! however, our attire might be too obvious.

CarolineG: ohhh did tempt your senses? should u disappeared! we’ll understand ;)

    Rene: i waited ;) thanks.

It is always my pleasure to organize the walks as each walk that I recce, I learn new things, each walk I walk with fellow SHCians I meet interesting pple… the more the merrier :))

  47. Hello Renee,

Sori hor, this is not Mount Ophir or Mount Everest. Mt. Faber, “sub sub water” for u leh. The fun is we all can walk together and follow by our 2nd session at Vivo mah :)Calling for Dolly, Molly, Lily, YK and the rest of the cycling group……….
Koh Ben Son, how come you “eat snake” huh, don’t want to walk and meet us at the Top.

    Ah Nee

  48. Susan, lei gen, lei gen..

    Christina,

Although I know you for quite a while but this is my first time to support your walk cos’ the word “Mount” attracts me. ha!

  49. Susan, I can hear your calls. Yes, I would join in the fun. Also because Christina’s description of the place is so tempting.

Christina, pls include me in your walk. Many thanks to you for arranging.

Would probably take bus no 10 there as it is so convenient.

    C ya

  50. Hi Christina

Please include me. I’ll be glad to share
with fellow SHCians some easy-to-do strecthing
and warm-up(5 to 10 mins)at the foothill of
Mt Faber. Believe me, this will help lessen ache after the walk.

  51. Dear John… welcome to party! yes, I tried to visualize as one who is on unfamilar grounds at HBF…. thought I succeed. Anyway, look at the signages, head towards the MRT then, look for EXIT D.. I do the same each time I am there as no point to memorize, the signage is quite good :) see you!

  52. Alice: I know someone with the same name & I always call her Wonder! just being playful ;)
    Look forward to meet you.

Catherine Chong: welcome! btw, is Evelyn Ong a member? If not, please ask her to sign up to enjoy all the happenings at SHC!

Answer: yes, please. Can i experience tt expertise! u may do the same as at Botanical Gdns ;) Was it only 1 shot you did? It was good you’ve got the crowd in! Do it once again as Mt Faber sights are beautiful! it satiates…

  54. Hi Chris,

Haha can i see all of you at “the jewels” at 6.20pm sharp.

Beautiful toilets up there for you to clean up. Open air and very airy with spectacular view of the surrounding.

  55. hello Christina,

u are very thorough but I still can’t figure out the venue bcos in the 1st place I’ve not been to the HBF mrt stn. I suppose all will be fine after I’ve visited the stn? I frequent Telok Blangah Hill Park for walk\jog but never tried Mt Faber. Keen to join your party. Rgds johnhowe

Altho a SHC activist, I hv not joined you & butties on walks but will when I hv had my last day for sports a bit more vigorous & demanding.

Keep the Walk going and cherish it as with so many changes happening, soon there might be only 2 walks left……….into the casino b4 heading for choa chu kang.
