Return to Perth

Hi All

Just got back from Singapore. Met with a few SHCs to talk about wildflower tours and retirement in general. Am making a 3 day self-drive trip and hope to see some wildflowers and do a spot of fishing up north of Perth.

Perhaps some of you may wish to visit Perth and do some things here. Let me know if you need some assistance.

Regards to all

Joan

  1. Hi Joan,

It was so nice meeting up with you while you were in Singapore. Thank you for sharing all the interesting info about Perth.
Hope you have had a pleasant stay here.

My son is planning a self drive family trip to Perth, probably in December. I’m going to Egypt on 28 Nov 07, and hope that my old bones will still be able to carry me to Perth when I return in Dec.

Have an enjoyable wild flower & fishing trip.

    Priscilla :)

  2. Hi Joan,

I am thinking of going somewhere in December to spend my birthday on 21/12. When are you making your 3D self drive trip? Also how is Christmas like in Perth, or any part of Australia?

    Rgds, Maria

  3. Hi Joan
Is nice to know that you have reached home safely. Alice and I thank you very much for your taking time off to meet us with Priscilla and Kong Thean some time back, and shared with us your experiences about travelling in areas surrounding Perth. As we have had made known to you earlier our intention of going to Perth, most probably next year, we shall keep in touch with you until then.

After your drive up north, we will be looking forward to hear from you, your experience of the trip.

    REGARDS

  4. Joan,

Mary and Stephen Tan are good friends of mine in Perth. When I first met them, I use to ask them how and why they settled down in Perth.

In short, I think they just love Perth, its climate and being with friends in this city.

One thing excites me about Perth is the many bungalows and houses belonging to people, who are in Perth for a few weeks a year. Why are they empty for most of the year?

I like the airconditioned climate in Perth, the fishing. I hope to send my son there to study when he gets older. But, important is, besides Thailand, I would like to live in Perth for say 3 months a year. And I hope some SilverHairs will join me in 10 years, at the age of 62. And, that is if I dont have to work to 67.

Wonder, if I will ever see retirement in Perth. Am jealous that there are ex-Singaporeans like yourself already there.

  5. Hi Terence

I’m pretty sure that it’s possible to retire in Perth one day – perhaps at the moment try to get in touch with friends in Perth to see if you can stay here for a couple of weeks or months. I can try to help out by asking around people that I know here.

Perhaps the option for now is to stay at caravan parks or self-contained chalets where you can do your own cooking. That will cut down expenses.

Singaporeans who bought homes for investment reasons don’t like to rent them out as it involves taxes and the hassle of maintenance.

  6. Hi Priscila, Ron n Alice

Yes, I enjoyed meeting you too. I hope to do a bit of travelling around West Australia this time that I’m back.

Hope to see you here one day. Will certainly give news of my 3 day trip up north.

    Regards
    Joan

  7. Hi Maria

I will be making my trip from 19-21 Sep. Some of the places are new but that’s where I hope to see fields of wildflowers. I’m using the self-drive routes suggested by some tour agencies.

Dec is summer here and can be pretty hot with day temps rising even to mid 30s.However if you stay in the shade, it’s OK. The heat is dry and the humidity is low compared to Singapore.

In Dec, you can get stone fruits – especially cherries. I’m planning to join a day tour outing to visit a cherry farm, pick and buy cherries besides sightseeing. If you are interested in this, let me know and I’ll let you have the dates. You will need to make a booking at least 6 weeks beforehand.

    Regards
    Joan

  8. Hi Charles and all

I visited the websites and your idea is great. However I’m not very computer savvy and not sure how to post things on a blog etc.

I ame back from my trip up north and the drive was enjoyable – not tiring even for 1 driver. Besides seeing wildflowers as we drove along, we also visited some churches built by an architect priest named Monsignor Hawes. Especially interesting were wreath flowers which the Information Centre directed us.

Kings Park has wildflowers on display at the grounds from 1 Sep – 1 Oct and this is on every year. Do take the opportunity to visit Perth in Sep. On Sunday when I was there, there were many tourists – possibly many from S’pore.

    Regards
    Joan
