SHC Dinner & Dance – March 2008

We will be having a Dinner & Dance next year 2008.

Caroline Gee has volunteered to be the Event Organiser for our Dinner & Dance 2008.  She will be setting up a committee, after the Nov 2007 Talent-Time.

The committee will be reviewing the venue, F&B, program, cost, etc.  Tentatively, the date has been set for Sat, 22 Mar 2008.  Please put this into your diary.  We can be sure Caroline will give us loads of fun.

  1. An ebullient effervescent character……..Caroline makes a very good choice as 2008 D&D organiser. Like her predecessor Dolly & her Team, we can look forward to another funky, exciting Annual Dinner & Dance.

Terence, a big credit to you for landing a Good Catch.

  2. Thanks Tim for the compliments. Now I feel great pressure to live up to all the expectations.

But no worries. I will try my utmost best to make it a night to remember, but of course with all the support from fellow SHCians.

Btw, your adjectives very cheem. But must be good ones.

Looking forward to the big day.

P.S. I have checked the calendar and 21 March 2008 is Good Friday so 22 March may not be ideal. So its tentatively 22 March or 29 March 2008. I am doing some scouting around for venues and prices. After I have got something going, will announce to everyone. In the meantime, sit back and relax.

    Have a nice day.

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  3. Gee, hee & see, Caroline, you hv got good mates in Yew Kwong & ANee and counting. I daresay, many more will come in here and there at the D&D to support you, carry you, massage you, toss you & toast with you.

Those adjectives….must i tell where I found & copied them? Ok lor, from the men’s loo of mandai zoo near a famous school whose guru told me they carry more class than johnny walker blue (label) and i wd be a fool & deserve the screw if i dont use them on you too.

  4. Hi Timi, you are so funny. We are like one big happy family going for D & D.

Eh not bad right. Also rhyme like yours.

Ok I will assign some to carry me, some to massage me, some to toss me and some to toast with me. What duties you want huh?

Must go to Mandai Zoo to check out the men’s loo.

Yes I appreciate very much the camaradie in SHC. Eh rhyme again leh :)

  5. Neely & Yewly

Thanks for the anticipated support to set the ball rolling. I take being Mermaid as a compliment.

Yewly, you have agreed to be my Treasurer. Is it still on? Thank you first.

  6. Will try to rhyme one in Bahasa, knowing how pien jiak my grasp of the language is :-

Ali, Bibi, Bengali dan Humpty Dumpty semua pergi D&D…..sana ada roti, kopi dan chilli free tapi orang banyak tiket t’ada belakang masuk kasih dia mati milik Terence decree……….heeeheeeheee

  7. Thanks Yew Kwong. Greatly appreciated.

And Tim, you are so funny that I laugh until nearly mati nanti only see my gigi kena pergi jamban banyak kali lepas kena cuci.

Aiyo Tim jangan buat I ketawa lagi. Malam malam mimpi Timi.

    Hee! Hee! Hee!

  8. Ya lor Christina. Second D & D. I was very kiasu early this year. Registered to be member so I can attend it.

    Enjoyed myself very much.

    Anly, already included you :)

  9. Most heartening to read the spontaneous & strong support for Caroline. I am enthused but wont be surprised if she has to date ah yew pek over candlelight dinner for the use of that plush grounds next to Plaza S’pura to accomodate everyone.

Biggest party ever at Orchard Rd? You bet……….

  10. Hi Tim

Who is Ah Yew Pek. Is he a good companion material? If yes, then you introduce to me and maybe we can have our D&D on Orchard Road after my candle light dinner with him.
    Ai mai?

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  11. Caroline, he is abt 85, good, very good, well respected altho he does hv his detractors…..

Many are in awe of him so in that sense, he may not make a perfect companion except to his beloved wife. Great if he joins SHC, attend our cycling, pot-luck, Dennis’ danz class and yr talentime.

So the ai mai is back to you. Ai mai?

  12. In SHC, where to find you ones except for us to whine & wallow in the song The Young Ones.

Seriously, He is a great guy and to my mind wd have been greater if his heart remains close to the ground where the pine & sigh is. You cant hear the grassroots thru feedbacks which are usually no more than hearsay; worse, making sounds which they think the master loves to hear.

  13. Tim

Your writing is very cheem. I really dont understand. To other people, you can write cheem cheem.

But for me, simple English can already.

    Many thanks.

  14. Hi Caroline:

Congratulations & celebrations, yes u gonna be a good EO 4 the D&D,
Congratulations & jubilations, we want all the SHC members 2 know you’re happy to be one..thump, thump, thump, thump. Pls shout if u nid my help.

    Cheers, Dennis

  15. Thanks Dennis. You bet I will shout for you when I need help. Thanks very much for the offer. Will do my best to make everyone happy.

Still waiting for the chance to have lunch with you and the other gals – remember the chocolate cake you all were talking about?

    Have a nice day.

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  16. Hi Caroline, with you in charge, think it’s gonna be a great D & D!!! :-). A small request pls…more focus on the 2nd D pls, the Dance I mean!!! :-) For my co’s D & D, when the 2nd D starts, everyone starts to leave!!! so very boring. To enjoy dance, the dancefloor must be packed!! Agree?…Looking forward to the Dance. The last dance I had was in Batam with other SHC folks :-)))
Btw, think u already hve lots of helpers. But should u need another pair of helping hands, mine’s at your service.

  17. Thanks June. I will keep your offer in mind.
Yes, dont we all love dancing. I think it should not be a problem at SHC cos many have started dance classes and some are already accomplished dancers. Will try to find a place with a big dance floor. Time to start dance practices to show off your “kang hu” at the D&D.

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  18. Dear June,

Yes I agree with you, without the 2nd D…it is not D&D. Come lah June, join our crazy gang and make sure the dance floor is packed. heeee…he…he..you are definitely in the D&D attendance list liao :)

    Ah Nee

  19. Hi Caroline: Can you join us for lunch? You are working, rite?

Hi Mary: am working on Mon and Tues. Probably not on Thurs..will confirm.

    Cheers, Dennis

  20. Hi Dennis,
Chocolate fondant will have to wait then. I will be away from Thurs to the following Tuesday.
After that will be fine. So gotta drool on still ;-)

  21. Weiwei,
Last D&D, we hv line dance demonstration n since this yr, we hv social dance group, why dun we hv a dance demonstration by this group hor…Dan, u can b great coordinator, i believed So r u game har.. Caroline, agreed bo?

  22. Ya lor, Ben’s son, being a professional photographer at such events like D&D, you have seen numerous scene like this. Once the final lucky draw is drawn, the ballroom was completely deserted. That’s why we need people like you, Tim, Yew Kwong, Dennis, Lily, Dolly, Carly, the social dance group and many others to keep the ball rolling. I understand that the social dance group are now learning the “rock & roll”, so your know what to do lor……keep on rocking…rolling….. :)

    Ah Nee

  23. Agreed Dolly. Dan are you on for a dance demo for our D&D with your dancing kakis.

Yes, I also agree with Ah Nee. I hope that those who come for the D&D will stay on and dance the night away and not waste the funds that go into booking the place for longer hours. So Tim, Yew Kwong, Dennis, Ron & Alice, Dan, Gingko, Veronique and all the Dancing Kings and Queens, ai mai?

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  24. See, Ben’s son, you like to taunt the gals & now ANee got tempted and want us to roll balls at the D&D………how?

Caroline, me no know how to danz so can I just hug someone closely, tightly, walk around the danz floor and call it danz?

  25. Tim, You can hug someone and walk around also can. So long as you make use of the dance floor. Will try to make the area you use dimmer for you and your partner.

Thanks Yew Kwong for the promise.

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  26. Thanks Caroline and also for wanting us to make full use of the danz floor so DanH reading, we can play bedminton there liao after rapping us for growing cheating hearts.

Caroline, pls dim it to the darkest so that when I shine my torch from under my jaws & hop about, I shd look more like the real thing……….

  27. Ah Nee,
I think you got it wrong. I am not in the dance and demo group la.

    Tim,
I’ll try to borrow a displayed fully clad mannequin specially for you to hug closely, tightly and parade around the danz floor. Aimai….

  28. Benson
How can you see Tim no eye. You think he needs a mannequin meh.

Maybe got people want him to hug and walk around the dance floor.

Sorry Tim, I am not talking about myself he! he!

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline

  29. Well, Ben’s son has a square head to stand on so if I find the mannequin uninteresting and Caroline refuses to be hugged, I’ll perch on Ben son’s head & let him danz away the nite below me.

  30. Hi Dennis

Thanks for being such a sport. Yes, I hope many more will stay to dance the night away.

I know I have Tim (who will hug someone and go round the dance floor – wonder who the lucky gal is he! he!), Yew Kwong who says have dance tonight not going home and now I have Dennis who will dance the night away.
Looking forward to a night of fun.

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  31. Hi Caroline,

    Sure, I ai, ai, ai!

If Yew Kwong is game for ???????, Tim goes “lamzing” on the danz floor, I can ???????. Cannot rock, roll will do. Cannot cha cha, then char char char (bising, bising) la…

Hey, hey all dancing and non-dancing SHCians, come on join in the fun. Let’s give our full support to EO Caroline and play hard at this once-a-year event…

  32. Wow Gingko, you so ON ah ? I hope to see you be the 1st on the dance floor to start the ball-rolling, k?

With so many supporters, surely it will be very bising lah….

Cheers to Caroline, for taking the lead…

    Susan

  33. Ben Son

I will not give Tim the first dance after the mannequin

On the contrary, I will save the last dance for him. Like people say, save the best for last. He he got you there. I can dance the first waltz with you but you must teach me. I mean the type of waltz that got four steps. Not the type like Tim does, hug and walk round the dance floor hor.

Thanks Gingko, Ah Nee and Susan for the support.
    Gambate!!!!

    Warmest Regards

    Caroline Gee

  34. Well, be it a mannequin or Mary the Queen, I’ll try to do the vogue danz with her which has to be the rauchy salsa.

But since I dunno even a single step of any danz, will just push my thigh out & out and see what happens……….

Heee, the noti son of Ben might just put his triangular butt on my thigh.

  35. Tim,
Salsa is a lovely dance. You can make it sensual or raunchy, it’s up to the individual. It’s not always raunchy. There are some who do it beautifully and with grace, without indecent moves.
I guess for people with sex always on their mind, there’s no difference.

  36. Thank you Mary, for spotting my typo error (in the word raunchy).

Sure, salsa is a lovely danz to the many deeply in love, and a greater number wanting madly to make love.

Lest I be mistaken as another sex machine at large, I’ll stick to hugging the mannequin that is Ben’ son and walk about on the danz floor.

“Why do you sulk, sir when you cd also join the raucous to parade yr raunchy best?”

  37. Haha, you were shy to add a sly in yr translation of “seo lai seo ker, mm chai cheng tee kai hor”.

Correctly, it is “think here think there, still dunno (whether) wear panties good” for the D&D.

  38. I am a Teochew, and am comfortable with the spoken dialects. But, I am koind of thinking that after 29 years, SilverHairsClub may not have so many Hokkiens, TeoChews and Cantonese. The Bahasa will definitely stay. So, we have only the Mandarins and the English left.

So, for the heavily accented dialect writers, I look forward to seeing you around in 29 years. Don’t worry, I shall be around in at least 19 years.

    Carry on with the dialects.

    Terence

  39. Hi Tim/June,

D&D is so far away and now must decide what to wear! Tim, you must ask me for guidance here lah. ‘Sio lai sio ker, min en cheng xiang hor’.

Translated means: Think here, think there, no need to wear, is best. Better Tim?

  40. Bo hor, bo better…….bo cheng, long chong silverhair kua ka liao, mai……..wa mai !

Reminds me of this 10 principles learned in primary 1…..yat yan chek mok, ee yang tong chong, samfu cui sai, sei wei mo mo, ng chi cha lin, lok cuk kerk kerk, cherk cuin boon cheong, pak chi chang hoi, gou tou jek yep, sapp feng kor yan………no translation will be entertained.

  41. Hi Terence,

‘For Singaporeans, 45 years, wanting to meet new friends.” How Terence, I am non-Singaporean. Does it mean I have to get out. So cannot do any posting with Mary, June, Joyce, Veronique, Yew Kwong, Steven, Dennis, Ronald and especially Tim.

  42. Hi Lina Ng,

    You still a M’sian.
I am S’porean for many yrs. Only 1 great disadvantage, I cannot hold dual passports unlike my elder sisters in London and Paris.

It was quite “pathetic” to see you on crutches hopping a long distance from car park C to D on our pot luck day.

Luckily, kind Dennis came to your rescue with his bicycle.

    Are you still on crutches?
    Take extra care,
    Steven

    Btw,aren’t u > lucky than me.

At least u can understand spoken Mandarin and it make a world of difference in Mandarin speaking Singapore.

Sometimes,I felt lost when the shpkeepers or sellers speak Mandarin and can’t understd what it means esp. in China.

I had to use body and sign language to converse with the sale girls when I wanted to buy some winter clothings/souvenirs unless my family members are around to help.

    Very Chiam lah!

  43. Hi Steven,

Yah lah, Steven, did not take up citizenship here ‘cos there was not a need to. Anyway, no more crutches, but still limping. Like Ronald Wie said, will take 3 weeks! This is terribly inconvenient for me.

Hey, to buy things I thought sign language is enough. Why must body language also?

Very easy to learn Mandarin. Followed my girlfriends to market every morning and got free tuition for many years. You want to follow us to market? Or I teach you Mandarin lah. How much you want to pay? Can speak only. Read newspapers, quite hopeless. See you at talentime.

  44. Hi Lina,

I have not really given this issue a serious thought, as we don’t have an issue at the moment, as both Singaporeans and Malaysians are very friendly with one another. I think we should all just stay good friends. We have also a number of Malaysians in the club.

To close this topic, you are most welcome, like all other SilverHairs. Please enjoy yourself amongst the members of SilverHairsClub.

    Terence Seah

  45. Hi Lina Ng,

….Hey, to buy things I thought sign language is enough.
    Why must body language also?

You see in Chengdu,China I ask for the gents in the departmental store, the salesgirl looks puzzled and says “pu tong nee sok some mok”

    Urgent high tide lah !
No choice, has to use body language too :-

I had to show one of my fingers in front of my long pants and say “shi shi”,”shi shi”.

And she says “wo tong ” and directed me to the toilet.

  46. Eee… Steven you so “er sin” … how come they don’t understand you ?? Btw, how come they address toilet as “wo tong” ??

So next time if Nor were to go with us, she better stay close with us, if not she will hv problem too…ha..ha..

  47. Hi Suzhang,
    …“er sin” ?
    what is er sin?

Embarassed,no choice lah at least it can made her understd.
    Urgent call.
wo tong(woi toong) not toilet means she can understand what I wanted.

  48. Hi Steven,

You are really too much! You should at least learn the most basic Mandarin before you go to China. So, what other things you use sign language? You must look absolutely ridicuous. Did you have to pull your pants down?

Next time, bring somebody who knows Mandarin along. Solve your problem!

  49. Hello June,

No point crying over spilt milk. Talent-time is over is over. There is still D&D next on the list. Like you said, this time “cee cee” must come. So, be early and put your name down.

Don’t fret or fuss about what to wear. Just bring yourself, come along to meet your friends, other fellow members and have a good time. If there is a Haiwaii stunt, then you can come in grass skirt, straw skirt, coconut shells, bare-footed, frangipani by the side of your left or right ear and that is enough to make you really exotic and pretty until buah tahan liao. Then you can revolve your hips and do the ooola hula ooola hula. Won’t it be fun? Can you imagine if the SilverHair guys come parading in beach shorts, flip-flops, printed floral shirts and go bare-chested… oooh, better leave it for you to seo seo. But, of course, have to wait patiently for EO Caroline to spring us her surprise…

Meantime, you can think of chope’ing a VIP table and get your kakis ready… hee hee.
