Looking for a place to host SHC monthly gatherings

The numbers are growing; and it has become pretty tight with a number of places we currently use for the monthly gathering.  We cannot expand due to limited places.  Do you know of a place with the following specifications.

  1. Something like Hans Cafe at Great Eastern would be excellent.  The venue has F&B, and we don’t have to get involved with serving food, collecting monies and cleaning the tables.
  2. Preferably where the coffee or tea is less than $2.
  3. Plenty of seats, although a minimum of 50 is desired.  SilverHairs need to sit after 10 minutes of standing.
  4. Very flexible with numbers; meaning committment to numbers can be made one week before actual event.
  5. The venue should preferably not be a function room, with boring four walls.  A setting in an auditorium, a cafe, a restaurant (especially off peak times), a food court (off-peak), a swimming pool in a condo ground.

Do you have a place in mind?  But, not to rule out other places, your recommendation most appreciated.

  1. Hi Terence,

I can try the function room at Eastvale Condo in Pasir Ris for you. It’s just facing the pool with sliding glass doors and air-conditioned. As for food, there’s a foodcourt and lots of other fast food or restaurants just across the road to Downtown East.

I need to know the date/time required so that I can check if it’s still available. Like all condos, I’m sure there’s some time restrictions (i.e. cut off time) so for those who would like to party on, can just cross the road to Downtown East and proceed to a cafe etc. and carry on from there. What do you think? Let me know if you want to check this place out. Rgds, Lisa

  3. Hmm, I guess it is tough to find a venue, fitting my requirements. This may explain why one response to this Post. I forgot to add the for monthly gatherings, the venue should preferably be close to a MRT station.

I had a suggestion from Patrick Yeo for Harbour Front Food court, 3rd floor, with wide space.

Plse give your suggestion for a new place. Maybe you know of a suitable place.

  4. Recently met up with some old frens at Botanic Gardens’ Taman Serasi Food Centre. It has both aircond indoor and outdoor tables and provide a good mix of food at reasonable price, abt $4.00. Adequate basement carpark at $1.20/hr or $2 per entry after 7pm. Nearest MRT is Orchard where SBS 7 & 174 and TIBS 106 go direct to BG. The environment is very soothing with lots of ‘green’ and ‘water’ elements to calm the nerves. Although open to public, the outdoor area is quite exclusive and can be used for SHC mthly mtg.

  5. Hi everybody,

Yesterday, I visited the Paya Lebar Kovan CC on the invite of Michael Tan.

I was particularly interested in the hall which can host 180 people. There is also a stage, suited for concerts. I have also been told the hall is suited for dancing. Food is easily accessible. The venue is right at the Kovan MRT.

We keep this place in mind.

  6. Yew Kwong,

I heard from my sport committee friend at Paya Lebar Kovan CC, Michael Tan is the Paya Lebar Kovan CC MC (Management Committee). I knew some of the sport committee staff during our regular sunday aerobic at Kovan Hub, but not Michael Tan.

  7. Hi Yew Kwong,

Sure, I would arrange you to meet up with him sometime or asap. The venue has also a 10+1 PC computer centre.

Might be convenient for those living along the North East Line. We chat tomorrow.
