  2. Hi Roland,

Another venue is Karaokie Lounge at SAFRA Tampines (with dance floor) …. rental for the place for weekend is $700, 7pm to 12am, for eve is more expensive … so could be costly for small group of ppl…the sound system there is very good.

  3. Hi Jane,
Thank you for the info. I’ve contacted the organiser of SAFRA Dancefloor Club. They are having a X’mas Eve Party and a New Year’s Eve Party at $45/pax inclusive of buffet dinner for his members. He is extending the two functions to the public. If we wish to have our own date and Party, he could organise it for us at the same venue for $35/pax, minimum 40 pax inclusive of dinner, rental of hall and band.
    Any suggestions from SHCians?

  4. Hi Roland

Do you know what is the max capacity for dinner and enough space for dancing. Interested to know. Is this the one at Safra Tanah Merah area?

    Many thanks.

  5. Roland, great thots and a good gesture to volunteer this Year End party !

However, even if it doesnt take off bcos 2007 has been a boming good year and venues are hard to come by, you can still work with Caroline on SHC’s D&D and so take us all into the New Year with a big Bang.

  6. Roland,
If you organise the party, I will support you. It would be good to have SHC’s own Christmas cheer and New Year countdown, whichever it’s going to be.

  7. Thanks Tim. Welcome back my dear Butty.

Hope you had a great holiday with your kiddo.

Has started my recce for venue, etc. Will have to firm up some things before putting up the posting.

In the meantime, please bear with us for this slight delay. With the festive seasons round the corner, everything is choc-a-bloc, so can’t move fast enough.

  8. Caroline,
I’ve emailed you the brochure of SAFRA Mount Faber. It can cater up to 300+ people. Let me know when you receive it.
    Roland

  9. Thanks Roland for your swift response. Going to slumberland soon.

Trying very hard but still cant sleep.

    Good nite

  10. Roland,

This is excellent. Christmas is going to be a very busy period for companies. However, I ask you to take the lead by picking a date and a place. You can decide on it.

Then keep other SHC members informed on the forum so that they too can write the date and time in their diary.

I am sure a number of SHC members will be able to join you. As for myself, I would be back in the new year. Meantime, please go ahead.

  11. Thanks Jane for the info. Also, package in the brochure that Roland sent to me seems attractive.

Will have to find out more.

Btw, do you know the max capacity of the CSC at Tessensohn.

    Many thanks

  12. Hi Roland/Terence,

One suggestion is to check out the YMCA who charges per head for their buffet and free use of the function room.

Another cheap alternative is the schools (I can’t remember which school) that lets out their hall for private functions in the evenings as a form fund raising for the school’s upkeep. Catering will be on our own and I think we have to clean up after that as well.

    Regards, Lisa

  13. Thank you Roland for acting so promptly.

Caroline, I was inside 1 of those tunnels in Cu Chi used by the vietcongs during the vietnam war. Coincidentally, it was abt noon on the 8th.

In pitch darkness, the very narrow tunnel which will definitely hv Patrick stuck in there, kept leading me down and meandering into branch tunnels, with air getting more stuffy & scarce.

I thanked the Almighty that my kid didnt take the plunge as I wd hv been scared to bits, knowing not when or where she wd emerge. Even then, I felt stupid and irresponsible to hv left my kid outside to worry.

    Now, back to this thread.

It wd be fun for silverhairs to go back to school but it being a school, there may be certain rules which cannot be bent too much.

So the gate may close earlier than midnite, liquor may be a no-no, and if the school is in a residential neighbourhood, we may not be able to show our boisterous selves.

Nonetheless, it’s not a bad idea to explore further.

  14. Tim

I am sure your kiddo must be happy just to see you come out of that treacherous place in one piece and unharmed.

And we are also glad you have come back, “unchanged” he! he!

  15. Yes, Caroline, my kid is a happy gal or maybe she is pretending to be so when she doesnt hv what she yearns for…….a family.

I understand that there hv been unreported incidents & mishaps of tourists who braved the tunnels.

No, I hv changed. I am hungrier for $…..

  16. Hi Caroline,

One more option, air-conditioned multipurpose hall of the Community Centre, big enough to hold 10-15 tables. Toa Payoh West is recommended as its central location and walking distance from mrt. As for food..can look for caterer.

I have attended a few dinner and dance party held at some of the CC….not bad though.

  17. Hi Caroline,

I have attended a buffet D&D held at Singapore Swimming Club, about $45/pax….. have a big dance floor…might be expensive….one more option…hahaha

I not sure the CSC Tessensohn can hold how many table, but the space is bigger than the one we had at SGCC. the rental is $200/hr…member has 20% discount.

  18. Thanks Jane. There is a problem though. We have to end early at CCs.

But appreciate all the recommendations :)

  19. Hi Caroline

I m not sure about the timing, but if it is allowed for Xmas eve countdown party…surely is up to 12 midnite ..

  20. Caroline,
I’ve just made some enquiries about the Ballroom at CSC as I’m a member there.Booking per hour for members is $170 inclusive of the Technician operating the Audio System. The place can accommodate 300 people easily. Catering has to be done in-house.Telephone number of the Chinese Restaurant and Sammy’s Curry Restaurant.
    Good Luck!

  21. Roland, you are doing the xmas/new year party. I am planning for my D&D.

I have actually shortlisted my D&D venue. I will look at the options and hopefully, I can put up my post soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have noted all the recommendations and will make comparisons so that we could get the best deal :)

    Cheers!

  22. CCs cut-off time is definitely by 11pm – they can run abit by half an hour but not more than dat lor…

CC is not a good option cos everything there is bare minimal n we will need d extra $$$ to do up d hall, etc, etc.. n by end day, it could be more expensive lor..

  23. Aiyo Roland you mean the Xmas/New Party and D&D?

Yours is 3 weeks time and mine is 3 months time leh? How to combine?

At the most, we can go to the beach and do countdown rite. Bring your own booze and food and crackers and whistle and……

    What do you think?

  24. Tim

Whatever happens there in the tunnels, just glad you are not one of the casualties.

You have done all that you can for your kiddo and I can only hope that she is genuinely happy.

  25. Har nor.. Brother Tong, Xmas oli hor less 2wks, till now nsnp, jialat liao…

I tin hor beta plan 1 like zooming into Y2008, how abt dat har…

  26. Thanks much, Caroline.

A beach countdown can be exciting………..one will be greeted by the ships sounding their horns and looking out, you might also catch glimpses of fireworks. It is also relatively hassle free altho the gals may not be able to show in the darkness that they’re actually getting younger & prettier into the New Year and the guys, more macho…….

  27. HAHAHA Tim.
You hope. Good thing for the darkness. Less chance of seeing wrinkles and crows feet.

CAROLINE. Yes,it can be exciting to do a beach countdown. Besides it’s cheaper that way, provided it doesn’t rain.
No need to bring your own booze etc. There are many places that serve drinks like that Summer Breeze, remember?

  28. Roland,
I think Caroline’s idea of a beach countdown is fun. Why not organise one at Pasir Ris beach?
    ;-)
Another potluck? But in the evening? We could have a BBQ instead. A potluck BBQ.
If it rains, you can always cancel the BBQ and we can all adjourn to some beach place like the Summer Breeze or the one next door. Then we can watch the ships’ lights and listen to their horns ushering in the new year and hopefully, some fireworks too.

  29. “Good thing for the darkness. Less chance of seeing wrinkles and crows feet”.

Absolutely. So the chances of seeing folks wriggling & writhing in ecstatic pain will therefore be proportionately higher as the gals’ feet keep kicking crows in the air…..arrgh, arrgh, arrgh……………………………..arrrrrrrrgh chiiiiiiu ! Alamak, caught a cold liao.

  30. Ya ya, Tim. lucky you caught a cold just in time or your comment would have been censored eh?
I hope you are at least enjoying the break away from work. Take it as a break to replenish your energy. You can spend more time with your daughter too. Hopefully, the new year will bring you something new and better.
Well, I’m going to bed now. Sleepy already.
    Good night all.

  31. MaryC,

So nice, 10:00pm and you’re yawning already. I was just in touch with Roland to work out arrangements for the New Year’s Eve countdown. Watch out for further details from him later today.

  32. Hi Roland and John,

I appreciate your efforts to bring cheer to SHC. On seeing #34, I suddenly sense and feel the excitement of seeing two men working together to make plans for the New Year’s eve countdown. Many SHC members will appreciate it.

Well done; and we look forward to the surprise soon.
