  1. Hi Terence,

I posted at 2greendots on 21/12 and it remained as draft till yesterday (26/12). Today I don’t see the draft, but the post is not published. I wonder what went wrong.

There was no ‘publish’ button when I first wrote so I chose ‘save’. Please advise. Thank you.

    Regards,
    JassmineT

  2. Hi Jassmine,

If I remember, you were trying to sell some items. Direct selling of items is not allowed. You are encouraged to use 2GreenDots.com which has been set up for SilverHairsClub use.

    Hope this clarifies.

    Terence

  3. Hi Terence

I’m a little confused. I chose the category “2Greendots (items for sale)” for my post.

The magazines I put up for sale are reflected in the shopping mall, but without publicity, I think they will outlive their shelf lives.

Appreciate a clarification of the category mentioned. Thanks.

  4. Hi Jassmine,

As you get more faniliar with this forum, the “Publish” button will appear.

We do have requests to sell items on this forum. However, it is in our rules that direct selling of items is not permitted on this forum. We may change the rules in the future, but definitely not for now. I hope you appreciate this standpoint.

  5. Don’t worry Jasmine.

I don’t sell anything here. Actually, on record I am rather critical of sellers in this forum. For example, I snipe at supplements and bogus “get rich” schemes at every turn. I also should be very familiar to this forum being quite a prolific contributor. And I still don’t get the automatic “Publish” button.

On the other hand, I am not a fan of censorship or any form of filtering. It is a very sad day for our society. Why can’t we even trust an elder to think critically on a given posting in a forum?

Exposure makes us strong. We learn from experience, our failures, trials and tribulations. Overprotection makes us vulnerable. Soon we cannot tell friend from foe; hunter from prey. We will lose the ability to dicriminate.

Is our protector doing us harm or good?

  6. Hi KT,

This time, I am under the same mango tree, as a year ago. Heard a beep from my PDA, and saw your comment. Your last comment was automatically published. Like everyone, you have the “Publish” button. I guess if there is a delay, it maybe because you have included an URL link which is usually checked.

Subject to club taboos, most posts and comments are published.

  7. Hi KT

    1. I’m not sure if your response is to my point about the lack of publicity for items placed in 2greendots as I don’t see a direct link. I also do not see anyone offering supplements and ‘get rich’ schemes in 2greendots. But your revelation about the ‘publish’ button did bring some comfort.

    2. Critical reading skills (prerequisites for critical thinking were not taught in schools when the elderly were in school, therefore there is doubt about their critical thinking ability.

    3. Exposure or lack of it, both camps have to pay a price to “tell friend from foe, hunter from prey” because we would like to believe “All men are brothers”

    4. My short answer to your last question is: good. On balance, I see more good than bad because we are a little red dot.

    Have a good weekend.

  8. Hi, KT (#5):

Like you, I find censorship or filtering (moderation) of forums quite distasteful, particularly when it is carried out to the extreme. However, there are valid reasons for forums to have ‘rules’, and moderation is applied to individual members who do not adhere to these ‘rules’.

Most forums that I am or have been a member of have some minimal ‘rules’ at least. Among other objectives, these ‘rules’ serve to ensure that proper etiquette is observed and the purpose/subject matter of the respective forums are not lost sight of.

These ‘rules’ are ‘no sweat’ to the majority of forum members who are largely sensitive and responsible individuals. However, we have to be mindful that not all individuals are that sensitive or responsible, and all it takes is one such mindless individual to cause a flame war, disrupt the forum, causing members to leave, and even result in once popular forums degenerating to the point of inactivity.

Compared to some of the forums I have been a member of over the last dozen or more years, the ‘rules’ of this forum is not unduly restrictive. The ‘rules’ (more like guidelines to me) serve to remind members to avoid topics that have the potential to be contentious, controversial, self-serving and raise one’s blood pressure. The last definitely not good for members of a geezer club. :o)

It’s like having some laws in a country. Most of the citizenry go about their daily lives without a second’s thought or fear of breaking some law and getting into trouble (well, in most countries, anyway). Only those bent on mischief need to worry about such things.

Okay, I know I ‘talk’ to much. So I shall shut up now.

    Cheers,

  9. Good, thoughtful, all-considered discussion. Daggers, xiao li fei dou, boomerangs, scythe flying but all plastic ones so everyone is heard but no one gets hurt.

Frankly, while my school tried to teach me many things, I am glad that I chose to learn nothing except to read & write.

So respect for authority/establishment bcos it’s up there was nonsensical to me since many took the path of treachery to seize power and instal themselves, never knew when to let go & knocked you senseless when yr eyes started to mist with doubt at what they claimed were done for your good.

This brings to mind the silly dramas dished out for mass consumption. Teach them to be kiasi, kiasu, weaken their resolve & fighting spirit, divert their attentio to the flesh & what money can buy, and they’ll make a compliant lot easy to lord over…………..the ploy is thin if you can see thru it.

    Back to the focus.

We arent a druids’ lodge. We arent saint but we do carry the experience that the young of today are probably deprived off. Which means that we do have a lot to say, and say them within the few OB markers which are fair and fairly laid down for all to read & adhere to.

Let a 1,000 flowers bloom. There’s no need for the broom.

    Your points addressed
1 Your favorite Wonder Food and Wealth merchants lurks in tall grasses and murky waters. Not in sterile 2G Dot. Try beating the grass elsewhere.
2 How can you critic perfection? Look for imperfections elsewhere please.
3 To paraphase George Orwell’s Animal Farm “All men are brothers. Some men are more brotherly than others”.
4 The balance tilts for Big Brother.

  11. Tim @ #9

No need for broom. There is the wet and dry vac. No more dust on the wall and piss on the floor.

But they still can’t take away the fart in the air. The last Right of Man.

  12. KT @ #11:

As in most forums, the forum administrator/owner. Members may of course, express their opinion with regards to the way a forum is administered, but the final decision belongs to the forum administrator/owner (or the higher authority of the organisation behind him/her, if there is one).

The forum runs the risk of becoming inactive if the forum administrator/owner/authority chooses not to consider the majority views of forum members and continues to run the forum the way he/she likes. I know of situations where unhappy members of a forum leave to start a parallel forum of their own!

Not trying to stir up a rebellion – just stating the reality of the situation :o)

  13. Hi KT

    1. ‘sterile 2G Dot’ Hope Terence read this.

    2. ‘critic perfection’? Did I? It’s futile to critic ideals. I’m surprised you didn’t pick up the tongue-in-cheek tone.

    3. You pay a price to learn who are less brotherly to you.

    4. The balance tilted in my favour. I must not forget to show filial piety.

    Happy New Year.
