Monthly Walk: 12th April (Sat) PipeLine Ramble I

Leaders:
Jeffrey Lim & ChristinaCL Chan

Date:    12
April 2008

(Saturday)

Trail:    PipeLine
Ramble I

from Outram Park mrt / Pearl’s Hill ending at Farrer Road (Holland Road/Queensway)

Start Time: we shall start the walk at 4.00pm sharp! Do plan to arrive punctually.

Duration: approx 3 hours.

Meeting Point: MRT Station: Outram, Street Level. (East/West Line exit along Outram Road, not the NE line exit).

"Most
of you would know that a water pipeline runs from Johor to
Singapore but have anybody thought to trace
the route?
I was told
for robust walkers, the entire trail of approx 21 km will take approx 8 to
9hours!emoticon

For us, “leisure
walkers”, this exciting, challenging trail will be introduced in 3 separate
segments.  Each part of the route has a
different terrain and each opens up a part of
Singapore seldom seen.

The 1st
segment shall be from
Pearl‘s Hill to Farrer Road, approx 7 km.

With a good
pace, it could be covered in approx 3 hours; hence, the need to start off
punctually!

The terrain
is
undulating – ups and downs but not much
steps.  It is not the “usual walk in the
park”; it is exploratory; think of it as a Mini Trek! There will be some rough
sections.

This 1st
segment will end at
Farrer Road (near to Holland Road/Queensway,
not Bukit Timah).

As usual we
shall end the walk by having dinner and more fellowship together .  emoticon

However, the renovation
works of the nearby food centre might be still on-going.

Suggest to
dine at a nearby restaurant which h
as good food at quite reasonable cost —

Westlake
Restaurant,
Blk
4 Queen’s Road  #02-139,
Singapore 260004, prior reservation
might be necessary.

Register
here. (Do indicate whether you wish to join us for dinner at
Westlake).

Note: Buses plying along Farrer Road: 93, 153, 165, 174, 186, 855 and 961 (check it out!)

Till then,

JeffreyLim & ChristinaCL
Chan

Stay
cool!  Be cool!

  1. Heee, of cos everyone knew what Chris meant.. in that context, WFP has to mean “I’ll go along with you” (more friendly version) or “you kill my chick I kill yr gander, goose & gosling (hostile version).

Yes 2mrw I’ll be on a mission to save the fish and mate the mermaids……….

  2. #87 TimL…. horrigible ;)

AnnTo: please ignore TimL #87 blame it on my fingers or migraine whatever.. it should be “wo foong pei” Hope this time I’ve got it right, nvm tmr TimL will be out of town phew! heehee

  3. “….‘wo fung pei’ hor Stay cool; Be cool……..” Wow, Chris, you really the can, i cant.

After farting, I wd be staring at my own nose, flushed with blushes and pray hard that the stink doesnt sting but you dare to announce it with a hor somemore and then stay cool………….

  4. #85 yo AnnToHo,
having terrible migraine again today dun noe if it is due to my abstinence from coffee the past 3 weeks (this is the 1st time I’ve stopped taking coffee for so long! my cough was bad, doc said better stop caffeine intake for a while, but it is quite awhile lor) so cant think str… wat ‘manpower’ are u referring to? you mean more men in the walk this time or wat; the more the merrier both sxes heehee…can we take this offline, email me ok ;)

wah pianz ‘Amazing RAce’ got meh probably wrong thread, dear. Walk in the park; brisk walk; disco dancing, ‘wo fung pei’ hor :D
    Stay cool; Be cool hahaahha

  5. Hi Chris & Jeffrey,

With the Pipeline Ramble I, you have brought us one step further from the “usual walk in the park”. Thanks much, the “mini trek” was exciting. There was an increase in “manpower” during this walk, am I right?

Just a thought, will we see an improvised “Amazing Race” in the SHC…soon..or sometime in near future?

    Looking forward,

  6. #79 Christina

Thank you for your comments. I am really a bit tired after the walk, but I really enjoyed the company of all the friendly people.

Listening to you five girls (during dinner)talking about dancing and are so happy about it makes me feel young, it is very unfortunate that I cannot join in the fun you all have,

    Regards

    King Seng

  7. Dear Christina,

#78 Maybe you are right. Subconsciously, being out for two long hours without her might have caused the fainting spells! So how, for our future walks? /o/

    Robert

  8. It had poured earlier but we started off with good weather! It was cloudy ie., the sun aint shining ;)

We walked on different terrains which gave some stretch but were easy on our legs, passed some beautiful houses, lanes which we might never ever passed through… all in all interesting!

Though we had to back track a couple of times as the trail was curtailed due to new developments and/or defunct routes. Hence,
    To All who came:
Thank you for being so accommodating!

We are most encouraged by the feedback. So, as JeffreyL #75 had mentioned, between us, we shall recce the rest of the trail. Be assured, we shall complete the 3 segments!
    #77 Thanks TimL :)

Look forward to your participation in all our walks!

  9. #72 KS Lee,

glad you finish the walk and joined us for dinner even though I know you felt a little tired… steady leh

Look forward to having you in our monthly walks every 2nd Saturday/month!

  10. Yalor hor, how to walk fr Pearl’s Hill to Farrer Park without the help of the lollipop man unless you wanna dash thru killer traffic but with ChrisC, I know she is very the can, after watching all 3 trilogies of Spiderman………over to you, Chris.

  11. Hi Jeffrey and Christina

Just wonder if you can let me know how is the route like as I was not able to join the 12 April walk, went instead for the cycling to Pengerrang. How do we walk from Pearl’s Hill to Farrer Road?

    Thanks

  12. Good to hear that you all enjoyed this ‘mini-trek’. Christina and I are planning installment no.2 So look out for it. As it will be heading out of the city into the ulu, it would be more interesting.

  13. Chritina & Jeffrey

I read alot of msg for thanking u two for making this trip a successful one and everyone enjoyed it very much. Sally, Pauline and myself look forward to the 2nd & 3th part of this pipeline walk.

    See u

    Karen

  14. Dear Christina/Jeffrey,

Thanks for organizing this FUNtastic walk – very challenging and exciting.

You took me back to the place where I grew up to enjoy my nostalgic walk. The flat that I used to live in was no longer there and the short cut I used to walk to school was on the water pipeline which runs from Johor to S’pore – I din realize it until yesterday.

Jeffrey, the trail reminds me of our good old hash days when we hashers got to back track every now and then if there were no thru roads otherwise we just dash thru the obstacles. Got to remind ourselves that we are now in SHC and not HHH hor. Hehehe…………

Chris, if you ask me to grade the walk, I will up my both thumbs – Good, good, good……………..

Looking forward to completing the other 2 segments of the pipeline. ON! ON!

    veronique

  15. Hi Jeffrey and Christina,

Thank you for all your eforts in organising the walk.

I really enjoyed the whole journey. I enjoyed sitting for dinner with so many youn ladies who are so happy and lively.

  16. Hello Robert,

You met your long lost neighbour, Charles Chua. I understand your sentiment, I also found my long lost classmate, Linda Tan thru the SHC forum. Hello Linda, hope you doing fine, have not heard from you quite sometime, come and join us at the monthly gathering this Wed at Hans cafe leh. Chris, pardon me for calling Linda on this Walking thread, sori hor….see you all on Wed. :)

    Ah Nee

  17. Hi Robert #66, actually the gift is meant to be given to Kristy to make you wear it during feeding time.

Kristy, from now on you need not to clean the mess on Robert’s shirt after each meal. Hehehe…..

  18. Hi Charles Chua,

I had a very pleasant surprise to have met you again after about 20 years since we were neighbours at Jalan Melor. I must say we had a good time catching up with lost time. Hope to see you again in the next walk or sooner in any of the many SHC activities.

    Robert

  19. Hi Christina,

My apology for aborting my walk after two hours as I was suddenly taken by fainting spells. Thank you for being understanding. I did enjoy the walk and fellowship. In addition I made a few new friends. I will try to sleep before 5 am for the next walk.

    Robert

  20. Hi Andrew,

My next act will include you as one of the main actors. So do you still look forward to it or do you now want to wait until next year? See you on Thursday at CSC.

    Robert

  21. Hi Veron,

Thank you for the surprise baby gift. Sorry I was unable to use it at the dinner last night as I was indisposed. However, Kristy was tickled by it and she was more than satisfied when I was able to finish my dinner without her having to clean me up. /o/

    Robert

  22. Dear Robert at #61

We shall give you ample opportunities when we meet for Karaoke on Thursday, 24 April at The CSC.

Waiting for 3rd SHC D&D is just to far away !

    Cheers,

    KYL, Andrew

  23. Hi Jeffrey and Christina,
Thanks again for the effort you put in for yesterday’s walk. I am looking forward to the next section.

I also enjoyed the dinner last night after the walk. See you then.

  24. Jeffrey & Christina

Thanks for organizing the walk. Since this is the first in a “trilogy”, I’m waiting for the second and third part of it eagerly.

    Hi Peggy

Finally meet you and your husband in the walk (nearly two months). Like to say “Hi” in here to both of you again. See you both in the next event.

  25. Dear Robert at #58

What is this Japanese communal togetherness, with or without geisha(s)for nature call?

How is it, like to demonstrate just like you did so wonderfully during 2nd D & D?

Will be all ears, eyes, palms, feet and mouth.

    Hurrah!!!!! and encore.

  26. Hi Christina,

Kristy’s pain problem is chronic and will take quite some time to heal. She has already promised her teenage son, Nicholas, to have a cooking session togather for dinner. See, the things they do behind my back!

    Robert

  27. Hi Andrew,

You have given me an idea. Yes, if we have a group having a ‘nature’s call’ problem, we can do the Japanese style – communal togetherness. Naughty, naughty me! /o/

    Robert

  28. Hi Lina @ 21,

“Are you that dashing young guy I was talking to on the bus at the Bt. Gombak walk? You work at the MRT control stations?”

I am sorry to disappoint you but you have the wrong person.I wish I can say it was me but alas, no.

BTW is there a change if it is raining? Can the EO comment?

    Thanks

  29. #55 GraceW,

gosh..sure sound painful! Thanks for info and you need not feel apologetic :) You rest well and take care GBU c you somewhere sometime.

    Warm Regards, ChristinaCL

  30. hi christina,

    grace w.

  31. Dear RobertQ,

#51 look forward to more creativity from ‘the guy from the Land of Cherry Blossoms’
sure glad you chose the PipeR instead of the cherry blossoms which is in bloom now, I suppose ;)

Kristy, if you are well enuf, do come! Otherws, hmmmm… dun noe wat we gals will be up to hor :D How abt dine with us at Westlake also can mah

  32. Dear Christina,

Thanks for the suggestion and warning. I’ll brainstorm and come up with some innovative & creative solutions.

    Robert

  33. Dear RobertQ,

boleh lah, surely no issue for guys! GBU. Juz go to the bushes or open an umbrella, only 1 thing lookout for the ‘security’ cam. :D

  34. Thanks Christina,

2 – 3 hours boleh tahan lah and should be able to control otherwise blow the whistle and all the gals will close their eyes. You can never tell, some guys like me may have prostate problems! /o/

    Robert

  35. #45 Hi JohnS,

it’s been a while huh. You are right, thanks for highlighting that point!
I seldom use the NE Line, so did’nt think about that… haahha

  36. Hi Christina,

I wld like to join you for the walk and dinner.

Guess meeting point is the East/West line exit at Outram Stn, not NorthEast line exit.

    Rgds.

  37. Dear RobertQ,
your estimation is correct. Though it is a mini trek and being the 1st time we are walking 7km, I’ve included an hour more as I think it would be good to walk at a leisure pace, enjoy the nature around us.

    NB:
    1) There might be security cameras.
    2) there are no allocated facilities for ‘loo’ breaks. So, 2 to 3hours boleh tahan hor. :D

  38. Dear VW, was about to fone you. I remembered you mentioned you will be away in July not April leh. Well, it is a good we are all busy heeheee C ya!

  39. Hi Kristin/Venika, yea! I was wondering… how could you miss this ‘mini trek’ being so active hhahaha Btw, will both of you join us for dinner at Westlake?

  40. Hi Christina,

May I have an idea as to the route we are taking as I wish to know if we are walking along the main roads or tracks if any? Will we be seeing any exposed huge water pipes from JB. If the distance is about 7km, my own estimation is that we can complete the whole walk in about 2 hours instead of 3. The rate of casual walk is about 4 km per hour.

    Robert

  41. Hi LeeKS #34 warm welcome! No worries, we shall keep pace with you.

#36 Hi RobertQ, it’s alright… it happens at times to all :D

    C u guys!

  42. Hi Christina & Jeffrey,

May we have a rough idea of the route we are taking from Outram to Farrer Road and a list of names of confirmed participants please? Thanks for your well wishes for Kristy’s recovery.

    Robert

  43. Hi Jeffrey & Christina

Thank you for putting so much effort to organise the walk.

#30 AnnToHo {smile} saw myself so relac next to you at DnD… thought of you how come didnt see your name intend to call you.. glad to c you have registered!

#31 have not seen you gals some time, thought of sending an email.. welcome to the adventure! Hey, join us for dinner too leh, Though it is a mini trek, am sure you will be famished and tired!

  46. Enjoy, while another 24 of us cycle at Pengarang and feast in Johore.

Remember you folks in prayers for safety and all the fun and fellowship.

    Excellent health and contentment!

  47. Hi CharlesC, AliceS, AndrewY, KarenT, SallyK, PaulineK, thanks for your updates.

    #10 RobertQ: ain’t Kristy coming for walk+dinner?

#6 GraceW – glad you are joining us again. Will you join us for dinner, too? Pls update.

    #7 Manomani, what about you?

    TQ ChristinaCL Chan

  48. Hi ChristinaCL / Jeffrey,

Veronique Lee and I would like to join in the Pipeline walk. Please register us and include us in the Westlake dinner too.

Thanks for organising this new adventure!

  49. Hi Charles Chua,

Are you that dashing young guy I was talking to on the bus at the Bt. Gombak walk? You work at the MRT control stations?

Why only join in the walks? Come join us for cycling and other activities.

  50. Dear All,

thanks for your registrations, be assured it has been noted. :D It is good to register so we the EOs know how many are coming.

PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL, as need to start on time hor.

Please do 1 more thing — indicate whether you want to have dinner at Westlake (this is to facilitate reservations as it is a Saturday. Besides, I have not visited for many years not sure if they have more tables or if they have any other function). Thanks much.

I am swarmed with work (nothing new hahahaha) but more so as next week is very crucial. Hence, it is likely I will not be able 2 response individually, pls accept my apologies.

I will address those who needs help/info:
#7 Manomani, as highlighted by Dolly, do firm up your participation.
    (Thx much, Dolly #8 & 16).

#9 Karen, Pauline & Sally – sure remember you gals ;) Just register in this thread & indicate you want dinner or not.
ps: sorrie that your registration as member happened a wee too late & could not come for our DnD.

Quick quick register… it might be quite a while before we repeat this special trail as we have 2 more segments to go heeehehehe

    TQ, ChristinaCL

ps: why the last couple of lines of my post were being “underlined”? I am baffled!

  51. Hi Dolly ,Chris n Jeffrey ,

I am NOT putting a blame on anyone.

Just think it would be better if it was updated so that the planner will not clash with the walking activity. If it was blank, planner would assume that there is no activity on that particular Sat.

Thanks Dolly for yr kind explanation.

  52. Steven,
Not dat, Chris dun want 2 update the calendar lah.. it was me unable to update rite now due to the fact dat my laptop was infected wif virus thus nid to reformat so the calendar software update is lost in-transit, I am in mid of updating but as usual hv couple of teething issues to be resolved rite now. Pls be patient, ok…

Sorry, Chris, you hv to get the blame for my fault.. paiseh paisseh…

  53. Hi Christina n Jeffrey,

    Just a suggestion:-

You mention that walking will be held on every 2nd.Sat of the month but it is not indicated on the SHC calendar unlike cycling or other activities.

Could either one of you pls indicate in the SHC calendar so that anyone who wants to plan any activities for members are aware of the “BLOCKED” events and wil not clash with any preconceived events.

    Thanks.

  54. Hi Christina & Jeffrey,

I would like to join all of you for this walk and dinner at Westlake Restaurant. Can you please register me?

    Charles C

  55. Christina – This is Karen here (Pauline & Sally friend). At last I managed to logged into this website to comment (haha)

“Usual Walk in the park” is there a park that link all the way from Pearl Hill to Farrer???

Belive part of the walking will be along the road??

Do members have to registered themselve or I can do it for the other 2 member – Sally & Pauline. Please let me know and I will revert to them.

    Karen

  56. Hi Christina, will join u guys.Must experience this interesting pipeline ramble. Thanks for coming up with this innovative idea.
    grace wong

  57. Hi Christina /walkists,

Perhaps as all of you walk,
    eyes open,
    ears open,
you all could also help to “sniff” out Mas Selamat as well and also get your $ 50 000 reward.

The reward can be used to throw a GRAND party makan for all first 50 registered SHcians at the Island Country club. Have fun!

  58. thanks ChristinaC and JeffreyL,
this Walk alongside the water pipe is something new we have never done before. Glad you both came out with this idea. Congrats.

  59. Hi StevenC, perhaps only you might be able to do so heehee I consider you as one of the regular walkists, are aware that Monthly Walks are scheduled on 2nd Sat since 2007. Enjoy your ride. Will surely miss you. See you next walk.

    Thanks, ChristinaCL

  60. Hi Christina Chan,

12th April clashes with our Pengarang bicycle ride in Johore.

Can’t possibly split my body for walk and cycle at the same time.

Is it possible for you to arrange on another Sat?
