Vincent Khoo initiates Thailand orientation trip

A brainstorm meeting was held on Wed 11 Jan 2006 at Atrium Orchard, Dhoby Ghout MRT. Present:  Evelyn, Ann, Vincent Khoo, Ronald Lee, KC Lau and Terence.  Patrick Ang and Richard Kwok participated briefly.

The group looked at short term stays, with a target of SGD 500 – 600 per month, covering shared rental and food. Other topics include retirement village, comparing with retirement homes in Singapore at SGD 1,000 per month. Living costs were discussed, and while it sounded cheaper to stay for short periods, there was general agreement that most will consider Singapore their real home.

There was strong interest to organise short "no frills" travel to see and understand Thailand’s culture and opportunities.  Other interests include organising meetings with International hospitals.

Vincent takes the lead, and a Thailand trip "No fills" has been organised.  The date and time is set for March 21, 2006, Tuesday 12 noon to March 27, 2006, Monday 12 noon.  SilverHairs to organise their own air tickets.

Only 8 persons can join this program.  To take part, simply add your name, by putting a comment to this posting.  Based on first come basis.

  1. Hi Guys
Many esp myself was unable to attend the meeting because of time factor. I appreciate that Terence sent me a invitation. It would be nice if a talk can be organise to delve on living in thailand. Terence and the retired school teacher can give a informal presentation. We would like the KNOW HOW AND WHERE OF THAILAND.many have more questions than answers and this sort of sessions will be very informative. i am keen to join your tour group but time is not convenient now.Terence is very correct to bring you to thailand and away from the tourist destination. To know and feel THAI and the who where and why.Look forward to a TALK

  2. Chow Weng,
As most of you know, I am in Thailand on Saturday and Sunday most of the year. I shall take note of your request. Either vincent or myself will organise a session again.

  4. Maria Tan has confirmed trip.

I sent you an sms yesterday abt the trip but did not get any response. Have you changed your handphone number.

I am going to book the airticket for BKK today. As I did not hear from Vincent, I just wanted to know if the trip is confirmed on. There is a special promotion at Jetair, this promotion ends on 27 Jan. Can u sms or call me as I would like to book ticket today on flight same as Ann. If the group is less than 8, will this trip be cancelled.

  5. Hi All,
For those going to BKK and have yet to book your tickets. As of today, best budget flights available (suiting our program) are – JetStar Asia with total cost of $202 for return trip or Air Asia at $178. Note that Air Asia’s flight arrival into BKK is 1215 hours assuming no delay. I’m going to book on JetStar since the other ladies are or have done likewise. Hope this infor will help.

  6. This just a feedback on our trip to Chonburi, Thailand from Mar 21-27. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday. With the help of Vincent Khoo, it was really an eye opener for Evelyn, Ann and myself to see the local Thai way of life. Accommodation, food and lifestyle is cheap and simple. Only setback is the weather at the time is hot hot hot!! We mingled with the locals and vendors at the beach, visited temples, wet markets, supermart/shopping centres like BigC and Tesco, had a couple of Thai body massages (ouch!) and seafood dinners (@S$5pp only) Lunch at foodcourt costs around S$1.60 (Bh40), cheaper at coffeeshops. This confirms Vincent’s claim that retiring in Thailand is alot more cheaper than here. Many thanks to Vincent Khoo and Terence Seah for making this trip possible.
