Riding Passion: SHCians Go HIR!

Wanna know where the 6 crazy SHCians were last night from 10pm – 5am?  We embarked on a "60Km: Half Island Ride" from 28 June – 29 June.

We cycled from ECP MacD – Fort Rd – Nicholl Highway – Shenton Way – Telok Blangah Rd -passed by VIVO city and reached Labrador Park at 11:45pm for break.  At 12am, we proceeded to West Coast Highway – Jalan Buroh – Jurong Port Rd.  We arrived Yuan Ching MacD at 1:30am and took a 20-30m break.

About 2am, we moved on to Boon Lay Way – Ulu Pandan Park Connector, passed by Jurong East Central – Clementi – Commonwealth Ave – Alexandra Rd – Havelock Rd – Eu Tong Sen – Victoria Street.  We rested at nearby Allson Hotel.

We journeyed on our last segment from Victoria Street – Nicoll Highway – Stadium Rd – Tg Rhu completing the ride back to ECP MacD with the first batch landed their firing bum at 4:45am.

Throughout the 60km+ journey, we have had a mixture of feelings – fear, excitement and ultimately, the adrenaline of a new challenge.  We were riding alongside vehicles along the busy hubs, highways and were treated to the night sights and sounds of Singapore.

To feel the wind rushing against our faces was an unforgettable experience and together with the good companionship of SHCian cyclists, it was indeed a treat away from our normal hectic and stressful lifestyle.  To top it off, we were blessed with a breezy and cooling night weather which made the ride all the more memorable.  It was a ride forever etched in our memories.

Despite some of us have initial doubts about our BODY and SOUL adjustment. No doubt, we SHCians have proven  that we are still able to keep up with the stamina and stay awake!  In fact, we did it with much enthusiasm and rewarded with a thrill experience!

So, Comrades! Are you still game to join me for the next biggest challenge of "Round Island Ride of 120km?

  3. Hi Esther #4

For this night cycling, we will use the Eastern Coastal Park Connectors so we will not be riding on the road

The routes for E.C.P Connectors are as follows: McDonald ECP-Changi Village-Pasir Ris Downtown East,- Tampines Park connector, Bedok Reservoir PC and back to ECP McDonald.

The distance is about 45km and it will take about 4 hours to complete, we will have 1-2 rest stops

    regards

  4. Hi Kathryn

Welcome to our cycling club, do continue and join us in all our long distance cycling activities even though you prefer skating over cycling.

I survived the 60km night cycling not because of the long distance but because I managed to be awake throughout the night. I was wondering, what the hack am I cycling in Jurong at 2-3am. I should have been in bed. hahaha. but with the 6 die hard cyclists, the fun never ends.

  5. Hi June

The 60km night cycling was done last saturday. we started from McDonald ECP around 10pm(delayed)and back at McDonald at 4.45am.

we had 3 stops along the way.
    1st stop at Labrador park,
2nd stop somewhere in Jurong around 2am, can’t remember because I was too sleepy to know why I was in Jurong.
    3rd stop near CHIJMES

The 120km will be held on 30/31Aug and it covers the whole island.

  6. Mmmmm…the nite whn 50 odd people in blue jeans are dancing the nite away….!!..hey how abt stopping by Oxford..:-))
So if 60 km is from 10 pm till 4.45 am, then 120 km will be from 10 pm till 10 am based on simple arithmetic!!!!..:-)))Ambitious!! :-))
And the next one will be 180 km?

  7. Hi June

Wish we could pass by Oxford Hotel and rest our feet on the ground but the route is down Nicoll Highway, Shenton Way, Keppel Rd,T,Blangah Rd…..Jurong Pier Rd.

  10. Dear Adventurer cyclists,

The night cycling scheduled for 26 July is now postponed.

The SHAG (Silverhairs Adventure Group) is detouring to another destination on the same day.

    Details will follow by email.

Thank you for your support and note the changes here.

    Cheers

    Douglas & Rene

  11. Is SHAG part of SHC? or is it another group altogether? Can anyone join the SHAG? The 26 Jul nite cycling is postponed so will the new date be posted in the forum?

  12. Dear June Lim, Ah Nee, Karen Thio and Esther Leong,

Sori for not replying your comments earlier. It was an oversight from both Douglas and I. Thanks to a kind SHCian who highlighted to me.

Ah Nee @12 and Karen Thio @4 (from the adjusted HIR post)
The other 3 cyclists were Kathryn Lee, Joyce Tan and Wie Ah Beng.

Esther Leong @6 (from the adjusted HIR post)
    HIR means Half Island Ride!

    June Lim @15
SHAG is one the the rib taken out from SHC. SHAG is non-exclusive and is open to all SHCians. For fun sake, it is just a name to identify ourselves (those using a lot of footwork, love doing adventurous sports regularly like long distance cycling, trekking, hiking, camping, caving, rafting, power walks….)

Watch out for the next date very soon…PIP (plan in progress)

    Cheers
    Rene
