  1. Hi Ron and Alice

Thanks so much for the info. It would be wonderful to be there and enjoy watching the various dances. Will try to join you and Alice for some of the dances.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  2. Hi Agnes

Thanks for your quick response, the memories of Alice and I having met you for the first time at Bali Lane, during the talk given by Terence, still linger in our mind.

It will be nice to meet up with you again at the Esplanade for the dance sessions. Nearer to the date will let you know which dances will be most appropriate to participate.

  3. Hi all,

What a wonderful selection of dances for us to appreciate!
I’ll defintely be there for some of the events, esp the
    Latin’s.

By the way, pls note Oct 15 is our monthly gathering event.
For the 1st time ever, we are going to have our own dance
performances. This should complement the programs at Esplanade adn add more excitement to the dance scene.

I’ll be sending out a circular shortly.

    Stay tune.

  4. Hi JamesT & MaryC

The most interesting of the whole programme should be Latin and Ballroom dances. The Latin comprises Cha Cha, Jive and Samba performances by youth champions at 6.00 – 6.45pm. The Latin Cha Cha, Rumba and Paso Doble performances also by top Australian Latin American Professional Champions.

The Waltz and Rumba workshops will also be done by the Australian Champions.

Non-stop ballroom and social dance music by top DJ to party the night away.

    See all of you there.

  5. Up there it asks ” “DANCE FEVER – WHAT’S YOUR MOVE?”

    I say, it’s all wrong.

When you have a fever, dont dance. When you have a dance fever, dont move.

If not, then it really is a case of “See all of you there”……………..18 storeys below.

  6. Hi Ron,

Anything pertaining to dances, I want to be there. Hope to attend all the sessions. Ballrooms and Rock n Roll are my favourites!

Except for Friday,we will meet together for more fun!

  7. Hi Tim Tai Loh

Really got you in high fever, to reduce the fever, come and join us, we’ll definitely see that your fever go away, hehe.

    RonLai

  8. Ron taikor Tai Loh, Alexabder of Macedonia had fever and he danced, he went kaput. Heeee, no thanks, me not great like Alex so me no dance but still can play football. Maybe I shd start a thread on football and get all SCHians kicking the ball in preparation for the final match of kicking the other “b” eventually. It is clear that if one cant kick a ball well, one will be awkward kicking the bucket, getting his foot stuck in it, unable to break free and hanging halfway btwn nirvana and a banana branch……..

  9. Hi Ron and Alice

The meeting and karaoke are still very fresh and repeating in my mind. I really had an enjoyable time meeting the friendly SHC members especially you and Alice. I had a very lovely conversation with you and found out we have the similar background and interest, beening peranakans, love of dancing and singing.

Looking forward to join some of the members for the Rock Heart Concert on 16 Aug.

Please do advise on the dances that are appropriate for. Rock & roll and jive (can only watch) are my favourites,

    Cheers
    Agnes

  10. Hi Ron & Alice,

Thank you for keeping us inform of this dance event. Will be there, killing 2 birds with 1 stone, ie. meeting all the SHCians and also new members who recently joined and utmost have fun.

Pls count me in Ron, thks!

Hi Ron / Terence, I have got another dance fever on the 19th Oct 2008 at the Esplande. How to include in the post?

Pls count me in Ron, thks!

Hi James, u are in the list but not me. Pls don leave out your partner.

  11. Hi Ron,

Pertaining to the #11, I think we are referring to the same event on the 19th Oct 2008 at the Esplande Open Courtyard.

    Hi all,

This event was organized by one of my dance instructor last year & this year he was again invited to organise the same on the 19th Oct. Highlights of the event are the professional champions from Australia, David Byrnes & Karla Gerbes, performance by 10 Dance Youth Champions. I have attended David Byrnes’s workshop before.

    Is value for $.

    Don’t miss it!

  12. Hi Agnes

Since you are all game for Rock n Roll & Jive, and it seems you like hot dances, then for a start you can go for Rock n Roll (which is 6 steps), and later Jive (which is
8 steps), as Jive is faster than Rock n Roll.

    RonLai

  13. Hi Susan

Glad to know that you are joining us, as James is your partner, both of you will be sure “in steps”.

If I am not wrong, I have had met your dance instructor last year. I did organised a group of Silverhairs to the dance show, and he was promoting his dance classes then. I do not want to mention his name in this forum (as I will be promoting), but the initial is “JL”, am I correct? He had sent me pamphlets for this year’s show, most probably we’ll meet him in person. The date you mentioned on 19th Oct is the same, i.e. strictly ballroom.

    RonLai

  14. Ron-L, I hv reconsider yr invit to danze and will now agree to do the Rock n Roll with you. I let you do the easy part i.e. I pasang………….I throw the rocks, you roll. If I hit you, I win but you dont lose anythg. But for every miss, I pay you $1.

I am sure our rock n roll will gain popularity very soon, and who knows, on National Day, instead of the Peoples Rep doing the hip hop, they might be turned on to throw rocks and roll, esp when there are so called oppositions in the ranks………….

  15. #13

    Hi Ron

I love rock and roll as it is lively and bring back the memories of Bill Hailey and the Comet. Songs like See you Aligator, Rock Around the Clock among others. I could lead rock and roll but prefer to be led. Would like to try the Jive. Not able to learn ballroom dancing as it would require a partner. I hope that I’m able to do so in the near future. Am looking forward to join you and Alice with the SHC members in the dance activities.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  16. Hi Ron,

referring to #14, you ae absolutely right. Maybe we were together at last year’s festival but do not know each other. This year, will be on the lookout for you.

    See u there!

  17. Dear Ron and Alice,

Is this the same dance festival that a group of us attended last year? The open-air short dance course that was conducted free of charge for the public?

Will try to join in for Latin and Bollywood boogie if I can. Are you going for most of the dance programmes?

    Thanks for the info!

  18. Hi Catherine

Yes, last year the Dance Festival was held at the open stage @powerhouse next to the food centre, where they taught the Salsa steps for free. This year is being held at the newly opened “Open Courtyard” (Forecourt).

Participants for this year’s show, please see my #5 n Susan’s #12, closure to the date will see which dances are more popular.

    RonLai

  19. Hi Ron.

Pls count me in for this dance event. Pls let me know the date & time @ meeting place. Anything to do with music, esp dance & sing, i’ll put it on my top priority to attend. Will even take leave from work to attend, if necessary! Thanks for organising.

    Cheers, Lydia.

  20. Hi Gwyneth

Great to have you with us, there are many dances performing at the showcase for the night at the Esplanade, hopefully there will be some demonstrations as well.

    RonLai

  21. Hi Ron & Alice

Thanks for organizing the Dance Festival. It will be a pleasure to dance and watch some demonstration as well. By “Open Courtyard” do you mean the open cement space at the Esplanade?

    Sophia Lim

  22. Hi Sophia

Wonderful to have you to join us for the Dance Festival under dance fever at the Esplanade, open courtyard or forecourt. This venue will be at the front of the Esplanade’s atrium new the two flight of steps fronting the main entrance.

    RonLai

  23. Ron-L, I think I am a high fever today. See, I’ll be attending the company’s 7th Moon Dinner tonite and would also join in the dance after that…………..btw, do you know what danz they do in this new millenium : balinese, latin or remain conservative doing only the 2-leg jump?

  24. Hi Tim Kor

As you are attending the 7th Moon Dinner n Dance tonite, the most recommended dance item for the night will be the “Daddy Long Legs”. You fix two long bamboo poles to your legs (borrow if you can) and start hopping round until you see the VIP from the other side of the world watching and enjoying your dance, then you stop……..and ask for 4D numbers, favourite horse racing games or your football pool, lor.

    RONLAI

  25. Ron Lai
Thanks for the reminder. I had almost forgotten about it. Tonight is “Latin Fever”. Think I will mosey there to watch the performances.
