Tips about health

Do you know how to prevent loose teeth due to aging?
It’s not Calcium or Magnesium, it is vanadium, is a micro-mineral. You entire body contains about 100ug of it.

Unfortunately you don’t find it in most multivitamins–& our diets rarely contain enough. So most people have a deficiency. & one of the biggest effects of a vanadium deficiency is loose teeth.

Most vanadium in your bones tend to concentrate where it makes the bones surrounding your teeth tightly in their sockets. If you don’t have enough vanadium, these bones can’t hold onto teeth as well.

Foods highest in vanadium are buckwheat (~30ug/ounce), parsley (~25ug/ounce), oats (~10ug/ounce), & egg (13ug/ounce). Unforunately, most people don’t eat enough of these foods to get the vanadium they need.

The solution is to take a vanadium supplement, but you must be careful because it can cause toxicity. 50mg vanadium sulfate/cap contains 10mg pure vanadium. Since only 1% of dieatary vanadium actually gets absorbed, taking 10mg will get you 1/10th of a mg—>100ug into your body. This is the total amount you should have in your body. About once a week is a great way to ensure that your teeth stay right they belong, without toxicity.

  1. Why endure over 2 hours of agony and pain and then try to bargain with the dentist when you’re already 1 tooth down in an irreversiblke process?

My daughter has a grandmother who will extract yr teeth in return for a sincere “thank you” said honestly. Her method is simple, swift and time-tested.

She ties the problem-tooth with a string which has its other end tied to a door knob. She slams the door even before you can finish counting 1-2-3. But of cos. you’ll hv to hold on to yr jaw.

  2. Basically, there are 2 types of sensivity:

1.)Dentinal sensitivity — You might be able to reduce your chances of dentinal sensitivity by:
Brushing twice a day and flossing daily
Using a soft or ultrasoft toothbrush and brushing gently up and down, rather than side to side
Using a fluoride toothpaste and mouth rinse
Using a toothpaste that has the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Approval and provides protection against sensitivity

2.) Pulpal sensitivity — If a tooth needs root canal treatment, there is no good way to prevent pulpal sensitivity other than to get the needed treatment. Delaying root canal treatment may result in further problems.

In your case, I think is no.2 but you need to prevent further damage to your gum, you need to look into no. 1, that is to brush your teeth with caution.

Pulpal sensitivity can be treated with a root canal if the tooth’s nerve is damaged or dying. If the sensitivity is from a new amalgam (silver) filling, it should go away on its own in several weeks. In some cases, a new filling may be too “high” and may be causing sensitivity. Your dentist can polish the filling in this case. Sensitivity caused by grinding or clenching should diminish as the condition is treated.

In the case of sensitive gum:
Sensitive Gums can be caused by gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums, more advanced breakdown of gums called periodontitis, trauma, and more unusual conditions including lichen planus, allergies and many more. Once again, an exam is necessary to provide a diagnosis and treatment recommendations.(medical terms, should seek help from the dentist, yes indeed, its very traumatise to sit on the dental chair for hours, I have that phobia, too.)

However, you may try this brand of tooth paste, I have used it for years, hope it works on you and stop the pain.
Treatment – Sensodyne or other sensitivity toothpastes work well after about two weeks of use in most cases. However once treatment is stopped the sensitivity often returns.

Dentists have a host of desensitizing medicaments that have improved recently and are quite effective. If the tooth is notched or worn a filling is often indicated as well. Severe recession may need a gingival graft procedure to help replace lost gum tissue.

I know its very lenghty, hope the information is useful.

Thank you for sharing. Take care.

I wonder what Daniel Chan will think when I dare to give advice on dentistry!

Here goes ! I know of a dentist on Selegie road who is one of the official dentists for Singapore Airlines staff. Her rates are not cheap and I struggle to meet my payments but her rates should be lower than specialist rates. Her work is very steady and very accurate and polished. If you need her contact please drop me an email at insiders111@yahoo.com.sg. Use a soft bristles tooth brush as well but I guess you have received this advice already.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Hi Nancy

Dont know if i have seen you but just to share.

For loose teeth it is often due to unhealthy gums. When brushing we need to take care of the gums as well.

For the past 2 months i have sentitive teeth due to deep filling. Did 2 root channel which was very expensive with the rising cost in living nowadays. Even dentist up their prices and having it done by a specialist add to the cost. Using sensitive toothpaste seems the only answer, but for my case it does not work.

The agony of having to sit on the dentist chair for 1 and a half hour to 2 hours. Sensitivity is often cause by deep filling. Any comments on this with your knowledge.

    Thks.
