The 2nd ramble "PLR-2" came to past in August 2008; the trial ended at Turf City.  Let’s Ramble On to another part of Singapore!…….

The terrain is not too rugged.  A grassland fringed by trees; though slopes are gradual there might be little or no defined foot holds ie., could be a little slippery so, proper footwear is encouraged.

This segment has only 1 obstacle which might provide a wee challenge.
The options are:

1)  get down & walk a U-shaped DRAIN.  Not wide canals. Whilst you are crossing, hope no water gushes out on you…. heehehe

2)  leap across, ensure you land on the narrow ledge (at most, your head will hit not a wall but the huge waterpipe "OUCH!"  the echos ‘gong…ng….ng’! ringing in your ears for a couple of secs.

3)  perhaps, there is another way  to cross over?  we shall see…..

After passing through Bukit Panjang Park, we shall end the walk with dinner at a big coffeshop (Blk 272) where a variety of food awaits you.

WALK ENDS:  Blk 272 Bangkit Road, off Bt Pangjang Rd.

LRT Station:  Bangkit.
Bus Services along Bt Panjang Rd:  171, 187, 190, 700, 960, 963.

Background of this Trial:

What is this PipeLine Ramble?" Most of you would know that a water
pipeline runs from Johor to Singapore but have anybody thought to trace the route"?

The entire trail of approx 21 km will take around 8 to 9hours! We had
intended to introduce this trail in 3 separate segments but after the 1st ramble; to truly enjoy this exciting, challenging trail it has now been segmented into 4 parts.

Each part of the route has a different terrain and each opens up a part of Singapore seldom seen.
1st segment from Pearl’s Hill to Farrer Road, Apr08.
2nd segment from Farrer Road to Turf City, Aug08  (the pixs are found in
the same post dd 23July08).

I took a bus but cant recall how I got home hahahaah Either the after effect of the “gong….ng …ng” OR my mind is completely contained by WORK!

  16. #25 #30 CharlesW, the walk ends at a coffeeshop at Blk 272, Bangkit Rd, off Bt Pangjang Rd. LRT naturally named BANGKIT.
    Hope this helps.

  17. Dear All,

I have ended the location of where the Walk shall end… please read the post again.

Thanks all who have registered and yet to register :D

  18. #35 RogerL, I roger you hehhehehe. You didnt mention how you will get to Turf City.

In Turf City”TC”, the traffic is 1-way. If you are driving or via the shuttle, it will go straight in, make a right-U-turn. A row of shops lined the left side of the road. There a few shops selling car accessories (actually, there are many such shops within “TC”) and the famous Curry Garden. “Clementi” Free shuttle service waiting point is between these shops & Curry Garden. If you still cant see it, the best way is to ask the shop owners.
    Hope this helps.

Still unclear, send me an email with your telephone #, I will clear your doubts. My email: chrischan5575@yahoo.com

    C ya!

  25. Hi Chris,

This afternoon I was late ‘cos I had to ask direction from
SBS driver but unfortunately he landed me 2 bus stops away.

I know it’s not Terence’s policy for members to leave their
    h.p on the post.

But wouldn’t it be good at least the EO’s contact be put
    for any contigency?

    Thank you.

    james

  26. Hi Christina
Sorry 4 barging in last minute. thanks for accomodating me anyway.

    Jeffrey/Christina
Thanks for the nice walk. Ended up @ diff spot from where I thot. Confused myself between Bt Panjang & Bt Batok. haha

  27. Alamak! I thought it was a walk.

Little did I know that I would have to jump across a wide and deep drain. Thanks to all the strong, gallant and chivalrous gentlemen who pulled us across as we leapt in faith, the scaredy-cats like me managed to get to the promise land.

My thanks also to the stronger and more sturdy ladies for giving the rest of us a hand at other challenging spots such as slippery slopes.

The weather was cool. The air was crisp. And the care and concern shown by the group was heartwarming.

  28. Aiyo, I also never expect the walk to be so thrilling and exciting, so many obstacles! This big wide “longkang” seems to scare most of us, especially the ladies, but I saw Charles Wee so indecisive, he was negotiating whether to jump from this side or that corner. Hmmmm…me leh, don’t know which leg to put forward…left or right? Luckily got so many strong macho men to help us crossed this big wide “longkang”. Thanks to the EOs (ChristinaCL Chan, Jeffrey Lim, Charles Wee, Veronica Wong & Mary Tan) for organizing this adventurer walk. What an experience and a memorable trip. :)

    Ah Nee

  29. Christina Chan and co-EOs
I breathed a sigh of relief after reading Joy and Ah Nee’s comments. I’m glad I didn’t join in that walk. I don’t think I would have been able to complete it. I had actually contemplated on going for it, but I thought better of it.
To show my support for all of you, can I register for the next one now? I know I can manage the McRitchie Bridge.
Appreciate all your efforts in organising these walks.

  30. Hi ChristinaCL Chan, Jeffrey Lim, Charles Wee, Veronica Wong & Mary Tan)

The walk was very well organised.Although it is very exiting and difficult for me, I maaged to complete the whole tail with the help of many fellow SHCians. Thank you everyone.

  31. Hi Christina & Jeffrey,

I really enjoyed the Pipeline Ramble Walk 3; it was a real workout with interesting obstacles.

Looking forward to the final Ramble Walk 4.

Kudos to the two of you for doing such a great job!

    Warmest Regards,
    Patsy

  32. Hi All EOs

    Thanks for a fantastic day!

The walk was great and indeed very exciting what with having to squeeze between bushes and a fence, climbing down wet slippery slopes, jumping across wide drains, climbing over or crawling under road barriers and walking across fields with thick grass camouflaging water logged land.

I am full of admiration for SK who gamely decided to jump down the drain despite protests and caution that she will not be able to climb up back but she did! She must have used the elephant strength in her petite frame not to mention the great might of two ladies – Veronique, who was the other lady with you who helped SK? Please take your bows ladies!

I was myself pretty hesitant in jumping across until I felt the strong, firm and reassuring hand grip which Veronique had offered me and of course I made it too! Well, in fact WE ALL MADE IT! Isn’t it great?

Karen, ah ya, you can win this time and always if you want to, no problem lah. The greater thrill was in the walk and the challenge that I managed to complete it.

Till we meet for the next walk!

  33. Thanks Christina & Jeffrey for a well organised pipeline ramble walk last Saturday. It was my 1st time and I find it most challenging jumping across the big longkang. Thanks to those around, I’ve managed to leap across safely.

Lina & Steven, both of you don’t seems to have problem thanks to your long legs ya…haha.

Oh Patsy, thanks for being so supportive & always giving us a helping hand during this walk. Alicia, I truly admire your determination and adventurous attitude. And SK, give yourself a pat of the back for you have accomplished the most challenging task that day…he.he.. Well done !

  34. Hi Chris,

Becos there was a RUN organized by my company and have to be there by 7a, die die alarm clock forced me to wake up. In fact, I was at turf club at 1.30p ‘jalan’g till 2.30p. Very very tired, took a bus back home to sleep till 5p. Very sorry, did not turn up.

    susan tan

  35. Hi Christina and Jeffey,

We appreciate all the hard work in paving the way for us to enjoy a memorable walk. I especially like the obstacles along the way. The iron fencing proved challenging to climb over, but fortunately for all of us there is a small whole for us to wriggle through!

The ground was wet after the showing of blessing, but we still enjoy ourselves geting all wet and muddy! The wide longkang was where teamwork come in. There were strong arms around to ferry the ladies across.

I came in my badminton shoes, but it was a great mistake as Humpdy Dumpty me has two great falls on the slipery ground!

    Danz

  36. Hi EOs

Thanks for all the hard work in organising this thrilling, enjoyable and memorable Ramble III walk.

I was also uncertain of whether I was able to leap across the wide long-kang, but with the encouragement and help of those who have leapt across, I breezed through confidently. (Never try, never know).

Thanks to all. See you next walk.

    Cheers
    Alicia

  37. #66 JoyC… yea! scarey cat indeed. Trust you slept well that night. Give yourself a pat & DH hope u give her a hug fm me cos she has accomplish much! :D

  38. To all who came for the walk:

During the recce, I didnt realize that the trail was so challenging; tt the longkangs seemed wider, tt some parts was so ‘water logged’…. it want so bad during our recce because, it was simply get thru whatever obstacles; not forgetting my partner is much more fit & agile hor :D so at the back of my mind there was only “one obstacle”; the very place that I “gong” my head against 1 of those huge water pipes.. it must be that knock that causes forgetfulness of the rest of the obstacles hahaahha

As I repeat the trail 2nd time round, I have more time to observe. Amongst the groans tsk tsk hehehehe everyone was very sporting and make good attempts and as Alicia said “breeze thru” heehehe.

The longkangs were wider than I remembered, ha. Thought Steven might stretch himself out so we could walk across :D but I couldnt catch up with him to put this request thro.

I think all of us shall remember the willing, helpful hands of AndrewT, Aaron, Veronique and many others extending their help 1 way or another; it’s moments such as these that is so heartwarming. So, once again “Thanks everyone for all that you have done” this includes our very own SHC photographers all voluntary… sie sie leh

Note: we have plans to do PLR4 in 2009! to conclude this amazing trail… hopefully :D

Finally, make a date with us 8Nov, our last walk for 2008 MacRitchie suspension bridge… (the post for registration shall be up end October).

    Warm Regards,
    ChristinaCL Chan
