  1. Thanks…count me in too. There is at least one reason to celebrate, that is, to connect through song, dance and fun!

    Yes, do include line dancing.

    Cheerios!

    3. Cynthia Ong

    Regards

  11. Dear Pearlynn,

I’m as disappointed as you are about the cancellation.
Besides the high cost in staging the low participation, the
Xmas atmosphere would not be as rowdy without suuficient
    crowd.

Anyway, there’s plenty of opportunities for such events in
SHC. Do keep a lookout for their launch in the near future.

I look forward to meeting you in the near future.
    Merry Christmas.

    james

  12. Hi James #23,

I like to thank you for initiating this Xmas eve celebration. Sad that this event has to be aborted. Can you share with us the challenges that you have to consider before aborting this event. This way, we can learn from your experience, and consider them for future activities. Many Event Organisers go through different stages when organising activities. What are the walls you face?

    Terence Seah

  13. Hi Terence,

You brought up a v good question.
When this party was organised, the min. no was put at 100
to be cost effective around the $20 region.
With only 20+ sign up, the cost will increase to around the
$50 mark taking into account the hi rental cost of $700 and
    food cost of $300 alone.

With such a hi cost of staging this event, I believe we
would be better off to join other CC parties which charge
between $5 – $15, depending on food and program offered.

The other consideration is that with fewer people, the
atmosphere would not be as rowdy.

As one of the EOs pointed out, the lack of response could be
due to church celebrations, people going overseas, the
proximity to year-end countdown and time for families during
    this festive day.

Anyway, the lessons learnt are invaluable and shall be
carried forward in organising future events.

Thank you to all who have shown their keen interest.

    james

  14. Hi James #25,

Good feedback. And, I think numbers are important in major events. Venue rental cost can make or break an event, even before the event gets the go-ahead.

I am always mindful of venue cost which is a huge fixed costs in any event. Avoid venue cost if possible. We would bear this in mind, when organising monthly gatherings.

Thinking aloud, we have to reconsider many times, if we are planning another Xmas party, a New Year bash or a Lunar New Year get-together.

Our SHC Dinner and Dance is planned for March 2009, hopefully during the less busy months.

Thanks again James. See you for the Mae Hong Son trip.

    Terence Seah

  15. Hi James/Terence,
Wld like 2 share my thought with respect to this canceled event besides those points already listed.

1, I personally felt that time lapse btwn Oct mthly gathering and Xmas party is too close and coupled d fact programs seem to be quite identical thus it could a another drawback as some had already attended and seen these performances. Usually 1st time is always a novelty :)

2, most of us knew how rigid the timing imposed by the CC can be right? Though you did not indicated the end party time but, I think CC would likely stretch beyond 10.30pm for normal day and maybe for Xmas, they will likely to stretch only till 12mn for the countdown. So from 7pm – 12mn, is abt 5hrs time slot. Let’s say dinner takes abt half to 1hr, all sort of performances (be it all in 1 go or at interval basis) is another 1.5 to 2hrs. That barely left with abt only 2hrs to reli let our hairs down and enjoy!!!! Not forgetting that there games and quiz as stated in your agenda.

3, Multi-purpose hall is reli too big and even if you managed to get the headcount intended, they will likely be scattered around which I felt defeat purpose of interacting among members.

Last, location of venue also does play a part as Kovan is more on East side of island and eventhough it is quite easily accessible thru’ MRT but it is reli a long journey ride for those taking public transport.

Nevertheless, I really salute your never give up attitude in trying to get this event up for us.

Just my couple of cents worth ok!!! Cheers.. Dolly
