Golf as long term exercise

hi,

i could not find any thread on golf proper so i try to start this thread..

i happen to come across many senior golfers who enjoy and keep fit with golf

even for those a little expanded at middle section of the body can find golf an enjoyable and refreshing exercise

so for those who would like to try the game and do not know to get started, please notify your interest

the rest can be discussed and arranged

… a little exercise is worth many health pills …

  1. Hi Brian,

Welcome to SHC, and your post on golfing as a health pill. I totally agree with you, as i do see many senior golfers some in their 70s walking up/down Sembawang hills early in the morning as though it is a mission that they must complete before the start of the day. The important result it keeps them fit, eyes sharp and motivated mentally too.

So let us hear more about you and joining us for a game, next week, email me at bswi@yahoo.com.

    Cheers

  2. Hi Brian,

I always wanted to take golfing as my hobby but don’t really know how to start. I would like to know more about this game, would be very much appreciated it if you would let me know the information about this game e.g. the cost for beginners.

You could email me at the following email address: nancymajortan@gmail.com

    Thanks & regards!

    Cheers!
    NancyM.

  3. Dear Brian,

Just like Nancy, Jassmine and Shirley, I would like to learn golf. The little bit of golf I did was online (long ago) and mini-golf on a cruise. Haha. Could you provide me with more information at lersl@yahoo.com

    Thanks,
    Vivien Ler

  4. hi,

here’s some of the things to get started

    1.equipment basics
    2.swing basics
    3.driving range
    4.chitchat

    Item 1
    – need full golf set? NO
    – start with most comfortable iron 5 or 6
    – where to get? Cash converter or reuse shop @ SingaInn (<s$20)
    – get swing right first before buying other clubs

    Item 2
    – you must adopt proper posture
    – some seasoned players are still analysing their swing
    – so take your time to get good ‘feel’ of your swing
    – for those who are already trained by golf pros you can share your experience with us
    – for me, simple is best, especially for ladies where brute force is not recommended
    – you can try the ‘1-2-3’ swing rythm

    Item 3
    – please note most driving range PROHIBIT coaching
    – but it is fine to pass friendly comments during your play
    – so ‘coaching’ will be limited while on the range
    – you need to self-adjust while you swing while i can pass some pointers along the way

    Item 4
    – golf has lots of theories
    – we can gather around to share any useful info
    – a little tip sometimes can do wonders
    – it’s also good opportunity to arrange golf outings
    – for beginners, JB is better location
    – it is cheaper and less pressurizing

    what’s next?
    – kick-off meeting, get to know each other
    – plan first trip to the range
    – can someone help to organize the meeting venue, else we could meet at any Mac
    – any questions, please shoot..

  5. Hi Brian and Ladies,

If you do not mind I have 2 iron 7 to give away for your practice swing.

I might have a few more loose clubs, I think irons and woods, in the storeroom.

Let me check and revert to you.

    Cheers,

    Bessie

  6. Hi Ping Hock you sound like a professional player curious to know what is your handicap ? The SHC guys suggested a game for the 13th morning but unfortunately I can’t make it on that day and also I can’t play mornings. I hve proposed a game on the 12th Monday at Warren afternoon game and the guest fee is $95/- am waiting for the anser from the rest of the guys. Hope to get a game with all you SHC golfers.
    Janet Loo

  7. hi Janet,

you sound like a competitive player
i used to play in JB, now going to get proper handicap (golfkaki)
once it’s ready, i would like to join you guys ..

for those who wish to take a few swings for exercises, i guess we can do the range or 9-holes

  8. Ping Hock

Good of you to offer help to those who want to start playing golf. You must be a very patient and gentle man.

If you are looking for kaki, I can play on Mondays or Tuesdays. I pay members rates at NSRCC, Sambawang and Pulai Springs.

My email is in SHC Golf group.

  9. Hi Ping Hock @# 6

Would like to propose that the getting-to-know-members meeting be held this Sunday (11/1) 3p.m. at White Tangerine cafe in Hougang (St 21). Can you make it?

A greenhorn’s question: What is the difference between iron 5 and iron 6?. Am going to scout for an old one asap.

    Cheers,

  10. hi Jassmine,

thanks for kindly arranging the venue
i will be there for sure
dont buy anything yet, i will bring along some samples and do some basic explanation
let’s talk first la .. dont rush

hope to see some of you at the cafe, cheers

  11. Hi to all who are interested in learning golf from Ping Hock,

This is to confirm that the getting-to-know-members meeting has been scheduled. Details:

    Date: Sunday 11th Jan.
    Place: White Tangerine Cafe
    Time: 3-5p.m.
Tentative agenda: 1. Introd on golf by Sifu
    2. Information about clubs
    3. Q & A
    4. The first trip to a range.

Hope to see you all there.

    cheers,

  12. hi all,

again thanks to Jassmine for organizing the meeting this sunday. please relax and let’s talk on golf things. point to note here is the focus is on physical exercise and not so much on competitive golf. let’s not stress ourselves but to relax and at same time improve on our blood circulation and joint movements la ..

ps: no need to buy clubs yet, chotto matte la

  13. Hi Ping Hock, used to be a competitive player but no longer now I just enjoy social games and don’t mind playing with anyone as you know golf is a very technical game you can be playing for many many years and still learning.

GOLF means Go On Learning Forever
GOLF means Game of Learning and Frustration

Don’t take it too serious would love to meet all the SHC golf kakis and have fun. Janet Loo

  14. Hi Janet

I like your definition of GOLF.

I have learnt many new ‘dirty’ words in different languages and dialects since taking up golf. They are usually directed at the ‘guy’ above. One day he will send me to hell and it’s all Golf’s fault.

It is also the reason why I prefer playing golf with guys.
Some of the words are not suitable for girls and kids.

I laugh each time someone says golf is a gentleman’s game.

BUT IT IS FUN and better to curse in the golf course at yourself than at your family at home.

  15. I believe silverhairs should not be deprived of enjoying the games of golf, afterall we have more time and some money in the second part of our life.
We have so many beautiful golf courses in this part of the world and one can’t stop exhilarating at the scenery of some of the signature holes. Imagine one of the holes at the golf course at Hotel Negara at Lake Toba, it is high up in the mountain, cool breeze sweeping by, surround by huge Dutch era pine trees and overlooking the blue Lake Toba. You want to pause for 5 minutes before continue your game.
You don’t need to be good in the golf game to enjoy this.
    By Chin HW

  16. hi all,

janet-san, hope you can come and add your support to would-be golf beginners, arigato!

for Yoon Chin and similar doubters,

you can surf the net with the cafe name and get its location map. if you still need help please let me know, i can email u a screenshot.

last but not least, let’s stay focus on using golf as relaxing exercise, ok?

i have seen too many old folks walking the courses regularly and looking lively – putting some young ones to shame .. including myself also la ..

have faith, once you get your natural swing, many beautiful sceneries are awaiting your presence & it does not cost a bomb la ..

  17. Hi Bessie,

I need an Iron 7. Someone has a loan of it and did not return, and I can’t recall who. If you do have one extra, can pass to me, please.

    Thanks

  18. Hi Ronald and Molly,

Ronald: I have reserved a fiber shaft iron 7 for you.
Hand it to you when we meet at SGCC.

Molly: Not sure whether there is a iron 9 in the storeroom but will check and revert.

I had lost my iron 7 when a fren borrow to practice at the OCC range. Could not find the same brand. So play without it and use either iron 8 or iron 6, adjust on the handle.

    Cheers

    Bessie

  19. Calling all golf-learner wannabes – a gentle reminder:

Tomorrow (Sunday 11) at 3p.m. we meet at the White Tangerine Cafe for our first theory lesson on golf.

Come and hear it from the horse’s mouth…oops, sumimasen…I mean from Ping Hock personally.

    Cheers,

  20. hi Ivan and all,

for those with some free time in evenings, we can always meet up at marina bay at any weekday evenings

just check around for a small group to agree on date/time and we can start to stroke right away ..

by the way, the alternative range is @ toa payoh

i go to range quite often, so it’s up to you guys to help form a group to start the gentle exercise without further delay

    cheers!

  21. hi,

    i got a contribution for a used 6-iron
    anyone interested pls inform me

also, anyone free to drop by TP (toa payoh) range on monday 6.30pm pls come along and share your stories..

  22. Hi Brian Ong,

At this time before the CNY, there are lots errands to run. I won’t be able to attend this evening range’s meet up. Will join you next round after CNY. TP range is more convenient for me to go there. Thank you and a Happy New Year.

  23. Hi Ping Hock

If nobody wants the iron 6, give it to me.

A friend showed me five used drivers on cheap sale (abt $4-$5 each) and I’m thinking of buying one to keep for use when it’s time to learn to hit the ball on a tee. I’ll like to ask what number I should buy for beginners. Is 4 suitable for a lady?

Tks and cheers – happy lunar new year!

  24. hi Jassmine,

ok, i will reserve the 6-iron for you.

please do not get 4-iron, it is rather difficult to use, even for pro’s. some seasoned kakis have given up totally on 4-iron and replace with woods.

so don’t buy anything yet, just come along to the range and feel the swing first, ok ?

kong xi fa cai to all !!!

  25. Hi Ping Hock

Konnichiwa. Domo arigato for the 6-iron.

The drivers I mentioned are all wood. Thought of grabbing one at that low price bcos none may be available when I need one. Nway, will decide after the visit to the range on Feb 15.

    Cheers,

  26. hi

    to all who maybe interested,

let’s fix the range timing as

    monday – toa payoh range – 7pm
    friday – marina bay range – 7pm

    please inform/check beforehand if coming

    happy swinging …

ps: if you have better day to propose, pls revert
    arigato!

  27. Hi Ping Hock

Hope to meet you and the rest at the Toa Payoh range in April. Will inform when I can turn up.

I’m looking for a 2nd hand No.1 driver as well as perhaps a 4 wood for practising there.

    Regards
    Joan

  28. Dear Brain Ong,

Many thanks for fixing the range timing. Much appreciated.

It would be great that you can e-mail to us your HP contact to our email addresses for easy communication. Thank you.

  29. hi Ronald Lee

i hv mailed my hp contact to this group
if you know of any person been left out, pls info

    hope to hear some responses
btw, we can start this friday
nx monday will be out due to CNY

    gracias.

  30. hi Joan

    nice to hear from you
you sound like a regular golfer ..

if you dont mind, you can also help to guide the rest, arigato!

will keep track of your request and revert when we come across more loose clubs ..

    cheers!

  31. Hi Joan @# 38

Looking forward to meeting you at the TP range in April.

I’ll try to borrow the two drivers (1 and 4) for your practice in S’pore.

    Happy Lunar New Year!

  32. Hi Ping Hock

I suggest you have a table or corner at the next monthly meeting for all who are interested in golf to gather and talk about golf or exchange equipments. Ask the EO for permission to put up a sign so we can find you.

  33. Verily, Tian Soo,

For those who like eagles, birdies and hole-in-one, they will gather at the table that says “Golf”.

For blokes and dim-wits like me, we will argue scientifically whether eagles & birds have dicks or ticks as the less than holy ones congregate at the corner marked “Goof”.

Heee, I am convinced that we will have a bigger crowd with us.

  34. Hi Ping Hock and Jassmine

I’m just a beginner in golf – took it up when I came to Perth. But because it’s so challenging and interesting, I’ve stayed with the game though I wish the weather is cooler in S’pore.

So I will see you all in Apr at the range. Thanks for looking out for spare drivers as I will not be bringing my clubs over till later on.

Gong Xi Fa Cai to you.
    Joan

  35. hi,

janet (9…..552, sorry i dont know which janet) maybe coming to marina bay tomorrow evening 23jan 7pm, may i know anyone else able to come along ?

would appreciate your info before noon tomorrow

note: no need to bring any golf stuff, just meet up and do some basic swings

  36. Hi Ping Hock,
I am delighted to see the SHC response for Golf. For the past one year, I got deeply involved in promoting golf for the Juniors and the Seniors. Was a Marketing & Operation Manager in Star Golf Academy (Marina) back in 2007. Currently I am a freelance Marketing Consultant for Orchid Driving Range (Temporarily closed till April), Warren Driving Range and two other driving range soon. I wish to organise a discounted 2hrs Golf Intro at Warren for SHC members. Can I email the detail to you.
Cheers and Gong Xi Fa Cai
    Raymond Tang

  37. hi Raymond,

nice to know high profile guy like yourself willing to share your rich experience with us

please let us know the details of your plan so that interested members can response accordingly

lets promote together the benefits of gentle golf..

  38. Hi Ping Hock,
    Can I call you Brian.
Brian, I can offer my service to assist you in organising the SHC golf group.
I hope to organise a free Golf Intro for the SHC members. Members may have to pay $12 to $15 per pax for finger food plus refreshment.
Wish to meet up with you before I customise my Golf Intro for SHC members.
Look forward to hear from you
    Cheers

  39. hi Raymond,

met up with Ron Wi, Janet last friday at MB range
they also mention your name and we very much look forward to your golf programs

how about meeting up at MB range on next friday

    cheers

  40. Hi Brian,
Is is rather inappropriate for me to meet with you at MB because the ex-boss (Star Golf) may have discomfort for me to discuss golf matters. Furthermore, it is in inconveniet for members without own transport.
In Warren, Club’s transport is provided free from Choa Chu Kang. Furthermore, I can provide Clubs free for the driving range practice.
Cheers and Gong Xi Fa Cai to all SHCs’
    Raymond

  41. Hi Brian,
Hope you had a great time in the New Year and many years ahead.
Can I confirm your golf kaki meet this Friday at 7pm in Warren Golf & Country Club driving range.
Do you need me to reserve 3 bays for you?
You need me to meet you guys at Choa Chu Kang MRT and show you the way to the driving range?
    Cheers
    Raymond

  42. hi ray tang,

so far not many members have turn up for the meetings.
i have fixed the place/timing for those who may find time to come along and experience basic golf swings as casually as possible.. just turn up and swing.

no equipment, no charges, no nothing.. gloves also provided

as the posting heading says, it’s mainly for gentle exercise

for those who may be interested in your program, i hope they can response to your posts here and tie-up with you

let me manage the basic stuff first at the ranges..

    arigato!

  43. Hi Brian,
    No worry.
I am more than willing to help you to kick start golf basic for the SHC members.
Monday at Toa Payoh at 7pm is fine for me.
Please consider changing your location at Marina to Warren. At Warren, I can make some arrangement for golf balls and clubs for SHC members.
For today, I can bring along some 6 & 7 irons for the introduction
Look forward to meet up with you.
    Cheers

  44. FR02022009 – Field Report 02/02/2009

had some swings at TP followed by drinks/dinner

ray tang has wealth of golf info to share with all, do make good use. ray is also very generous to support all on any golf queries or ‘special’ arrangements..
ray-san, thanks for letting us try out your clubs, the irons were awesome!

btw, need to apologize for grave mistake in ball calculation
it should be 6.25 cents !! my poor maths la ..
    (500cents/80balls)

also we did not really get to start slowly and orderly
next time we will do it more properly, ok?

    cheers!

  45. Hi Brian and all,
I am Japanese. Often go to Sin but never played golf there.
Let me join this loop when I go and play golf.
    See you some day.
    Cheers

  46. hi tomi,

nice of you to join our group
let me try to introduce you to the rest

    hi SHC-ians,

tomi is my close friend from japan
he’s pretty good at golf, swings very nicely
of cos he’s residing in tokyo and if there’s sufficient interest, we could start a thread on jap cultural exchange

most of us may know japan through tours, but the more local stuff are not well known, cf. ‘Japan Hours’
in this aspect, tomi-san can help to share latest happenings in japan, even lady fashions ..

myself also leading a japanese language study in our office, normally called ‘nihongo benkyo kai’ where we study conversational japanese
it may be tough, but it’s the real thing la ..

so, lets start the first step of the bridge to land of rising sun
for any local support, i will stand in for tomi

on behalf of tomi-san, Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!

  47. FR09022009

    venue: TP range

Jass has bravely turn up to try her first swing, keep it up
tip for Jass: focus on your body turn, dont worry too much on aiming at the ball, yet

surprise appearance from Lina, hey, you swing like a natural le .. what a waste you dont golf
come and join more often and later enjoy the beautiful course sceneries la ..

ron lee seems to be improving .. hm, need to reduce your slicing, do some self analysis, keep the left shoulder up but not too high, ok ..

there was suggestion to move MB location to TP also, any comments?

    cheers

  48. While SHC focuses on Singaporeans, I have approved Tomi-san as a member, as he is over 45 and he likes Singapore. This may be an exception, but I hope Tomi will be one of our links to Japan Tokyo. Perhaps, Tomi can also give us a better understanding on the SilverHairs scene in Japan which would also have a high ratio of baby boomers.

    Feel free to engage Tomi.

    Terence Seah

  49. helo PingHock,Brian

I also want to learn golf one day..only tried at driving range with ahnee..but just main2 only!…after that, never try again..cos so malu lah..hehe

  51. Hi Brian,
Sorry, I miss the Monday meet at Toa Payoh.
Just recovered from a bad cough.
I can join the Friday group if you and the members agree to relocate from Marina to Toa Payoh.
    Thousand apologies
    Raymond

  52. Hi Brian,
    Just for your info.
Refer Straits Times today at main section page 2 (bottom right), “Golf Injuries-Prevention & Management” forum.
This will be of interest for all level of experience golfers. I will be attending the Friday 6.30
    Cheers

  53. Hi Ping Hock,
Konban wa. Domo arigato for the golf lesson + equipment.
Will continue to work on my swing next Mon.
BTW, I forgot to get the 6-iron (@# 35) from you. Will try to remember next week.

    Hi Tomi-san,
    Hajimemashite. Watashi wa Jassmine desu.
Dozo yoroshiku (Happy to ‘meet’ you).

    Cheers

  54. Hi Brian,

Since MB is inconvenient for members without own transport. I agreed that we shall shift location MB to TP altogether as least for the time been. We shall change the day as well if it calls for.

Jassmine! Are we changing the location for the 15th. meet as well?

Lina, you got the swing there. Do come every week to join us and one day we walk in the fairway together. OK? It is very scenic.

Norlina, Ah Nee, Susan Chang, Dolly and others! Come and join us in TP range at 7pm (Monday). It is very easy to learn golf at the range and under the supervision of our “cool” Brian. Parking at Toa Payoh range is convenient and it is free. The facilities there are new, including the range balls too. You all will like it. The ECP range is very run down and with very limited bay. May encounters some frustration at time.

So…. I see you all there at TP.

  55. hi,

wow, so many comments, how to keep track ..
in case i miss out some, pls info, ok?

ok, we will shift to TP from now on
    (TP=toa payoh, MB=marina bay)

    raymond-san,
pls take care, you can come at your convenience
of cos’ the ladies awaits your presence eagerly ..

    nor, dolly-san,
come join la, free and easy, no malu one
seriously, pls get some basic concepts right before you self practise

    hey ron lee,
alamak, i feel some pressure le, i no cool la ..
just sharing around while i have the resources
life is short & unpredictable .. (another thread??)

    jass-san,
the 6iron in my car at all times, remember to take it
it was donated by another colleague who’s picking up golf also

    lina-san,
i think you are ready for 9holes
when can we try mandai EGC ? ron lee (& partner) can join..

    tomi-san,
if you have good golf tip, just post here
nihongo mo ok la, i try to translate ..

c u all at TP this fri

    cheers!

  56. Got 2 holes, now ready for 9 holes. Multiply the two, it’s 18-hole. Lina, you can cover the entire green liao with eagles & birdies all watching & clapping as you show us the hole-in-one………………heeeehee.

  57. Brian, arigato gozaimasu, but hor, si mi basic concepts har (u will b telling us har?). If so, I will pop in this Fri nite for lessons lor b4 going 4 pom cha cha lor.. Nor-san, mau tak? but hor, where in TP har??

  58. Hi RonL

TP is nearer for me. Still don’t know how to get to MB, so will be very happy if event is at TP.

Read that Fri’s venue may be changed to TP. May join on Fri too if it’s at TP (Wanna get to the green in quick time!)

15/2 , 3p.m. (scheduled) is Sunday afternoon. If at TP will be very happy to go. I think the balls may be cheaper bcos no floodlights used, right coach Ping Hock?
Next practice, I intend to hit 50 balls at least (getting serious!)

ok, will sms PH about Fri’s fixture.

    Cheers

  59. Dolly dolly & Ronald Lee,

Dolly, TP is Toa Payoh driving range lah, not Tanjong Pagar hor. This morning, Nor is asking her buddies to join her golfing and then hor….I heard Ronald Lee calling us also. So I think it is fun lah, some more with Brian & Ping Hock around, we sure get that perfect “swing”. Nor, remembered we used iron 6 or 7 and don’t forget your white glove. Apa macam…..so long never practise, I forgot how to swing…:(

    Ah Nee

  60. Come Dolly this Friday, we will guide and share with you the basic concepts. You can start to swing right after that on Friday. But don’t come with a pair of dancing shoe hor…heeheee. A pair of flat or sport shoe will do. I shall send you some clips to your mailbox.

Toa Payoh Range is at Toa Payoh East (Next to Kim Keat Avenue and Toa Payoh Lorong 8) and next to First Toa Payoh Secondary School. Look for Block 1003 Toa Payoh Industrial Park. Drive into the range compound and parking is free in there. If necessary, I can go with you.

    C U this Friday.

  61. Hi Briam,
Thank u for ur support me to join this club.
I will forward the letter for check point of Slice and Hook tomorrow though it is written in JPNS.

    Hi,all
Happy to receive a warm welcom from you all.

    Charles san,
For the middle age, Trekking, Golfing, Jogging, Running and so on. In my case, go to swiming on Sturday and go to driving range or golf course(once a month) on Sunday.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Spore.
    Cheers

  62. Ronald/Ping Hock,

Just to confirm the location and time for this Friday (13Feb2009) driving range swing session:

    Location: Toa Payoh Range
Time: 6:30pm or ???? (as there is no firm time stated anywhere in the above postings)

Cos, may be able to make it and be there just to relax a bit…

    Cheers,
    Ivan

  63. Dolly, Ah Nee & Nor, glad you ladies coming to keep me company. So Ah Nee and Nor, you both bringing your golf clubs to office on Friday? Call me when you get to Bishan MRT, if you need a lift. I think we will be laughing more than anything else!

Tim, Ping Hock is only pulling my leg. I cannot even hit the ball straight.

Brian, if I go to Mandai EGC, everybody better get out, cos I don’t know where the balls will land. What I like best about the golf course is that I can drive the buggy. Need a driver?

Ronald Lee, thanks for the encouragement. I borrowed the whole golf set and gloves already, so might as well give it a try and TP is very convenient for me.

  64. Walau eh, Lina, a few posts earlier, he was checking to see whether you are ready to use all 9 holes and now you are telling me that he’s also pulling your legs. Haha, at the rate you both are playing the game, it can catch fire very easily hor………..our utility man Sengh will have to standby with his fire extinguisher or will he also buay tahan, disappear in the bushes to look for holes & legs?

  65. dolly,

    got some 6irons going @ $2
if u dont mind carrying old iron, its value for money

for those who like to own a nice set, u may want to consider half set – this will suit those who wish to take up the swings as form of exercise

for more tips on club purchase, consult our good old buddy Ray Tang, he’s may know the contacts ..

  79. Hi Ping Hock,

Selamat pagi. Esok you ada pergi ke TP range tak? I mahu pergi ke sana kalau guru ada datang.

(Minta ma’af kalau spelling dan grammar salah)

  80. hi jass,

    sorry for late reply
we are having a game @ sembawang but should be done before 7pm, will be dropping by TP after the game
    normally ron/ray will be there..

    cheers

  81. hi,
i will be on overseas trip next week 9-14mar
so could not join you for next week’s practice sessions
hope ron/ray can help to provide some guidance if anyone wish to turn up for some practice
anyway, you can self adjust your swing to comfortable level by self practice, keeping in mind these few pointers

    1. push left grip down, but not touching your left thigh
    – else your wrist pain pain
    2. keep straight body axis, bend knees slightly
    – else your body gelek gelek at end of swing
    3. maintain swing speed/rhythm by using 1-2-3 rhythm
    – dont anyhow hantam, be graceful & energy efficient

above all, relax and enjoy the swing motion while keeping fit .. see you people on 16mar

    cheers

  82. oops !
forgot to mention our ever charming charles
he’s got really creative ideas for swing techniques
u can surely learn much from his suggestions, like ‘sweeping the floor’, …

    charles-san, yoroshiku ne ..

  83. charles,

raishu wa makase sase ne ..
next week please take care ok ..

    the ladies are improving well
once stabilized, they can move on to other swings
    just for basics, swings types:
    1. drive
    2. iron
    3. pitch
    4. chip
    5. putt

once these are almost there, we are off to the course !!
then ray-san can offer cheap cheap deals, maybe :-)

    cheers

  84. Aiyoh, Ping Hock you going to Japan to work, ah? The Principal will surely make us sweep the floor. Please send our regards to your good friend Tomiyama. What you and Charles talking about in Japanese, huh? The last sentence in Charles’ #122, sounds like ‘on to golf sampai mati’. Haha!

  85. Hi Ping Hock

I’d like to collect half a set of clubs. What are the clubs in a half set?

About the ‘oversize’ clubs I mentioned, Can I use these to play at the course (not in competitions)?

Will miss you next Mon. Have a safe trip.

    Cheers,

  86. no la, holland, work & hopefully one round of golf
if u can ‘sweep’ well, u can go on the scenic courses liao .. the principal is so stylo, we can learn so much from him :-)

main golf sampai sihat lama !!

  87. hi jass #125

regarding half set, here’s some pointer:
… This generally comprises five irons and perhaps two woods and a putter. Usually the irons are the odd numbers 3,5,7,9 and wedge

though for some ‘half set’ is anything less than full set
full set = 14 clubs for competitions
u can also buy complete half sets from pro shops,
eg. Wilson Ladies Half Set, …

u can use anything outside competitions

  88. Lina@24…
They all talk their language…we translate la..
Charles said ‘sampai mati’…but PingHock answer ‘jangan risau makan sushi’..haha..oopss!sori guys!

    PingHock..ya lah..without you..we sure kena sweep floor again & again…worst then a maid’s job!..apa macam !
Anyway..u have a good trip & tell Tomi to visit shcians here..he wont regret!

  89. Lina & Nor,

I don’t know Japanese but I love eating “sushi”. Alamak….teacher go on leave next week huh? I understand got one relief teacher coming leh, who huh? Meanwhile we will be sweeping the floor under the supervision of Raymond & Charles.

    Pink Hock, Bon voyage!…..ichiroheian o inoru……..gokigen yo

    Ah Nee

  90. noh #128

adoi! bukan ke jepun, pergi holland la ..

ta’ jumpa sama tomi, bagaimana berkata apa apa ..

sushi yang kechil kechil, ta’ boleh risau
sebab kau besar besar … oops !! (pantum la)

    c u 2moro !?

  91. Ping Hock #126,

“if u can ‘sweep’ well, u can go on the scenic courses liao”.

If we can sweep well, the whole TP driving range would be so clean lah! But whether you go to Nippon or Holland, have fun with your golf! We will surprise you by the time you get back!

Ah Nee, I did not know you can speak Japanese. When we start our Japanese lesson, teacher?

  92. Hi Raymond,

I am attending a dinner function this Friday night.

Hence, Brian and myself are off-duty. You be alone.
Kindly take care of the golf beginners. Some of them may need club, please bring some extra.

    Thanks.

  93. Hi all,
Sorry for no reply long time.
You all look like enjpying golf.
I am supprised with your good Japanese, Subarashii!!

  94. Hello Ping Hock,

so what did you guys did ???

  97. Ping Hock, we will be there for golf this Friday, so don’t finish all those chocolate, keep some for us.

Last Friday we skipped golf and went to see Patrick Chan and his band perform at Tanglin CC. He sings and plays the guitar very well. One of these days we can bring you OK. You might enjoy it better than golf, hee…hee.

  98. Hi Brian,
Sorry. Cannot commit my attendance at Toa Payoh. Golfing is always suspended for an hour and need to stay back late.
    Thousand apologies.
    Cheers

  99. Last evening, not even a single soul after 3 baskets.

Alamak! Teacher gone to Tokyo, students go to Holland.

Sumimasen! Brian, next time you keep your itinerary, OK?

Your fault and not that I am not doing my job.

  100. hi ron #145

  105. Hi there,

Teacher, no teacher is not the main reason unless you are a newbie and wanted to join in this game today. The basic is taught for a while, and by now one should have the passion in pursuing to learn the game if you like to move on. First step is to get and master your basic swing and get it going. Only self examine and self adjusting your swing plus more practice at the range could get you into the first step. Are you there?

  106. Aiyo, Ron, of cos, teacher must b there n this is d #1 reason that we will b there lor.. Newbie learns from newbie, sure kena cheng 1.. no point mah, tio bo? I am very sure most of we gals still hv our doubts in basic, right gals?

So since, I still hv my doubt on correct method, if teacher not avail, I wun b there lor.. so Teacher, u going this Fri, bo? Cos I 1 2 b there if u r.. ok? But, if I cant make, will definitely leave msg or sms u lor.. ok? Dolly

  110. Dolly dolly,

    Ah Nee

  111. Ah Nee, how come you don’t want to come? You only travel from Shenton Way. This new lady called Joan, comes all the way from Perth to attend Ping Hock’s lesson!

Ping Hock, why only 3 bowls of chin chow? We have Dolly, Ah Nee, Bira, Nor, Joan and myself.

  112. ladies #162,163,164

  119. Hi Ping Hock

It was interesting meeting the small group on Mon and a chance to hit balls here. Thanks Ping Hock for the tips on golf swing etc. Not a very good learner – never had been.

I will try to be around on Mons but can’t be certain as there are many things I like to do, see and learn, not forgetting eat.

Jassmine, Ron Lee, Bira and Norlinda, nice meeting you and have fun.

    Joan

  120. hi Joan..
    Its nice meeting you too..:)

We know u very busy..and hv tight schedule during your stay here…but looking forward to our outing to the mini golf course at Mandai soon..

Today, i also cant attend…banyak tired after 2days trip to Batam! Will go Friday

    Btw Joan…
since u are here..why not visit Batam?…its a very modern place to go jalan2 & hang out…i if u like to makan nasi padang & just relax
its been so long since my last trip, but im so amazed at how they have develop into a really cool city!

Lily….remember our Sijori trip?..the 1st SHC trip!..organised by non other than YOU!
Would u like to be EO again?…hehe :)

  121. Hi Nor
Yes, went on a day trip years ago. May go again to see the changes. Let me know when you all decide on playing golf at the mini course at Mandai. Though Ping Hock thinks that I can’t swing yet, I was playing in Perth – not particular and will take years to get it right.

However need to get some cheap clubs as mine are not here. Will hit balls when I’m free but may not be on Mon every time.

  122. hi

    how abt next week?
need to be weekday am, in case some are afraid of UV

    … $$$
    S$32 / game – 9 holes
$3 / trolley – if half set, no need trolley la ..

    normally 2h can finish
    7am is good timing

no booking reqd, just walk in
since short holes, half set is enough

    any other queries ??
    pls pick a day ..

    cheers

  123. dolly #177

no problem la, just fitness exercise

    btw, for all’s attention:
it is normally not permitted to ‘teach’ in golf ranges
so, please cooperate by not calling ‘teacher’ at the range

else.. i’ll be booted out from the range, cannot practise next time :-(

just checking, Anyone Coming Tonite ??

  124. helo PingHock
Sori this friday 24Apr have to escape practise cos got meeting with some frens, thot i heard Lina going to Teochew nan dinner …is it Lina?…apa macam u din tell me leh? or is it nx friday?

  126. Nor #185, We going to Teochew makan tomorrow. I did not tell you cos today is only Thurs, not Friday yet.

And that mini golf is not that mini after all! It is a 9 hole golf course, instead of 18! We can’t even hit the ball straight how to go to golf course. But if we do, we will spend more time looking for our lost balls than playing golf!

  127. Been busy and not at TP.Also weather very hot. Not free on weekends and 5th and 7th may. Don’t mind playing at Mandai if Nor, Jassmine etc also interested. Text me on my mb as I don’t check website sometimes. Otherwise till I return to Perth.

See u all sometimes at TP.

  128. Hi everyone! Have not been catching up on this for a while. What’s happening and how’re the swings getting? And next range ……when/where/what time?

  129. lina #187

the course is indeed mini cos’ too many par-3
    + only 2 short par-4, no par-5
very very mini la, many children also playing..

    ivan #189

    aiyo, swing timing no change
    every mon/fri TP range 1900h
… must info coming, else i may attend to others

btw, u should do the course le, no need practise so much la..

re: Executive golf course (EGC) outing
    propose: 12 may 1400h

  130. PingHock..
so u saying that mini golf course not for us?,,,since so many children playing!..so malu leh if the kids can hit further than us..they sure laugh so loud!…

    dolly,jass,bira,noh,lina,ronlee,charles,..

anyway, always hapi to share basics of soft swings

    cheers

  138. Last evening, I joined the golf trainees at the Toa Payoh range. There were Nor, Dolly, Lina, Jass, and Ping Hock. Guess Ron Lee, CharlesW, Bira and others were busy. RonaldW was there to check if I turn up. He also gave me some great tips. I am a hopeless golf player; but I can see all the newbies can hit the balls during teeing off. This is great.

Ping Hock and I agreed it was about time to go to the green. So, we shall go to the Green to get some real hands experience. The place is somewhere in Mandai, called the Executive Club. The date is Mon June 15, 2009 at 2pm. Ping Hock and I would like to encourage the newbies and also the experienced ones to join too. The cost is about $22.00.

Come and give it a go. I have already scheduled this date in my diary. Ping Hock said this is a fun golf course.

    Terence Seah

    . better to put on

    cheers

  140. Hi Ping Hock,

Re. Visit to EGC on Mon 15/6

Would like to go but cannot coz don’t have some of the golf gear you listed.

Will you be adjourning to TP range after the game at EGC?

    Cheers,

  141. Hi Ping Hock and All

Was hoping to play here but looks like I may have to give the EGC date a miss this time as I will be back in Perth by then. Still finding the weather too hot for golf….sigh. Also need to bring back a half set next time.

Well, those who wish to play golf in Perth are welcome to contact me when I’m back there in June.

    Have fun.
    Joan

  142. jass #208

as long as someone is attending, i’ll be present

by the way, if you have the interest i suggest you try to get a half-set
basically your swing moment is ok
even after owning a half-set, you can still practice the different swings on the range with the different clubs, except putting

but, some ranges also have putting areas ..

  143. Hi Ping Hock,

Hope to get a half set when I’m off the starter’s block. Now am still very blur about the game.

Next Mon (18/5) – will be at TP, but late – about 8.30p.m. C u and Tk u.

    Cheers,

  144. jass #211

take a walk round the range next time before u settle into a bay
u may notice some ‘starter block’ are behind yours
if u stick to the range, u may not get out of the blurness
once u do the course, u will better understand usage of each type of swing
so, count 1-2-3 and try the soft swing on the course..

  145. Hi Ping Hock,
Not sure what you mean – all bays look the same to me – from toilet end to the other end, and then upstairs – but I think the right side has more flies around the lights on certain evenings than the left.

As for going to the course when I’m still using iron-6, I don’t want to put the cart before the horse. May end up with many white elephants.

    Cheers,

  146. y chin #213

would be nice if u could join 15jun game @ EGC
    confirmed attendance: terence,ong,nor(good chance)

    jass #214

    look at how others swing
dont be upset, but i think u should not think to lowly of yrself, look and learn ..

    cheers

  147. Hi Ping Hock, Jassmine, Nor and All

Will be back to join you all perhaps end of the year. Hope to join some membership then and play.

    Happy golfing
    Joan

  148. Dear Joan,
How time flies! Wonder who was it who said ‘Time and tide waits for no one’. How true and it’s scary – the swift passage of time. I wish you a safe journey home to Perth and look forward to your next visit in November.

    Take care.

  149. Ping Hock

Terence@206…why 2pm & not morning?..so hot, itu macam my tan complexion become more ‘chow tar’ lah…nonetheless i will still tag along, who knows…i’ll be a black swan at the greens!..haha..kesian!

    Joan@209..
Alamak its a pity u cant join us..perhaps next time we visit you in Perth we shall have a game.
You have a pleasant trip home ok :)
Pls send my regards to bubbly cute Mary

    terence banyak gembira kan..

dont worry sun, wear hat la
balls boleh beli la, banyak banyak boleh kasih kawan kawan

so final formation for 15jun EGC 1400h:
    terence
    brian o
    nor
    yoon chin
    dolly
    lina?
    jassmine?
    ron lee?
    ivan lim?

    pls remember golf set,shoes,cap,sunblock,balls

  151. Hi Dolly,

Thanks. Will join you all if free.

Nor #221, Banyak terima kasih. Makan apa lagi? Bukan baju tak boleh pakai, lagi nak makan?

  152. Something I would say is if you have been to the range for say 3 times, is you should get yourself on the green. Not very often you can get someone familiar with the game to bring you to a real course. So come along, a few clubs and glove will do. If not, try to borrow. It’s the only way to get ahead with golf as a game or hobby.

    Terence Seah

  153. hi

    some info about EGC
    9hole mini course: 7 par3 + 2 par4 (hole2 & hole5)
course fee: weekday s$21.40, trolley s$3.00(optional)

    as courtesy:
setup & swing, do not treat as practice range
just hit & go, especially if there are other groups behind
be alert & watch out for stray balls coming from nowhere..
    drink well before tee-off

    cheers

  154. Hi Ping Hock #223,
As you know I’m not eligible to play at EGC.. hope to join when I’m ‘fully’ equipped.

Some questions: 1. I saw a no. 3 driver and an iron-3, also a no. 5 driver. Should I buy all the three clubs?

    2. Is there a light-weight golf bag in the market?
    3. Is there other footwear we can use besides the proper golf shoes?

I’ll be at TP range next Mon (1/6)- abt 8.30p.m.

    Cheers,

  155. Hi again Ping Hock,

I was reading a book on golf and I realized I made an error in golf terminology. My qn 1 (# 229), the no. 3 and no. 5 drivers should be 3-wood and 5-wood respectively. My apologies if you got confused.

  156. jass #229

we are jus going to have some fun time, i hv no idea what u mean by ‘not eligible’..

EGC is mini course, no driver or woods also can play, need more strokes la..

most golf shops sell ‘sunday bag’, it is meant for half sets (eg: driver, 5wood, 7iron, 5iron, wedge, putter)

maybe u can use track shoes on EGC, nobody checking..
make sure your track shoes look like golf shoes

btw, 8.30pm is too late for me

  157. Hi PH #231,
“not eligible” cuz I don’t have some of the golfing gear (#208) you listed at #207.
Since EGC is not strict, will consider going there for a look-see-play. Will confirm by next week.

I see that you are going to TP tonight, so you ‘teach’ Dolly and co. first then when I arrive at 8.30, you give your attention to me – five minutes will do. I’ll be using 7-iron tonight.

    Cheers,

  158. jass #236

oic, no need follow list so closely
as bare min, have a iron (eg.7iron) + putter
try join this trip, u will understand swings in better perspective

ok, will wait for u around that timing
    c u later..

  159. helo puan Lina@224..
Jangan cakap kuat2 kasi orang dengar..sangat malu lah!…haha

    Dolly..
Yes!..im coming, wait for me at usual place,
miss Bira is coming too…after her long ‘dissapearing’ act!..hhhmm.. :)

no problemo, u r most welcome
as title says, its mainly for fitness

many people always response with ‘wa, golf expensive le’
but as u hv experienced yr club is only s$3

note 3 types of golf play: social, competition, fitness

what we doing now is for fitness
and we are going for social golf on 15jun..

  173. hi lau si PING HOCK ,

Look forward to joining you all when I’m back. Will come prepared with my golf clubs then and play. I hope to play in JB or Bintan. Perhaps if anyone is arrnging, let me know.

BTW, Nor, if you come to Perth, let me know. Yes,we can play at nearby golf courses. I have spare clubs and plenty of golf balls, so no need to bring any. Others welcome too. Will give your regards to bubbly Mary.\

    Cheers
    Joan

  175. sam g #260

not need sorry, if anyone coming just inform me
else i maybe somewhere else ..

    follower not allowed on course
its better u come near end of game & wait at golf shop

on normal courses, pc or handicap are required
this is to ensure players are aware of golf rules/etiquettes

eg. when your ball is in danger of hitting someone, you must shout ‘fore!’

eg. if you take more than 5min for a hole, you should allow the team behind to overtake

etc, etc, … its all in the golf rule book

so for those playing on 15jun, please look out for stray balls – it is very serious to be hit by a flying golf ball
someone was hit ‘slightly’ on her leg & she need to rest for a week.. watch out !!

btw, for those intending to play in jb, my advice is u need to be able to drive at least 150m
else u may end up full of frustration ..
just my advice, u dont hv to believe me

so far, most hv not tried the driver
    shall we start tomoro ??

  176. Miss Dolly.
Yes we coming!,cos our ‘tournament’ coming soon rite?..haha
we wait at usual place, tku :)

    SamG@258..
Yes!…golf is a fun game..it gives u the drive to hit far & correctly…& not different directions, like i always do..hehe..paiseh!…that’s why must practise often.

Besides for fitness..we can socialise with members..bagus rite?..we can cakap2 & laugh..its healthy too!..so u must come everytime ok..like now…im ‘addicted’ to come also on monday besides friday!..hhmmm..

    Joan@262..
Next time when we go Perth.. we’ll call you for a game or two…hopefully by then we are better ‘players’!…haha, dreaming lah!
Sure we can play at JB courses in your next visit here..

    PingH
Saya tak ada driver..how?..alamak my fren promised to give me(driver & putter) last friday..but he also ‘ponteng’!
this friday…i must make sure he bring,if not nanti pegi EGC, incomplete banyak susah lor..hhhmmm
    Bira…tonite u bring driver ok..cos PH’s is man’s..

PH,btw..i watched the golf channel recommended by you…wah!very shiok see all the players!its very entertaining indeed!

  192. this is timing u may wanna upgrade your equipment

yc half set looks nice, pls check with her..

    as reminder, since ‘nobody listen’:

    play S’pore, need handicap (HC)
    play JB, no need

    to get HC
1.join club – cheapest: mygolfkaki, SSG – both got no estate
    2.pass PC test
    3.pass HC test

  193. forgot to mention ‘another’ way for HC

-join JB club, membership free, pay subscription
-get HC under yr JB club, got ‘special’ way, no need tests
-only problem, SG clubs may not accept this type of HC

  194. Nor #288, 1st cute girl, Karen. 2nd cute girl, Lin. Correct? Can I have my reward.

Dolly #289, Thanks, will let you know when the time comes.

  195. Correct lah miss Lina!
Your prize is…a prestigious title…Best cutest girl of SHC ,how’s that?..btw..u are not eligible to this guessing game lah cos u are our own kaki mah?…haha

  197. Hi Terence,
    #281
Have you purchased your replacement putter yet. If you haven’t, I have an extra one in Spr and will pass it to you when I see you next or via someone at TP driving range next Monday 29/6, if members are there. You may borrow it permanently just as someone in Vivo city borrowed yours..haha.
    HC

  198. Miss Doll!

    Yes..i will be there..so is miss B…rite?
Tks for ur xport, but now I got ‘agreement’ with my ‘manager’ to curi the car on mondays….haha..if not i take mrt with the golf bag…very ‘mar fan’ disturb the peak hour crowd lah…v paiseh!…hehe :)

Perhaps one day…we shall visit Marina range?
    boleh tak teacher PH?..hehe

  199. i’m waiting till my neck macam giraffe ..

to play SG courses, you need PC or HC – ok ka, can remember

Marina is ‘proper’ course, to play there got 3 ways:
    1. temp PC s$10 – 1mth
    2. PC s$70 – 1yr
    3. HC

better play JB first, same old prerequisite = min swing 150m

    … perhaps satu hari

  200. Helo mentor Ping!

Apa macam..saya cakap we go golf range…bukan course la..jangan bikin saya malu la…hehe
to play SG will take sometime(now can only dream,hhhmm)..meanwhile..we can peep at the course next to the range at Marina…so as to be inspired!…haha..sangat kesian tau!..:)

  201. nor #306

alamak! cakap baik baik la ..
sorry for misunderstanding, marina range anytime boleh pergi

no need dream la, just drive average distance enuf la
    cepat cepat le ..

  202. Hi Ping Hock and those who went to EGC recently,

On the weekend before EGC, I eagerly went to cash convertors to pick up one putter and one sand wedge. Costs me $9 for both. Really good value. Thanks Jassmine for offering to lend me your putter. I was so excited about going to a real course, and pack everything ahead of the morning. But before anything else could materialise, I was whisked by ambulance to the hospital. So sorry to keep all of you waiting.

For those wanting to get a starter golf set, PingHock’s recommendation of cash convertor is good. Golf is a good healthy game, great for social networking too. Have fun tonight.

    Terence Seah

  203. terence #313

hi boss, we are still waiting for your esteemed presence le .. when are u ready for next round ?

btw, for those done with beginners’ stuff and want to upgrade, u can look out FarEast SC for used golf sets
also value for $, but more $ required here ..

    those who can try Tanglin,

the course is really small ..
dont whack too hard, ok, nanti kena some human bodies, chia lak man ..

  204. Sengh, it was said in another thread that you had gal (or was it gall?) problem and was hospitalised for that. But the rumour for you and abt you is, you actually competed with some monkeys to see who reached the coconut tree top first and plucked the most coconuts (in yr case, you wanted to make some totti for the bollywood nite). You were actually doing fine until distracted by a female monkey……

Monkeys are monkeys and tell me, which monkey wears a bra?

You and only you can confirm whether there’s turth in the rumour.

(Btw, folks who have been writing to my office email, pls do continue to write to my personal email at tnotswit@hotmail.com as I will be serving the last day of my notice tomorrow, and wont be contactable via my office email.

  205. PingHock, Nor, Bira, YChin and Jass,

  209. Hi Yoon Chin @#319,

Thank you for the very helpful bus service info. I checked up the bus guide and got frightned by the long and convoluted route. I think it’s better to catch the service at Alj MRT.
Anyway, for my maiden trip, I’ll follow a girl guide, so won’t get lost.

    C u there coming Mon.

    Cheers,

  210. Hi Nor @# 321,

It’s so nice of you to offer your girl guide service. I’ll meet you at the T Pagar MRT at 6.35p.m. Wait at the passenger service counter?

  212. Hi Ping Hock,

Have you been playing in JB since the last game with you and Mark in SCC?

Please keep us informed if you are playing in JB with your students.

Siew Hoon and me and may be other golf players would like to join if the date and time are right.

    Thanks

    Bessie :)

  213. bess #326

now doing austin, rcc regularly with non-shc pals ..

the ladies should be able to go JB soon, after few more trips to EGC

would be nice to have you pros to come and share some guidance … :-)

    puan nor,

apa macam, bila pergi poresia …

  214. Hi Ping Hock,

I like the Austin Hill old course.

I and Siew Hoon will invite you for a game in RCC once Siew Hoon confirm the date and time.

May be you can consider bringing the ladies to Permas Jaya with 9 holes of par 3, 4 & 5 on weekdays. Good training for beginners with wide fairways.

To Daiman 18, quite near to Permas Jaya, when they play better.

    Cheers

    Bessie :)

  215. bess #328,

thanks, pls let me know in advance, need to take leave..

the ladies can hit straight, no need wide fairways :-)
    i think …

  216. Hey, we had an unexpected 5-min adventure last evening. Sharing…

Down the quiet, dimly-lit Rhu Cross
    The nifty little car cruised
When suddenly a bus the driver spied.
Knowing that if her passenger this bus missed,
It’d be a long, lonely wait
    For the next service one-five-eight.

So, resolved the gutsy driver the bus to overtake.
The plan: to reach a bus stop before the bus,
So her passenger could alight and catch it.
But in a cheeky mood the bus driver seemed:
He kept his right signal lights flashing
While keeping his bus, on the left, speeding.

    The car slowed,
But the bus did not cross over.
    Baffled, she soon got wise to his cheap thrill;
Ignoring the flashing right lights, down the right lane,
    Past the bus, she zoomed;
    And now a bus-stop loomed.

    Meanwhile the passenger, adrenalin pumping,
Had already her seat belt removed,
    Bracing for a quick exit.
Spying the bus not far behind,
    The car driver her hazard lights flashed;
The car stopped. Out of it the passenger dashed.

    Now I waved at the bus just metres behind;
    The bus driver, countenance benign,
The bus door opened, and in I hopped.
The chase over, I at my seat recalled,
    When as a schoolgirl, the bus oft I had to run after;
Stressful times then, now a nostalgic reminder.

    THE END
    (All rights reserved)

  217. The quiet of dimly-lit Rhu Cross
    Was lost
When a nippy little car carrying Amah
    Tried to overtake a bus
    Driven by Ah Bah

The plan: to stop the bus
So Amah could alight to catch Ah Bah
But dashing Ah Bah wasn’t in her same dream
He kept his right middle finger signaling and flashing
While keeping his bus, on the left, speeding.

Ignoring his flashing right middle finger, she zoomed
    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
Did Amah and Ah Bah come to grief and doom?
    Well, almost
Sitting dazed by the roadside, their mouths foamed.
To tidy their ruffled hair, they borrowed my comb.

    THE END
    (No rights reserved)

  218. Hey Tim @#337,

You can’t leave the amorous couple by the roadside! So, here’s the conclusion:

Now looking at each other at close quarters,
    Both suffered a rude shock:
She had thought he was an Ah Kong,
He had thought she was a Suzie Wong!

    Embarrassed, muttering something inaudible,
They quickly from the scene disappeared.
    Now Amah has no more desire to roam;
Now Ah Bah kuai kuai works from home.

    The REAL end.

    Cheers

  219. “He had thought she was a Suzie Wong!”

Haha, Jass, Ah Bah flashed his middle finger at Suzie Wong bcos he was a somehing wrong and only at men he cheong………..

“Amah and Ah Bah have to dash to the hair salon after taking a deep breath….”.

Thanks Yoon Chin for filling in but being the refined you, you stopped short of what actually happened. And what actually happened reads like this

“Amah and Ah Bah had to dash to the hair salon after taking a deep breath…and in the saloon they searched deeply for the best breasts but found them not in either but in the masseuse’s monkey who was so tickled that it grinned like George Best.”.

  220. hi

actually there’s nothing i’m offering now since all of u already know the basic swing ..

your next step should be practice on the course + self adjustments

  221. Teacher Teacher,

  222. hi

its bit inconvenient for me to go TP on weekdays after work from bedok
i will do weekday practice at MB
please carry on with your practice @ TP or whereever & we can also share info on this thread

  223. Hey PH,

Don’t quit TP altogether, please! Do keep an eye on my swings for a few more weeks till I’m good enough to go for the handicap test, can? I was on the verge of investing in some golf gear before you dropped your bombshell!

Go to TP once a month, ok? Today I take a break, since no sifu around.:(

    JassmineT

  224. jass #354

to be fair, each time i comment u seems to disagree..
but its not important, u need to find yr own style

again not listening .. dont ‘invest’ anything till u can swing well and start on the course

starting swings on range will NOT enable anyone to get handicap, need to practice on course many times ..
why need handicap in first place? to play on courses

i hv tried with much patience to guide some of you on the basics, there are far more capable golfers in shc ..
with all these efforts, i still kena blame for dropping bombs, sigh ..

  225. Hi PH,

Don’t be discouraged. Your student is very grateful for all the tips and answers from you. I’ll go to TP and practise and self-adjust when I’m free and hope for the best.

Hope to see all of you at TP one day.

    Cheers,

  226. jass #356

thanks for being gracious & understanding..
hope u agree to my 1 request which is to see you at Tanglin golf course on any weekday 1800h for ONCE

  237. Hi All,

I wonder if there’s another option in golf footwear. This afternoon I happened to see in a golf shop (in Taka)Crocs golf sandals! These golf sandals can be used on and off the green.

My concern is whether our local golf courses will allow its use in their golf courses. Anyone knows?

  238. Aiyo, Nor sayang, how 2 go har, sales starts today n end sun but hor, we will b at Padang liao..

Hi Jassmine, I would prefer to get golf shoes den sandals lor… Dolly

  239. Dolly…
Ya lah…my heart wanna go..but the feet malas le!
tonite must do last minit packing!

    Jass..
Never heard ppl golf wearing sandal?…ada ka?..but think
we look weird..comfortable,stylo shoes look more ‘professional’& presentable la…
sandals are for jalan2 & playing at the beach!..rite?

  240. Hi Ping Hock (Captain),

Please inform your golfers to visit website http://www.mbgc.com.sg for dress code.

Most courses will not allow golfers in golf sandal. They may be accepted if there can produce medical document to support their leg problem.

At a swing speed of 60 to 80 mph, ask them to try wearing sandals and then change to a golf shoe, they will certainly see or feel the differences. Be careful, they may hurt their back or twist their leg.

All golf rules and regulations is published for all golfers to enjoy their game.

    Cheers

    Raymond

  242. Hi Raymond @# 382,
Thanks for the info on golf sandals.

    Hi PH,
I saw two clubs, one with the words ‘sand iron’; the other one has the letter ‘S’. Are these sand wedges?

I think next Thurs is a good day to go to TGC. Hope the others can make it too.

  246. nor #389

most welcome, tapi mesti cepat cepat ok ..
    dont forget clubs,balls,glove,cap,shoes

if u need trolley, i think better be there before 6pm
cos the starter guy disappears after that ..

for me, just 3 clubs, so no need trolley
also i got clip on pouch to store the balls

  247. “for me, just 3 clubs, so no need trolley.
also i got clip on pouch to store the balls”

    Really ? Maybe not.

You bring 3 clubs, she brings 3 cubs and another wears 3 cups (and when it gets hot, she will remove all 3 cups) and so there can be quite many things for the trolley to carry.

Finally, when the gals have had enough of the game, shagged & tired, they will hop into the trolley. Good that you keep some balls in the pouch. Take them out and give them to the gals as you push the trolley with them playing the balls in there, back to the club house.

    So you need the trolley.

  248. great!

now need to play 4 times faster :-)
gentle reminder: bring more extra balls
sometimes cannot find balls under the bush ..

    tee-off 6.15pm sharp
if i late, dont wait, u all start first
    i can catch up..

  249. PingHock..
Your TGC not as cool as EGC la…
so small & yet lots of trees & all!…when mine went into the bushes, tried to retrieve..ada big pimply ugly frog!..irks!..susah!
    & no ‘longkangs’? haha..

Nonetheless..it was good exercise, rite Jass?..walk & walk cepat2 cos wanted to beat the sunset, suddenly so dark, cant see where our bola landed?..din realise all 3 bolas masok bunker!
    YC played like a pro!…
    PH..no need to say la…like Tiger!..hehe

We shud play more often on mini courses..its so different whacking at ranges!

    Bira/Dolly
    Next time must come hor…u all tak ada..very lonely..no cakap2,no makan2,kesian le…..haha :)

Raymond@382..once a while come & play with us at the greens la..then we can hv some secret tips, boleh tak?

  250. nor #395

    aiyo, TGC not mine la..
in case u r not aware, golf is about accuracy

eg. for par-3 holes, u should do 3 strokes to get ball into hole – this is called par

many golfers are weak in short games
just like recent WGC – pradraig lost to tigers even with big lead .. if he had practiced @ TGC maybe he could win the us$1.2mil top prize!

  251. Hey Nor,
You really saw an ugly frog in the bushes? Aiyah! You didn’t blow it a kiss – it could be Prince Charming!

    Hi all,
Sharing a first experience at TGC…

    We were four –
Two were there for serious practice,
Their swings the target they didn’t miss.
One was there for golfing glamour,
All decked out in complete golf attire.
I was there for an eye-opener,
And the only genuine blur player!

The novices were easy to spot –
    Their balls could not land in the green;
Off the mark they went and could not be seen.
    Oh dear! How to move on, I started to wonder;
There was no frog prince in shiny armour.
    Eventually something we did to meet the target;
What was it? Ah, it will remain a novice’s secret!

Suffice for me to say –
    Golf is frustratingly challenging;
A gentle game, but time consuming.
    In humid weather, plenty of sweating;
And from green to green, plenty of walking.
It’s tiring trudging the undulating terrain,
But, I shall be back again!

    (*All rights reserved.)

Looking forward to the next outing…

  252. Helo Jass..

Alamak donno how to play but still wanna look glam la!
at least i get the attire correct right?..haha

Well…that day was a bit late..so the sky darken so fast..
no fun ,we have to play cepat2..how to be accurate!..hhhmm
now im thinking…shall we go ECG again..this wednesday or friday?…i very ‘shiok’ oredi la..

I ask Bira..she said if after game got JB trip..then she want?…apa macam la?..so naughty!..hehe!

    PingHock..
Today me & Dolly not gg golf practise cos we got hot date!
that’s why i said…want to go EGC..before fasting this weekend la!

  253. Yeah!..
YC,if nobody wanna go…we 2 be lovebirds & play..who knows we can catch birdie! or even meet true blue!..haha
I don hv ur hp…can u message me & we can discuss ok pls :)

  254. Yesterday Tiger lost..so sad! to see his facial expression..its heart-rending!..not easy to be No.1 & then get defeated..hhmm..

    PingHock…YC & me gg to EGC friday,pls come,boleh tak?
How about Jass?..aiya Dolly not in town..
Bira..apa macam…mari ikut la..if not i donno how to get there if drive alone..kesian deh!

  255. datin nor #401

friday = working day, cannot suka suka ..
i go egc every sunday 1pm la..
    very hot, very healthy

happy that tiger lost, at last an asian wins!!

  256. Hi Nor & YC,

I’m so tempted to join you. Is it 7am? Aiyah, am not looking forward to rising so early …hmm ..will confirm by Thurs noon.

BTW, is there ample parking? Actually I don’t know the way to EGC! Now I must go and look for my street directory…

  257. PH…
U very jahat…so happy he lost..ooi!..kesian his face u know..but of course im happy that an asian won la..

Ok..u work kwai kwai…we all suka2 lady of leisure gg to have fun!..hee

    Jass..
    Aiyo..parking plenty la..can park anywhere u like!
after the game…we can also proceed to ranges if still not satisfied!

  258. Hi Nor,

Wah you already starting to have passion to be on course, wait till you get your first par or birdie then you know how Tiger feels when he gets a boogie. He was more upset on himself playing a very poor final round of about 3 boogies, something he never does on a final game. Losing is one thing but playing a poor round is like a singer singing a bad note during a big performance.

Anyway you are getting there and soon we will see a different Norlinda once she can starting getting pars and birdies. Call me lah when you are ready to play in JB or SCC 18 holes.

    Cheers

  259. Hi Ronald..
Ala..don make me malu..im no match to be playing with you..still trying to get the balls in the rite directions & not flying everywhere!..haha
Im just beginning to get the hang of it only…
I realise its so different playing on course,u get the feel of the grass & all the obstacles…so v challenging!

So..u wanna come with us Friday?

  260. Hi Nor,

Nothing to be malu lah just play your own game. However this Friday cannot anyway you are in good hands already with Ping Hock.
Just take it easy like life and dont expect too much and you will quickly get the hang of your game. It is the only game where you are not totally in control of your game, the wind, the ground even a piece of grass can veer the ball off the hole.
I will wait for Ping Hock to arrange a game of 18 holes in JB or SCC. Meanwhile enjoy your new passion.

    Cheers

  261. Hi Nor,
Is tomorrow at EGC confirmed? Will join you and YC.
If don’t get lost, will be there about 10 to 7a.m. Now going to find an alarm clock!

    cheers,

  262. Yes!…sure jadi la..
Just now called YC..but she tak dengar,so desperate sms her oredi

So we meet tom at carpark behind the golf range..very nearby the ofis..abt 7.30am
Hopefully not many people…then we can gelek2..no teacher..haha

  263. madam nor, yc,

safra exe 9hole is very nice course, well maintained
it is also well patrolled by marshals, so you need to carry sand bottle all along ..

  270. Hi Nor @418

You very berani lah – whole day no food, no drink still dare play in the sun. Sure won’t pengsan? (touch wood!)

Safra EC is too far away for me to go. Will join you all at EGC if early morning or evening.

Ok, enjoy your golfing on 2/9.

    Cheers,

  271. Jass..
I wont pengsan la..never happen ppl fasting can toink!..haha..funny..u can try one day..sure boleh

Btw,SAFRA & MB are not far,its all in Spore..wait till we go JB to play!..hehe

I heard from my mentor LinChuah..she travelled everywhere to have a game!..so fun!..hhmm..im dreaming!
Not forgetting my v patient sifu PingHock who effortlessly coaching & attend to our requests to go ‘playground’..thank you!

  272. Hi YC
OK, noted, dinno got such coverage..come to think of it..ya la…that day at EGC, we walked in the fairways(forgot safety-first!) without realising there’s a group wanted to tee off!…kena marah!..luckily we heard, if not sure ‘benjol’..ooppss!

  273. “Nor, …..suggest you get yourself covered by golf insurance”.

Normally, the chance of getting hit by a golf ball on course is as remote as gettting struck by lightning but of cos the risk increases enormously if the she runs after every flying ball and hides them for fun so that the golfer cant find it and asks “where my ball leh?”.

Like that, the insurance should not only cover ball hits but also golf club hits…or even run down by the buggy. Hehe……………….

  274. aiyo, golf course NOT playground la ..
someone kena ball on leg and need to limp one week
if kena kelapa, mati la ..

course golf = swing + rules

now u know some bit of swing, please read bit of golf rules la .. do bit of homework

sometimes common sense like: dont swing when ball may hit someone in front whether straight or not
if ball in danger of hitting anyone, just shout ‘fore’ or ‘ball’ as loud as you can – dont look look whether ball is really on target, else …

so back to square one, if swing is straight and long, no need so troublesome, enjoy more on the course, tau ?

  275. OK..will do some h/w..must read ah?..alamak,like gg to skul?

Jass..that time i saw u read some books at TP..boleh pinjam tak?.. got rules & regulations topic?

    Helo Mr T..
I nvr curi bola la…i got plenty in my bag..enough to play few rounds!…

  276. Hi Nor @ 430,

You can read the rules and regulations, golf etiquette, dress code..all from the internet. Each golf course has its own rules..

The golf books I read were mainly on how to swing and putt. I borrowed those books. Now am reading “Winning Golf” by Peter chamberlain. Can pinjam you this book. I can hang on to this book for another month.

Ok, when I reach crazy level for golf, then will go even to Timbuctoo for a game. lol!

    Cheers,

  277. PH,

Even datuk’s golf course must follow the ‘universal’ golf game rules, else his game cannot be called golf. What I meant were the ‘house’ rules every golf course/club sets. In the US, some golf courses disallow the wearing of blue jeans.. another one allows the wearing of soft-soled athletic shoes…

  278. helo my golf kakis!

  281. Hi Ping Hock, Jass, Nor and All

I would like to join you all for a golf game – haven’t been around for a long time but will be in S’pore from Nov onwards. Besides the range, is it possible to play at a public course in S’pore, JB etc? If so, am keen if there’s a group.

    Joan
