Nostalgic songs of yesteryear!

Dear SHCians, 2008 has gone and we have just started on 2009. How will we fare this year with the recession in our midst. What upcoming events will we look forward to and what activities have we in mind to contribute to the SHC’s fraternity. As Terence has put it, we must dare to dreams and do what we have not done before. Hopefully more of you with ideas will come forward and share with us.

As the heading suggest, I have in days gone by listen to beautiful songs and music that kindles the spirit and the soul. I have listens to the music by ‘Los Indios Tabarajas’ and was overwhelmed by the instruments that brought forth those exquisite tunes. I lost my copy of this group and been hunting high and low for it. Perhap someone may tell me where to get it. Another group that moves me by their songs and music is the ‘Ray Coniff Singers’.

This is also an opportunity for music and songs lovers to share and perhap meet together!

  1. Thank you Patrick for sharing with us the beautiful website. It has a good selection of nostalgic oldies and the website is simple to navigate and use and most meaningful it comes with the lyrics.

  3. Thanj you Celia.

We had a good workout laat nite and in that sneak preview, I managed to sneak my eyes all the way up the slits of the kebaya clad pretties. Catching me ogling, they had promised to slit it even higher on Sunday nite so let’s wait to see how high the cuts will go………..

When you put komodos abd iguanas together, their first love is not to sing but to mate……..and then you get a lot of ahguanridingmotors after a 3-week gestation period. If you grind these offsprings, they make healthy, tasty aginomoto with no side effect but pls dont make them sing…………….

  4. Ooops, sorry Tim n Danz,

All the best this Sunday, yah.

Well, if you guys are really into music, there are a couple of iguanas, komodos that could do with some croanings!! cheers

  5. Celia, Danz and I to sing this saturday? I too heard of that, amd heard a bit more…that Elvis Yam, Barbara Pak, Elton John Howe, Aaron How-Kwok, the OsmondsAlmonds, the OsamasObamas will all sing thsi Saturday at the mandai zoo to enliven the animals which have been sulking over the recession…………

But on Sunday, some of us will stare the at the starry stark hoping to see some sparks……….so will give it our best shot.

  6. “Tim,………we are sure you would share with us what make you tick!” Huh, Dan-H, are you serious?

Ticks make me tick…..so you still want?

You are a nice guy most of the times, a funny guy some of the times and no doubt a guy all the time………….

  7. Hi Esther,

Thanks for sharing, you certainly enjoyed a wide repertoire of songs and music. From enchanting songs by Andy Williams to jazz and opera music and sentimrntal chinese music.

Life can be so beautiful because mankind can express their joy and jubilations in songs.

I like songs of Johnny Mathis and Jim Reeves and chinese melodious music and songs though beat me I dun understand the lyrics.

Let’s just be grateful that we still have the ability to sing and listen, without which what would life be!

Tim, thanks for your imaginations! Being a talented singer we are sure you would share with us what make you tick!

  10. Hi Henry,

Thanks for sharing with us the jukebox. Really good selection from the 1950 till now!

Daniel Chan, I agrees with Jie too. The list of songs is even better with the lyrics. Thanks, it does bring back good feelings from the past!

    Dan

  11. Hi Henry & Daniel Chan,
Thank you for the music sites….had either running whilst working on the computer….but sometimes got distracted when a song fills me with nostalgia. But hey…it brings me back to the good old days……..Jie

  12. Found this online jukebox listing top 100s from 1950. It is very convenient as you select the year and it will play all the songs continuously randomly and u can just get back to your work or whatever u r doing (don’t forget to minimise it!). The site also gives lyrics and info of singers. Real great site : http://www.tropicalglen.com/

Geok Suan, dun think I have any VCD player lying around. any chance to convert to cd format. Must listen to this McSweeny’s and see what it like.

    Dan

  16. Hi Dan,

I have a VCD of McSweeney with his guitar singing golden oldies. We can sing along with him or just listen as though we are attending his concert. When is next monthly gathering after Jan’s with facilities for playing VCDs

My family in KL often hold reunions and we often listen to or sing along with McSweeney and others. DVDs are so good. Make us imagine that we are attending concerts.

    Geok Suan.

  17. Hi Celia,

Thanks Celia for sharing and recommending the shop. I see you are deeper in the appreciating of good music and songs!
