Monthly walk: Sat 14Mar, PLR 4

TO the Daring, Bold, Adventurous!

This morning, from my windows I see the grey sky and I said a prayer… now the sun is up and shining!  THIS is the Day that the L… has made!
The last 2 days the weather has been clement!

GET SET, READY, GO!!!!!       emoticon
see you this afternoon at 4pm, Blk 259 Bt Panjang
(Update: 14March09 11:16am)

Dear SHCians! We have come to our last PipeLine Ramble!  We have scaled up walls, cross fences, jumped across ‘canals’…… PLR4 might be the toughest of all because of certain challenges, yet to take on!This trail leads us through green pastures; give your legs a good workout as you climb from 1 slope to the next… each steeper than the 1 before.  At last, on top of a slope, standing on a small space enough for 2; to take a breather ….. turned, look back,,,,,,  a ‘gasp’; Wow! so steep!!   Reality dawns; a smile broke forth with glee……. I DID IT!!!?     emoticon

In PLR2 we walked on a pipeline, a small ‘section’.  Someone had asked: Can we walk the entire length?   Such a chance is HERE!

Challenge:  walk ON the entire length of a huge pipe!  No turning back as it is the only way to the opposite side.
This pipe seems broader; definitely longer, approx 200m.

Next,   ever stepped on something soft?   I mean, really soft…..aargggghhh, a rare experience!

This trail might be Challenging for some;  to others, definitely a Challenge not to be missed!!!!!  ADVENTURE!….Excitement!…. awaits!        emoticon

Start Time:  4pm SHARP.  (Route 8 – 9km.  Be punctual, due to the challenges, might take 3hrs).

Meeting Point:   Blk 259 coffeeshop, along Bt Panjang Road (same place where PLR3 ended).

How to Get there:
(i)  Choa Chu Kang MRT transfer to Bt Panjang LRT – Bangkit station.
Exit LRT,  keep left – see Blk 255 /Bt Panjang Ring Rd, walk forward, look for
Blk 259.
(note:  from Choa Chu Kang MRT to Bangkit LRT – allow 15-20mins, waiting
& travel time).

OR
(ii)  Buses along Bukit Panjang Road alight at either Blk 223 or Blk 270
(depends which direction you are coming from)  –  bus nos. 171, 187, 190,
700A, 960, 963, 966.

Walk will End:  at Woodlands Town Garden @Woodlands Centre Road / Woodlands Centre Point.Take 950 or 911 to Marsiling MRT.  Other bus services available: 178; 856; 903; 911; 912; 913; 170.

NOTE:
1)  DO wear proper walking, covered shoes; use an old pair; ‘non-slip’.
2)  If mozzies are attracted to you, bring insect sprays.3)  There are no ‘toilet’ facilities & no shelter from raindrops.4)  Bring only the minimum, ‘light’ on the back is ideal!

An Exception:  due to the terrain of this trail, should the weather be inclement either on Friday night or Saturday morning, for the safety of all participants, the walk might be cancelled.   emoticon    (ps: Trail heads Northwards).

*****On Saturday, 14Mar 12noon: check this post …..         emoticon
We shall advise

Background of this Trial
:
What is this PipeLine Ramble – PLR? Most of you would know that a water
pipeline runs from Johor to Singapore but have anybody thought to trace the pipeline route"?

The entire trail is approx 30km! We had intended to introduce this trail in 3 separate segments but had decided to segment it into 4 parts.
Each part of the route has a different terrain and each opens up a part of
Singapore seldom seen.

PLR1: in Apr08 the 1st segment, from Pearl’s Hill to Farrer Road.
PLR2:  Aug08 Farrer Road to Turf City (the pixs are found in the same post
dd 23July08).
PLR3: Oct08 Turf City to Bukit Panjang Park (post dd 01Oct08, pixs are found
in the same post).

  1. Dear EOs,

I’m coming for this “mini hashing” but will walk with the pack instead of running. Please let me be the 1st one to register.

    Thank Q!
    Veronique

  2. Hi EOs,

I have missed the PLR3 walk. This time, I will not want to miss this exciting walk. Will dot it in my diary.

    Pls count me in.

    susan tan

  3. Susan-T, you missed walking and like to walk huh? If so, lucky you, I have plenty of walking for you……..

See, I need someone to deliver lunch boxes in the CBD where it makes no sense to park one’s car/bike. You’ll get to walk vertically and horizontally, and best, have a good view of the harbour and the barbers as they work thru lunch.

  4. Please include me Christina. Thanks.

During the last walk, I took an express bus, can’t remember which though 960, 963 or 966 from Bukit Panjang to Orchard Road via the BKE with Alice and Steven.

Can Alice or Steven recall or can anyone assist on which is the correct bus to board from Scotts Road? Thanks!

  5. Daisy,
From Scotts Road, it is either Bus#700 or 190..

For those taking LRT, pls take Service B which is shorter journey den Service A to Bangkit.

  6. This is to say how admirable you and the rest of the Walk’s team has been.

You must have rekindle the adventurous spirit in many SHC members. Hope to go too.

  7. #7 AndrewT, didnt realise tht it is school hols week… always FAMILY comes first, no worries. See you somewhere, some time!

Some parts of this trail might be tough, we look forward to having more helping hands this time. :D

    Cheerio!
    ChristinaCL Chan

  8. #8 DaisyY, yes… see you!

Sorry, had been busy so did not login last couple of days. Noticed Dolly has given the input… it is her ‘ti toh’ so she knows better hehe

#9 DollyL, “kam jie” “kam jie” ohoh may be ‘kam sie’ kam sie’ you’ve got it,,, Thanks! hahahaha :D

  9. Christina Chan.
Sorry to say I’m too chicken to join you this time. I’m not rugged enough. I will look forward to the next one if it’s not too difficult.
It’s true. You make a great EO!
    Have fun!

  10. #10 KathyD,,,, hearty THANKS to your kind thoughts! look forward to see you!

a sense of ADVENTURE! makes life Exciting! Sometimes it is good for the heart goes thump thump a little faster,,, improves blood circulation! hehehe

Some parts of this trail might be tough but I came out of it fine, so, I am sure others will do fine, if not better! More people more hands to help each other,,,,,

It is very unlikely we will do this segment of the trail again!! So wei wei “ka ka lai” ,,,,, :D

    Cheerio
    ChristinaCL

  11. #15 MaryC, aiyo, I know you can lah… you are not a softy physics-wise hor. I assure you, this is an adventure that one rarely gets a chance to do it in SG!

Thanks… I think it is noted that many times I seem to go “overboard” hahhaa I am one who likes to do things differently, wholesomely & with passion!! but I will not want to sail alone.

Having said that, we EOs needs Participation and Encouragement from SHCians at all times…
so each of YOU ARE IMPORTANT to drive every event to achieve results!

    Gracias!

    Sincerely,
    ChristinaCL

  12. Christina Chan.
8 to 9 km! Pengsan man! 6 km I can tahan. No lah, cannot tahan this walk. See you at the next one, if it’s not so rugged. Hee.

  13. Lina,

Where is this meeting point at Blk 259 coffee shop along Bt Panjang Road. I am very “suaku” around that area. In any case, I will follow you….follow you where ever you go……… :)

    Ah Nee

  14. Calling Molly, Ah Nee, Lina or whoever living ard Toa Payoh, Hougang or even AMK,

Can I get a lift from you? I am not familiar with the meeting place or else I will be like our blur like sotong James, the last time, signed up but never get to join them for the walk.

    Kam Siah!

  15. Susan Tan,

Bt Panjang, not my territory leh. I reside in the North East, not familiar with the meeting place also, but hor, we can go together lah. You follow me and then we all follow Lina…….heheheeee…fun right?

    Ah Nee

  16. Hi All,
For travellg from Toa Payoh, take Bus 105 or 156 and align at bus stop after Tanglin CC n walk toward the overhead bridge to take Bus 190 from opposite side. Align immediately the bus after d expressway ended. Walk towards traffic junction n shd b able to find Blk 259 Kopi shop liao..

For those taking MRT, pls align at CCK station and xfer to Bus 190 i/o of LRT cos bus route is more direct. Align b4 the bus turn into expressway. Of cos, if take LRT, align at Bangkit station and walk towards the Mosque there, you shd be able to find Blk 259 around there..

Hope this info can be some help to some of you lor.. Happy walking… Cheers. … Dolly

  17. Hi Ah Nee and Susan Tan,

Bt. Panjang is Dolly’s territory. But, Dolly got very important assignment overseas. Wait I go check Directory and you all can follow me. How about that?

  18. Hi Dolly

I have a suggestion for those taking bus 190 from CCK station. I think it would be better to look out for Blk 259 which has a coffee shop on the ground floor and be prepared to alight at the very next bus stop where there is an overhead bridge and located between blks 270 and 277. Better still, just tell bus driver to alert you when it stops at this bus stop. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Because I think, by the time one realized the bus has turned into the expressway, bo que liao lo…. bus will go all the way to Orchard Road.

  19. Hi Ah Nee #20

I will also follow you….follow you where ever you may go……… ha ha ha. c u next week but remember to wear covered shoes this time.

  20. Dear Orgr Team

Pls include me in the 14 Mar walk. Will find my way to Blk 259 Bt.Panjang that afternoon, if the walk is on.

See you all there. Rgds – Sarah

  21. “Dear Orgr Team………Pls include me………… Will find my way to Blk 259”

If there’s a typo in “Orgr”, do please also include me. I like everything that ends with a “gy”…….bungy, stingy, veggy, and soggy orgy with or without msg……………..

  22. Daisy yo…..you remembered the last walk, we had to step on muddy grass huh? To think of it, its quite enjoyable leh, you can hear the screaming & yelling as we walked thru the muddy grass……. surely it will be fun lah, if you follow me, but hor like you said….remember to wear covered shoes this time lah. Another alternative, is to bring 2 plastic bags to put on your shoes just in case………heheheeee again, fun right? :)

    Ah Nee

  23. Although this event is my favourite event,I think this time, I chicken out because it is really too tough for me.

I would like to thank Christina for her several emails to explain and assure me that based on my performance for the past monthly walks, I should be able to do it this time as well.

    King Seng

  24. #19 LinaN: noted registration for 4pax.

    #27 SarahZ: welcome, adventurous one!

#33 WeeChin: wow! long time… this mini hike is for you!

#30 JoyceT: thanks much for the reminder.. sure will miss you and Patsy ;o(

    Cheerio!
    ChristinaCL Chan

  25. #32 DaisyY, spike shoes? ahem, if one is comfortable in them, it should be fine, I suppose.

Definitely recommend a covered pair of walking shoes but an old pair where the soles are still good; as there are some areas a bit of ‘slosh slosh’ teeheheheh

    Cheerio!
    ChristinaCL Chan

  26. Dear SHCians – Walkers,

PLR4 is not easy because the slope is steeper than those in PLR2 + PLR3 and the pipeline we need to walk on, is longer.

PipeLine Rambles: those who had experienced the earlier rambles definitely know that these PLRs are not a walk in the park!

If you like Adventure then this mini hike is for you!
If you had enjoyed esp PLR3 & PLR4 you will surely enjoy this last challenge! :D

Last Fri/Sat in the West it had poured, pray this week will be much dryer ;)

    Regards,
    ChristinaCL Chan

  27. #44 RonaldL, Thanks much for your continuous support for our monthly walks…did not forget your helping hands esp in these PLRs, too.

    Cheerio!
    ChristinaCL Chan

  28. Hi,

I’ve missed all the previous walks.
This time round, I will make time for PLR4.
    I’m looking forward to it.
I’m staying in Tampines and unfamiliar with meeting place in Bt Panjang.
Anyone going there from the east side?

  29. #47 ThomasG, as there are a few Thomases in SHC, may I ask:are you the Thomas who were in the dance class at Clementi? :)

I am not familiar with Tampines nor Bt Panjang. However, Dolly had given some directions, please browse thru the earlier comments in this post.

Alternatively,,,, I will be going by cab, you can ride with me and another lady.

Take the train from Tampines to Queenstown, travel time is approx 50mins. You must be at Queenstown MRT by 3.30pm sharp! I can divert a little and pick you there. Please drop me an email with your contact# and we shall affirm then.

    Cheerio!
    ChristinaCL

  30. #50 AliciaS,,, my neck already much extended! G8 to hear you & Mike will join this adventurous trail!

At Marina Barrage, some had asked ‘where is “Mike”? as they couldnt hear me,,, hahaahha

    Cheerio!
    ChristinaCL

  31. Hi ChristinaCL,

We have to change our mind about going to the PLR4 walk this Saturday as we need to seek legal advice on some personal matter. Regrets.

    Lina, Suzhang & Ah Nee

  32. Hi Christina,

I’m not into any dancing. Too lanky, lah.

It’s ok. I will make the way to Bt Panjang myself, by hook or by crook. Thanks for the thoughtful invitation.

  33. Hi Thomas,
Cant help being kaypoh again. From Tampines, it will be good to catch any xport to Orchard and then take Bus# 190 which will ply from Orchard Road, Scotts, Stevens Rd, turn in PIE n BKE, alight at the first bus stop once BKE ended n walk towards the traffic light n there n walk over, u shd able to see blk 259. There is best option. Cheers.. Dolly

  34. #56 ThomasG, …oops sorry wrong identity. Lanky? mmmh perhaps vaguely I think we’ve met… I shant guess will know tmr :D

by hook or by crook…. see u at meeting place!

    Cheerio!
    ChristinaCL

  35. #57 Dolly, once again THANKS!

  37. Hi Christina

I got up from the correct side of my bed this morning and remember that I have a few old friends comming over my house at 3pm. Sorry I have to miss the walk.

  40. A big thank you to Christina and Jeffrey Lim for organising
another adventurous walk tru mountains, valleys and
    hailstones.

It was indeed a very fruitful and memorable trek, though I
was quite tired at the end of the trip and should have
mentioned to the rest of the team to buy dinner for both
of you. Shall kiv till next time, apology.

Some fotos of today’s trip are available at :

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/33073501@N02/

Pls feel free to view and download.

Oi Cheng, pls do the necessary.

    james

  41. Thank you, Christina and Jeffrey, for recce leading this ramble. I’m still up and about, feeling energetic and excited to meet so many wonderful and nice people.

Thank you, James, for the lovely memorable shots. I just show them to my wife:)
Looking forward to the next walk, if time permits.
I will be better prepared then, not to get my socks wet the next time.

  42. Many Thanks to all the EOs who took so much time and effort to recee and organise this walk for us. And Jeffrey thanks for recommending us the food at the Halal restaurant.

    My chicken chop tastes delicious.

  43. Thanks to Chris Chan and Jeffrey Lim for leading the final stage of the Ramble.

Well done! to those BOLD, DARING & ADVENTUROUS SHCians who had conquered all the obstacles (psychological and physical) and survived the Ramble 4 with a good workout and warm fellowship. Then we rewarded ourselves with a hearty sumptuous meal to replenish the lost calories? Am I right? Fetus!

Unfortunately, Molly is now nursing her wounds due to a fall and hope she will recover soon to take on to the next challenge.

Hi Jeffrey, we are looking forward to a very challenging ‘4 in 1 EXTREME RAMBLE’. When huh?

    Cheers to all!
    Veronique

  44. Chris, Jeffrey and other Eos – you guys did a wonderful job for leading us to such an exciting trail yesterday.

No doubt it is off-the-beaten track, but the views from the top of slopes and the dips is simply refreshing – so wide and green – where to get in Singapore? And for those who walk along the long pipeline .. must be unforgettably challenging .

I would like to go on but the sun is setting and it’s time to go home (but .. I’ll be back!)

  45. A Big Hello to Christina CL C, Jeffrey Lim and the other EOs,

Thanks for a very invigorating and memorable walk yesterday. It was very good despite the slight rain which accompanied us throughout the walk. Everybody took it in their stride and some even braved the slightly slippery pipeline. As I was crossing I was thinking that it was a good 7 foot drop to the mud below.

Thanks also to Michael for carrying those cartons all the way for the ladies to put their tender feet. He should be awarded the “Sir Walter Raleigh” Award for chivalry.

What do you think of a series of walks in M’sia? We could start with Malacca, exploring the architecture and food trail of the Peranakans, KL, trails along Frasers and/or C Highlands, (looking for Jim Thompson), Ipoh, following the Communist travails in Gua Tempurong and of course, Penang with the walks recommended by Stephen C?

    Cheers and thanks again.

PS I might be interested in the 4-in-1 PLR too.

  46. Tks Veronique for the antiseptic cream. I am fine. It was really fun and joy to get dirty dirty. Initially I was reluctant to carry on with the walk when dark clouds appeared and slight drops of rain came but since majority of you wanted to proceed with it, I also went with a heavy heart. Maybe thats the reason why I had a fall. HEHEHE. My poor white socks have to go into the chute. No more white socks when going for walk. Must bear that in mind.
Tks to the EOs for organizing the fun filled walk.

  47. Hi Regular Walkers/ others,

    This is NOT a gimmick.

If you happen to be looking forward to buy a new pair of walk/jog/run etc. shoes from Reebok, Adidas,NB,Saucony, etc..,look no further.

Royal Sporting House at Suntec City which has the most variety of sports accessories will offer you a 25% Discount for every pair of NEW shoes provided for each new pair you want to buy , you have to DONATE your old shoes but REUSABLE condition for donation to the Salvation Army charity.

Besides, sports shoes, there are many other sport accessories on offer ranging from 30% to 70% discount.

The old shoes need NOT be sport shoes even leather shoes are acceptable EXCEPT sandals/slippers etc..

( As long as it is a shoe,it is OK. )

Long Q yesterday , tommorow is the LAST day of promotion.

  48. Hi all,

Today NST front page shows the “chaotic” condition of people
rushing to see the I.T. show ( last day -yesterday).

Even at the MRT, it is already so crowded with locals and foreigners. Standing all the way home.In the past 5yrs. I was able to find a seat quite easily. Now has to “cheong” for seats as soon as train doors open

I dread to see how the situation will be like the time when Spore’s Population has reached its quota of 6 million.

  49. Steven,

That’s why I dare not go for the I.T. exhibition though I need to buy a LapTop, the crowd can made me “pengsan”. I leave it to my son to handle. He told me he get me a Compact HP LapTop (with camera?)cost $980. Wow, this evening is my first touch on my new LapTop…..

    Ah Nee

  50. Hi Ah Nee,

…..the crowd can made me “pengsan”.
I am not surprised. There were little fresh air and some pushing here n there. The whole mall suddenly become so HOT All of us in the crowds perspire profusely when the Air cond is on at full blast!

….He told me he get me a Compact HP LapTop (with camera?)cost $980. A V.Good buy indeed!

    Enjoy your NEW laptop.

  51. Hi Ah Nee,

Instead of visiting the fair at Sun tec , I detour and landed at Royal Sporting House.Lots of promotions and discounts I manage to get a few good buys but
    ALAMAK LONG Qqqqqqqqqq.

  52. May I borrow some words/phrases from above comments…

We almost had to call it off as the dark clouds loomed and the thunder was rumbling,,, but majority said “aye! aye!”; it was drizzling when we set off.

Thanks to each participant,, you had made this final PLR4 the most exciting ‘off the beaten track” adventure. Everyone took it in their stride. :D

This time when the final challenge, the “200m pipeline” appeared before us I had time to enjoy the sight of the glistening huge pipes! It must have been a relief to some when we saw a path on the right which is now ready to be used and provided a choice!

I am sure those who did walk on the 200m pipeline will not forget the thrill! I marvel at CharlesC ‘s thoughts,,,, “As I was crossing I was thinking that it was a good 7 foot drop to the mud below”. Thank goodness, no one fell from the pipe to the mud! except for a lady whose foot was caught in “the net” and tripped, thankful there was no sprain no fracture.

Thomas, I felt energized too after we had rested over dinner; was so wide-eyed I couldnt sleep till after 2am mmmmh should have gone for a midnite movie or something huh?

James, thanks for helping out as 1 of the camera man!
There are more pixs coming up,,, watch this space!

Once again! Thanks, “hugs & kisses” :D ChristinaCL Chan & JeffreyLim

  53. #78 Veronique,,,,, Yup, Jeffrey did mentioned it after he and me did the recce for this 4th ramble.

You know,,, we took one(1) year to complete this approx 30km PipeLine Ramble in 4 segments and you wanna do an EXTREME 4in1 in one day!!! hahahaahah

ai yo me not as fit as you hor! besides the last 6 months no exercise; so many festivities/celebrations have been eating & eating,,, I ta’boleh,,,, maybe maybe next year.
But I believe we shouldnt wait so long rite? How about you round up the participants and you EO this EXTREME RAMBLE? I will meet you guys at the trail end (too late with “hugs & kisses”) but with garlands to put on your necks hehehehe

For a start, there are some who will consider this EXTREME: definitely yourself, Charles Chua, Wee Chin, Alicia & Mike, Felix, Susan Tan, James Tan, JoyceT, PatsyL,,, and counting

ps: those who are not listed here yet is because I have not asked you earlier if you would consider to do an EXTREME CHALLENGE! :D

  54. #80 CharlesC,,,,
What do you think of a series of walks in M’sia? We could start with Malacca, exploring the architecture and food trail of the Peranakans, KL, trails along Frasers and/or C Highlands, (looking for Jim Thompson), Ipoh, following the Communist travails in Gua Tempurong and of course, Penang with the walks recommended by Stephen C?

SURE! It will not be a walk in the park though but ADVENTURE!!
ah,,, you could check with Lum Fook,,, he had similar thoughts back then,,,, perhaps you two can get together, rope in a few like minded pple to work out the routes, logistics,, :D

  55. Hi ChristinaCLC and Yew Kwong and others,

Shangrila has a dinner offer whereby a discount is given equal to the age of the birthday customer. So if your birthday is coming and you are 45 yrs of age, there will be a 45% discount, plus a samll cake as dessert. For those of you who have parents, aged 100+, the hotel will have to pay you for the dinner. Maximum of 8 per table.

So please celebrate your birthdays at Shangrila at a huge discount. If you can’t make a table of 8, please invite me along. I can at least provide transport.

But drinkers, note, this is only for dinner, not drinks, otherwise the hotel will lose a packet hosting $1000 bottles.

About the walks cum food tasting ‘tour’ in M’sia. I am prepared to provide my car for the current team of EOs to experiment a ‘tour’. There will be no forward recces, free n easy as usual. The walks will not be planned but will depend on whatever info we get when we arrive at the town.
    A possible itinerary will be:

Malacca- Walk from Portuguese Square to Jonker Str.
KL- Walk along Jln Bkt Bintang to sample all the food available there
Fraser’s Hill- Many trails available and we should be able to hire a guide to see the spiders and the birds.
Camerons- Also the same. here are some trails in Tanah Rata.
Ipoh-Those interested in how the communists lived can go for a walk in Gua Tempurong.
    Taiping-Walk up Maxwell Hill.
Penang-Penang Hill, Tourist walk to view the varios houses and buildings that Penang has to offer.

It goes without saying that for all the energy expended on the walks we should take care of our health and ensure we have the necessary ‘supplements’ to recycle our energy levels. Think char kway teow, peranakan, dimsum, nasi kandar etc.

We can also modify the ‘tour’ where we transport our bicycles along too. We just need one important SHC member to agree concurrently.

If there is enough interest, we can meet for a ‘exploratory discussion cum food tasting’ meeting.

So how about it, Christina and Yew Kwong?

  56. Charles Chua, ChristinaC and all
Yes Shangrila has this fantastic promotion which started yesterday. I was there yesterday and the food was fabulous. There were around 50 dishes, but I could only manage 6 or 7. We were lucky to get the oyster special. Loads of fresh oysters, 6 -7 varieties of French oysters, Tasmanian, even Irish oysters, shucked right there. The queue was long!
Charles, sparkling wine is included in the price, free flow. Soft drinks and fruit juices too, as well as tea and coffee.
The spread of dessert was great too and the birthday cake came at the end of it all. It’s still sitting in my fridge, uneaten.
You do not have to make up 8 persons. They allow a maximum of 8 persons, so if your birthday is near, go and celebrate there. It’s worth it!

  57. oh my,,, wat’s happening here!? hahahaha

    #91 CharlesC,
About the walks cum food tasting ‘tour’ in M’sia. I am prepared to provide my car for the current team of EOs to experiment a ‘tour’,,,, thanks man!

I really like all that you have written but w/o recce? climbing mountains & hills!,, bery bery challenging leh! Can do something like “walk horse see flower” (in Cantonese) aka “jalan2, makan2” huh? heheheeh

Probably you know by now, time is something I do not have. It used to be work but now it is work & family. Besides, I will not be available Apr+May; can slot in time during Jun to Aug, Sep onwards my 2nd grandchild will be here :D so double joy1 and doubly busy.
August might be good but, I believe you will want action sooner.

Why not start a new post? unless you wish to tie it with 1 of our monthly walks also can,,,, I am sure many would like to go along. If schedule is right, I will surely join in too so ‘chop’1 place in your car ;) ; after all, good FOOD is 1 of my love! kakakaka

BTW, thanks to you & Mary on the thumbs up about Shangri-la,,, I havent been there quite a while mmmh can speak to my son about it as it is my birthday month hhahaaha

    Cheerio!

Hey, good! Go and enjoy. It’s pricey, even ofter the discount, but really, really worth the money. Get tipsy on the sparkling wine, then follow with coffee!
Hope your birthday falls on an oyster day as it’s not an everyday event, that is, if you like oysters. I had 16 of them! Hahaha, le glutto huh?
Make sure not to eat too much for breaky and lunch hor.
Cheers and an advanced Happy Birthday to you!

  59. Greetings Mary #92 and #95

Was it The Line Restaurant that u went? is the spread of food more international than local? We usually try to avoid buffet style as we can get too adventurous trying each of every dishes and than suffer the consequences later……..(poor digestion).

We have not dine at the Blu , wonder if its value for money after the birthday discount as we understand the offer is open for all the dining outlet in shangri-la …………

    cheers

  60. Hi Fredalim

Greetings and ‘salucitations’like Bugs Bunny says, hehe. Yes, I was referring to The Line. Hey, there’s no way one can try every dish! You need two stomachs, like a cow, or even three! hahaha. No wonder you got indigestion!

The promo applies to all the outlets of Shangrila. Depends on what you mean by ‘value for money’ really. At the Line, even after the discount, each person had to pay about $40 or so still, but considering that there was free flow of sparkling wine and fresh, live oysters, roast beef, sashimi, scallops, mussels etc etc,..about 50 dishes, I would consider it value for money.
The chinese restaurant offers Peking duck too, so it depends on what one enjoys.
The trick is to be selective of what you want to eat and not try to eat everything. Most of the other dishes are pretty common ones that you can get anywhere, stuff like noodle soup, fish curry, soups, dim sum. I gave these a miss.
Go and give it a try if it’s your birthday.
    Enjoy!

  61. #95 MaryC, 1st thanks for the BD wish. I love oysters but 16 of them,,,sure no space for others kakakak The last time I was at The Line I could only take 8 as I like to have a bite of varieties; the spread there are usually very fresh & good.

Yesterday morning, I had called several times but no one picks up the fone so left msg with the operator. They took half day to return call!!! There are certain criterias & 1 of them is “must be on BD date”!
    My DIL called to make booking for 2nite; was told “fully booked” so, disappointed!! Thought could ga ga with u later about it ); {sob,sob}

  62. Hi Friends

Photos of PLR4 uploaded. Please do category search under walking then view. Scroll to bottom of post for the photo link. Happy viewing!

James, I am unable to upload those you have already put on the web. I tried but it cannot work. It came out as a blank box in the album after uploading.

In future, you can choose to send the photos to me or you can continue putting the link to your photos in your comments so that members can see.

  63. Hi Mary#98 and Christina #99

This is a good time to be “old” celebrating your birthday, the older u are the higher the discount. I understand the dining outlet on ‘Shangri-la birthday deal’ does not take more than 10 tables a day? however u are allow to make your reservation a month ahead of the actual birth date. So when you are ask when is your birth date from people who never celebrate with you in the recent years, u know what they are getting at ha ha …….cheers

  64. Hi EOs for the PipeLine Ramble Walk

Appreciates very much for the time taken and effort in doing the recceses for all the PIPELINE RAMBLE Walk, as each walk presents it’s own challenges and adventures, be it webbing thru the fence, leaping across a wide drain, walking the 200m pipeline.

Thanks Christina for nudging me to walk on the 200m glistening white pipe. I was hesitant because of I have height phobia. I almost froze when I realised that I have to walk pass the stream under the pipe! EUREKA!

We are very happy to be able to complete the 3 Ramble walk
out of 4. the first walk unable to join because we joined the Penggarang cycling trip. Definitely joining the EXTREME RAMBLE WALK.

Charles #80 – It’s our considerate EO, Christina who brought the cartons as she has foresight the path will be
muddy. Steven and Thomas also helped to carry the cartons along the way.

Till then, looking forward to the walk and seeing everybody again.

    Cheers

Yes, it has to be on the birthday day itself and they also ask for IC verification.
Sorry to hear you couldn’t get a reservation.
Don’t let that spoil your birthday.
    Cheers and be happy!!
