Japan Onsen anyone?

Hi There    emoticon

I am planning a trip to Japan, in particular, visiting traditional onsen (hot spring) and staying in traditional guest house or inn.  Anyone interested in joining me?

This is not going to be the run-of-the-mill kind of package.  It will be rustic and relaxing, visiting quaint little town and villages.  But don’t worry ladies, it does have shopping stops including the famous Ginza & Shinjuku districts in Tokyo.

Tentatively, it is going to be a 6-day trip from 31 March (overnight flight) till 6 April to capitalise on the long weekend.  Cost is about S$2,500 per person twin or triple sharing, and S$3,000 for single.  Expensive huh!  But what the heck – we work so hard for what?  Why shouldn’t we give ourselve a treat once in awhile right?

  1. Hi Lily

I am interested in onsen in Japan/Taiwan, but will be able to take leave after April/May. Appreciate if you can keep me in the loop.

    Thanks
    Pauline Tan

  2. Hi Lily,

I shall remain with only Japan for now. Time around sept/oct or Spring 2011 to admire the cherry blossoms too.

    Thanks for the hard work.

    Regards,

    Geok Suan.

  3. Lily with a Ho every SHCian can see fro afar,

Yes, I am really tried, very very tried of going thru the same old rigours painfully associated with living……..eating then shiitting, sweating then bathing, waking up and then going back to sleep…..what the heck !

Obviously, you too are pained by this insipid rigmarole to have typed “suicidal” when you actually had wanted to ffer me your 15th century sweet cider.

Sure, why not, even if it leads to suicidal tendency after gulping down yr sweet cider.

  4. Hi Geok Suan, Freda, Marg & Daisy

    Hi Freda

Glad we have something in common. Sure do, will keep you in the loop. I won’t close the post just yet but haven’t the time to scout around for better deal.

If you folks know of some good deal, please share.

    Best Regards
    Lily

  7. Oei, Lily, why spend $2,500 for a bath in Japan when you can have 1 or 2 year’s bath (depending on which plan you subscribe for)for the same price?

My friend recently opened a car wash shop and business is slow. So if you take Plan A – hand wash – you’ll get 1 year’s bath, and 2 years for the pour, splash and machine-scrub. He can play japanese music or Hindi music to suit your mood.

So stop seraching and sign up now, with whoever you can convince.

  8. Greetings Lily,

Yes after experiencing the traditional Ryokans at Minakami and Kusatusu, i often look forward to a “cheaper version” of spring bath. Once in Christchurch, we tried to made a detour to a natural hot springs (cannot remember the name) but I ‘chicken’ out because its too quiet and remote so we did not make it at the end. The spring bath make your hair and skin soft so I was told. Perhaps we can share notes thru email if you close this post as I am also exploring the opportunity to have the similar experience of hot spring at the mountains………
    cheers

  9. Hi Geok Suan

Seems like we have common interest here. Just heard from the Travel Agency that this package is not confirmed and they offered me an alternative which I am not too keen. So, will have to scout around again for another package. I am flexible with the dates except for mid Apr, early May and school holidays.

I had stayed in traditional Ryokans twice and like the experience very much. SHC members Rene, MargaretT, Grace, AndrewY & Dan who went with me to Korea in winter of 2008, know how much I like open-air hot spring in cold weather. I have also tried those in China but have not done it in Taiwan. May be I should scout for Taiwan package which are cheaper and choose a date that are more suited for other SHC members to join us. But frankly, Japan is still the best in terms of hygiene and atmosphere (nature versus man-made).

Well, any interest anyone? If no interest, I’ll just close this post and plan to go alone or drag my daughter along.

  10. Dear Lily,

I would have liked to join you on this trip if not for my trip to HCMC in mid april.

I too like visiting quaint towns and villages, also, would like an experience staying in traditional ryokans.

If there’s another opportunity for you to visit Japan in the near future (spring/autumn), I may be able to participate then.

    Happy holidays.

    Geok Suan.
