  1. Wei wei Lily,

Suzhang and myself want to go. I wonder if we can take SQ instead, can find out for us….if not is alright. I will confirmed this trip again on Monday, need to check my work schedule in office. Thank you for organising…. :)

    Ah Nee

  2. Hi Ah Nee, Suzhang, Marge, Richard, Andrew & John

Thanks for your quick response. Due to limited vacancies and for the early bird price, I have put your name down tentatively subject to your final confirmation. Hope this is ok with you. But, do let me know your decision asap.

With regards to Ah Nee’s request for SQ flight, the closest flight to meet our schedules are :
    SQ876 – SIN / TPE – 0835 / 1320
    SQ879 – TPE / SIN – 1810 / 2235

Both ways, you will have to be at the airport 2 hours earlier to wait for us and the cost is : $1067 per person ($800 + $267.70 tax).

I have not check with the travel agency yet but doubt very much they will agree as they do not offer land package. Other travel agenciens offering 7D land package for an average price of $988. I don’t think it’s worth the hassle.

  3. Hi Lily,

Your itinerary sounds really interesing. Is it possible if I join the land tour only? I’m living in Taiwan now.

Ah Nee, the CI package is very reasonable. You should go together in a group. But if there is a reason that you have to fly SQ, then I’d suggest you book the Sweet Deal promo offer now ($1,535.40 for 2). May I also suggest that you take the later flight home so that you can visit Wo Fen Po for a morning shopping spree. There, you can find basement bargain prices for clothes, handbags, shoes, accessories, etc. etc.

  4. Dear Eleanor, it’s been a long time we didn’t meet. We missed you the last time you came back to Singapore for a break. No worry…we hope we are able to meet you in Taiwan. Hope Lily can make the arrangement to accommodate you. Getting excited already…… :)

    Ah Nee

  5. Dear Lily,
If you’ve organised this last yr, we wld have joined. We went last Nov with Chan Bros – paid so much more. Cover all those places you mentioned above. For those who yet to visit Taiwan, wld encourage you all to go for it @ this price – its $$$ worth.

Btw, just wonder if you wld be planning to go Turkey say this Oct/Nov? If so, can count me in on this.

    Regards

  6. Ah Nee, if you wish to extend your stay, you are welcome to stay at my apartment. My place is about 10 mins walk to Taipei 101.

End of May will be hot and nice. For Alishan star gazing and sunrise tour, you need to bring sunglasses, sunblock and 1 piece of warm clothing (preferably a ski jacket). It can be freezing up in the mountains.

  7. Hi Eleanor Chan of x Bank of America, this’s Henry Yip of x midland Bank/ Dresdner Bank. There’s only one unique Eleanor Chan in this very small world LOL remember yr fellow traders?

  8. Hi Eleanor, if it’s not convenient, you can direct yr emails to me at yhenry@singnet.com.sg . I wont be surprised tht I remember you more than you remember me, as a women working in a men’s world then, you would have a relatively higher profile. cheers!

  9. Hi Eleanor & Pearlynn

Thanks for the feedback. If it’s just me, the saving may not be much but for a group, the saving is worth making the effort to source around and make comparison.

I will check on Eleanor’s request and revert asap.

Meanwhile, I do hope those interested to make a decision quick as the travel agency want to include outsiders into our group. I am trying to block that to avoid any of us paying $100 more.

CharlesC, JohnH, AndrewY, Ah Nee, Suzhang, Irene Poh, MargeT, others….?? Also, Richard Wong is looking to share room with another ….

  10. Dear Pearlynn

Like Taiwan, I have been to Turkey many years ago. If you are organising one, I would have love to join you but I have limited leave and $$ to spend on 2 major vacations a year. Short weekend trip to neighbouring countries may be lah…. sob sob :(

Anyhow, if you are organising one, do post it on the website. Other members might be interested. It is so good to be in a club with so much activities.

    Thanks much & Best Regards
    Lily

  11. Hi Lily / others,

If I have not been to Taiwan a few yrs. ago, I would definitely would have join this tour which has every thing from shopping to spa to cultural and educational visits. Excellent Itinerary!

I hope either others or you could organise this same kind of itinerary to
Japan esp. during the Cherry Blossom season perhaps next year. I will definitely join you.

    Aligatok gosamas. :)

  12. Ok Steven

Will bear that in mind. Let’s wait till next year then see how lor. Don’t want to plan too far ahead lah. Nobody know what’s going to happen in the future right? Anyway, thanks for your positive comment.

    Regards / Lily

  13. Lily, On lah, this morning going thru my work schedule, very “heng” huh, the hectic period is towards the last week of June 2010. So Suzhang & myself confirm going lah.

Eleanor, I am seriously considering your kind offer. Lets see how it goes…very keen to drop by your apartment for a cup of coffee. Till we meet again….Thank you!

    Ah Nee

  14. Very happy to hear that, Ah Nee. I will get the guest room ready for you. You will have to inform the travel agency that you plan to extend your stay. My apt can comfortably accommodate 6 on sleeping bags.

    Hi Henry,

Yes, I recalled you were with Marmid, Sing then but not sure if we crossed sword before. Anyway, let’s take this offline.

  17. Hi Ah Nee, Suzhang, Eleanor
•Land package is $498 (same tips to driver & guide applies).

    Oh goodie Sam
We will have fun and siow time with you around. Without Sgt. Major, at least I have a loud speaker.

    Hi Gabriella
    • Taiwan tourist visa is not required for Singapore citizen staying up to 30 days.
    • I am not allow to promote or publicise the travel agency on this website and as mentioned, details will be given to confirmed participants.
    • If you or anyone choose to travel via a different airline and opt for land package only, you will have to make own flight arrangements and effort to meet up with the full package group and not vice versa. Land package is $498 (same tips to driver & guide applies).

I would prefer that everyone takes the full package and travels together as a group with the exception of Eleanor who is already there.

    Hi Maureen
Both you and Gabriella choose Irene Poh to be your room-mate. You will have to sort this out amongst yourselves and then inform me your final decision.

  19. Hi Lily,

Thank you for making the arrangements. I will apply for my leave today.

May I ask if my son can join your tour from Spore? Is it possible for him to extend his stay till 8 June, please?

    Thank you.

  20. Lily, thank you for your great effort in making all the necessary arrangement for us. Sam huat huat huat….hehehe, with you around, we all can “seow seow” till “pengsan” lah. Joker you…. know me so well huh! I bring mini kettle to make coffee & “ang mo teh” for you mah. Btw my leave has been approved liao….am looking forward to this trip! :)

    Ah Nee

  21. Sam,
Mai kan cheong. Details will be sent via email to all participants. The travel agency will also conduct a briefing closer to departure date. You can then ask any question not answered by me.

    Hi Eleanor,
I’m sorry to have to rule out your son’s participation for this trip. Our last Korea trip, we included the youngsters (children of SHC members) and so selected an itinerary suited for the young ones. This time, I’ve only planned for the adults as I would like to relax and enjoy the trip with similar age group. Hope to have your understanding.
BTW, since you are taking the land package, the 11th pax does not apply to you.

Gabriella, Margaret Tian, Charles Chua, John Howe, and anyone else? Can you kindly confirm soonest possible as I would like to make the booking soon. Closing date will be this Friday 5pm. Thereafter, details will not be posted but sent via email to confirmed participants only.

    Your co-operation will be appreciated.

    Lily :)

  22. Hi There

Margaret Tian just filled up the 10th vacancy but I will still keep to the closing date in case there are others willing to pay $100 more.

Meanwhile, the 10 + 1 confirmed pax will be receiving details via email soon.

    TAIWAN HERE WE COME…!!! :)

  23. Hi Lily,

You have come up with an excellent itirenary. I didn’t think I’d like to go to Taiwan but the places that you’ll be going are very interesting. These are all the places I would have liked to visit too and most of all, the jovial SHCians will make this trip a very enjoyable one.

Timing is not right for me this time.
I shall be in Ho Chi Minh City and Sydney from 15/4/10 to 8/5/10. Not much leave left for long holidays this year.

I look forward to your Japanese ryokan, quaint towns and villages + cherry blossoms trip in the near future.

    Lily,you make a very good Holiday Consultant/Planner.

May you and the Group have the most wonderful time in Taiwan.

    Geok Suan.

  24. Thanks Geok Suan.

Like you, I too, have limited leave but can consider short trips on long weekends. Hope you are able too. Who knows? Towards the end of the year, perhaps? You take care.

    Lily

  25. Dear Lily,

I’m so glad that your Taiwan trip is confirmed.

I’ll be in Taipei(free n easy) from 29 May to 2 Jun after my Alaska Cruise. If possible, I would like to meet up with you bunch of fun gals/guys on 31 May when you all are back to Taipei. Hope we could have a night out and paint the town red. Ai Mai?

    Cheers! veronique

  26. Hello Dearie :)

Long time no see or hear…. Ai ai, with no language barrier and with Eleanor with us, no sweat to paint (or pain?) the town red hor.

    Keep in touch.!

  27. Hi Lily,

My apology for not clarifying that my son is a full-grown man, aged 22. Diapers and baby strollers not needed :)

Is it still possible for him to join the group? Can he extend the ticket to 8 June, please?

    Thanks!

  28. Sweet Lily,

Thanks for your prompt response. Yes, must catch up with you. I’ve missed a few SHC gatherings and cycling due to prior commitments and my trip to Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

Hooray! With the whole bunch of fun-loving Shcians, we not only paint the town red we will invade the whole town. Hahaha……………………….

  29. Dear Lily

Confirmed going to Taiwan and will be sharing a room with Irene Poh. Understand that I’ll have to pay $100 more since I’m the llth person?

Awaiting your further advice on when to pay, briefing etc.

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriella

  30. Hi Gabriella
Welcome on board. Yes, you will have to pay $100 more. Very sorry – It’s the travel agent’s policy.

    Hi Eleanor
Actually not keen to include outsider but it make sense for you to share room with your son. Extension surcharge is $50. Hence, your son will have to pay $150 ($100 + $50) more.

    To All
I am rushing to make payment soonest possible – as confirm booking for the 1st 10 pax. Therefore, please :

    – Submit your passport particulars to me via email to : willocq@singnet.com.sg, your PP No, Full Name as in PP, Expiry Date & DOB.

    – Please pay $500 deposit either via ATM transfer to my : DBS (Current/Autosave) Account No. 006-015401-8, OR

    – Pay by cheque in favour of : Lily Ho Willocq with my DBS account no. 006-015401-8 written on the back and deposit the cheque into the DBS Quick Cheque Deposit Box.

    – Eleanor, you just pay the full amount.

    Greatly appreciate your co-operation.

    Thks & Rgds

  33. Aiya Norlinda
What a pity! Have travelled with you so many times and you always have such a sunshine personality. It will be lagi more fun if you could come along.

    Margaret dear
Thanks for being the first to make payment.

    Yes Ah Nee
I have both your particulars. Let me know when you have made the transfer.

    Dear All
I am going down to the travel agency to make payment this Sat. If I have not received your payment by then, you will have to make a trip to the agency yourself and risk not being within the 1st 10 pax. You may be in my list of 1st 10, but the agency is also taking bookings from the public. If I do not come in with 10 pax at one go, they have the obligation to give the early bird price to others to fill up the 1st 10 vacancies on a 1st come 1st served basis.

Therefore, would very much appreciate that you folks make payment to me by Friday 5.00pm can?

The trip will take off as long as there are 10 pax to go. If not, the trip will be cancelled and you will get your full refund.

    Regards / Lily

No worry/rush lor – Turkey can be next year itinerary lor. Actually plan was to go Turkey last year Sep but cant form a grp therefore last min changed to Taiwan. Cant do co-ordination for a big grp. Moreover, dont know how to post on SHC Website. Hope you can continue to take the lead – you’re doing a marvellous job on this. Hear good news from you.

I’m goin Hanoi, Vietnam end May. Been to Ho Chi Minh – its an experience esp Cui Cui Tunnel & Water Pupperty Show. Enjoy the Viet Coffee too. Cost is pretty reasonable.

Steven – Yr idea of goin Japan during Cherry Blossom is also a gd idea. Visited Hokkaido in 2008. Its a lovely place – very scenic & air is fresh. Also if Lily has any good deals for Japan, can also count me in.

I’m looking forward to joining you gals & guys in future trips. :o)

  57. Tried posting report at 2am for an hour but either got wiped out or logged out. Tried again this morning .. same thing!! Trying again… may have to do it bit by bit…. bloody … @#%*(@!%#@…. computer…. sigh.

Reporting from Taoyuan, Taipei (our last day in Taiwan) :

We started off with a cocky tour guide who thinks he knows best —- telling a bunch of silver hair what we should eat or drink, how to take our medication, how to enjoy and have fun???? What the …..?? In brief….

Day 1 – Ah Nee fell off the bed trying to get in. No injury but needed ‘kia hong sua’.
Day 2 – Lily fell off the bus getting down. Twisted ankle. Still in ankle guard.
Day 3 – Suzhang fell by the road side and damaged some bushes. No injury but needed Ah Huat to pull her out of the bushes.
Day 4 – Got stuck for more than an hour at the animal farm / choo choo train station becos our bus broke down. Usual SHC spirit, we started the casino rolling while waiting for the bus to be fixed.
Day 5 – Ah Huat got married to a native girl during the cultural show and had to carry her off on his back. We thought he won’t be coming back with us.
Day 6 – Despite the rain, the gals were thrilled with the shopping till midnight while the guys were bored to death waiting at MacDonald, our meeting point.
Day 7 – Arrived at Taipei 101 but none interested in the view at the top but dashed to the toilet instead. First time we had a clean toilet since we arrived in Taiwan. Met Eleanor at Shiling Night Market. Exchanged hellos and goodbyes. Totally missed Veronique who was supposed to be in the same vicinity at the same time. Too engrossed in her shopping eh???
Day 8 – We had the morning F&E before leaving for airport at 1pm.

Whenever we were taken to “commissioned” shops, we will makan all their samples and then calibot as quickly as possible when they try to sell us their products. All in all, we had an adventurous trip albeit some differences in expectations. In true SHC spirit, we were able to laugh alot, eat alot, sleep alot (in the bus) and make the most out of any situation.
We will be coming home tonight…. Home Sweet Home…

    Cya :)

  58. Hi LilyH,

Sounds like you ladies had a dangerous trip. Well, your trip report tells us that at our age, we have to be more conscious of our balance. It would be great if you have pictures of Ah Nee falling off the bed, you twisting your ankle and Suzhang in the bushes.

Taiwan is indeed a very romantic country. Ah Huat, right?

    Terence Seah

  59. Wah Lily,

How do you (Ah Nee) fall off a bed, while getting in? Must be quite a feat!!!

Also good to learn that all SHC members should travel with an ankle guard. I now do so after learning my lesson too.

Lastly were the bushes badly bruised?

About T101, did any of you see the counterweight “pendulum”, to counterpoise any tilting of the building when it shifts due to an earthquake? Quite interesting.

Sam, did they make you drink or serve any tea? Very important and critical question. No tea, no IT or first to tea, then to IT.

So can you remember, did you drink or serve tea? IT not important. Dolly also want to know and how was IT? Not the tea lah.

  60. Yes Charles / Terence

    – ankle guard, knee guard, all guards are important to travel with at our age. I was lucky that Molly brought along a spare ankle guard which she promptly whisked out of her handbag the minute I hurt my ankle. Ah Huat was very kind to help me (and others) carry our baggage. Oi Cheng, ‘the mother-in-law’ was very kind and considerate for my condition. A very good room mate indeed. Dolly called from China when she learned of my injury. What a buddy!

    – the bushes were alright. Suzhang is shy about the incident and does not want me to post more info but still…. Poor bushes!!

    – forgot to mention…. Ah Huat did a strip tease show at the resort, showing all his ‘sam cham bak’ and won lots of prizes for our team.

Yes Terence, there were lots of cameras in the group, snapping away…. let’s hope these camera owners will submit their photos to SHC Photo Manager for posting.

Aiyo CharlesC, already mentioned that nobody is interested the T101 building itself mah. We just rushed for the toilet then went browsing. Can’t affort to shop as there were only expensive high end branded goods. Money not enough and cannot bargain lor….

IT man Tian Soo threaten to expose all our “wrong doings” on this trip unless we are nice to him. We also learned a new vocabulary for IT from the tour guide’s jokes ….. and have been using it thru out the trip.

Our itinerary were quite jumbled up and due to the torrential rain prior to our arrival, landslides caused closure of the road leading to Alishan. So, that part of our tour was changed to an alternative location instead. :(

Anyhow, we are glad to be home – safe and sound.

    Goodnight….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (~.~)

  61. Lily@65..
Its good that the guide advice do’s & dont’s..cos thot u all still young, must protect mah!..haha
Aiyo!…so kesian u hurt your ankle?..hope its ok now

AhNee…u must tell me what happen,v cute!…apa macam fell off the bed?..it must be pretty & sweet got u excited?..hhmmm

Suz..Poor girl..No worry..falling off is common at our tender age la..just like me,that time i drove the buggy at golfcourse( 1st time woh!),then terbalik (overturn) onto the flowerbed!..lagi susah rite?,lucky not into some longkang!…haha

Glad that everybody enjoyed your trip v much despite the unforseen circumstances..im sure it was fun!lots of laughter!…by now sorethroat oredi la..:)

  62. dear lily jie
thank you very much for yr effort and time for organising this trip & being efficient and caring by ensuring all our needs are met.
ah-huat our great “entertainer” there’s never a dull moment with him around!!
richard our expert “photographer” who take the trouble to focus and capture all the landmark for us to bring home a piece of the memories.
we had a party in the room and thanks to tian soo,ah huat,ah nee & molly for the beer/food we all had a fun time !!
oi cheng, daisy, maureen, susan, margaret & gabriella.. thank you for the great company.

    irene

  63. It seems that nothing will break the spirit of a group that is determine to have a good time. Not even 5.30 am wakeup calls, 15 hours of travell each day in a bus, lousy hawker food and a bad tour-guide talking nonsense all the way.

Maybe if they dump us in a desert we will all still be laughing and making noise……except when Ah Huat is sleeping.

Thanks Lily for organizing the trip and all others for being so nice. I need another holiday to relax now.

  64. I greatly appreciate EO Lily Ho who organised the
Taipeh trip. She had put in a lot of effort and
hardwork to make this trip goes smoothly and
successfully, although we had inexperienced tour
guide but I enjoyed throughout the journey with our
    members.

Also, thanks to my roommate Huat Huat Huat for his good
    companionship.

    Richard Wong

  65. #65 …… Waahhhh Ah Nee and Suzhang, you 2 brought the earthquake from Yunnan to Taiwan huh hahahahaha

#71……that’s what we call the Spirit of SHC….nothing can get us down ya.

    Sockie

  66. Why I fell off from the Bed….hahaha

Wow…the hotel rooms in Taiwan are unusually big with 2 super single Beds….very super big bed (like a Queen size Bed). I didn’t realised my left leg was entangled with the wide piece of bed sheet cover (blanket) while getting up. I stumbled and fell head over heel down the carpeted floor. Susan was wondering what I was doing….trying some balancing act!….hahaha….very funny indeed, we had a good laugh. But then on second thot, I hope I wasn’t pushed off from the bed by ??? then I felt a little frightened???

I want to thank Lily for putting much effort & energy in organizing this trip; Sam Huat for helping out with the heavy luggage and a great “Joker” who makes us laugh all the way; Tian Soo for the motion sickness pills, I am lucky…..the pills really works!; Richard for your assurance and helping with my excess baggage; Molly for daily supply of beer & food for “Happy Hour” at the hotel; Suzhang my accommodating room mate; and the rest, thanks for your companies and understanding for letting me having the Bus front seat due to my motion sickness. I love to travel with them, this is SHCians team spirit!

During the 8 days tour, I did enjoy myself very much, though I was tired and disappointed with the local guide and the lousy food. Like the saying goes….happy moment will have to end….bye bye 8 Days Amazing Taiwan…. :)

    Ah Nee

  67. Dear Ah Nee#74 G’day. We R glad tht SHC Team Taiwan is back safe & sound. But must admit tht when report by Lily Jie ”Day 1 – Ah Nee fell off the bed trying to get in. No injury but needed ‘kia hong sua’.” There was a palpable disquiet over the Shenton way area. Such tht Senior Member CharlesC hv to issue a Senior Statement ”How do you (Ah Nee) fall off a bed, while getting in? Must be quite a feat!!!” Was it a rush to do ”IT” was the speculation in the forex markets. hahaha.

Later news reached S’pore tht all members of SHC Team Taiwan is ok, tht we resume with our normal activities. The forex markets resume trading. hahaha

Nice to see Team Taiwan Back & Happy !!

  68. Ah Nee

Which night was it that you fell off the bed?

Didn’t want to mention this during the trip but on the second night, I woke up in the middle of the night and funnily, my heart beat went thud, thud then a long pause and then thud, thud and a long pause again and on it went.

I decided to brush away all bad thoughts and fell asleep too soon.

A gamble indeed! I may not have woken up the next morning!

Happy to be back on my warm cozy bed now.

  69. Daisy,

It was on the first night that I fell off the Bed. Are you alone in the hotel room on the second night? Maybe you are scare…that’s why your heart goes thud thud…….you want to share more?

    Ah Nee

  70. Ah Nee

I was alone from the third night onwards and slept like a log thru’ the rest of the trip.

Strangely, I did not like a certain stale smell in the room when we first opened the door. I went sniffing the air in a few of the other rooms and they didn’t have the stale smell.

Maybe that’s why both my room mate and me behaved strangely during the night. Ee….ri…e

    Ha ha ha ha ha………

  71. Ah Nee

Did you hear me shouting in Yehliu?

    I went:
Sam, Sam, look here, look here, quick look here, now smile, smile, quick smile, look here, quick pose.

Okay, now quick, quick let’s go, let’s go, let’s go Sam!

Didn’t help that Lady Susan was fuming too!

Alamak! Where were all of you?

    Keep guessing what happened!!!!

  72. Hi Lily

Thank you v much for organising this trip. I really appreciate the tremendous amt of hard work you’ve put into making this trip enjoyable and a memorable one for SHCians.

Thank you to Ah Huat, Richard and Tian Soo for all your help.

Thanks to all for the great company!

Looking forward to the next trip…….

    Regards,
    Gabriella

  73. Sockie,

I will leave my Taiwan Trip photos CD at the Kovan CC counter. Look for Ferlyn to collect it when you are there for your line dancing class on Thursday. Hope this works becos I don’t know how to send it to you by internet….no face book, no photo album, don,t know how to create one on the NET….hehehe, very “swa ku” me lah.

    Ah Nee

  74. Hi Folks

The photographs contirbuted by Richard Wong and Tian Soo are now uploaded. As usual you can go to the event thread and scroll down to the bottom for the link or go to the Photos & Venue Page and search for the events photos (which is a faster option………… my 2 cents :o)

Ah Nee #82, will collect the CD and upload these as part 4 later.

If there are anymore contirbutions from other members, pls e-mail me by Thursday so I can do a final upload.

    Thanks
    Sockie

  75. Hi Sock Cheng,

I was wondering if the trip to Taiwan will be held in May 2012. Nice shots. Seems everybody had a romantic trip to Taiwan – misty mountains, scenic harbours and nice cool temperatures.

    Terence Seah

  76. The Taiwan trip photos has been chosen to stay on the website banner for a few days. Please refresh your banner.
Guys and gals, I was surprised to see the SHCbanner all the way to Taiwan.

    Terence Seah

  77. Sockie,

One more CD from Suzhang’s camera. Please remember to collect both CDs (Suzhang & mine) from the Kovan CC counter. TQ very much.

    Ah Nee

  78. Sockie,

Kindly return Suzhang and my Taiwan Photos CDs to us if you are not posting on the forum, thot our CDs are more complete with more pictures. But nvm, pls leave the CDs at Kovan CC with the counter staff or Fernlyn, I will get it from them. Thank you.

    Ah Nee

  79. Ah Nee #88

I am still having problem uploading the photos, tried so many times but keeping getting error msg that some photos cannot be loaded. Even after removing the affected photos I am still getting connection errors.

This seems to happen when I was doing the Freaky Night…… and nothing seemed to work after that ………F R E A K Y

Each time I removed 1 photo I have to rebuild and re-upload the album……… lost track of how many times I have been trying now………. Terence is now looking at the error and see what went wrong.

Not sure if Oi Cheng had come across this problem before …. maybe the software don’t like my PC hahahahaha.

Anyway I will pass the CD to Kovan CC this week when I am there for my line dance class

    Sockie

PS. Danz and Charles Wee….pls be patient hor, your “Eat to Live” and “Sengkang Walk” photos will be uploaded once we resolve this problem……..and we have the D&D, Kelong and Beach Party coming up. too.

If the problem still exist then maybe Terence will have to find a repalcement for me liao :0)
