Day / Date : Saturday, 12 March 2011

Time : 4.00 pm – 6.00 pm

Venue : Sengkang Riverside PCN

EO : Conrad Tang

Assisting : Sally Lee

The PCN runs parallel to part of Punggol River. We will start off near Yio Chu Kang Road / Lorong Buangkok and end at the Sengkang Riverside Park. The walk will take us along the backyard of the only surviving kampong (Kampong Buangkok) in mainland Singapore and on to the new floating bridge outside Anchorvale Community Club. The entire walk is 2.5 km.

Please assemble at 4 pm outside Serangoon Central MRT Exit G, just next to the newest shopping mall Nex (Note: Exit G is near the control station of Circle Line. If you are coming from the North-East Line, cross over to the Circle Line within the Serangoon MRT Interchange).

We will take bus service 70 and alight at the bus stop outside St Vincnet De Paul Church along Yio Chu Kang Road. After the walk, we can take the LRT from Farmway LRT Station to Compass Point shopping mall for dinner.

Come join the walk and explore the North-East!!!

(Dear friends…we did break the half-century mark. Over 50 members joined the walk. Many thanks to all for making this an enjoyable walk. Conrad)

  1. Conrad,Sally,
i will be joining you all for this new section of the Ponggol Riverside Walk. Very peaceful & scenic. The continuing path after Anchor Vale has just been completed and very scenic too. Perhaps,we could consider it for our coming walks. Thanks.

  2. Hi Conrad & Sally

Thanks for organizing this walk, pls register me. I would like to wait at the bus-stop outside St Vincent De Paul Church too, would it be around 4.20 pm?

    Cheers

  3. Hi Janie #9 and Freda Lim #11,

Yes, if you know the way, please wait at the bus stop outside St Vincent De Paul Church.

    Hi James #10,

I wasn’t planning on going into the kampong proper. Not too sure how the kampong folks will react when over 20 people appear suddenly at their door steps. Nevertheless, we can explore.

  4. Hi Conrad,

Will the walk be along the east bank (Lor. Buangkok, IMH side) or west bank (Gerald Drive, Mugliston Park, Fernvale side)?

    Thanks.
    Paul Phua.

  5. Hi Conrad and Sally,

Will join the walk if the weather is fine. Btw, if you are referring to the exit next to Nex, then it is B, not G. Today,I was at the Serangoon MRT station there and could not find exit G.

    Thanks.
    Winnie

  6. Hi Paul #27,
We will take the east bank.

    Hi Lydia #21,
See you at mthe SVDP bus stop.

    Hi Winnie,
Exit G is one of the Circle Line exits. If you come out from Exit B, turn left to join us near the bus stop.

    Cheers
    Conrad

  7. Dear James #10,
Have not seen you sometime, glad you are joining our walk.
FYI, I did planned to visit Kampong Buangkok but each time, it did not/could not happen. :(

#20 Conrad is right, we are just passing Kampong Buangkok enroute to destination. The villagers’ privacy has been invaded many times over, unsure if they will welcome such a big group.

Suggestion: please bring along your camera, you and maybe 1 other member go in to take some quick shots (but get permission from the villagers first); then post the photos, if any, together with other photos of this walk for members to view.

    Thanks!

Look forward to seeing all at the walk. :)

  8. Hi Conrad,

So sorry I made a mistake. I won’t be in next week-end, so wil have to miss your walk again. Still my loss as I know you always prepare a good and interesting walk.

Now getting 1st stage dementia, can’t remember things beyond a few days.

    Please accept my apologies.

  9. Hi EOs Conrad and Sally

  13. Hi Conrad,

On behalf of Shirleen Kao , she has decided to join us.
    PLs register her. tks
Yeah this will be the BIG WALK. Wow! Alrdy more than 41 pax.!
I hope the EOs will arrange each team of 10 pax for btr
coordination and logistics . Hope also the kampong will not be alarmed n mistake such a big group for any political party preparing for the GE .

    Cheers!

  14. Hi Conrad
Are there any toilet facilities along the way, say between Lorong Buangkok and Farmway LRT Station?
    I need to use them.
    Please advise me
    Thank you.
    King Seng

  15. King Seng,
For urgent needs there are plenty of bushes all along the way, on the rhs of the canal. Near the starting point, there is also a petrol kiosk station. At the end of the walk, there is a stadium & food complex with facilities

  16. Comgratulations to you Conrad and Sally. What a wonderful turnout it’s shaping up to be. It speaks well of not only your choice of the route but also of the Walk Team.

SBS service 70 is usually a double-decker and shd comfortably take in 50 or more pax at 1 bus stop.

There will be some scrambling into the bus. Unavoidable. However, i can see that the Walk actually starts from the Church bus stop. So, some might want to wait there instead. If they prefer to do this then it’s courteous to inform the EOs beforehand, or through their friends if they cant reach the EOs.

In any event, I reckon punctuality is very important and I dont see any need for anyone to wait beyond 4.15 pm at Serangoon MRT b4 moving on to board service 70 to take them to the Church bus stop.

Folks, enjoy yourselves. It’s easy to hide your shyness or abhorrence by moderating your steps/strides accordingly…..slow, fast or walk backwards.

  17. Hi Conrad and Sally,

I will meet you guys at the bus stop outside St Vincnet De Paul Church this afternoon.

    See you.

    Thanks,
    Florence Lee
