  1. Aiyayayayah…………Paul-C, where did you go and from where did you creep out?

You were seen with the SHC Walk team yesterday and 36 nours later, you appear at the 25 March MG”ring place.

Senor Charles-W, you no good leh.

You must have taken Paul into the Buangkok kampong, told him it was Bangkok till his mind went kosong and he went sompong, added 14 furlongs to his walk and walked into the time tunnel and he is now 12 days ahead of us but still lost in that kampong plucking banlonglong.

C’mon Charles, let’s go rescue him lest this Walk be his awansong.

  2. Thanks for organising the meet the new member session. I enjoyed the evening gathering and very glad to know some new members.

Appreciate to choose a place convenient to go by MRT or bus. I hope the next meeting would be better.

  3. Hi Lydia,

Thanks for the word of encouragement!

Terence, the idea of having a monthly meeting in March came from you and that why I decided to take it up. I am not ready to organize another karoeke nite because we just had it on March 6. I understand now why we should not have a monthly meeting March because of the Prom Nite.

I still think that you should give it a thought if you want to hold your monthly meeting at this venue. You are getting finger food, free flow of coffee and tea and free karoeke chip in for $10.00 per pax. On top of that we a booking the whole hall from 5.00-11.00pm for this price, where to find a better deal, tell me? No outsider nor member of the public here to disturb us!

  4. Make mine the no. 14th comment .. and yes, sadly, this event will still not take place….!

Dan is only trying his best to help, by organising this monthly meeting, for all SHC members. We all appreciate that fact. Period. Its already difficult enough, trying to organise a monthly meeting, finding suitable venue, etc.. and the first comment Dan received from boss falls short of encouragement! Dan, pls don’t be discouraged, you’re doing a great job. Keep it up. Don’t ever, ever, ever give up! See, we’ve got Ronald Koh, our origami guru, who was so keen to come! And I was trying to adjust my schedule, to see if I can come! And I’m sure Gab is also supportive of this event. And many others… too!

This venue is a place familiar to quite a number of members & well liked by alot of music lovers, including myself. Jeff & Irene are naturally gifted in music, song & dance, and are great hosts!

And I don’t see what’s wrong with having a monthly meeting there? In fact, i think it is a suitable place! Afterall, boss was looking for a “standing room only venue. With open area, no dinner, only finger foods, soft drinks, and maybe wine.”

Well, with 60 or more people, this will be a “standing room” only venue… kekekekee… and drinks will be served.. and people can walk around, with or without cocktails.. there will be space for that “one chair” for our dear fren …! And no, we will definitely not have singing and dancing, if boss is not keen on that.

And the toilet is close by, too! So boss’s objective is met… “If you dont like somebody, you can just say you are going to the rest room.” He.hee.

Only catch is, perhaps the date of 25th March is too close to Prom Night, for those attending Prom Nite ie. We could, perhaps have the 14th April meeting there, if boss approves ??? Or perhaps in May? If boss don’t approve this venue for a monthly meet, we can then start oganising live band singing sessions there… ! Or karaoke/dance jams… It’ll be fun.. don’t give up, Dan … we’re all behind you.. all the way.

So I reckon there will not be a monthly gathering in March?

Meanwhile, we await more news about the next meet on 14th April. Will Boss pull another bunny out of his hat? The anticipation is intense.

Cheerssssss and hv a great weekend .. Its TGIF…

    Lyd.

  5. The dust is finally settling in here. After all these comments – mine making the 13th – the March 2011 MG’ring will still not take place. Quite a let-down.

Not privy to the facts and happenings, accusations, about faces (read also as “about-face”) simmering behind which can all add up to sell like MadhardTail’s memoir, to my eyes, everythg flowed from an assumption made.

That, like Hans Cafe, Scorebot, the Bra, Ez4U – erstwhile successful venues for SHC activies – Ez4U too can be a venue for a MG’ring. It can be but, with the unfoldings, certain rules and permissions hv to be complied with and obtained prior.

I fully embrace SHC’s OB markers. These markers let us hv unabated & unrestrained fun, run SHC the way we want without any eyes prying on us or interference from regulatory bodies.

Beyond that, I take no instruction from or bow to another. I do things my way and so I hv never ventured out to be an EO. But I can see who a good EO is and will support him/her, esp if, due to lukewarm response, the event risks being called off.

All genuine EOs/ECs will take heart from this learning experience that their events/activities will always be supported by SHCians, and that stubborn as a ox he is, Terence is never too stubborn to concede and be appreciative of the contributions EOS have made.

Trust me, T already has a few bottles of whisky waiting for you while he gulps down bottles of liquid panadol.

With him seemingly still enjoying excitement, dont bet that he wont stand as an Independent in Joo Chiat and join the hustlings over who drinks more water from the source. April 2011’s MG’ring may actually be held there with the rallying cry of “Stand Up for SHC” as the theme. The Viet mei meis there are excited and teeming too.

  6. Hi Jeffrey,

Before putting up this post I have consulted you on the phone with regard to booking your venue and the cost. Your help is needed as you will be helping me with the finger foods and drink. To hear you saying that I am implicating you is tantamount to having ‘a stab in my back’!

Terence, sorry again I should have consulted you.

Sam, I am not taking a swipe at you at all. It just that I feel that whenever a member is out to profit from other member this itself is also a taboo with Terence!

    Gabriella, appreciate your understanding.

Dolly, my enthusiasm got the better of me. If I have remembered that Prom Nite is just the next day I would not have chosen this date. I did not chose an earlier date as it seem to close for member to response. My apology, I think that dementia has set in! Like I said before, I am not out to bombard any fellow member who have the heart to organize activities for the club!

  7. HI Dan,
Was sick after my Cambodia trip n only tis am, that I had read tis post wif much hooha ongoing…

Let me clarify my point here, Sam’s mthly gathering held at a Serangoon Cafe was given approval by Terence b4 we proceed ahead inclusive of venue and price dat we r going 2 charge. If this is what you meant in Commt #7. Moreover the price stated there is wat u see wat u get except dat d food portion were abit larger than their usual as this cafe was run by relative of mine. This plc was proposed n chosen was largely due 2 d fact dat we r able 2 use almost d whole cafe 4 d mthly gathering. FYI, we did recess twice wif some SHC members b4 committing.

U r great EO/EC as stated by Gab but I wuld prefer dat u at least got ur facts rite b4 bombarding.

Moreover, while prom nite is on 26/3, having a mthly gathering on 25/3 is too close 4 comfort. Of cos, u may debate dat not everyone registered for mthly gathering also also attending d prom nite.. but this is still a fact, rite?

Yes, after enjoying a couple of events held at Jeff’s studio, I had agreed totally dat both Jeff n Irene were a great host.

    Cheers… Dolly

  8. Hi Terence, Dan and Jeff

Hope everyone will ‘calm down’ and not let their feathers be too fluttered? A minute’s anger is 60 seconds loss of happiness eh?

Terence is ‘papa’ of the club.. kekee… Dan is a very good EO/EC and both Jeff and Dan have always brought lots of fun and laughter to SHCians like me .. with karaoke and dancing!! hee hee. I respect and understand all your ‘feelings’!

Hi, why not change the title of the event to “Calling all Active Agers to a night of dancing, karaoke and fun? Feel young again!”

Sorry for being a kaypoh…. my two cents’ worth of comments as per #9.

Cheerssssss and have a great day everyone!!
    Gabriella

  9. Hi Dan,

My apology for your feeling disappointed with my response to this monthly gathering post. I have no doubt you have SilverHairsClub members’ interest at heart.

I have always required that all monthly gatherings require my clearance re the venue, the date and the cost. Perhaps, you may feel this procedure is not necessary, and this is where we differ. In general, if the venue is convenient and reasonable, and the EOs understand the club’s taboos of no politics, sex, race, religion, direct selling and MLM, I usually say OK. To avoid misunderstanding, it is wise to check with me or whoever is the club manager.

As I had said, feel free to go ahead with the event, but not as a SHC monthly gathering.

It is my hope that some day, we can just let SilverHairsClub run without restriction and limit.

Fellow SHCians, Please feel free to give your views and comments.

  11. Hi Terence,

Let’s me make myself clear to you, I do not normally initiate an event or activity without consulting you. On a previous occasion i have intended to plan a monthly meeting and asked you for a suitable date when you are available. Your answer to me was that I can go ahead to organize whether you are present or not.

On this assumption, I plan for this month meeting. As for the venue, I have even brought you along to inspect it.

I dun know what the your qualm is all about? Is it the fact that we are trying to make some profit from holding this meeting? If you do not look after your own member interest, what the bother to join?

I know Jeffrey is not a person who is out to profit from holding our meeting. On two previous session he even provide free wine and the cost of entry is only $6.00. At the last karoeke night he even provide a free bottle of vodka. Clearly for our member’s sake he is out to please and to entertain. Or would you rather look at the statement of account?

We have held two previous monthly meetings, one at a Japanese Restaurant and the feedback was that the food are expensive. The other meeting organize by Sam was at a Western outlet. So is it better to let these non-member who run the restaurant profit from us?

At $10.00 per head, with finger foods and free flow of drinks and using the premises and free karoeke, do you think he is laughing to the bank!

I have only our member interest at heart, what is this about taking off the SHC name from the monthly meeting. It just absurd, if I am not doing for the Club, wat other club or agenda do I have?

It only on anotherpost that you sounded out for an EO to hold this month meeting that I stick my neck out, and here I get all this crap, it so discouraging. I have since buried all the events that I have planned for this Club.

    Dan

  12. Hi Dan,
Pls do not include me as EO for above and future events. I have inform you twice not to implicate my name as EO when I was not even inform. I only come to know after a few of the members told me I was the EO. I appreciate your wish to utilize my studio. As you can see, the usage is very economical as I have always given special rates to SHC use . Anyone wishes to book it is not a problem as long as the dates are not blocked . If I wish to raise my hand, I will definitely give a try . Thanks and cheers ! jeff

  13. Hi Dan,

I would appreciate if you seek clearance before using any venue and date for the SHC monthly gathering. In this case, please do not refer this event as a SHC monthly gathering. Pleae amend the subject title accordingly.
