    Terence Seah

Hi ChengPun, it had been quite a while dat you did not attend d mthly gathering, so u shd b 100% Mandarin rite..

    Thanks, YatSing, 4 d status.

Terence, maybe instead of Alien, I shd changed it to FT (Foreign Talent) hor.. .Hmmm, Let’s think2 hor…Cheers.. Dolly

  3. Hi Attendees,
Kindly note that no outside food is allowed at the Cafe. Food and refreshments are available at the counter. Try 2 kow kuan kow kuan d cafe cofi n teh, pastries, etc etc.. Cheers.. Dolly

  4. Dolly, Gosh, me FT? Foreign Talent? Sure, I dont mind being a Foreign Talent.

Calling IvanL, if you are coming, can you bring the Myanmese CD with English music, sung in Myanmese. Thank you.

And, calling HenryY and TimL, I do owe you something. If you are coming, i will settle my scores with you. If not, may have to wait another month.

    Terence Seah

  5. Terence, what you owe me is insignificant compared with what you owe some people – her shawl, his tampon.

If I can make the time, I will be there.

  6. Hi Dolly, Tks for organising, kindly include me. Apart fm OCBC, DBS can? hahahaha

Hi Terence chief, see U at the “bra” & then yes on to Kovan Avenue. Cheers.

  7. Dear all

I wud like to see the Mandarin’s Happening. Will attend but a little late ard. 7.00pm. Viewing but no conversation as I remain DBS. Just let me if Silverhair has no room for a Dump & Blurr Spectator. Chowww …

  8. Hi Terence, Henry & Sarah
We try to keep the categories to 3 main groups each with colour coded name label. So, no FT or DBS. These will be classified as “Alien”.

    Hi Janie & Tim
You are the Mandarin speaking group for sure.

  9. Dear All

Please take note of the change in the timing. As instructed by CM Dolly, this monthly gathering will end at 8pm instead of 8.30pm to facilitate those going directly from the gathering to Kovan CC.

  10. Sarah, understandbaly, you can intersperse your Mandarin with some English words. If you will, here I am to teach you a few Mandarin words so that you will be one up on the OCBCs.

To the guys you know but cannot remember their names, no problem. Call out “Lao Gong” at them.

When you refer to yourself, say “Lao Niang Wo”.

When asked how are you, say “Lao niang wo hao bu hao, guan ni pi shi.”

    Heeee……….

  11. Hi Sarah,
Blur blur or sotong oso can attend la, hope u can come hor…

    Hi Eunice,
Is ok la.. maybe next mthly would b more interesting leh, tio bo? Cheers.. Dolly

  12. Hi Dolly,

Just register me as ‘Alien’. Actually should be ‘ae-kow’. I suppose I can order by using my fingers to point at the menu.

How can ‘ang-mo’ cafe cannot use ‘ang-mo’ to order? What’s the special for the day? Can order now? BTW, does Sam want me to bring the phone on Fri?

    Cheers (or Yam Seng??)

  13. Hi Dolly,

I will drop in after work as usual, since the Cafe is only 5 min walk from my office. According to your categories, I am OCBC (rojak) – can speak English, Hokkien, Malay. Mandarin also can but not so good.

But actually, I work for DBS, so how can I call myself OCBC ???

    Cheers,
    Lee Sean

  14. Raised in dialect speaking families and with English as the dominat language, it’s hard for anyone to completely use Mandarin in a conversation unless the counterparts speak nothing but Mandarin.

So, it will be a huge challenge for us – listed as Mandarin speaking – to try to speak only Mandarin but try I will, if I will be forgiven for my Cantonese accent.

  15. #31 TimL, right!

In a social environment, it is difficult, near impossible! to hold an entire conversation in only 1 language – be it English or Mandarin… esp we Singaporeans, we also speak Singlish hahaha
(Personal opinion/experience; No offense to those who can hold a conversation ONLY in 1 language hor).

I read the post again, no penalty if we charmpo charmpo hehe

  16. “TimL, right!”.

Chris-C, with you and in your eyes, Tim is always right from day 1 till eternity. Good to have secret admirers; better to have an admirer as open as you are.

    Heeee………

So, my point (belive is Chris’ point as well) is, speak as much Mandarin as you feel comfortable. Dont worry if you add a bit of English dialect into what you say. This Mthly G’ring isnt the 100% Mandarin speaking event yet.

Sarah, I have a few more tongue twisters for you, want?

  17. Aiyo, everyone, mai worry la, bo penalty will be imposed lor.. but it wuld b fun seeing sum of them speaking Mandarin lor.. I oso cant hold entire conversation in 1 language mah… Cheers.. Dolly

  18. Hi Dolly

It’s been a while since I last attended a monthly meeting and would like to come for this one, but I have a pending dinner invitation……so if the dinner does not materialise then I will materialise at the ‘Bra’……and you can put me in as ‘jiang zhua ji’ (quote Lai Fong)

    S@@kie

  19. Hi All,
Had been quite busy these days, hence, replies had been lean lor. Most updates were done by Lily, thanks, buddy..

But rest assured, I did read all commts regarding to this meeting lor…

    Cu next Friday… Cheers.. Dolly

  20. Hi Dolly,

I will attend the June monthly gathering at Cafe Bratislava next Friday. I will be there about 6.40 pm. after work. My command of the English language is definitely 100% better than the Mandarin language. If you judge that I can speak Mandarin well, then I will sing a Mandarin song in future.

    Cheers

    Bernie

  21. Hi Dolly,
This is my first time to the Bra Cafe, it would be very helpful if you could kindly tell me where is the nearest carpark.

    Kwai Yin

  25. Dear Dolly, Lily, Sam…

I was sweating, worried that I will be made to make a speech in Chinese. Phew! thanks goodness they spared me the agony.

Thanks very much for the birthday cake, card and also thanks to everyone who sang the birthday song for Terence and me. Appreciate the sweet and kind gesture very much. A pity Thomas had to cabut early.

Our birthdays are just one day apart from each other :)

Maybe we should have a big bash together for our 60th. No, we are not quite there yet.

I had a great birthday celebration!

    Have a great weekend everyone.

    Cheers
    Carly

  26. Thank you Dolly, Lily, I was caught surprised too. For those who did not come, the cake was so small, brown at the top, white in the middle and yellow at the bottom, and about 2 inch diameter, with 1 candle to be shared among 3 people.

I appreciate your remembering the date. I shall also be careful the next time, I travel with a group, especially if I have to hand over my passport. I am still 45.

    Terence Seah

  27. Hi Dolly, Lily, Caroline Gee and all,

  28. Bro Thomas

Aiya, I hear you calling already. But so bi… everyday, trying to find time for the house warming party. Will definitely let you know when I have a date. Yes, yes, I know its long overdue.

    Cheers
    Carly
