what i do on New Year’s eve?

I am now resting on a hammock between 2 mango trees at my wife’s parents home in Korat, some 3 hours North-east of Bangkok. Just had lunch with Tom Yam country chicken.

Feeling lazy and sleepy, I write to tell you the weather is a comfortable 22C. The only sound I hear is the movement of leaves and a family of chickens playing among themselves.

Am going to have a kid’s party at 3pm, with balloons, coconut ice-cream, bbq pork balls, beer and spy wine. It’s going to be fun. Wish you were here too.

  1. Hi Terence,
I am not sure how your peaceful slumber in the hammock ( dont rock it too much lah ) has anything to do with what is happening in BKK now, but do take care of yourself and family. Hope and pray, everything gets back to normal soon in Thailand. Cheers

  2. Hi Terence,
Very concern about what is happening in BKK and now Cheng Mai, seems we should have made our trip to CM earlier lah, now ??? .
By the way can you check where did you hang your hammock ? Is it at some sacred sites or burial grounds , you may have angered some ancient spirits. Better make arrangements for some kind of appeasements for what you may have consecrated lah ??? Why is it the moment you declare you have found nirvana and i was going to join you there in BKK and Cheng Mai and now all hell is breaking loose , can’t help blaming you in some way for stirring up our dreams lah. Now , will anyone ever have that peace of mind in Thailand, i wonder ?

  3. Dedicated to Terence

    Lying in a Hammock
Over my head, I see a butterfly,
    Asleep on the tree trunk,
Blowing like a leaf in the shadow.
Down the ravine behind the empty house,
The chicken cackle one after another
Into the distances of the afternoon.
    To my right,
In a field of sunlight between two mango trees,
The droppings of last year’s cow dung
    Blaze up into golden stones.
I look back, as the evening darkens and comes on.
A hawk glides above, looking for home.
    What a wonderful life.

  4. Charles and Ronald,

Thank you for the concern. I was planning to go to the Central World to celebrate the countdown, but decided to go up country instead.

Am going to give it a miss.

These bombings are a sad thing, and we can only wish for more understanding among the various groups.

Meantime, let’s wish for a better year.

  5. Thank God you still can surf the net while hiding in some country side…. pity some of them must be running for their lives in Bkk… ha.ha..
You shld hv just bring your family back to Spore & hv a countdown party here and watch fireworks :)p

  6. Haha, happy New year my friend, only got to read yr sharing now which I’ll paraphrase for some fun…….

” I am now resting on a hammock between Korat and Bangkok. Just had lunch with Tom Yam, a country chicken.

Am going to be a kid at 3pm, with balloons, coconut, mice-scream, pigs’ balls, bear and swine. It’s going to be fun. Wish you were here too. ”

If you do post an invitation here next year instead of seducing us so provacatively, I am sure even 2 chartered 777s wont be enough to take us all there.

  7. Charles, Susan and Tim,

I am coming back to Singapore today. Will be in Singapore for two days, and I am off again until the Pot luck.

Have fun. New Year is just over.
