  1. Yew Kwong says:
Its always a good idea to hold a pot luck gathering with the table layout with wide varities of food at our disposal. Be it home-made or buy off the shelves, every dish is delicious and extremely tasty. Not only will there be a lots of chat but also food talks.

I just cant wait for this day to come. I will bring chicken nuggets.

    Susan Chang Says:
Hi Terence, Yes – I am “ON” for the idea. Cooking & enjoying food is my interest. Do count me in. I will contribute something, of course. :)

    bocelli Says:
Terence, you really hv a brain that sparkles with ideas so how can I not join you 8 folks……….will meet johnson lock this wjend to negotiate a supply of his roast ducks with my touches for the finishing so as to make the food “mine”

    Joy Says:
    Hi

Food and fellowship go well together..we could have a picnic in the park..or we could have it at the pool of someone’s condo…I think this will be fun..

    Joy-full with food

    Shirley Says:
Great Idea….I love potlucks…eehh hopefully you guys organise it on a day that does not clash with my work schedule. meeting at east coast would be a great idea. I can bring something too. Shirley

    Lily Ho Says:
    I’m “in”.

    Ronald Wi Says:
Been waiting for this. Finally Terence found pot-luck, is easier that camping out and food can also be much better with more variety, also the company too. Cheers.

    bocelli Says:
Surely there’ll be more than enough food for all so maybe shd line up a few charity-homes as there will, for sure, be food to share with them. A great idea to end the year with.

    Christina Chan Says:
yippeee! Count me in. eating :D, need I say, pastime of most Singaporeans, mine as well. Cooking,oh boy,for large numbers..sorry I wont be able to :( I can order some ’solid food’ like fried beehoon for 100pax and perhaps add in additional ingredients ;;) what you thinking, I mean fried eggs, lah…

Suggestion: let’s gather at an accessible, centrally located park, with everyone chipping in to clean up the place after use. The Keep Singapore clean spirit!

    Cheng Says:
Christina, No need to order for 100pax. Suggest each bring enough for 4-5 persons and we will have variety already. The Botanics is quite a nice place and sometimes they have a concert at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage so we can go early, lay the mats sit around, eat and chat and watch the concert. For enthusiastic Silverhairs, they can go for walks around the garden too.

    LHJie Says:
When exactly is this pot luck? Is the time and venue fixed yet?. Count me in, hopefully it does not clash with my week in Malaysia.

    Eliza Chua Says:
Please let me know the time and venue. If it doesn’t clash with my schedule, I look forward to seeing u guys.

    Thks Eliza

    Gary Says:
Just imagine the situation when there is a limited supply of a certain kind of dish, say, curry puffs-what will happen? “Ai-yah why you make/bring so little, I never got a chance to eat leh..” Needs more careful planning ah-so?? For those serious about food, like that quite difficult & leh-chay to cater leh… other options?? or say -hey, just too bad lah!!

    terence Says:
We are looking for a big place eg a bungalow or large empty space. Can you get a place, large enough for 100 people?

    Ann Says:
Terence, is the date fixed yet? Earlier suggestions of parks and Botanic Garden sound good.

Gary, its pot luck, each to bring enough for 3 or 4, to make a sum total of a great, big spread. So, if everyone do their part, there should be excess food, albeit a great variety of it. Someone must take charge to ensure not everyone bring fishballs, or beehoon, or watermelons…. no variety and at the end of the gathering, everyone will be sick of fishballs, beehoon or watermelons.

Its gaining momemtum, this potluck thing…. hope it turns out well!

    Yew Kwong Says:
Up in mountains over 2,000m above sea-level with (jack) pot luck in Malaysia. With a big place eg a bungalow or large empty space large enough for 100 people. That reminds me of Genting Highlands. Hmmm. Its a good idea.

  2. Tentatively, the date is fixed on 13 Jan 07, the 2nd Sat of the month.

More information will be posted here later on after the details are work out.

    Charles, Yew Kwong & Terence

  3. So, tentatively, the PL is in January 2007 and so tentatively, there isnt any more big event for the rest of the Year 2006? Well, I suppose it makes good sense not jostle with kids for space at the east coast park which becomes their playground during the year end school holidays.

It too makes good sense that the venue will be at the ECP, allowing walk/cycle activists to do their time before joining in the makan besar.

How nice if the cyclists (and maybe even the walkists too) can help out by picking up food from members and sending them to the venue…hehe, afterall, cycling only what but you guys will be thanked profusely and with bent knees for the kind gesture.

  4. Hi, I will be bringing a pot of Devil’s Curry. Those who need a ride, I can pick you up at Bishan MRT taxi stand. Timing has to be as early as 3.30pm because I will be cycling, and cyclists meet at 4pm.

  5. Terence & All SHC Members,

I’m looking forward to joining all of you but do you think that we should apply for a permit for such a big group gathering @ Public Places ?

It will also be a good idea to play some games example : treasure hunt, beach ball, egg and spoon relay, animals matching, etc…..

Wow!! I can visualise that there will be many varieties of authentic foods, mouth savouring snacks and drinks in this coming Pot Luck Session.

    Eagerly looking forward – Cheers

    Have a Nice Day

    Patrick Yeo

  6. Hahaha, Patrick, you never failed to excite me, this time with yr beefball, treasured hunk matching spoons and eggs & animal relay……..with food & more glorious food to boot.

Technically it’ll be very safe if we hold a permit for the function, but if it’s too much a bother, think we can do without that.

Well, 7 Jan 2007 may be a day too distant to wait but like the robinson people like to say, it’s “a sail worth waiting for”, yes, everyone needs time to prepare to catch the wind.

  7. Just like to congratulate Terence and the rest of the team for putting in so much effort in making the Talent Time a great success. Although I was not able to get a seat for the occasion, I felt that I was in the crowd too when I viewed those pictures. Looks like everyone had a great time, so keep up the good rapport and company. Kudos to SHC and its members who are all here to make things happen!

    Regards
    Lisa

  8. Hi

Want to say thank you to Terence and Yew Kwong for the wonderful time my wife and I had at Changi Beach Club. Certainly we would not like to miss this pot luck. We will be bringing some Indian Rojak. Suggest that each one bring his/her own plate, fork and spoon and cup to ease the burden of the organiser providing them.
Looking forward to see all soon.

    Cheers
    Jeffrey and Maureen

  9. Great!!

I’ll bring a Eurasian punch (don’t worry, no alcohol) enough for about 20 persons including disposable cups.

I agree with the idea to bring your own plate, fork and spoon and cup as this will indeed help organisers. Someone could bring garbage bags as well.

Botanic Gardens may be a better location as there would be shelter if it rains? in January.

    Happy planning!
    Kenneth

  10. Huh, all the BYOs but dont we think that one important BYO has been left out? I will bring enough toilet papers for wiping more than oily hands….enough for at least 2 servings.

  11. Hey Terence,

If the date and no. of people is confirmed, I can check out the Eastvale Condo’s function room which I can book with a refundable deposit. It’s fully air-conditioned & there are table & chairs for use. Let me know if you need me to do that. FYI, this function room is just next to the swimming pool and there’s also a park nearby for fishing or leisure walking etc.

    Lisa

  12. This event is less than one and a half month from now. Its time to compile the most wanted information to get things organised.

Appreciate members’ replies as follows :

If you are participating in cycling or walking and pot luck –
Example : Yew Kwong (cycling, chicken nuggets for 20 persons)

If you are not participating in cycling or walking (maybe not decided) but pot luck only –
Example : Yew Kwong (chicken nuggets for 20 persons)

  13. Count me in. Where is Eastvale Condo ? Another possible venue is West Coast Park. Someone has to co-ordinate the food. This is to avoid too many members bringing the same food.

  14. just thinking how to bring fried beehoon & go for the walk as well with bus 11…perhaps it is easier to bring just the beehoon and have it fried there and then, Fresh food! but what about the beansprouts, eggs, etc. [scratching my head]. I know! I’ll bring disposables cups, fork & spoons! Also sachets kopi-O(2-in-1) but need someone to bring the Hot water if we are having it in the open field.

  15. Many thanks to Happy Lisa for volunteering to offer Eastvale function room which will save us a lot of hassle (washing/toilets with toilet papers)and the cool comfort of airconditioning.

However, this might scupper the planned activities of cyclists & walkists who will probably find it a lot more convenient if the venue is at east coast park.

But for now, we need organisers…not entirely fair for Terence & his usual gang to do everything. I am prepared to help………who’s next?

    tim

  16. Cantonese members would know what is “Fu jok, pak guo, yi-maai tong sui”. For non-Cantonese, it means “dried bean curd, gingko nuts and barley dessert”.

  17. Yes, Cheng, those are time-tested “tzui for tong” (lowered-heatiness soup)which really works so if yr yi-ma gu-j has helped to make the yi-maai tong sui, do pls invite her to come along……she cd drop me tips on how to make the best broth.

  18. Now that Johnson wants to Lock up his ducks for Chinese New Year, I will have to approach Donald for his duck. Yes, a duck will accompany me on that day.

    tim

  19. We have had a go with our tongue-in-cheek expressions but there is a serious concern expressed by some members : accessibility of the venue, not least “how to go back?”.

Many of us dont drive. Making the way there with food et al is a lesser problem as it’s easy to flag down a can from our homes. But the return trip can be a hassle if the venue (assuming it’s at east coast park)is a long walk away to the bus roads, and a wrench for members who’ll hv to take home their pots & utensils.

Well, before food for the stomach, we do hv a bit of food for thought.

  20. Hi

Still considering on attendance. If can make it will bring fried rice for those who need to have it for dinner. Understand some need rice to feel full.

    Gwyneth

  21. Hi everyone, I am a new SHC member and would like to join in your Potluck gathering on the 13th of January 2006. Tentatively, I will be preparing some spicy nasi goreng. Problem is I do not know how to get to the East Coast Park from where I am staying at the moment , which is Hougang. Anyone out there staying nearby? Maybe we could meet somewhere in Hougang and travel to the East Coast Park together?

  22. Please don’t leave me out. I have reserved this day for this event. I will definately bring something edible, but can’t decide now. It’s wonderful to meet SHC members with a variety of food. See u.

    Cheers

  23. Hi Suzhang

Sorry for the late reply (just got back from Korea). Glad to give you a ride. Can pick you up at 3.30pm. Please SMS me to confirm. Looking forward to meeting you.

    Lily Ho

  24. Hello,
Since the location is near to seven 11, I will bring some tarts instead of bottles of drinks as i am coming on my own. Insect repellent is handy in my handbag too.. looking forward to meet up with u and pray for a fine weather.

    clara

  25. Hi everyone

I am Venika Leong. Newly joined member today. Hope to get to know you guys and gals on this coming Sat. Pot Luck. Definitely cooking something. I would love to volunteer. Let me know in what way I can of help.

    See all of you ya!
    Venika (using Rene id)

  26. Hahaha, Yew Kwong, sorie, I cant help it but coming charging at you again.

Apparently, you hv lost contact with yr friend the weather master. Up there everything is in a mess – adam airplane disappearing, rain falling uncontrollably, temperature of 20 deg in winter -and so the weatherman is battling all forces to restore order. In such frenzy, he wont hv the time to read yr email lah. So Clara’s prayer perhaps will work better.

hatever, let’s wait for the confirmation on the day itself……….if it rains, neither yr or clara’s prayer works; if, weather is fine, maybe it’s bcos the weatherman read my posting here?

  27. Hi, everyone

I’ll be joining the walk & the pot-luck too.
Would be bringing black trash bags & mahjong papers for all those lovely food that so many of you are bringing & some food too(can’t decide what yet, depending on whether I can get a lift or not)
I’m in the west – Clementi, Ghim Moh or Holland Village_ would be fine for me.
Anyone who can offer me a lift, pl call or sms me.
    Thanks

  28. For those who are taking public transport, 401 from Bedok Interchange brings you to just outside MacDonald’s. You may take the MRT to Bedok Station then walk to the interchange. The berth for 401 is on the left side of the SBS office. I have copied the bus schedule from the interchange. Hope it helps.

  29. Thanks to Cheng for her thoughtfulness. Now I think I can find my way there. If not, I shall have to eat all the fried noodles myself and miss out on all the other delicious food that I am dreaming of…

  30. Dear all,

This is my first time joining you all for the cycling cum Pot Luck gathering. So snacks like potato chips is a must,I will bring that for all of you………..

  31. I regret to inform that I won’t be able to make it today as I am not feeling too well due to cold & cough. Looking forward to the next ‘Get Together’.

  32. For those who were unable to make it tonight for the Pot Luck, do join us the next time. It was a great evening, and we all had a lot of fun.

We were also very lucky the rain came down only at about 11pm.

    Terence

  33. Thank you Terence & everyone for making the event so memorable. It’ll certainy kick-start a year we can all look forward to.

Food was good and plentiful, our mood was playful & the evening was a caressing cool. We had no inhibition in forming a circle to sing & wave our ritual thanks to the weatherman for keeping the rain away. Everythg was spontaneous, not least, Terence’s glee trying to find his honey in the sea.

for once I was liberal with my stomach, mixing the ice cream, longan tahu with chicken curry to bring out the devil. Needless to say, i had a good gush the next morning.

  34. The day the rain DID NOT come down. The Gods were really smiling down on us. A beautiful day sandwiched between rainy days. Enjoyed the day very much. Thanks to Terence and the organisers.
