Looking for travelmates to Europe in Oct

I am looking for 4-8 fellow SilverHairs, game to go on a 15-day travel, via the Eurail Global Pass. The 1st class Global Pass Saver allows unlimited consecutive-day train travel, throughout 18 European countries.

Website http://www.euraildirect.com/.  Online booking on Internet is USD 539 555/pax for two to travel (USD 655 if travelling alone).  Airfare on KLM (checked on 1 March 2007) is SGD 1200 per person.  Not cheap.  Got to look around.  Try www.zuji.com and Qotar airline.  Now, we should look for a travel agent to provide for a group of 8 people.

Date: ETA Amsterdam 30 Sep – ETD Amsterdam 14 Oct 2007(confirmed). This period is the end Autumn season, low peak period, beginning of cold season, some snow in some countries, Oct Festival in Germany and cheaper travel than in the summer period.

Costs: Participants buy own ticket Sin/Amsterdam/Sin. Every two participants buy the Eurail tickets together. No hotels and no expensive restaurants.

Requirements: Legs got to be fit. You walk 7am – 9pm everyday for 15 days. Plenty of castles, meuseums, huge department stores, scenic views, rivers, etc. Cannot be food fussy. Buy local food and drinks from supermarket.  Travelmates must not impose on other travelmates.

Daily schedule: Arrive 6 – 7 am each day at a different city. Brush and bath at clean, safe and dedicated restrooms. Towels, soap provided. There is a small fee.  Put big luggage at the Stored Luggage at railway station, and pack a small bag to carry around throughout the day. Spend whole day in the city. Totally free and easy. Select the next city, and take the next train in the evening. Sleep on board.

If you have not done EuroRail style travel in Europe, this will be fun.  So, if you are interested, please drop your name here. We will organise a few meetings to get to know one another better, before actual trip.

1st chit chat and get-to-know one another: Wed, 4 April 2007, 1830 – 2030 hrs.

  • Confirmed ETA Amsterdam Sun, 30 Sep, ETD Amsterdam Wed, 14 Sep.  Participants can extend, own option.
  • Some adjustment agreed to spend more days in the same city.

  1. Wowee!!

Terence, It brings back many sweet memories when I travelled by Eurail throughout Europe over 20 years ago. I’ve made three trips using Eurail, going mainly to western European countries (the east was communist-controlled), followed the $20-a-day Frommer’s guides (yes, it was US$20 a day back then), stayed and strayed at many destinations.

Now, having arrived at SilverHair status, the toils and travails of such a journey would seriously impede any ambitions to undertake such an herculean odyssey.

But, I could possibly join your team as an armchair traveller. And share my own experience and maybe outdated knowledge of train travel in Europe if you need any input.

So, all you young and not-so-young, Terence has thrown down the gauntlet… it seems that he’s challenging us to take the plunge…

    Eeeeeiaaah!!!

  2. I think it will be a wonderful trip but I am not sure my body can take it,… 7am to 9pm on the feet continuously for 14 days and sleep in the train every night! all the time on the move.
Maybe not so difficult as it seems,… terence, any advice for those who have not done it before.
Interested to participate, please keep me in the loop.
    thanks
    charles

  3. Kenneth,

I luv the Eurail travels. Yes, it is for those whose legs can bring them to see the world. I see my legs are getting lazy. So, I am rushing to meet my deadlines.

Do continue to wash us from afar. And, send us your experiences too. It will benefit us the travellers.

    Terence

  4. Charles,

I must have done this Eurail at least 5 times in the last 20 years. Each year, I get older, and each year, I increase the number of stops at the open air cafe bars. More cuppicinos, more sandwiches, and more times enjoy the fresh cold air.

Well keep in touch. We don’t have cold seasons in Singapore.

    Terence

  5. Hi Terence,

I will take up this challenge provided the dates fall on Middle of Oct till end Oct. That’s the only available long vacation that I can take.

I will be back to keep myself updated here.

  6. Hahaha, indeed, Charles.

Assuming a brisk walk @ 10 km/hour from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. daily over 14 days, the almost 2,000 km will take the walker all the way from spore to mongolia to say hello to the camels or siberia to make snowmen or to india to order a computer system from forte.

  7. Hi Terence,

I am new to SHC. I left full-time work recently and came across the SHC site. Your proposal sounds interesting. I would like to participate if the timing is right. Please keep me in the loop. Thanks.

    HK Cheong

  8. Hi Terence

I will take up this challenge provided the dates fall from Mid Oct till end Oct. That’s the only available long vacation that I can take.

Walking and climbing for min. 9-10 hours a day shouldn’t be a problem for me. I went to the Himalaya regions and rather enjoyed it.

Everything is possible with the right preparation eg: brisk walk and climb stairs twice, thrice a week.

    Keep me in the loop.

  9. Hi Terence

There are few responses to your call for travellers… maybe you should relax a little and cater for some “easy access” travelling. I got this definition from Rick Steve’s book on Easy Access Europe. He’s written many guides to Europe on a budget and, at present, I’m going thru a couple of them, including this one for the wheelchair bound. Haha!

    Well, on to Eurail travel:
Yes, two to five travelling together can qualify for a Saverpass at US$498 for 15 days consecutive travel.

Train travel over a long distance may enable you to sleep on board, but Europe is such a condensed area I think that journeys of more than 7 hours are not too common to undertake to save on hotels.

I did do a crazy 14 hours from Venice to Paris just to catch a scheduled flight. And a sleeper from Paris to Nice on a much more leisurely leg. But, really, it’s only two to three hours from city or, even country to country.

I suggest you consider a base-city method of travel i.e. stay at Munich, go to Salzburg, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck, Nuremberg

then move on to Bern, Switzerland. Again, travel to destinations around like Interlaken and Lucerne

then finally to Paris and the surroundings

Do you plan to go to London, UK?

I suggest an open-jaw airticket landing you (for instance) in Rome and return from Paris to cut down on backtracking. You need to find a cheap airline also.

Me, I’m just dreaming and recalling the times I had during the ’80s… sigh!

    Kenneth

  10. Hi Terence

I would like to join the Europe trip, due to work commitment I am not able to take leave in October. May I know is it possible to change to December?

    Thank you

    Rosanne

  11. Hi Terence,

I would like to join but unable to do so this year how about organising another trip next year
    (after March 08).

    Thanks
    Christina

  12. Hi, I am relatively fixed for October, unlikely to be Dec. let’s now look out for the airfares.

    Terence seah

  13. I am a little fearful of the cold weather. Yes I can take the challenge if its just walking lightly but we need to put some practice on brisk walking for caution sake wen can we meet again on this subj. pls give me more infos to follow up. rgds thanks
    Mike

  14. Hi Terence,

I would like to join you but unfortunately, the timing is not right. If the trip is in December or next year, I am surely on.

  15. I really need a break from work and daily routine. Unfortunately this is too long a break. Also, I don’t know if I can take this kind of holiday, so I don’t want to be a burden to the rest of the travellers.

I would like to go on short trips around the region. It would be nice to find a travelling companion. If you have the same thoughts and are an experienced traveller and would like to travel with me, maybe you can write to me at xx88sg@gmail.com. I would be delighted to hear from you.

    Joyfully waiting…

  16. Hi everybody, I am so glad to hear your many responses. One thing sure is Oct is a good period, and I do register the other months. Again unlikely, but keep your feedback coming. anybody got good suggestions on airfares.

    Terence Seah

  17. Oh, I want, I want….. this is even more exciting than the Hydrabad’s planned trip. Please keep me in the loop.

  18. Hahahaha!!

Ann, I like your response “I want, I want!”

It makes me feel young again, to have someone so eager and game to join.

Terence, you have a great group assembling for your planned trip and I salute your efforts!

But I think that April is too long a time for your next meeting. You guys must meet to firm up your programme and trip arrangements; for instance, dates and airtickets come first. Then your itineraries, do all have the same gungho energy to carry out your punishing schedule?

I am really keen to send you fellas off!

  19. Kenneth, I shall take your advice to meet on a earlier date. Let me look into my diary and I shall come back to everybody.

Airfares to Europe, looking at $800. Anybody knows of any good fares. 12 hours flight.

    Terence

  20. Hi Terence,
Plse include me in yr meeting. I will like to know more… My last trip on Eurail was in the 80s. That was my first trip travelling solo for 2 mths. I was alone but not lonely as I met many many wonderful people along the way.

  21. Yes, Terence the Europe trip sounds good. But afraid that hv to sleep in the train, rather tough. May give a try & see how things go. Count me in the 1st meeting on 4th April 07. Thanks.

  22. I know not everybody can make this date of meeting up on 4 april. But, we have to move on, and start from here.

Do note, this is not a SHC activity. Just a private crazy, scared to getting old travel plan.

    1st meeting:
    Date/time: 4th April 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm.
    Meet at Dhoby Ghout MRT.
Please SMS me at 9489-4360,, if you can attend.

If you cannot make this time, we will have another one, after the 1st meeting.

    Terence Seah

  23. October is a good time to visit Europe – avoiding the summer vacationers and strikes. Beautiful colours and mild weather good for walking tour. Unable to attend the 1st meeting, and although I’m not the back-packing type, I would like to sit in on your next meeting…. that is, if it’s alright with you gals and guys.

  24. Hi Terence,
I will be joining you for the 4th April meeting . And like to discuss at the meeting if your backpack travel program could be modified to accomodate those with weaker/wobbly legs and those who need to sleep on firm ground from time to time.
    charles

  25. Hi Terence,
I have not been to any Europe trip but this looks interesting. Unfortuntely I cannot take the coldness. What will the temperature be? Can consider. Unable to attend meeting today. Can keep me posted. Drink more whisky or brandy to curb the coldness I guess.

  27. My German friend said Prague is a city you must not missed…. its the best city in the whole of Europe..”better than Paris”, and definitely cheaper. Shall we include this city in our travels?

  28. The numbers are now down to 4 people. The next meeting Thurs, 14 Jun 2007, same time, at Plaza Food court.

Discussion topic: trip details – preparation, what to bring, air tickets, rail tickets, expenses and must-go places.

    Terence Seah

  29. Hi Terence – I didnt know this post exists till 2day. Even tho I may not make it this year, can I join in d talk on 14 June 2hear n share my experiences of backpacking Russia, Europe, Scotland, Canada, Taiwan, China, Perth; or be there as what Kenneth said ‘armchair traveller’ Thru this, 4future backbacking, I can also learn frm u all what I may not know or missed.

  30. Hi Terence. I would love to go too if only time had permitted. I love “Fall”. The beautiful colours of “Fall” always make me go ga-ga. Anyway, tried to resign but my colleagues wont hear of that so it seems I am stuck here for a while. My sister backpacks a lot before she got married. She has seen Prague, Peru, Brazil,Mexico, India, most of Europe, New Zealand, Denver, most of Asia and the list goes on. She truly enjoyed backpacking cos she gets to meet people from all walks of life. Some backpackers are actually very well off but they enjoy this style of travel. Just like people who can afford a luxury car but prefers to cycle or ride the Harleys. My sister encouraged me to go on one of these trips and that I will love it. But just like you Terence, I am a afraid. I dare not sleep alone in a hotel room. I always imagine all kinds of “out of this world” or the “supernatural” thing sharing the bed with me. Its really a pity I cannot join you all.
Hopefully next year, there is another of this kind of trip and of course hopefully, I am “retired” by then, I would love to go along. So for now, I will just dream on and I wish all those who are going, a Happy Holiday and a Safe Trip.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  36. Hi Terence,

To accept is one thing, facing reality is another.
Hope, is a simple word, but it fills the world; it fills MY WORLD.
If only you could feel the disappointment, you would not have add in that pinch of salt.

By the forum you want things go, if only I knew it so.
Being only a member not too long ago, (being the wiser) you could have advised me so.

    Just being overly sensitive,
    Anne

    You wrote….eye-opener side lanes.

Did you manage to see those “TIGRESSES” in their transparent cages ?

Keep us update abt your EXCITING “Survival Europe” Holidays.

    Have Fun!

  51. Tim, Mary, June, Steven, Ronald, and everybody,

I do like to encourage everybody to share with other SilverHairs their holiday and retirement plans. So, here’s the 3rd and 4th day.

Arrive Sion, from Amsterdam. Checked into the base camp of the Nendaz ski resort, Snow comes only in Dec. Morning track 10 kms up the mountains to a dam, made in 1953. Back late afternoon, had some whiskies and dinner. So nice to rest our legs. Cheong’s sole came off, afterway the walk. View was wonderful, pine trees, snow on mountain peaks, and fresh cold air.

This resort belongs to Ann’s sister. We really enjoy it. Going to stay one more night, and off to Florence on Thursday.

    Steven, plenty of tigress.

Tim, I am stay here in Europe till 15 Oct.

Have fun, and I look forward reading all SilverHairsClub Posts and Comments, even thousands of feet, up the Swiss mountains.

Terence, HK Cheong, Ann Giri and Nok

  52. Hi Terence and grp,

In Florence, instead of whiskies/beers you could also ENJOY their home-brewed ORIGINAL taste of “Cappucino” and Sphagetti Bolognaise. YUMMY!and SEDAP! while listening to the soothing music of “3 coins in a fountain” and O Sole Mio.

Are you all heading to Rome or Venice ?

  53. Wow, u are in Europe now!! Reminds me of my trip 3 years back with Norlinda and another friend to Ldn, Paris and Amsterdam. It was so easy hopping on and off the Eurostar train.

Yor pine trees, snow on mountain peaks, and fresh cold air reminds me of my recent trip to the Rockies. The view was awesome with the autumn colors, trees in shades of yellow, orange and red, snow peaked majestic mountains, lakes of clear emerald waters and crisp cool air….Mmmmmmm.

Travelling is such fun…and “funner” with the right company :-))))

At my age, son already young man, and I still can walk fast as knees not giving problems yet, still can bite hard as teeth not dropping off yet, still drawing a salary blah blah…I must pamper myself with holiday trips overseas at least 1 “grand” one a year. Of course not counting trips to nearby countries, esp to to Genting to play the jackpots and Carribean Stud :-))) And of course to save some for older age :-)))

  54. Hey Terence

You made us jealous by telling us where you are and what you do, this time, thousand feet high up the Swiss mountains. Won’t it be complete if you could send us some pictures too ? We want to see how you look like with your blonde hair leh..ha..ha..

    Take care !
    Susan

  55. Terence,
If I were younger, I would be more adventurous like you, but I much prefer to travel in comfort nowadays. So I get to see less in exchange.
Well, I hope to see some of it sometime next year.
Have fun and bring back lots of photos to show us. :-)

  56. Hmm, didn’t realise that the Leaning Tower of Pisa allows tourists to climb all the way to the top. There must be a few thousands tourist there during the weekends.

Florence, fashion city. And great Roman architecture. On getting into our train sleeper beds, we were trying to configure 4 beds into 6 beds, for 6 people. Only to realise that we can do it ourselves, except with a special key from the train attendent. Made fun of ourselves. Cheers, and now we are in Munich. Time for beer.

    Terence

  57. Oy Terence,
I thought there were 4 of you when you left, now I see 6. Did you have a room full of rabbits along the way.???
Happy to know all is well and having a good time. Did you have time to go to Versailles???
    Oktoberfest now…..Oompah…oompah.

  58. Hi Terence and co,

    You are all very LUCKY
indeed to climb the Pisa Towers now while when we were there, the
    tower was under renovation.

In Munich, do nOT forget to visit the famous Black Forest,ie the place where there made the wooden Cuckoo clocks. Cuckoo! Cuckoo!from the woods collected in the forest.

And in Paris,do visit the Eiffel Tower and let the lift take to you to the HIGHEST level. Fantastic Panoramic scene of the
River,City and a view of the “Golden” bridge with the Napoleon Bonaparte palace in the background.

Do not miss the scenic ride in their ferry that will tour along River Seine.Another beautiful sight.

And with more time,do visit the Paris Louvre Museum ( movie location of Da Vinci Code ) where you will see great collections of paintings, exhibits and statues and you may view it here at http://www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home.jsp?bmLocale=en

Ooh la la! here comes the world famous Crazy Horse Mademoiselles.A feast for your eyes only and a ride on their Metropolitan mass transit ride.

With EXTRA more time, visit the Versailles Palace as well.

Keep updating us. we are very excited about your European trip.

    Have fun,
    Steven Chan

  59. Hi Terence,

From the way u said it, it seemed dat u din climb up the Pisa Tower – dat wud be a pity. It’s really quite scary wen at the top. U get the feeling dat u are sliding off the bldg with only a single railing to hold on to. This was 23 years ago before the repair. Today, the leaning tower is not as tilted as it was back then.

  60. Lily,

You are right. We didn’t go up, but we took one hour to walk around it. That’s Italy.

Now, we are sitting in the octoberfest grounds in Munich. Huge grounds. Maybe 6 football fields. Half drunk with beer, duck and chicken.

Cool 10C. Dry and an atmosphere of fun and year-end festivities.

    Terence

  61. Terence, you must hv leaned more than the Pisa Tower leans, so much so that with yr neck out-stretched looking for pizza-making mafias, the French rugby team yanked on it all the way to Marseilles (where the world cup rugby is being played) and so scared the shit out of the All Blacks…..how else wd you explain the Kiwi’s loss?

Now that you’re in munich, dont forget to pick a piece of the berlin wall remnants and bring home………it’s said that, with that, you can get sby not only to lift its sand ban to sg but build free sandcastles for us stretching from the east to the west coast………

  62. Wow, finally, after 14 days, I am now back in Singapore. Copenhagen was the last city. Saw the little mermaid, in freezing cold weather.

Well, I will do this Eurail travel again. Maybe in two years time. Demanding, yet fun and easy. inclusive airfair and rail, food and Beverage, spent approx 3,500 per person. Too much, got to cut it down further.

    Terence Seah

  63. You were just another one of the millions who saw the little mermaid in Copen unlike me amongst the very selected few whom the mermaid not only saw but looked intently at……..and in my case, she actually smiled at me.

Go there again, you might be luckier the next time.

  64. Tim,

When I was in Copenhagen, I asked for directions to the Little mermaid. The locals were very helpful, and after giving me the directions, they told me I had may not be able to see the mermaid, as she had gone home.

Then, they went into a little laughter. Seems a very local Copenhagen joke.

    Terence Seah

  65. Precisely, Terence, and it wasnt a joke.

See, the stone mermaid sits there everyday for all to see like her uglier kin the merlion. But the real mermaid is presented only to the privileged, also like the blood & flesh merlion (you nvr saw the real one, right? I did and he’s abt 85 years old.)

Nvm, I know her dad and will arrange for you 2 to sit opposite each other and what happens next is for you both to work out………….dont forget yr swimming trunks…..she cant walk hor.

(ooops, will Nok be reading this?)

  66. Here’s the update on the Eurorail travel to Europe in 2016. I like to share sith you what are the firmed pointers.

    1. The travel period is in Oct 2016. This period is chosen because it is the beginning of the off-peak period in Europe. Train seats are more easy, and places of interests are cheaper and most Europeans have gone back to work.

    2. Particpants buy their own air-ticket and Eurorail ticket, which can only be purchased ouside Europe. For example, if we start in Amsterdam, and we end in Amsterdam, you have to find your own way to fly to Amsterdam.

    3. The exact date in Oct is not firmed. I will likely announce in Jan 2016.

    4. Eurorail travel requires us to start the train journey from one city; and ends 14 days later in another city. For example: Sin/Amsterdam/Sin.

    5. We are likely to spend 3 nights out of 14 nights in a hotel. All other nights will be sleeping in the train.

    6. Usually, we will start the journey from one city to another city at night, after dinner. For example, start 10pm and arrive the next morning at about 6-7am. On alighting, we havre breakfast, European bread, After breakfast, we do what we like, eg taking a city tour, shopping, museum, castle, shoppping, enjoying the river rides, etc. Everybody finds their own lunch. Then you continue after lunch, and get back to the train station by 6-7pm. We will then hunt for dinner, usually from a department store/supermarket. We do our night’s train reservation and have a bath. We then board the train, at scheduled time of say 11pm.

    7. Generally, all travellers in our group should pair together or group in 4. This is ideal for shared eating, safety, looking after luggages in turn, taking baths or just going toilets. Each group can go anywhere or divert if they feel like doing so. We can always catch up in the next city, if we miss one another.

    8. Every morning, we take a bath, brush ourselves up at a proper clean convenience room, where towels, soaps, hot water are provided. We can poo poo, etc before we start the day. After breakfast, we put our main luggage in a locker, which we can share, at the train station. Slot in some money, and we can keep our luggages at the train station. We bring a small bag behind our back.

    9. We can go to Cophagen, Stockholm, Madrid, Amsterdam, Berlin, Rome, some islands in the Meditarean, river cruises, Paris. In fact, we can go 14 cities in 14 days.

If you are interested to join in this trip, do put your name in, and you will be connected to the main group via Whatsapp before the year ends. You may drop out of the group 3 months before we travel. I also suggest you find a group of 2 or 4. Look out for your favourite airline. You may be able to get a airline ticket return for less than $1000. For the train ticket, the price may be around $1000 or less, if bought in group.

    Terence Seah

  67. Hi Terence
This Eurorail trip sounds like ‘Grandpas over flowers’ or ‘Aunties over flowers’ – 2 very interesting Korean reality shows. In these two shows, there was a younger person looking after them.
I have never travelled like this before – having no one to look out for you; being responsible for oneself from booking air-ticket to finding the way to meet the others in the group in a strange place – oh dear, I already get cold feet thinking about the immense responsibily! (lol!) . I’m more familiar with being looked after and being reminded to take action for crucial things along the trip. (lol), so while this trip sounds so very interesting, I don’t have the courage nor the confidence to join – might be a liability or get lost. (lol!)
Wish I were 20 years younger and full of stamina! All the best to those joining this great adventure. :)

  68. Hi JassmineT,

Actually, I find your comment very encouraging. There are many members like you too, the difference is you speak out. For those who had traveled with me, they realised they had to do some work to join the trip.

They had to book their own air tickets, very often to book their own hotels or at least play a part in the choice of hotels. In this way, we play an active role in the trip, and not leave the key costs to the travel agents.

I travel many places, and I encourage SilverHairsClub members to travel together as companions. This is a great way to make friends. While our legs can still walk, let’s see the world. Keep costs low and yet keep our brains and eyes open.

Find some common friends, and you may join this Eurorail trip next year.

  69. I’ll will join the trip. Oct 2016 seems still far far away from now, but if we look back at that point in time, today may just like a yesterday.

I will take notes on your comments of this post. If there are some e-mail circulations, please put me in the loop. Thanks

  70. Re the Eurorail 14 day trip in Oct 2016, I just notice an offer by Turkish airline for Sin/Europe return ticket at SGD 974, all taxes included. However, the date was for travelling May-July 2015.

    Keep a watch out.

  71. I will see if I can overcome sleeping in ;the trains, shall look out for frens to pair with, perhaps cross path at certain cities.

  72. Hi Terence
I just got back from my solo Europe trip. I covered Amsterdam, Munich, Salzburg, Vienna and Bratislava (13-25 March). Slept in the night trains to save cost and stayed mostly at hostel dorms. I met many young girls from Korea/ Japan/ Vietnam/China travelling alone.I wished I had done this earlier. But it’s never too late while my legs can still take it. Now I can’t wait to go Europe again but perhaps cover Eastern Europe cities. It would be nice to have company though. So please keep me in the loop through your whatsapp. I can only travel during school holidays. Thanks in advance.

  73. Hi Laura, and members interested in joining me to Europe in Oct 2016,

Congratulations, and also for doing Europe solo. Yes, you said the right word, “while our legs can take it”. For those who are worried that the trip may be too difficult, it is not. Instead of staying in the hotel at night, you just sleep on a first class train. You will have company, fellow members. And if you are tired, there are cafes, shopping centres, parks where you can laze many hours.

So, if you have always wanted to be young, think about it. A 14 day trip to Europe on the Eurorail. Laura, welcome to the discussionn.

  74. For members who are thinking of joining the Europe train travel in Oct 2016, please note the train pass is called “Eurail Global Pass”. It can be confusing if you are searching the internet, as there are various names. We are going for the 15 day Eurail Global pass.

    The 28 countries covered are:
Austria Belgium Bulgaria Bosnia and Herzegovina Czech Republic Croatia Denmark France Finland Hungary Germany Greece Ireland Italy Luxembourg Montenegro Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania Serbia Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland Turkey

    The website is eurail.com.
    1. Participants will have to buy the rail pass online, on your own. The earliest date you can buy is 6 months before travel, outside Europe.
    2. Good to buy in groups of 4 as cheaper. For adults, not youths. Note: Oct travel. Approx USD 700 per person, first class. 14 days; but rail pass will have free extension days, 3specially when winter comes.
    3. Note: UK is not in the list of countries.
    4. Budget: Flight between SGD 1000 – 1300. Eurail Global Pass about USD 700.

LauraW, please help with your advice since you are the latest European traveller.

  75. Hi Terence
I would like to be in the travel team. Please keep me in the loop.

    Thank you.

  76. Hi
For 15 days, one defintwly cannot cover all 28 countries. Its best ro plan a route…example. .. Germany-Denmark -Finland-Norway-Sweden. Or Greece-Turkey-Bulgaria-Romania-Hunagary-Slovakia-Czech Republic. Or Venice-through northern Italy covering Milan and Turin (to see Sheoud of Christ)- Monte Carlo-Cannes-Marseilke-cross over to Spain and Portugal.
Also bear in mind that not all Europe countroes use Euro dollars. Its easy if cover those using euro as no need to bother about changing currency.
Thats my 2 cents worth contribution thus far..
As for Rail Savers… I found out min 2 pax can gwt cheaper train tickets. But I didnt buy any of those. I just went to train station and ask. In Munich..they have special fares covering Bavarian region…so places like Fussen and Salzburg (Austria) have return fares for €25 and just 2 hour rides & must travel after 9 am to get this special price.
Hope sone of these info helps. Msg me on whatsapp for more details.

  77. For our 2 week Europe on Eurail Global Pass, I am planning to have a meeting at our next SHC monthly gathering.

We can talk about what’s exciting in Europe, and even firm up our tentative dates and the tentative starting and ending cities. However, it will be in Oct as this is the beginning of the off-peak travel season in Europe. This will be a relaxing Europe trip on train wheels.

Before you book your air tickets, please book your travel insurance, so that it can handle cancellations. See you the SHC monthy gathering.
