  1. Hi Lily,
I would love to come over with some Mandarin oranges and join the lion dance. Looks like you start Chinese New year earlier. I am in Bangkok, enjoy the New year.

  2. Hi dear Terence,
I believe what Lily posted above is a piece of very useful and interesting info for LINE dance, not Lion dance!

So, maybe you can try to organise a lion dance… in fact it is a very good chinese culture, and something very challenging to learn.

  3. Lily and guest,

Oh, this is very embarassing. My mind was thinking of Line Dancing, and my fingers was doing the Lion Dance.

    Join you one day.

  5. Can anyone inform me where the venue for Line Dancing is? As I normally do the social dance, would it be easier to master the techniques of line dancing?

    Appreciate your comments please. Thanks!

  6. Dear Sadliu and Onlysue,

Practically all CCs conduct line-dancing classes from elementary to advance level.

SHC line dancers congregate at 2 venues that I know of :

    1) Sat. public dancing at Far East Square, China St. from 7 to 10.30pm

    2) Wed. Practice sessions at rooftop of Blk.146A Toa Payoh (opp. HDB Hub) from 7.15pm onwards.

At the moment, SHC line dancers are working hard at these 2 venues in preparation to perform for the SHC Annual D&D on 24 Mar.

Make yourway to any of these venues and you will meet the SHC line dancers.

    In general:
It is easier for line dancers to pick up social dance than for social dancers to pick up line dancing. The reason : line dance steps incorporate steps from other forms of dancing such as cha cha, sambal, rumba, latin, broadway, jazz, waltz, etc. Line dance step comprises a set of 8 counts versus 4 in other forms of dancing. A simple line dance ususally have a minimum of 32 counts.

How fast one picks up line dancing depend very much on the individual. Some are ‘natural’ dancers, some work hard to achieve, some just go with the flow. Whatever the case might be, one thing for sure – line dancers will keep their body and mind healthy because it is not just physical exercise, but brain work as well.

    Caution :
Some line dancers stressed themselves out by trying too hard to “master” every dance. In the end, they get ‘burned out’. One should try one’s best within one’s limit so that one can enjoy the music as well as the pleasure of dancing.
