March BT Reserve Brisk Walk

Dear SHC members
Gong Xi, Gong Xi Fa Cai.
March is around the corner and we will resume our monthly walk.
Date: 10th March  2007 (Saturday)
Place: Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
Start Time: We start the walk at 4.30pm.  No delay as we have to be out before it gets dark.
Meeting point: Visitor Centre, Hindhede Drive
Getting there: By bus. 67, 75, 170, 171, 173, 184, 852, 961.  Alight at Upper Bukit Timah Rd, opposite Bukit Timah Shopping Centre (after Beauty World Centre/Plaza).  Donot cross the overhead pedestrian bridge to Bukit Timah Shopping Centre.  Instead walk towards Courts (follow the direction of traffic) and cross at Courts to Hindhede Rd.  "Raintree Condo" under construction just at the entrance of Hindhede Rd.   From Hindhede Rd, turn  into Hindhede Drive and you will see Visitor Centre. 10-15 min walk.

By Car.  Fr city to Woodlands.  Turn right at pedestrian bridge nr Courts along Upper Bukit Timah Rd and into Hindhede Rd/Drive.  Parking Free.   Parking available at Beauty World which has an overhead pedestrian crossing leading directly out of the carpark.

The Walk:  Early birds can view the exhibits at the Visitor Centre before the Walk.  We can take the hard road trail or the South View Path trail into the foliage to reach the summit.  Part of the path is closed because of landslide in December.  You may have to climb more than 150 steps to the Summit.  Total time taken: 1 to 2  hr.   For those who cannot take slopes/climbs,  pl consult your family Doctor for advice.  For your info  :                                                                           840 flowering plants and over 500 species of animals.  Donot feed the monkeys.  Whichever trails, we take, the place is very shady.  As usual, bring umbrellas/ponchos in case rain, water bottle.                                                                                                                                                                        Dinner:   Available at the shophouses opposite Courts (the other side of Courts).
Additional Points: We need the walk to shed off extra kg accumulated during the lunar New Year.  An opportunity for those who have registered for the D&D in March to meet and cultivate friendship to brace up for the occasion.  For first timers who wish to join the walk and need more info, leave a comment here, and I shall reply you.  Hope to see you all.    Veronica Wong

  2. Really Kenneth then next time got big makan party, dont attend, just think you are eating all those yummy food. Btw I really enjoy reading the postings cos you guys are really funny :D

  3. Hey!

I missed the walk too… had a wedding to attend. So sorry and disappointed. Maybe the next one in April.

You know, they say that if you imagine (I don’t know about dreaming of it) that you are walking or excercising, it’s the same as if you’re doing the actual activity. So the next time I can’t attend, I’ll be thinking about it!

  4. Sorry I missed the Walk. Really wanted to be there to get to know you guys before the D&D. Thought I’d take a nap before setting off but went into deep slumber instead. Woke up at the same time as you would have finished your walk. Well, will have to try to do something about this bad habit. See you all soon. Take care
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline

  5. No lah, Kenneth, the groom needs somebody to walk him down the aisle…his dad’ll be too busy walking down the same aisle next to him, so as friend, die die also must help.

Catherine, you no good leh. The last time you hit me with “arachnophobia” (must be smthg good hor?), now, you say I am superfluous, cruelly cutting me off all chances to heart’s hut.

If the weather continues with its pattern, do pls be prepared for late afternoon showers. And pls also note, if a drink stall appears or an ice cream peddler shows up along the way, he’s likely a hor-hia-ti out for some early fun ahead of the 7th moon………….

  6. Yes Yew Kwong , if that happens then we will deinitely need some chivalrous SHC members to literally rescue the damsels. But now there will be no fear of that happening as the superfluous Tim will not be there to make us laugh till we drop right? :)

Tim – thats good rhyming in your piece. Are you some kind of a writer? Sorry just kaypohing!

  7. Hahaha! Terence

You didn’t understand Ah Liu until just recently? He can surely pen… just read his disclaimer above.

Tim is too busy to join us walkists because he is going to officiate a wedding ceremony. I better leave this post before Terence puts an end to it!

  8. Terence,

Usually i write for a fee. Here, I do it for free if it brings glee.

My ways and words are easy to comprehend only if a man carries more than mere looks of a man.

And do I need to show a face when all along I hv been showering grace?

I do enjoy the pen but wont make the mistake of calling it pants and then put thru my legs to walk.

Tho you might not drink my cup of tea, it’s alright bcos see isnt tea.

    Tim Liu

  9. Tim,

Slowly, I am beginning to find your ways and words easier to comprehend. And, you need to show your face soon. You probably pen better with words and walk with your legs.

    See u soon. Terence Seah

  10. “By this Declaration of Intent, I Tim Liu presently residing at xxxx and of full age hereby solemnly and irrevocably Declare that I shall not join, undertake any involvement or role at, or otherwise be a part of, the Walk at Bt Timah reserve to be held on 10 March 2007, occasioned by the holy matrimony of abc, and accordingly I shall not be held to indemnify or be liable whatsoever for any loss, damage, injury to person or property due to or arising from the Walk or caused to the walkists.”

Yes, a mouthful when “Butties (my favourite term for buddies), sorry cant join bcos friend mau kahwin leh but do pls enjoy, take care of each other at the walk hor” will do.

Some folks like things serious so perhaps Tim Liu (he anytime prefers Kenneth’s Ah Liu which actually sounds better) will show this other side of him in SHC forum henceforth.

  11. Catherine’s suggestion is gd but I have another worry 4 u guys. His humourous sense is so ticklish that it may get all of u “Slip Over The Floor” grabbing 4 rocks hor. :)

  12. Yes Tim do join us and let us meet the face behind the humorous penmanship. Besides rescuing damsels in distress (be it arachnophobia or other….) you can inject some humour during the walk?

  13. Tks Veron, will try to join you all. Lau Gow’s primate butties who left sui nien dong (water-veiled cave)for bt timah reserve under the foreign talent scheme, hv been told to take care of every walkist. Sure, they love popcorns, observe celibacy so very safe.

MJ has since kept his walk to within his home gdn. He still loves butterflies…nicely framed up ones. Dead butterflies better than dead moon, anytime.

  14. Thankyou for all the responses. See you there, rain or shine.
    Dear Tim
We appreciate your concern and advice. Why don’t you join the walk and a chance to be the lau hero to rescue a damsel in distress.
Crickets crawling all over you is better than a ham sup ma lau chasing after you.
I heard and it is true, the macaques snatched edible stuff from your hands. Can you imagine a troop descending on you.
So, ladies and gentlemen, keep your popcorn in your haversack otherwise you make a good picture for the Singapore STOMP page.
Also my advice to your butty Moon J that he should try his luck for butterflies at Botanic gardens rather than Bukit Timah Reserves.
    My 2-cts worth of comments.
    Cheers!
    vw

  15. Altho the Bt Timah trach is well-beaten, it’s no less a scenic track where you can hv crickets dropping from trees and jumping all over you. Squeamish? No, if we accept them as friends (some are our silverhairs equivalent) and that we’re visitors of their habitat.

Years ago, my butty Moon J chased a butterfly & fell. He was clinging to some tree roots for dear life when he was rescued under bright moonlight (dont they say our names matter?). He was an old-hand at the reserve so pls be careful esp when it has been raining lately and is wet & slippery.

    Enjoy !
