  2. Hi Joe, I used to get 3-4kg baramundi at Pulau Ubin off the 2nd wooden bridge during the highest point of the neap tide. I have tried big game tuna fishing in Mauritius and bonitos off Phuket. Last month, my Aussie friends got some baramundi from Bedok jetty. Here in Perth, we fish near the coast for herring, sotong, skippy, tailor and big ikan pasir. We make our own kropok, fish cakes and salted fish.

  3. Hi Mary Lee

I am very keen to go fishing in Perth.
Please let me have details. I have a friend in Perth name Moses Teo. Do You know him?
    Many Thanks.
    Joseph Tan.
PS Moses has moved to Melbourne.

  4. Hello Joseph. Used to go fishing every weekend with my late husband till he passed on more than 3 years ago. I love to fish but a pity he does all the tying of the hooks and I never learned how to do it. We used to fish at Lorong Halus, the Bedok Jetty and Ponggol. I only went out in a boat to fish at Permangil. Caught lots of Mackerel. Cooked Teochew fish porridge with them. So yummy :) If you have anything planned for fishing, pls write to me at Caroline.Gee@aar.com.au If we can get a group of people, we can start off by fishing from the shore and jetty. If we enjoy it, then we can be more ambitious and arrange for deep sea fishing. How’s that? Sorry if I sound too assuming. Just suggesting only :D
    Warmest regards

  5. I was a fish. I was hungry. I saw food. I snapped at it but gosh, smthg hooked on to my gullet and it was painful. The more I struggled to free myself the firmer the hold and the pain was excruciating. I passed off and when I came to………..I was at KK Hospital.

Since then I reminded myself not to snap at anythg without first knowing whether there’s a string tied to it. Neither will I offer anyone – fish included – smthg to which I tie a string.

  6. Hello Tim. The things you write are so “cheem”. I am very simple minded so I cannot understand what you are trying to say. Can say in simple terms without all the complicated jargons and twist and turns. This is a request only. Thanks :D
    Warmest Regards

  7. Hello Joseph. Acutally I wanted to ask if you could teach me to tie the hooks for fishing. If you think my suggestion of fishing from the jetty or from the shore is too amateurish, its ok. I can understand. I always walk to the Bedok Jetty to watch people fish and they seem so relaxed and carefree and I want to do the same except I am too pai seh to ask them if they want to teach me. Its funny if I carry my fishing stuffs and bait and then dare not approach people for help. So I want to know how to do it and go out confidently to fish. I am not fishing for sympathy or sending out the damsel in distress signal. Dont get me wrong. I truly wish to learn how to do it right. Thanks Joseph. :D

  8. Hello Carol, lest it be misunderstood, no I aint against fishing which is a healthy past-time and without the activity, we’d all be starved of fish which provides very good nutrition.

What I was saying is this : personally, I cant bear to watch a fish struggling in pain, and by extension of logic, warped as it may seem, wont want to see a string tied to anythg I give. Or take.

It’s quite simple to attach a line to a hook so long as we string thru the correct end of the hook. No doubt Joseph will be able to guide you on this.

And when the fishing is done, do call me. I hv no spasm watching a dead fish….honest.

  9. Thanks Tim. Now I can understand what you mean. I know what you mean too. I may be an angler but I not daring enough (or cannot bear) to hook a live prawn as bait. Also, I only reel in the catch but I also cannot bear to remove the fish from the hook and I dont do it. It freaks me out. I do not eat the that fish I personally catch. I give them away. The yummy Mackerel were caught by others. Maybe I should go walking only. But if I decide to fish, I will let you know to collect them from me. Dont worry, I will get someone to remove the hook first :D
    Warmest regards.

  10. Think I can empathise with why you like fishing….it’s never easy to let go of fond memories of those week-ends which you had looked forward to and enjoyed.

But like it or not, life carries on, we move on. We reach the edge, we turn the corner and we find a new path ahead with new friends waiting……

  11. Thanks Tim. Its really comforting to have new friends who are there for you. You are spot on. Yes, I really looked forward to the weekends with my picnic basket, deck chairs and fishing stuffs. Yes, I know. Life goes on. I am fortunate to have discovered “Silverhairsclub” by accident. I look forward to all the outings but most times something happens and I did not make it to them. However, I am glad to at least attended the D&D. I really enjoy the “friendly bickering” between you and Steven. At least now I can bring picnic basket to Botanic Gardens on 29 April. Warmest Regards :D
