Tea Party

Hi SHCians. I will be holding my tea party as promised. The venue is
open air so no air con so very hot lah. So I would like to have it from
6pm to 11pm. Ang Moh Carrot cakes, various types of cakes and kuehs,
pies and BBQ chicken wings will be served with coffee and tea. Wines and
Beers not on the menu so BYO. It is actually a tea party so chicken
wings (Caroline’s recipe) is a bonus  . As the place can only hold
limited no of people, so it will be 30-40  30 guests on a first come first
served basis (sorry about that)  Those attending who wish to take a dip
before the sip and eat can come earlier. There is an open air Jacuzzi
and a big swimming pool. All rounder and Andrew, if you are coming, you
could bring your "girlfriends" and we can have a mini sing a long – a
prelude to our coming singalong session.

  1. Well done, Dolly. By your spontaneous act to assist, you have truly exemplifies the spirit of SHC. Heeee, may the holy spirit be with you.

Ok, Carol, pls allot me a queue number, thanks.

  2. Heng ah,

Just found out I am in Q. No. 2 so seat must have confirmed rite? Caroline.

Now, I can take my time to write…

Actually hor, wanna sample all the food items and then, ask for secret recipes whether is “ang moh” or “deng lang” carrot cake. I am a food lover.

  3. Many thanks Dolly. You are a darling mua mua mua. But then hor, told you I am better with pots and pans than the computer, I will try to edit later to include guest list. If cannot, will cry out for help again :D

  4. Yes. As I read the comments, I write the name down first and with no of course. So those chope already no worries. Ha ha ha. Hello Kitty Q got fights but ours very civilised and orderly.

  5. Would love to meet Ron and your wife. Yes, its a pity I missed the SBG thing. So glad to know everyone enjoyed themselves. Looking forward to the tea party so we can continue enjoying ourselves. :D

  6. Hi Caroline

    Please register me. Thanks

But why the post is by Dolly, another ‘tea party”? If yes, please also register me, I like, I like!

  7. Hi Caroline,

Looking at your address – villa marina. It sounds so familiar. About 4 years ago (I think), I was part of a performance group from Emmanuel Assembly of God that sang carols at some homes there and also had a main performance at the poolside during the Christmas period. There was a children’s performance and I was part of the choir. Not sure if I remember the wrong name but it sure feels like Villa Marina. Let me know if you remember such an incident back then.
    Shirley Wong

  8. Guess not Shirley. Bought the apt two years ago. Use to live in Pasir Ris Park near the beach. Sold the house and moved here cos it was too big for our small family. So must be can sing lah if you are in the choir. How come you sing in the chidlren’s choir four years ago? Anyway, look forward to seeing you too.

  9. Hi Caroline

Thanks for hosting this night tea party and I shall consider myself invited! If you don’t see me, it means I have lost my way. Gosh, it is a long way back to the West for me. Guess I will have to leave by 9pm.

Should we all bring something and make this a potluck dinner?

    Joy

  10. Hi Joy. Hopefully, there may be someone living in the west who drives or you could pool a taxi back. That will be nice so you dont have to be Cinderella and go home so early. You all are inivted so dont bring anything. If after tea party still hungry (which should not happen) then outside my place got coffee shop that closes very late. People who bring gifts will not be admitted to the party. Unless its something you made and want to compete with me,or you need your wine or beer, then its ok. So just come and dont be so “Kek kee”.

  11. Hi Caroline

Thanks for including us in your list of “VIP” (Very Impressive Party), especially so many, as I have read, awaiting for your Carrot Cake, Ang Moh style, and your secret recipe of Fried Chicken Wings. Dolly, whom I have met at the recent SBG gathering, has been a great help to you in getting the POST in, in time for the T-Party. It is a small world, Caroline, that I have also just shifted from Paris Ris Park, namely from No.8, Paris Height, two years ago also to Katong area now at Cote D’Azur next to Parkway Parade. I just wonder, whether we were neighbour at that time, HaHa. Anyway, my wife and I will C U at your T-Party.

    REGARDS
    RONLAI

  12. Hi Carol,

Please include me in your tea party. Let me know if you need help, can’t cook but can at least wash the dishes.

    Cheers !
    Ann Lim

  13. Hi Caroline

Can’t wait to taste all your specialties.
Pls include me & Molly Chua.
I can come early to help you with the cooking if you need help.

    See yah !

  14. Hi Caroline
May I invite myself to your tea party? I can come earlier to render whatever help you may need. Feeding 30 mouths is an enormous task.

  15. Howdy one note up on the Bee Gees, tea party from 6pm to 11pm, sounds you have been down under ?

Hopefully this time i get to taste English Carrot Cake this time and Chicken Wings (Buffalo Wings style or Thai ?)anyway can take any kind even Kentucky.

Yes will bring my gfs, one confirmed (very obedient), the other Linda (dance kaki) and onother, one note higher than you , Dee Ang ( your good friend , can you ask her to take a break from making money all the time ?).

Ok , have not forgotten your two songs, still looking for the words to ‘Love Portion no 9’, already found ‘What a Wonderful World’ and getting to like the song, maybe getting wiser now.

And if you do have a choice of your wine from down under, let me know.

Hey with so many good kakis around , 11 pm sounds like a curfew lah, maybe we may need to adjourn to somewhere else> Even Cinderella waits till the midnight hour, so how to pick the shoe ?

    Cheers,
    U know who lah

  16. Oh Caroline,
I was not in the children’s choir. They danced. I was in the adults’ choir group. Heehee better make that clear otherwise at the singing gathering, people might expect to hear a kid’s voice singing twinkle twinkle little star lol

  17. Since outside food isnt allowed, and many of us are wine drinkers, will bring with me my mom’s last bottle of rice wine for the nite.

Heeee, Ron, you so high already huh? Pasir ris park where got paris height but there was this old mariner ah goh who usd to run naked round the park? Want him to also run at villa marina thus adding that little more gaga?

  18. Hi Caroline,

This is very nice gesture on your part to hold a party at your place. I hope that following your step, we will have many more of such gatherings and member initiatives.

Your Tea party is exactly what the SilverHairsClub hope to achieve. The opportunity and platform to meet new and more friends, as we go through our SilverHairs years.

And, to the many new friends that you will meet. I shall be in Bangkok at that time, and enjoy yourselvess, and hard work.

    Terence Seah

  19. Hi Caroline,

With so many of my kaki coming to your T-Party, do not want to be left out. Would love to come if I am not late for a place in line. Thanks.

    Ronald Lee

  20. hehehe Oi Cheng,
Though I cant attend this tea party which I know that I am going to miss lots of fun lor… but I really like your phrase of “Feeding 30 mouths is an enormous task” give me the impression that Caroline will line up the 30 of you in str line n 1 command (open mouth) and she will stuff 1 carrot cake in each of every one’s mouth, subsequently command follows until all of you try her specialities lor… wow hahaha

  21. Hi everyone. Thanks for the warm responses. Hi Ron. I was from 21 Pasir Ris Way so we were in the same neighbourhood. From the main road, it is Heights, Terrace, Ave then Way correct? It is a lovely neighbourhood where we have our BBQ pit in our garden. Oh I love Cot d’ Zur cos Parkway Parade is my fave shopping centre but I dont have the budget. Dolly and Tim, you both are sooo funny. Rice wine??? at tea party ???Dont worry. we used to have parties where I have to feed more than 30 guests. Just come and enjoy. Its a pity you cant join us Terence. Maybe another time. And Guest sorry hor no roller blading cos a lot of grass and stones but you can entertain us with music and practice Love Potion No 9 so I can sing and you strum your guitar ok? So far I have 18 guests already. Looking forward to the tea party too :D

  22. It was said that “….line up the 30…in str line n 1 command (open mouth)….will stuff 1 carrot cake in each of every one’s mouth….hahaha “.

With yr mouth so full of carrots & cakes, you still can hahaha, Dolly, you very the steady, mann! Seriously, where did you get that training?

Guys, while the gals stay behind to wash-up, what shall we do? Correct, busy shaking our legs since this is what most of our mothers taught us from young but then hor, after they’re done, the ah sia kia in us may want to turn gallant knights & send them home……….home hor, not to any powerhouses or power stations.

At the rate butties are signing up, the quota will be filled by day’s end. maybe, i can start selling my place on the internet market liao……..$100, ai mai?

  23. BTW, I dont drink wine or beer so pls dont buy my share huh cos if I drink, I will talk nonsense. :)Thanks. I love my teh see or kopi oh.

  24. Hi Caroline

Cant join this round. Will miss your delicious food. Wish you can post some photo of your signature carrot cake on the website for me to taste it virtually.

    Have a nice time.

  25. B4 mother said bye bye, she reminded me that I must hv rice for dinner and so had left me many rice wine with more rice than wine in those bottles. So no rice in the menu, no problem, i still will hv my rice.

For you, Caroline, I’ll do anythg. So if teh does not see, I’ll make teh see, and if kopi is anythg but oh, I’ll hv enough hair dye to make it so oh that you start saying oh oh oh.

(Jokes aside, for your consummate hospitality, it’ll be my pleasure to hop to the kopitiam & buy yr teh see & kopi orr….pls just let me know thru a whisper, a snarl or a la Dolly style, a command while the mouth is filled with carrot cakes & roller skates).

  26. Wished more are like you Kwong who will accept virtual satisfaction. tim ah liu can then blaze the corporate acquisition trail by posting euros, USD, sterling pounds, lira, rupiah…….to buy up microsoft & turn it into microhard, timmustsit holdings into tombmasak nothing. Then and only then can we rid of robbery & say that we are truly in a cashless society.

Ok, Kwong you pls start the ball rolling. I’ll be sending you orange pics of encik yusoff(how many you want)in exchange for your house.

  27. Hi Caroline,

Wondering if i am late to register for a place for the tee party? hehe

If there is, i wanna to be the last one…
Hokkien saying, “hor leow tim tuay” and I can also pow ka leow, hehe… cheers

  28. Tim ah liu ah,

You really cannot “tim” (sit still and don’t talk). You really wake me up from my heavy lunch and my colleague is watching me suspiciously why am I laughing to myself after woke up from my stone nap. (in front of my PC).

    “Fook Jaw Li”

  29. Aiyoh Tim. I laughed until my jaw locked already. If you are “png tung”, I can make fried rice for you. No problem at all. Teh see kopi oh I supply so no need to buy. Green tea, Chinese tea, Chamomile tea also got. Benson, definitely got place for you. Hopefully got balance then can da pao. place choped for you already. As for Yew Kwong, another time then. Enjoy what you will be doing. BTW, when you come huh Tim, pls show how you stuff roller blades into the mouth??? Must collate and print out all your comments and when I am feeling down, take out and read HA HA : D

  30. Benson, welcome back. So where hv you been with the gu leong chai? No come, no come; 1 come 2 come. Come or no come, you cannot come come chang, ok?

Huh, so yr Hokkien saying pits tim ah liu to the bottom & “tim tuay” lah? Bar-gay-lor you, calling you my butty somemore. Ok, come early that day and we see who tim tuay in Caroline’s condo pool……..I’ll tie you with Patrick, herh !

See, gu leong chai is so sweet…….worth tim ah liu’s carrying her at the D&D (and suffered a slip disc). But why find an ah Fook to be yr bf even tho he carries the surname Li? He’s still an ah fook hor.

  31. Caroline

Is it OK if myself, Veronica and Jenny come along. Let us know if u need help.. like drying up the pots and pans/plates (since someone is washing them).

    Thks
    Eliza

  32. Hi Caroline

Thanks for hosting the tea party and your kind invitation. Interested to meet you and hope you can include my name though it is a little late. May be I will have to stand outside. Ha… Ha…

  33. Dear Caroline

Looks like I am a lttle too late for a seat. Can take in 1 more guest? Hope I will not be rejected, at least I can stand if there is no seat for me. Ha….Ha….

  34. Hi Lina, Linda and Jade. No you are not too late. After Jade, there are 3 more places left only. Places chope for you all. Only thing is Dolly has to put your names in the register for me because she posted it for me. C you all at the tea party :D

  35. Hi Caroline

It seems your memory serves you correctly, the sequence of the roads in Pasir Ris Park. At that time I had the intention of looking at a house No 23 to shift over, as my friend told me the house was vacant, but not for sale, don’t know whether in Way or Avenue. Understand the owner of house No 23 wanted to keep the house for “luck” only, they were staying in another place. I do not know whether you believe in “Fungshui” leh. C U on 26th dont know that you have to work till 6.oopm and reaching home by 6.30pm., never mind we come early and help you lay the table lah, otherwise the Teh-c or Kopi-o will get cold.
    Cheers……ronlai & Alice

  36. Hi Tim

No more Height leh, it was once upon a time, already gone downunder, not Aust or NZ lor, but very very near to ECP and very very near also to the sea lah, where we can still “punching ikans” at Bedok jetty. C U at Caroline’s T-Party, where we can continue our talk talk from SBG to Ville Marina leh.

    cheers Ronlai

  37. Dear Caroline

I did not check earlier that Ronald Wi had included me in the registration. Please give my seat to the next one in the que. Thanks so much, Caroline. See you in the tea party.

  38. Hi Caroline

When I checked your tea party “Confirmed guess list”, I saw my name and the follows:

    1. Rene Leong
    2. Andrew Yeung
    3. Catherine Yeo
    4. Peggy
    5. Molly Chua
    6. Oi Cheng
    7. Ronald Wi
    8. Linda
    9. Dee Ang
    10. Ronald Lee
    11. Jade Phua

Why these name so familiar to me? They are nearly “all” the members of our line dance group. I must complainted (Ronald, the complaint excluded you and me) that I never saw so many of our member appeared in our Wednesday practice session before!!!! Why?????

Hey, Caroline, can we have a “jam” session in your tea party. Hey, brothers and sisters, How???

  39. Hi everyong. We have only one last seat after Robert & Kristy. Glad you both could come as I see you are very active in SHC. So Ron, we are not so Silverhair after. Can still remember road names etc. Yes, the no 23 was vacant and many people wanted to buy but the owners wont sell and it was left vacant until it is so dilapidated and erie. Otherwise you would have been my neighbour and smelling my bbq chicken wings all the time because we have these parties twice a month. Of course you would have been invited lah :D. Yes, Andrew bring your “girlfriend” and we can have a jam session and better be good and not too loud or we get tomatoes and eggs added to our tea party spread. I love chit chats about everything only thing is the children are grown up and they have their own activities so it will be nice to have friends to have teh C and tit a tat. Oh dont worry. I only work Mon-Fri so I have all the whole of saturday to prepare my stuffs. Also, some of the food have to be done the day before so dont worry lah. Plenty food to eat. So those who want to flaunt their muscles and guitar shapes can come early but let me know so that I will be expecting you and show where you can frolick in the water while I prepare your food. There is a warm open air jacuzzi and its nice for lazing around. When I get the 30 guests, I will tell you how to come to my place (for those who dont know where on earth is Villa Marina). Its very convenient by car or bus. MRT no good here ok? I am so excited and have been planned my menu and my preparation schedule. Have a great weekend.
    Warmest Regards :D

  40. Andrew,

The music man is available for the night, if the host (Caroline) gives the “green light”.

Hey LDP group! Get ready you boogie legs.

    Cheers,
    Ronald Lee

  41. Hey Andrew
    You wanna dance right ?
As promised, I will bring some of my line dance CD for you/Ronald. Andrew, you can then entertain or teach us some steps. How’s that ?

Hi Caroline, I will bring coffee powder to make kopi-O.

  42. Hi Caroline

I mean a line dance “jam” since nearly all the members of the line dance group is here. Sorry to make you misunderstanding.

Talk about my girlfriend, she is so shy……. and I don’t want Tim see her, ha ha…

  43. Hi Suzhang

Sure wanna to dance, but cannot teach as I still a student. Don’t worry, our lady Oi Cheng is there. She can teach us the steps of many beautiful line dances. But be careful, she can be quite tough sometime, hor.

  44. Hi Suzhang,

Not like preparing Kopi-O leh, it is not easy to make music on the spot. Can you have the CDs passed to me thru Molly, prior?

    Thanks.

  45. Hey Andrew
You are so humble lah…. I know you can teach too. With Oil Cheng as your “si fu” she sure need to be tough so you guys can learn fast mah.
You shld not “ah law” with her so often least she kick you out of her class…. ha..ha..

  46. Hi Caroline,
Guest list completed and closed for registration liao…

Andrew, sure anot, Oi Cheng tough meh… not I know of le.. are u sure we are talking abt same Oi Cheng har??

Yeap, Clara, you just make it for 30pax benchmark… cheers…

  47. Thanks for being so understanding Sok Pheng or Pheng Sok (sorry have not met you). You will be the first on the waiting list. Hello hello, line dancing on grass only because its a BBQ pit lah so no dance floor ok. And you must bring your own CD player huh because only got charcoal heat and no electricity hor.

    Now for the direction.
    For Drivers
If you are coming from bedok or changi, you turn onto Upper East Coast Road and go towards city direction. After you pass the Siglap CC and Siglap Post office on your left, look out for the open space on your left and the first road you turn left and drive to the end and after you pass the barricade, drive down and turn left and park around Tower 5,6 or 7 or anywhere near Tower 5.
For thos coming from city direction, go on to East Coast Road and drive to Changi direction. You will pass Siglap Centre on your left and all the yuppy eateries and look out on the right thee is a Shell Petrol Station put out your right signal and the first lane immediately after the Station turn right. For those using ECP, turn off Siglap Road and keep to the left lane until you get to the traffic light. Go straight after traffic light and turn onto the first lane on the right and drive straight to the end and there will be a round a bout. Turn the first left entrance and drive straight to nearly the end and park around Towers 5, 6 or 7 or anywhere near Tower 5.
Use either the stairs or lift at Tower 5 and go to level 1 and walk out and you will see BBQ Pit No 3.
For those taking bus from Bedok or the city, there is aiyoh, I not sure. I know numbers 10,12, 13 and 14 come here. From Bedok, you drop at the bus stop after the Siglap CC and Siglap Post Office in front of the big open space on the left. From City, you drop first bus stop after Siglap Centre opposite the Shell Petrol Station which is on the right. There is 196 n 197 but you alight at bus stops near Victoria Secondary School. Better ask bus driver. I hope you find your way to my place.
    :D

  48. Sorry chope nite. Those driving from bedok everything correct except after barricade, drive down turn right – mabok already :D

  49. Hi Dolly,

I think we are talking the same one. Yes, must confess, Oi Cheng is a very nice lady. But sometime she treat me quite tough. Why, Oi Cheng?

  50. Hi Caroline

1st come 1st served, if last come whether will be served or not. Looks like I miss the fun as I did not read for 2 days only.
Can I be on the waiting list ?

    Annie Loh

  51. Many thanks to Dolly for helping me with the posting and registration. I would be lost without your help. OK Annie, you will be put q no 2 on waiting list if anyone backs out cos Pheng Sok is q no 1. C u all on 16 May for the retirement plans gathering.

  52. Wow wow, Caroline, urs tea party vry lag gu leh… Already saw a couple of ppls on their reserved list. But hor, those ppls sure will be disappted 1 cos I can bet that nobody is going to cancel their reservation at all lor… Dolly

  53. I also think so lor. So you must tell them how my carrot cake is lor so they wont want to miss the tea party lor ha ha ha. You are so funny lor. Counting the days to the tea party :D

  54. Those already in invited guest lists, boy.. all of you are reli lucky to chope a plc liao.. but hor… I am still the very lucky 1 as I got to taste the ‘ang mo’ carrot cake and kueh ko sui b4 all of you.. hahhaha.. These 2 signature products of Caroline’s simply live up their name and were fantastic and delicious that my family enjoyed so much dat they were finished in less than 15mins..yummy yummy yum yum… my sis commented that she reli put in lots of ‘hao liao’ for these 2 le..

Don’t envious me hor, just be patient and start counting of the # of days left b4 this tea party lor… Let me c… 20days left to go…

So, all of u, unless vry vry impt event dat force u to cancel this date, my advice to all of you “die die also must go” if not, you will definitely regret 1.

For those who missed “chope plc registration” and/or in the waiting queue 1, I reli hate to disappt you but hor.. I can only say your chance is almost zero lor as I am vry vry sure no one is going is cancel this.

Next time, make sure that die die also must log into Silverhairsclub.com at least once everyday to make sure you can wont miss this kind of “kangtao” lor…

But I am sure all of us will definitely hv a chance to taste Caroline’s goodies next time, maybe another potluck gathering lor?? but don’t know – akan datang lor..

  55. Oh Dolly. If ever I want to open cake shop (which is almost zero possibility cos its a passion for baking for pleasure), must employ you as sales manager lah. Those who did not chope a place, never mind. I am sure we will have another opportunity where I will make my Ang Moh Carrot Cake and other kuehs :D

  56. Wondering why Dolly gets to eat the cake first? Since she is so helpful and she cant make it to the tea party, she deserves to have the cake first agree? So one good deed deserves another. She did not expect it or ask for it but I just felt it would be nice to surprise her. Cheers!

  57. Hi Caroline

I have been to doctor at times for the Q Number and recently went to Malay barber also have to take Q Number, and worst of all if you go to the Ten-Dollar barber not only you have to take Q Number but have to pay $10 first at the slot machine, but now having heard from you that you are also issuing Q Numbers, aiyoh, luckily I have registered early leh. Tim will be a happy man now lah, offering $100 for any takers, as you have two on de waiting list, lor, hehehe….
Dolly must have a great taste bud of your Ang Moh carrot cake and now kueh ko sui plus fabulous Chicken Wings, cannot wait to taste all these leh haha. I dont blame her for counting days…..we may have to count sheep…
    also.
    CHEERS till that day.

    Ronlai

  58. Hi Caroline
since got lak gu and lau how sway for the kueh kueh, we appreciate if you can post on this website the recipe for your ang mo carrot cake.
Never mind trade secret, can share share with
    SHC pl. OK?
    cheers
    veron

  59. Hi Caroline

I support Veron Wong’s suggestion to have the recipe post on website for those who do not have the chance to attend. We can try it out and let you master taste on the next occassion when we meet you. Do you agree ?

  60. Good morn to all. Yes Ron. In Singapore everything you want must have queue otherwise chaos. Even queue also got fights. Remember the MacDonalds Hello Kitty thing. What to do. Must issue Q numbers then people will be kan cheong otherwise last min then people reply then how to plan menu and schedule right? I am counting the days to the party too. Though I may not have met some of you, but the way you all right, I am sure you all are nice people to meet. As for the recipe, my relatives and friends have asked me for them but I really have to apologise because I am collating all my recipes (all of them I experimented with the basic recipes and came up with them after many failed attempts to make it to my standard and they are all tried and tested) because I am thinking of writing a recipe book. I am also thinking of writing a cook book for students who are going overseas to study – all recipes will be easy to follow, healthy and good to eat types. All ingredients very precise. I wrote a little booklet for my daughters when they went overseas for their studies and it came in handy. So for now, there will definitely be another occasion where I could bring my carrot cake for you all to taste. I hope you all can understand. My apologies :)
    Warmest Regards

  61. Hahaha, Ron, if we were to resume that absorbing talk we had at SBG, we’ll probably still be talking at 3 a.m. when most of us are rubbing our tummies, preparing to make our own morning cakes. Maybe, for a change, i’ll engage Alice to a talk so that when she’s not looking, you can hop to the gals to talk the small talk…heee, we sure need a bit more space to spice up our lives, whether silverhaired or unkempt hair.

Andrew, warn you first…………shy or not shy, I sure go tackle yr girlfriend, even tho she cant walk, I will still carry her home (my home, not yr home hor). With so many line dancers dancing woth you on bbq pit 3, there’ll definitely be very big jam up there so that by the time you clear the jam with butter, I am done and ready to send her back to you.

(Pheng Sok, somebody said you look like tim ah liu & that makes you very lucky. So, on 26/5, pls come dressed like tim…..white pagoda (china brand) singlets showing the luxuriant growth in the armpits – tim’s unmistakable trademark, striped pyjama-cut-half shorts and then wait outside )sp you dont hv to wait on the waiting list). Once I come out you can go in. This is a our secret arrangement so dont tell anybody hor).

TIMMY my boy ur abv suggestion was a brilliant one. We shall try it out another time when there’s a need K? However, I’m quite concern 4u cos now I realise why u called me mummy d other nite just cos someone told u how much u look like me. Be careful if this is ur trend or u r missing ur mom, u may land up one day with aQ of tottering Old ladies following u around town or at ur doorstep calling u My Boy My Son.
Btw Mother’s Day is just a few days away, so u know what 2do hor? U asked 4it.

  63. Pheng Sok. Happy to have you as a guest. Just come and enjoy. No need to cook lah. Next time you host, I go and eat, beat my buttocks and go home he! he!

  64. Ah Sok sor, you very no good leh, Caroline was so kind as to open her backdoor for you (so you dont hv to wear pyjama shorts & singlets to look like ah tim), you still gee at her…………..hee, you geela huh?

Seriously, you too cook very well and I particularly enjoyed yr cup cakes at SBG tho understandably they came in very small cups but like they say, anythg more than a mouthful goes to waste so it’s alright.

Yes, most of us only got to see her bubbly personality which you see for free but for a small fee, I’ll ask her to blow bubbles for you to see. Ai mai?

Correction. There was no shadow when I called you mommy which means it was at noon under the bright sun. Otherwise people may be wondering what was I doing with you at nite which kills off all my chances.

Btw, Mother’s Day is not just a few days but 1 year and a few days away bcos that’s what yr queue number says. This year, my mommies from the clubs are all waiting……….heee, they’ll come in hotpants, not cut-half pyjama shorts.

  65. Hello to all who are attending the tea party on 26 May 07, Saturday. One more week to go.
Whether you are driving, coming by bus, mrt or taxi or number 11 (walking), just tell the security guard that you are going to BBQ Pit no 3. I will inform them in advance about my guests coming over.
VERY IMPORTANT: All guests are not allowed to bring food or gifts. Only the beers or wine you want to drink.
So rain or shine, the party is on! Looking forward to seeing you all.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  66. Hi Everyone….
5 days left to Caroline’s tea party liao… I was at cycling last Sat and most of them are still asking why I so lucky to get to taste the ang mo carrot cake leh… I was tellg them the cake was reli fantastic not forgetting the kueh koy swee also. For those already in the invited list – good for you.. enjoy the food and company lor..

For those who just missed the benchmark, lesson learnt – make sure that you make it a point to go into SHC website every now and then next time in order not to miss good deal hor… lol…

  67. Yes, you were muttering ang moh ang moh non stop as you cycled in that 2 hours…thot you fatt farr tin but now know, it was “ang moh carrot cake” altho you kepot very soft on the last 2 words.

And how can you say “…not to miss good deal hor… lol”. Surely we go there to savour Caroline’s great food, not lei orr lieu……for that, we shd do it at home, along the way or somewhere else.

  68. Wah Dolly, you are really good at advertising lah. Like buay ko yok like that. Only thing you go cyling did not bring the gong. Ha ha. Yes, its good check the website every now and then to make sure we know what is happening in SHC.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  69. Hi Caroline,

I am unable to atttend your tea party this Saturday. Sorry to miss this “great deal”

    Have a nice day.

    Regards,
    Melissa Khng

  70. Hi Melissa. Sorry that you cant come to the tea party. I have invited Ann to come. Maybe another time then. Thanks for informing me. Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  71. Hi Dolly, Caroline,

Eileen Lee’s daughter-in-law just gave birth to a baby. She wants to come, but is too excited with the new born.

She apologises she cannot come, and hope someone can take her place. She apologises as she has no computer access for now.

Terence Seah (on behalf of Eileen).

  72. Hahaha, I never failed to have fun with you, you so cute one leh. Like in yr #92 posting, you said “……daughter-in-law just gave birth to a baby.”

So how else can it be, giving birth to a teenager or a silverhaired?

Jokes aside, most of us are guilty of stating the obvious, like asking acquaintances “jiak ba buay?” when they’re happily strolling out of a food court. Or “how are you” when in truth we hv neither the time nor patience to hear him pour his grievances.

But then, what else do we have to say?

  73. Hi Terence. Thanks for writing to inform me. Very happy for Eileen on becoming a Grandma. I believe she hasn’t got enough of her Grandaugher yet. Congratulations Eileen. I wish you all well :D. Now with less people coming, maybe Tim can da bao already lah! ha! ha!
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  74. tim ah liu has been on a hunger strike in protest of the closure of a university within its frts semester which shd hv scored us another world first, albeit infamously. So he’ll come with a ravenous appetite and eat everythg up including yr guests, heee.

As I normally combine hunger strike with bath strike, will probably come a bit earlier to bathe with mermaids in yr nice condo pool, can?

  75. Hi Steven. You are welcome to take Eileen’s place on Saturday. See you then. Remember the rules hor. No outside food. Only your own beer and wine. See you.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  76. Hi Caroline,

Thanks for your kind invitation and reply.

    Steven Chan
p/s I will swim and jacuzzi before heading to the BBQ pit. Any SHCian would lke to join me ?

  77. Dont you worry Tim. Whatever your excuse to eat a lot. Will have enough for you to eat. Also, want to swim with merman or mermaid, also can. Maybe Steven and Andrew can join you. If the ladies want to play splash water with the “young” men, also can. Ha ha. What a sight it will be. Its a really nice pool so come and enjoy it. See you all soon.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  78. Haha, Caroline, this time you jialat liao, I’ll hold you by yr words and since I need give no excuse, will follow you home to eat & eat till you cant sleep.

I am giving a 2nd thot to swimming now that a lighthouse may be standing in the middle of the pool.

  79. Hi Caroline,

I find your comments very JOVIAL.

No wonder they say “Laughter is the Best Medicine” and in India, they have are many “Laughing Clubs.”

It is time Singapore too , being a “KIASU, KIASI and a KIABOH society too should have one.

    Steven Chan

  80. Hi Tim,

    V. Good. Then, I will have more room to swim the entire pool. Ha! ha! .

    Btw,I am a swimmer NOT a learner.

Therefore, there is nO lighthouse to block your path in the middle of the pool.

Do NOT judge a book by its cover.

    Steven Chan

  81. Its hilarious. Thanks Steven. You are most welcome to swim and do the jacuzzi thing before food, maybe you can persuade Tim to join you, now that he has decided to back because he is afraid of the “lighthouse” towering over him. Maybe Tim is afraid to show off his bod in case yours better than his???? My fridge is very well stocked lah!

  82. Hi Caroline,

Persuade Tim to swim ? No way.

I believe swimming is a fun and enjoyable healthy exercise for our body and mind .

And that one needs to have the motivation and something not to be forced upon.

    Steven Chan

  83. Hi Caroline

Count-down has begin…..to the song of “Begin the Beguine”, around 24hrs. It appears you are gonna 2 have Olympic swimmers emerge from Ville Marina leh, B4 we gonna 2 have yr Ang Moh carrot cake, lah. Whether lighthouse or floating buoy or better the lifebuoy, the fun is yet to be.

Steven Chan, as you are saying de Laughing Club to be introduced in Spore, let me quote one instant here which I have had experienced. I was at a Talk recently, where a certain Indian lady gave a demonstration of laughing cum action, the audience followed her according. I find no thrill at all, making ourselves laugh with no purpose or aim, nor less stress.

    CHEERS, until then……

    Ronlai

  84. Yes Ron. You are getting as cheeky as Tim. Anyway, who needs a laughter Guru when we got so many at SilverHairs. Btw, while going through all the comments, I have been laughing non stop and I feel younger already lah Ha ha!
    Warmest Regards

  85. I attended a Toastmasters’ meeting once where a Laughter Trainer went through a short exercise on laughing with us. We had to make the sound of laughter from deep within our bellies. We laughed due to the ridiculousness of the situation. I cannot imagine anyone paying for such a course!

Is the world so devoid of fun and laughter that we have to force ourselves to make laughing sounds when nothing is funny? Sad…

Actually, Tim may soon be charging us for his entertainment here…

  86. Hi Caroline,

After enjoying half an hour of swimming I was served with delicious food in a beautiful garden, what I can say is Thank You Very Much.

  87. Dear Caroline,
Thank you sooo.. much for your effort and time put in hosting this session..Count myself lucky to be in .. A nice environment with the companionship of our shc friends, tasted ur delicious yummy homemade cookies and homecooked food ..We did have an enjoyable relaxing wonderful evening chatting, singing and dancing too.. Best wishes to u…in good health and also a success to ur writing of your cook book..
    clara..

  88. Hi Caroline,

Most of what I would like to say has already been mentioned by clara.

I loved your BBQ chicken wings, so tenderand succulent, nicely bbq without any char and well seasoned with your “Secret Recipe” sauce.

In one word, deliciousss much better than KFC,very oily and crusty.

And also your speciality “ANG MOH” carrot cake and the nice environment of your Mediterranean design “resort” condo and its beautifully designed swimming pools and jacuzzi esp at. night with its lightings on.

And the wonderful companionship of our SHCians who has enjoyed ourselves very much.

You took much of your time to prepare cookies and food and trouble to host this tea party just for us. Thanks once again.

    With Sincere Appreciation,
    Steven Chan

  89. Hi Caroline

What a lovely candle-light party we had, my wife and I thank you for all the trouble to make it an enjoyable evening in your beautiful surrounding, with all the greeneries around us make it so cosy.

The long-awaited, home speciality of yours de CARROT CAKE, Ang Moh of course, was superb beyond words, its exquisite taste and fine texture, unrivalled by any of which we had tasted. The Kueh Kou Siu, Kong Bak Pau and de list goes on, with a touch of BBQ Chicken Wings in the picture, wah lor, what more could be asked.

Singing under de moonlight, with music provided by Ronald Lee’s lap-top and Ronald Wie’s six-stringed guitar that built up de atmosphere of de evening. The nite was not complete until we had a bit of line dance, a touch of latin rumba and a classic display of Qi Qong by the energetic few, just for de digestion of our “makan makan”.

    CHEERS

    Ron & Alice Lai

  90. Caroline

Eating, chatting, dancing, singing, everything, just don’t know what to say, but thanks, thanks and thanks ……….

Cannot imagine you are such a good singer. Before last night, I think I’m the best in SHC, but now I become a seconder again, sigh!

  91. Hi Caroline,

Where are you coming from? top chef from some infamous fine dinning restaurant? Every dish is so well prepared and right down to the details in seasoning and preparation, I can quickly fish it out right from, especially the “kong-bak” for the “pau” and the fried rice. The chicken wings were so marvelous. I would say it is far better than Kenny Roger’s in terms of texture’s tenderness and juiciness. Every dish is a star by itself.

I think all of us who have attended really enjoyed the night with the fantastic ambiance garden, delicious good food and exciting companionship of our SHC’s friends.

What I like to say from my hearth is Thank You Very Much, Caroline.
(………and when is the next one, har? Some very good experience and discovery not to be missed)

    Cheers,
    Ronald Lee

  92. Lets add another feather to your cap, Caroline! You are not only a superb cook, you are such a charming and gracious hostess.

The much ‘talked’ about carrot cake lived up to its fame, not too sweet and sufficiently moist. In fact all the other foods (already mentioned by the others) were all so yuuuuuuuumy that I would like to reserve a place at your next tea party. (hint, hint haha)

Lastly a very big thank you for a wonderful time last night.

    Catherine

  93. Good morning everyone. Just woke up leh. Dont usually wake up so late cos my waking up time is 5.30am. Haven’t slept like a baby for a long time. The “exercise” did me good. Thanks Jade, Steven, Clara, Ron & Alice, Andrew and Ronald, for the compliments. I truly enjoyed myself very much too. Its my pleasure to make all the goodies for my friends at SHC. Also very happy to see everyone having a good time. Its an effort not wasted. Eh Ronald let me breath first lah! Its a sunny day today Yay! Have a nice day :D
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  94. Caroline….what a scrumptious feast, across the board from ang moh and local cakes to dishes, and all from your 2 hands. You really need to start a recipe book, as the taste of each dish is delicious.
The evening has been lovely as everyone present attested. Thanks, and how about a repeat performance. We can always validate other dishes that you are going to include in your book.

  95. Hi Catherine, thanks for your compliments. Glad that you travelled so far from the west to the east to attend my tea party. Happy to have you as guest. OK I know you want to chope a place for my next tea party lah. Will have to be a while yet. Not so young already so need a long rest Ha ha! Have a nice day.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  96. Dear Caroline

Even though I might be one of the last few,I still want to say “THANK YOU VERY MUCH” for a wonderful evening. It’s marvellous ! Everything was perfect !

For those who have missed this tea party, it’s a pity….we truly enjoyed all the sumptous food, the good company, the ambience in the garden, and a wonderful host, Caroline.

Terence – it’s a pity too you are not here. Now, don’t be jealous ! You will hv a chance next time – book early !:)p

All of us are looking forward to Caroline’s next tea party….. Oh poor Caroline – you can’t decline liao.

    Caroline, thanks again.

    Cheers,
    Susan

  97. Hi Caroline

Thanks for inviting us (including some who didn’t know who you were prior to the party, me guilty one) to your wonderful party last night that gave us the opportunity to finally sink our teeth and dentures into the carrot cake, chicken wings, potato pie and kueh kueh. Still salivating and drooling over my keyboard…

It was a night of good fellowship, better food and bestest massage from someone who somehow ended at East Shore Hospital but who finally found his way there. Heh heh, someone’s going to have to work hard at the villa while I am going to have a wonderful time…provided he doesn’t end up at Bintang or elsewhere…

  98. Thanks for a wonderful tea (hymm ) party and being such a wonderful ,entertaining and radiant host.

Wonder what a dinner party will be like but make sure i am in the guest list ok ? Terence, you better sent her your whole year schedule to her so you do not miss the next one.

Sorry could not bring myself as promised to deliver your favorite songs, Shirley and Benson can testify that i was busy spending time doing justice to the chicken wings, kong bak pau, cakes, carrot cake (one of my fav) and also marinated by your singing. So this means i get invited the next time right ?

I hope yesterday tea party has been everything you wanted it to be, i know from our end,for everyone of us it was.

You are surely someone special and i guess you heard the echoes of the ‘What a Wonderful World’ ,just the as it could only have been sung, ( don’t laugh, giggle and enjoy it.

I hope the companionship of our SHC members have brought you that cheer.

    Cheers
    Allrounder

  99. Hi Caroline

Vow, your tea party really wonderfully. After all those fantastic foods, our SHC special guest finally use his real name to face us. Thank you

  100. Hi Jie, Susan, Joy and Ronald Wi. Aiyoh so paiseh leh. Thanks for the compliment. Wah you all praise so much that my head become so big until cannot go through my apt door. Yes, Ronald, with everyone enjoying the food, the ambience, the singing the dancing and most importantly, the companionship, What a Wonderful Word it is. I can still feel the happiness when I woke up this morning. And yes Sue, must make sure Terence give me his schedule so that when the next round comes, he must not miss it. And Jie, we will see when will be a good time for lunch cos you give such a good reason to have one ha ha! As for Joy, its really alright because I did not recognise many of you too so we finally get to meet, but not necessarily remember hee hee. With all the fun and laughter….. I do not know what happened to the memory function. So the next time we meet, I hope I can put a name to your face. Anyway, it is a most memorable (sorry I contradict myself with what I said above just an excuse if I cannot remember your name) occasion. Silverhairs? We surely did not behave like one. Cheers!

  101. Dear Caroline

With all the adjectives being used by Clara, Steven Chan, Ron & Alic, Andrew, Ronald lee, Catherine, Jie, Su, Joy, Ronald Wi and …..Andrew (again) for Caroline’s Tea Party last nite, Thanks to all my SHC buddies who have already speak my mind.

Aiya, Andrew, you very the “long air” leh. I am supposed to be in the no. 12 position (round up the animals zodiac) and you appear again and block my way.

Kudos to our Gracious host, Caroline. “Yum Seng”

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. :)) Rene

  102. Dear Dear Caroline!

I’m also running out of adjectives to express but I think you really deserve all the compliments from all us who attended your T-Party. You put in so much hard work for us to enjoy, I feel very pai say. I can’t imagine you prepared variety of so yummy food all by yourself. I salute to you for this. Hope you will not suffer from back ache today.

    Thanks a lot!
    veronl

  103. Hi Caroline

Just how do you do it! Cooking up so much food and oh every dish was so good.
I enjoyed myself very much last evening and all this thanks to our hostess Caroline.
    Oi Cheng

  104. wow wow wow…. after a trip back frm Malaysia last nite… today, into SHC website… wahpiangz… walau… so many comments/compliments on Caroline’s tea party… still heng ah…. I am still the first 1 to taste her specialities lor… hahahaha

  105. Hi Dolly,

Yeap, I agree you might be the 1st one to taste Caroline’s carrot cake, but do you know you actually missed damn (excuse me for using this word) alot of other good food that Caroline had prepared for us ? It’s truly unbelievable Caroline can prepared so much food all by herself. I am so touched. I know I can’t.

Well Dolly, you not heng ok. You missed sooooo much fun and laughter. We were like having candlelight dinner in France or Italy. Wish you were there with us. :)p

Having heard and said so much about our enjoyment – aren’t you jealous ?

By the way, Caroline, do you know your tea party topic is in the top list on the chart of this SHC blog ? Shld be more than 130 comments now….. Congrats and Bravo !

    Cheers,
    Susan

  106. Dear Caroline

You are such a superwoman. All the guests last nite have enjoyed so much that we are looking forward for another Tea Party. I can feel the love that u have put into the food u cook. No wonder the food is so special & “terlalu sedap”.

Most importantly of all, A Big Thank You for a wonderful nite.

  107. Thanks Caroline for a wonderful evening at last Saturday’s T-party. Not only was the food fantastic, there was music, line-dancing and above all good company.

For those who didn’t get a chance to try Caroline’s signature ‘Ang Moh Carrot Cake’ can still taste it as I understand she does sell them when she’s in the mood to bake but orders has to be done well in advance. Believe me, you won’t regret it ‘cos the cake is not only moist but guaranteed to have alot of ingredients (liao) that makes it so special.

Thanks again Caroline for a great evening! Lisa

  108. Good morning Rene, Veron, Oi Cheng, Linda and Lisa. Thanks for the compliments. Glad that you all had a good time. Me too. Everyone let their hair down and thank goodness for the fine weather, albeit a bit warm. But who cares when we had fun right? Also thanks to Ron & Alice for bringing the grapes which I did not have the chance to make them into wine because my guests walloped them up. Thanks to Susan for the “kopi hoon” which came a bit late – but definitely appreciated. Thanks to the two Ronalds for bringing their guitar and notebook to provide us with entertainment. Thanks to Tim, Jie and ?? oh dear sorry cannot remember – pls tell me who you are, for the wines and Jade for your pickled mango. You all somehow found the loophole and brought those stuffs without breaking my rules -so no spanking for all of you. Next time can come again :D

  109. Dear Caroline,

What I wanted to say already said by all the “early birds”. It was a wonderful party with a great Host. We enjoyed your home make food/cakes and great fellowship. An opportunity to hear you sing your oldies too.
Thank you so much for the good time.
    Cheers

  110. Dear Peggy & Tim. Thanks for the nice things said. Glad you all had a wonderful time. Also, thanks Tim for being such a gracious guest to help me clean up.
    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  111. Heee. tim ah liu has to confess…………..he chose to stay a bit longer bcos he wont know when he’ll get to see that sweet filipina lady again……….Andrew, what’s the use swallowing saliva now ?

  112. Hi Tim

You said you’re my buddy of 1000 yrs, but when there is a sweet lady, you just left me and only saw for yourself. Now, what can I do? No more saliva to swallow, but keep on drinking water, leh. Vow, all the water finished. Sigh

  113. Andrew, so my fault lah……….expected me to tie you to her skirt or what ?

You were busy working on a shoulder to cry on, and when you closed yr eyes, thinking of resting on that shoulder, it siam. Lucky for you, this 1000 year butty me dived over to lend you my shoulder otherwise that nite huh, bibabiba chap ji chia wd hv rushed you to si bai por liao.

Somemore dare say i no brother, human heart no enough, snake swallow elephant (ren xin bu ju, sher dun xiang).

  114. Tim Ah Liu

Don’t “gei gei” ok. Use Filipina Lady and Andrew to “siam” ah.

Reference to your Post No. 102 dated May 25 at 10:35am. What did you do when everybody left and you volunteered to stay behind on that nite, huh?

Avoid so many pairs of eye witnesses, si bo?

  115. Wah Rene you so sharp arh! What he wrote long time ago you also remember. No lah Tim very kek ki. Ask him to eat some more, he said no lah no lah thanks. He say a lot only but no action so nothing exciting happen so Andrew and all dont be jealous ok. You are a bunch of jokers whom I like very much. Muah muah :D

  116. Heee, ya lor, I ate everythg in Caroline’s fridge and when I started chewing the fridge, she had to stop me (I cant say it in my last post so as not to work up another jealousy in my 1000 year butty).

Well, I thot the work was only half done when it was time to say adios, with some 38 cups/glasses to wash/return to the house, utensils, leftovers and so on. It was getting very quiet and more hands shd get the job done faster, and (just in case) to fend off hands with no bodies attached to.

  117. Hi Caroline,

Thanks a lot for the wonderful evening of fellowship in a very private and conducive environment.

It was really a great feast with so much yummy food to savour. You have really put in so much effort and expense to pamper us all. On top of that we really enjoyed the chit-chatting, watching the line dancers going through their graceful motion and being entertained by the melodious voices of the singers. As usual we thoroughly enjoyed listening to your talented singing.

Thank you again for hosting this very wonderful function.

    With Appreciation,

    Robert & Kristy Quek

  120. Yes, indeed. I saw Ramasamy s/o Govindaraju s/o TTDuraijypillai waiting impatiently at the gates……………In fairness to him, a dating at 8.30 p.m. was considered late as it was more than likely to attract attention when it gets darker, what when we all spot silverhairs.

  121. Dear Robert & Kristy and Phengsok. Glad to know you all enjoyed yourself thoroughly. Sen and my daughter were happy to help me make sure my guests are taken care of. Hear that your kueh kueh also very good. Someday, I hope I get the chance to try some. Aiyoh Tim, I think Pheng Sok cabot because of you. The last time at SBC, you said she make you get no chance with the ladies at SHC hee hee!
