Henry Lim – Profile

Hi All SHC Members,

I have registered many mths ago and have posted a few comments. I have found it to be very interesting and sharing concerns of interest to most pple here.

Allow me to introduce myself. I hope to retire in 2 years time but otherwise work to 62. I studied in Perth in early 70s and qualified as a psychologist which i am currently doing. My clients are pple with relationship issues, work/career, mild emotional problems eg anxiety, depression, stress, etc. I get immense satisfaction when my effort thro psychotherapy, counselling, family therapy, etc, results in their improvement and help them to move on. i am married and wife is a hsewife and only child just started his career after NS. My interests include jogging, table-tennis, fishing, cooking, self-development talks/training, and travelling.

My retirement plans include doing free-lance counselling work as a psychologist, spending more time lazing ard in OZ (say 6mths per year) and looking fwd to be a grandparent.

I welcome comments and other possible retirement plans from members. Hope to join some of the activities soon. will be attending the mtg on 16 May so hope to meet u pple there!

Cheers! Henry

  1. Hi Henry,

It has been a long time since I last played table tennis. Do you still play that regularly? Perhaps I could join in sometime.. Cooking… I need a flagship dish for my cafe…you have any recipe to teach me? I was in Maldives in the 1980s and had a chance to do deep sea fishing. However, back then, things were still rather underdeveloped, fishing was done solely using the line only. But boy, we caught so many that we had to give most away. Would your lovely other half be joining us on the 16th as well?

Well, look forward to meeting you on 16th.

  2. hi Shirley
glad to know we have a few common interests. i play table tennis occasionally now unlike my school/uni days. but i can still do a spin ball effectively! my fav dish is hokkien mee and pork chop with gravy type. all my cooking is agak agak type, no measuring type and whatever is avaialble in fridge, all go into it… but still taste OK. i think line fishing is still my preference, although i use the rod occ. my fav fishing grd is along the beach at ECP, bedok jetty, changi. i wd like to try fishing near the Fullerton.
i gather u r into some kind of gourmet restaurant biz??? any house specialties to share? hope to interest my wife to come along on 16 may but she sleep early type…. so wait and see. i think the session shd be interesting and an eye-opener for all of us. c u there!
    cheers! henry

  3. Hi Henry,

My plans are still in the works and looking for dishes to be my flagship piece. Not gourmet restaurant of any sort. Idea started with a simple hotdog stand and now it seems to be evolving into a cafe. Will see how things come along. See u then. Shirley

  4. Not a gourmet restaurant but a simple hotdog stand or a cafe. Need to do a lot of research still but meanwhile, am taking orders or sausages or hotdogs if you have any occasions.
    See you on 16th.

  5. Hi Henry,

I note your interests in table-tennis, fishing and cooking. If you can take this up further, with other SilverHairs, we would definitely support your activities.

    Give it a go.

  6. Hi All

    I thought I heard fishing.

Though I have not done any so far,I have been visiting Bedok Jetty to watch the fishermen and pick up some pointers in preparation for retirement (which is about now as I am working part time). Fishing is on my “list of to do” for my retirement journey (others include pool/billiards, hiking, travel, games (table tennis, badminton), share investments, etc). So, if there is any fishing activity, do let me know as I am keen to join in (if timing fits; also keep in mind I am a novice). Thanks.

  7. Hi SB, shd you decide to relax in pool or sporepools’ many wagers, do pls give me a shout. Fishing….not for me, cant bear the sight of a fish, livelier than me a while ago, struggling in pain to break free.

  8. Hi Tim Liu

I played some 4 ball billiards and skittles when I was a youngster but have not lifted a cue stick for more than 30 years (ow an oldster lah). I have been watching 9 ball pool and snooker on TV for the last few years and they seem like interesting games to play. It would be nice to collect some interested kakis and have weekly sessions (especially on weeknights when things are slower; weekends likely to have more activities so there may be clashes). Anyone else interested?

    sb

  9. Haha, SB, excellent that you hvnt lifted a cue for 30 years otherwise dare i play with you? I find snooker more fun in that you can hide the target ball and make yr opponent sweat over it……..but me talk only cos I was always the bloke sweating.

Alas, wk-nites are out for me cos I do babysit part-time. But every thread has a silver lining so once this interest for these games is stoked, think we’ll get to start playing someday. Meanwhile, perhaps hv some ping pong with Andrew…he can spin & screw ttill he turns blue.

  10. Hi Henry n Tim

U hv a ready kaki here 4 snooker.

If any of u guys here wld prefer something different n refreshing, I can bring u around Little India 4 night tour plus makan.

  11. Hi Henry & Yew Kwong

    Henry

If you are calling a group of people for fishing, please let me know. I always remembered of fishing at Pasir Ris, Elias Road fishing pond during my younger days, since then, I have no chance of doing it again.

    Yew Kwong

I am happy to see that you want to volunteer as a Little India night tour guide. I will be 1st one to register. normally, I dare not go there at night of some obvious reason.

  12. Hi Henry

    Ronlai

  13. Yew Kwong, I feel safer to join you if you organise the little india tour in the day….at least I know what touches me……..(ooops, me out of order??)

  14. Hi all,
many tks for your comments, suggestions, requests, etc. hope this posting address most of them, else my apology.
Fishing – not so keen on off-shore. either shore or at bedok jetty. usually end up with a few catfish. only rarely get a garoupa. fren told me off Fullerton a good fishing grd. so will try that new place soon.

table-tennis : has difficulty finding a suitable place. even condo don’t have this! CC perhaps. so, will try to explore one near marine pde/geylang near my home.

    snooker : not so keen!

hope to meet u good pple and discuss further at the sideline of the coming meet-up session on May16. c u all till then!

    cheers! henry
