Blue Helmet preparation

The Blue Helmet project is currently at its business plan stage.  For SHC members who may not be familiar with this project, Blue Helmet is intended to take the tasks of being a one-stop shop where companies can recruit experienced professions.  Other tasks include training and continued education.  Many SilverHairs have retired, and Blue Helmet hopes that their skills, knowledge and experience can continue, after 55 or 62.

Currently, we are looking for SilverHairs, with experience in:

  • Managing Human Resource departments
  • Managing Finance and accounting departments.

If you feel you can contribute to the Blue Helmet project, at this stage of project submission, please raise your hands.  If you put your name here, KT Wong or myself will be in touch with you.

  2. Hi all,

Seems there are now more semi-Blue Helmet projecte slowly picking up and I hope many more will be courageous enough of have the pioneering spirit to push what ever they think is their passion. Some of these are as follows:-

    1. CPT Beer North Indian cuisine and Beer , now with live one man band too, Edwin. Used to be a once a year affair , hopefully it can be a quarterly or monthly affair. At $15 per head is a good deal for homestyle dine, wine and enjoy good Cpt Beer’s passion and hospitality.

    2. Daniel’s Perankan Cooking lesson and a full lunch inclusive at $10 per head with dessert of light entertainment. Will be a monthly affair when time permits.

    3. Shirley Wong’s Hot Dog and Special Spahgetti Catering service.

    4. Daniel’s Drum Lessons.

    5. Ronald Weekly JB trip for shopping, dining and marketing of durians, vegetables, etc. Round trip from central MRT stations to return trip to your doorstep at $10 per head.

    6. Ronald Malacca or Genting trips as required, groups can planned and arranged with me.

Others that hopefully can be started soon.

    7. Lisa Hairdressing Class and hairdo at reasonable rates.

    8. Edwins singing and music Lessons, contact Edwin Chen.

    9. Someone suggested , babysitting of grand parents, dogs ,etc ? If i have missed out anyone , please add in your activity here.

Also in the last meeing on the 17th , 2 Ladies mentioned about their Beauty Care and Health Spa Businesses and hopefully they can offer to SHC members at a special price as part of SHC Blue Helmet Projects ?

Terence, want me to make a house call to them, as i almost make house calls to most of the people in SHC , what is 2 more ladies ?

Hopefully more people will come forward and offer their services at rates they think will benefit SHC members as well.

A few guidelines I would sugest based on feedbacks that i have got from a few customers.

    1. Dont be afraid to name a price that you want, as long as it comparatively cheaper than what market price is. They will always be people who will appreciate it and this is what you want to cater to as eventually it has to be of a commercial value to run a blue helmet projecet else you will be running a charity home.

    2. Be professional, state up front the cost per head, and as long as you know it is cheaper than what market value is , forget about unreasonable comments, eventually it is the satisfied customer, who appreaciate s good value, that make your day.

    3. Also I hope those who want to start off their own Blue Helmet projects and other SHC members using such services too, learn how to be sociable. On that note I hope all SHC members too can be be tolerant, sociable and not be too quick in making quick judgements that disencourage other from wanting to start.

    4. As SHC gets bigger with more activities, members in general should have a more open mind, be more socialable and supportive and not be too clanish and start encouraging obligations on others. That is why it is always good to set a price for whatever activity you want to do , as this free you and those who take part in your activity to feel free and not to be obligated in some way.

This is what i feel is what being professional is, serve a customer satisfactorily at the agreed price and both moved on happily and hopefully customers return for more. I am saying this based on feedback that i have got from satisfied customers to the weekly JB trip. They feel safe, pampered to go where they want to , at their own time, choose what they want to eat or dine, and return with a good load of their shopping right to their doorsteps at only $10 per head.

Sorry if this sounds like a personal advertisement just sharing as i hear there are more people wanting to start such similar projects but are wary of negative comments ,etc. But i am just sharing that that if you want to start a Blue Helmet project you have to expect all these as part and parcel.

That is why , a Pot Luck is a good way to get together because everyone pays a certain price and sometimes maybe paying more. So is it not better to pay a fixed price for meal ,or a trip knowing what the cost is and not having to be forever obliged or obligated in some way ?

For all those who want to start venturing into your own Blue Helmets projects , can always call me or Daniel and we can always have a coffee talk and get you started .

Cheers , towards a bigger Retirement Community of Blue Helmet projects, where in future we can dine , have a hair cut, massage and entertainments, trips etc at all SHC Blue Helmet Projects, including investing with Kt Wong and Co.

Not to forget that we already have good monthly programmes that are free that are supported by willing volunteers who do them just for fun.

    So cheers to all ,

  4. Hi Ron Wie,

A few years back, I chance upon performing for a private dinner party at the home of a very stylish chinese lady. She has this very lovely bungalow quite near to the Goodwood Park Hotel.I cannot remember her name but she is really a great party host.

Later on, I learnt that she does this partying very regularly and for selected guests(VIPs?)almost like a business if you will. The embience was truly posh to say the least! A setting fit for a James Bond movie!
I performed in a tuxedo? No tails!

    Capt.Sri are you reading this?

    Regards,Uncle Edwin
(change of name, too many Edwins around)

  5. Hi Edwin,

Yes good ideas, you get the contract, i will do the arrangements for catering for food, wine, women and songs ?

Then i will subcontract to other Blue helmets ,Daniel Peranakan Food, North Indian Cuisine and Beers, Caroline’s carrot cake, Ken’s Tiramisu, Pheng Sok’s Shepard Pies , Shirley’s Hot dogs , Edwin’s music and Cat’s Dance girls and Susan and Molly singers , and our very own Frank Sinatra (Terence singing ‘My Way’) .

Sounds like a good package , not mention Patrick’s Limousine service for the VIP, and Tim one man stand up comic ,also as back up Bouncers ?

I am sure there is more right ? So , maybe in another year or two , we might even get our own Van for food and music to run around town or even have a cafe somewhere in Ponggul where it is cheaper ?

Of course we need all other SHC’s members help to bring in the crowd , for office functions, birthday ,senior engagement, Divorce annoucements ,etc.

    Cheers

  6. Hi Ronald Wie,

Above sounded gd. If #5 takes off, may consider signing up a package with you for my 60th Bdae Celebration. Any special/special rate for such early booking?

    Cheers,

  7. Hi Annto,

Good you can be a part of the organising group also when you are the first customer as you have expressed some good ideas for posstible personal Blue Helmet Projects.

Hopefully we could get more members who want to celebrate such occasions ,then we can start getting to be a bit more organised.

We do however need more people who want to participate in whatever way to come forward , be it in providing special food, cakes, drinks, entertainment , special transportation etc.

So let us hear more people coming forward as customers, or organiser, or service providers.

    Cheers

  8. Hi Ronald, and all keen partipants of Blue Helmet.

Blue Helmet is intended to be a one-stop shop where SilverHairs can offer their skills, services and products for a fee.

Ronald, and a number of SHC members who particated in the July gathering, have come up with good ideas. It is good time to have another meeting to set up the structure. We can have a small startup group.

Ronald is retired, and he has time. I shall discuss with him for a date, time and place.

For those interested to participate, please keep in touch.

  9. Hi Ronald,
How is your JB trip/tours coming along. I haven’t been to JB, per se, in donkey’s years. With all the negative news it has put me off. I am game to try a day trip if you think it is fairly safe.. Let me know the details.
    Thanks…..Jie

  10. Hi Jie and all

Weekly Trip to JB is on Tuesdays, (check JB and you will see the posting ). Ad Hoc trips to Malacca or KL/Genting can be arranged too.

Someone just recommended me to bring a VIP guest(father and daughter) to Malacca for a 3 days/2 night trip and glad to say , the trip was enjoyable, safe for everyone and was paid at the rates i stated and also given an unexpected generous tip.

Hymm, seems we can try to create a niche for such personal services to Malacca, KL, and Genting. So if we can get regular visitors , we need to get a pool of drivers with cars willing to offer such service.

So Jie , Tuesday to JB is always on even if it is only you alone , of course it will be better if you bring a friend who share your passion to shop and eat and enjoy being pampered driven around JB at your call and own time.

    Cheers

  11. Hi, one more try. So far, we have not had anyone raising his/her hand. We are looking for an experienced Finance/Accounting person to join the Blue Helmet project.

Please let me or KT Wong know, if you would like to venture this SilverHairsClub project.

    Cheers. Terence

  12. What truly amazes me is that after the media has fettered what the PM has made it public at ND, the interest at grassroot is lukewarm at best.

Blue Helmet represents the core theme of the country’s focus this year. But we can’t find one Finance/Accounting volunteer in a country famous for its finacial institutions. Could it be that the planners have got it all wrong? Does the problem not exist? If the problem exists, does this mean that no one cares?

Shows that “end of the world” messages are hard sell today.

  13. Terence, why not change yr tag to ask for a placard with price and you’ll find many hands holding those placards waving for attention.

Moneyism riles but still rules and it’s hard to say it’s unfair but rest assured, we do hv professionals in other fields willing and ready to chip in when the time comes.

  14. The answer is obvious.

Rome is not built in one day and dew is not condensed only at dawn.

When it becomes a pyramid, the one sitting at the top is crucial.

    For your think-tank.

    Happy hunting and Cheers.

  15. The search for Human Resource and CFO experience from SilverHairsClub will close end of this week. As we proceed with the Blue Helmet project, we may therefore have to find someone outside the club.

Should you or you know someone within the club with the above experience, please request them to contact KT Wong or myself.
