  1. Thank you Geraldine for putting up this post. Janet is truly a fighter till the end., she has tirelessly been putting good performances and have put forward her best for every shows that she had with SHC. I regretted not seeing her last performance at Taipei Nite. ????????????

Janet, may you rest in peace.. We gonna miss you !

  2. Dear Janet

Now I am holding a bookmark in my hand. The bookmark has a fat baby on it and written – “Dear God, If you can’t make me thin ….. at least make my friends fat.

You sent me this bookmark on 20/09/09, the time my mood was low and my body was thin (easily gone with the wind). I intended to leave SHC and not contact with people. Because of your bookmark, I still be a member of SHC today.

You will always on my mind.

  3. Dear Janet

You are one of the sweetest people I have ever met. Soft spoken but not weak. Always ready to give a helping hand when needed. Your passion for singing is obvious at all your wonderful performances.

We were having so much fun just a week or so ago. And i cant believe it was our last goodbye when you alighted from Ronnie’s car that night.

It was good knowing you. You were a fighter all the way. You never allowed it to bother you and you lived life to the best you can.

Rest in peace dear friend. We will miss you.

  4. Rest in peace sweet and talented Janet. you sang very well and am glad to have the chance acting with you in the moon Cake Home Coming drama.
My deepest condolences to the loved ones you left behind

  5. Dear Janet,

Yes, indeed you are such a sweet person. Words cannot express how sad I am.
It’s only a fortnight ago when I requested you to sing for me at Comcentre and you did. You kept asking me what other songs do I wish for you to sing and I didn’t want any more because others were singing.

May your soul rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon you.
I will pray for you and remember you in my prayers.
    I miss you!

  6. Dearest Janet,

I may not know you well but I know you sang the loveliest Cantonese numbers in SHC…I remember hearing you sang and acted in Chinatown Night, i recalled you won in 2 D&Ds, your pleasant personality remains vividly in my mind…a nice and sweet lady indeed! Rest assured you will always in our hearts…..

  8. Hi SHCians

I am very much saddened by the demise of a caring SHC friend, Janet.

Will always keep her in my memory! Janet was so sisterly, that in some way she reminded me of my most beloved late 3rd sister.

Janet was such a nice, strong person who embraced life beautifullyand I salute her !

  9. It was early Sunday morning 15 Sep that I received the unfortunate news of Janet’s demise from Karen.

Remembering the first time we met at the first SHC Kelong trip some years ago (the very same group photo currently on the forum banner), how we chatted quietly on the bottom step of the kelong away from the rest; and the time when you got drunk at my place. Thereafter, our subsequent meetings at SHC as well as at private events were taken for granted. I can’t turn back the clock but rest assured my memories of you will remain forever.

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ :( :( :( ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    To Boon Liang,

I join the many friends in SHC who knew Janet in offering our deepest condolence.

I know how you would be feeling on the demise of your loving companion. She was a sweet and charming woman with a fighting spirit. May her soul rest in peace. And may you get the strength to handle the situation in the best way possible.

Remembering Janet’s recent cravings for certain food, you went out of the way to get them for her….. Sunday mee rebus, today mee siam, and tomorrow Chinatown claypot rice…… My friend, do take care not to wear yourself out.

    Lily

  10. Dear Janet,
Although we’re known each other for only a short period of time, my memory of you will be that a brave & courageous lady, no matter how challenging and tough you go thru in life. Even with your health conditions, you still bring joy & happiness to people around you. Your melodic voice in singing and those days we shared together will in our hearts forever.
May you rest in peace and,my deepest condolences to Janet’s family.

  11. Boon liang.. Stay strong. Janet wants that of you
I was at the wake tonight..and when the eulogy was delivered by janet’s son… He broke down several times.. And i just could not contain myself too.. There were alot of wet eyes. Janet was a strong lady who lived life to the fullest inspite of liver cancer. She won the fight. And now smiling at us from heaven.

  12. My deepest condolences to the family of our dearest member, Janet Chan. You will be deeply missed by all who’ve known you to be a soft-spoken but a strong lady with good-fighting spirits.
    May you rest in peace…

  13. Dearest Janet, my loving companion and confidante,

Looking at pale white lifeless body, my heart was heavy beyong bound
    .
Less than 24 hours ago, I was by your bedside eating the greenbean soup you have asked me to buy. We chatted for 2hours before your fever went up again.

I knew I knew: by that look in your eyes and that smile that the moment has eventually arrived. You are finally released from all your pain and suffering.

Each night after our nightly chat, we would whispered – Good Night Jue Jue (kiss kiss)……and in the morning, we would txt each other Gd morning Jue Jue (kiss kiss)…. For now, all I could do is look up to the sky and make this gesture.

Your voice, your singing are always beautiful….. I recalled telling you (when we first met) that …..from now on, I don’t have to pay & travel to Hong Kong/Taiwan to hear famous divas Sing, for …….You are our DIVA!

You have never failed to do your duty as mother, despite your condition; you always have to put your children in the 1st place and catered religiously to their needs. Heard from your daughter, Michelle, last Friday, you had even lug toiletries and other household items in your feverish state, this I salute you, a 24 hour mother.

After my cornea transplant in Feb 2013, you came over to my place, help me wash my hair – salon style and you took the initiative to surprise me with a pair of goggle to prevent dirty water from damaging my new cornea just before I went cave trekking on 7 Sep. I will treasure this last gift from you.

Your positive & tireless personality, your feisty spirit, strength and endurance would be an inspiration to many others.

    May you rest in peace.

    1. Janet was a friend to many members of the SilverHairsClub. Many of you like her because of her good temperament. I have always wondered at why a nice lady like Janet has to suffer the pains of cancer at such a young age. Unfortunately, many things in life are not predictable.

Yes, Janet has always wanted to be a star, she loves to sing and also act. Importantly, she loved to see members happy. She had given a lot to SHC, and I appreciate all that she had done for us.

      Have a nice journey ahead.

      Terence Seah

  14. The first message I received in the taxi on the way home from the airport was from Karen that Janet had passed away…..

I recalled my first encounter with Janet was at a bowling event but did not have the chance to get to know her except to watch her bowled and be bowled over. The next meeting was the kelong which she and Boon Liang had organised. Following that we have had numerous get together for movies, clay pot rice, late nights at Hooha and K’ok, short trips around the region etc. Our last get together was about 2 weeks before her demise when we had our K’ok session and though she had just been discharged from the hospital the day before, she was there with us and even bought my favourite yam soon kueh for me…..that’s how caring she has been.

She told me her dreams of stardom and I am glad she had her chance to shine at the various events. Am so glad too that she had found a loving companion in Boon Liang during the last few years of her life.

I remembered when we visited her in the hospital a few months ago Boon Liang was playfully rubbing her head and joked that he had more hair then her but he was so sweet telling her that no matter what happens he will always be with her. I was so touched and I told some of my friends that these were the most wonderful words I have heard. And above all he kept his promise till the end and I salute you Boon Liang for that and hope you stay strong as Janet would like you to.

She would be sadly missed but memories of her will always be alive in our hearts. Now that she had finally been relieved of her pain and suffering may she now rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord and join in His band of angels to watch over us and especially her dearly beloved ones.

Condolences to her bereaved family for the loss of their loving mother and Boon Liang too for the loss of his loving companion.

Rest in peace dear Janet and thank you for the good memories we shared.

    Sockie

  15. My condolences goes to Janet’s family.

I will missed you Janet, rest in peace my dear friend. You’re such a wonderful, friendly, soft spoken & always smiling friend that I know thru’ SHC. I will always remember the good times we had during our past performances.

  18. Not many men express their feelings here. Nevertheless, I am sure all who know Janet will feel a sense of great loss. Sigh. Janet was one of the few ladies I spoke Cantonese with. Remember her smile, remember her frown and remember the times when she chided me like an elder sister. Sigh.

BL, your message above moved even a “tough nut” like me. Don’t know what to say, except, till we meet for a coffee or beer – you TAKE CARE! Our hearts are with you even though we are not there to send Janet off tomorrow. Sigh!

  19. As in the photo above i was at the kelong too where we get to know you. Always smiling and a good listener. You love bowling but because of this illness you even have to put up the bowling ball for sale.
Boon Liang, stay strong we are always ready to stand by you. You may want to share with us how you met her? Rest assured that she been translated to a better place!
“To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.

  20. Annie and me first met Janet on the cruise to watch the 2012 Fifa world cup final in December. We were inspired by her way of living life to its fullest despite inflicted with an incurable illness. Our sympathy and condolence to her family and special one.

    Janet’s family

I’ve met you only a few times, great knowing you but I did’nt get the chance to
know you better. I could’nt believe you hid those pains in your smiles and
singing. You will be dearly missed by all !
Rest in peace as Heaven is surely a better place !

Boon Liang…I salute you, for you ‘re such an inspiration ! Am deeply sorry

  22. Hi All

  23. Goodbye Janet. Although I do not know you very well, I remember you as a soft-spoken, sweet and always smiling gentle lady, who had been endowed with the most beautiful voice. I’ve heard you singing on quite a few occasions, the latest being your wonderful performance on the Taipei Cabaret Night in July ~ singing as well as dancing the Alisan Koo Niang number.

No more pain and suffering. You have gone for your eternal reward in Heaven.
Death is the end of time but the beginning of eternity. RIP Janet.

With deepest sympathy and hearthfelt condolences to Janet’s family.

Boon Liang – I’m touched by what you have written about your relationship with Janet. It’s the most beautiful love story I’ve come across. Cherish the lovely memories and know that you’ve done the best you can for your beloved Janet. I’m sure Janet wouldn’t want to see you sad. Do take care, BL.

  24. Hi Lily (the Forum Moderator)

Just read you latest comment about the “religious references”. I am a stupid old man and always make mistake (that why I seldom write), so I run thro the whole comments and found that – yes, only my comment has mentioned “My God” and the other comments seems quite OK (may be my English is not good, cannot understand some hidden meaning).

To me, I just believe in “having good sleep every night” and without other believing. The “My God” in my comment is just quoted from a bookmark which Janet sent me. Will this be also against the club’s law???

Furthermore, in our Chinese saying “???????”. Everything should consider their aim. In this post, if we used some “religious references” to express our missing of Janet but not used them to sell their religion. In my opinion, it should be acceptable. If any one complaint about this, they are just ????.

Of course, an stupid old man don’t understand many thing especially the mind of a Forum Moderator. Just express my point of view only. “Nothing Personal”.

  25. Lily,

Like Andrew Y I am curious about the complaints about religious references. What are the complaints about? If you don’t list them out, how can we know what parameters exist to avoid ‘religious complaints’.
How are we to grow in discernment?
You should list out some or all as I believe most of us are mature and discerning enough to contribute

  26. Hi Andrew
No worries about expressing your point of view here. Glad you did. That someone did not really complain but questioned why I allow it ? Is it because I am of the same faith? So, to avoid further issue and also to uphold the club’s policy, I made this request. No intention to offend anyone or to be ???? (heartless).

Reason you can’t find any explicit religious text is because I had deleted it. The one who posted the comment or those who have read before I edited would know what was being deleted.

Some comments like yours went under moderation before being released because the system had been pre-programmed to pick up words that need to be moderated. To pass the system, some members used words in disguise eg. Gud, Godd, and others, etc.

    Hope this clarifies.

Please see explanation to Andrew above. The line being deleted was scripture verse. I had left the verse intact but deleted where it was quoted from ie. book, chapter and verse number.

  28. In loving memory of Janet

I was shock to learn of Janet’s passing this morning when I went into the website. Janet made an impact on the lives of our members. Her kindness and caring ways towarded others are boundless.

Some years ago, I joined some member to the kelong organized by Janet and Boon Liang. The vision of sweet and smiling Janet bobbing on a rubber tyre is still fresh in my mind. Later on, she swam with the dolphins in a small lake. She enjoyed the nature as well as singing. Janet truly enjoyed life to the fullest.

When Janet and Boon Liang’s friendship grew into a caring companionship. It was a blessing and lovely. To have one and other, to love and to care.

As much as we want to see our love one’s presence physically, but another moment or another day of that could mean more suffering for that person.

Beautiful Janet is released from her pain, rest in peace my dear one. We will certainly miss you.

My deepest condolence to Janet’s family and Boon Liang.

Boon Liang, You are feeling down and sad, but do take care, just remember you have many good and caring friends in Silverhairs Club.

    Agnes

  29. Dear friends,
Janet’s family and I cannot express enough our gratitude for all your kindness, comforting words of condolence, contributions & presence during Janet’s wake.
Our appreciation also, to those who had made the effort to send Janet off on Wednesday 18 Sep 2013.

And to friends and well wishes who couldn’t be there but relayed your condolences and tributes, thoughts for your emotional/Spiritual support and generous contributions.

Janet lived a full and happy life, refusing to give in to her illness with typical stubbornness. We want to thank all those for their part in helping us to get through those difficult days.
Janet was really fortunate to have so many good friends.
It is great knowing that Janet was so well loved and that she had influenced you in some way.

Thank you for sharing your fond memories of her; your support truly boosted our spirits.

Our heartfelt thank you to all,

    Janet’s family and Boon Liang
