Update on Kelong Trip (19/20 April 2008)

Hi, kelong kakis :   emoticon

In a few days, Terence will let us know the bank account number to which we will be able to make our payments towards the kelong trip on 19/20 April 2008.

At the moment, 63 people have registered for the trip. The coach to/from Tg Leman Jetty is able to carry only 40 passengers, which means 23 people will have to find alternative land transport. We can hire smaller vehicles for 10 to 12 persons, but the cost per person is higher. I also believe some of you may prefer to drive up on your own, or are able to ‘tumpang’ others who are driving up.

Could those who have registered for the trip please indicate (by posting a comment here)  whether you need land transport to/from Tg. Leman Jetty, or whether you will be making the trip with your own transport?

We will be collecting S$100 per person who require land (coach, minibus) transport, and S$75 for those who are driving up or have buddies to ‘tumpang’ them.

We hope that this amount is enough to pay for the cost for the trip. Any money collected in excess will be refunded. In the unlikely event that the amount collected is insufficient, we trust that those going will not mind topping up the difference.

The S$100 will cover the cost of :  emoticon

  • Transport by coach/minibus to & from Tg Leman Jetty;
  • Entrance fee to the Tg. Leman Jetty;
  • Stay at the Hotboys Kelong (including meals)

Meanwhile, Zen of Hotboys Kelong has provided the following clarifications to the questions some of you raised:

Beds   emoticon

Bunk beds will be provided, with mattresses, etc.

Toilet Facilities   emoticon

Let’s just say that the facilities are the type where denizens of the deep will be waiting to consume – directly – what the human body rejects.

First Aid Kits   emoticon

Basic First Aid kits will be available

Drinks   emoticon

Free flow of coffee, tea and drinking water will be provided

Sea Transport  (safety)   emoticon

I have been assured that life jackets will be available. The boats used are safe, in good condition and will not be overloaded.

Cost of Optional Activities, Purchases and Rentals   emoticon

A limited number of fishing rods and hand lines will be available for rent.

Fishing hooks, sinkers, lines, etc will be available for sale.

While activities such as mahjong, carrom, island hopping, etc are provided at no additional cost, a number of optional activities have to be paid for.

Please note that the S$100 / S$75 each person pays does not include the cost of such optional rentals / purchases / activities.

You may want to familarise yourselves with the kelong and its optional rentals / purchase / activities by visiting http://www.kelongfishing.com/index.asp.

Travel Insurance   emoticon

Those requiring travel insurance are advised to purchase the insurance on their own.

Terence :   emoticon

Could you handle the collection and keeping track (who is paying and for whom) of payments, or assign someone else to manage this aspect of the trip?

Thanks.

  1. Hi Ron

Aileen and I might have some appts on those days. Regrets unable to join this occasion.

    Enjoy yourselves folks.

    Warmest regards

    Andrew

  2. Hi Ron

I will require land transport to & from Tg. Leman Jetty. Await further information to do bank transfer.

    Thks / Lily

  3. Ron,

Yes, I shall advise the payment procedure after the Sat CNY lunch.

Meantime, I must say you are very imaginative and descriptive, with the toilet bowl icon. Thank you for the excellent follow-ups.

    Terence Seah

  4. Hi Terence/Ron,

I like that toilet bowl icon very much too. Think it is cute. Ron must be a very creative person, that’s why he is good at origami and maybe lots of other things too.

  5. A very concise but detailed write-up, great work done there, RonK !

Since there was no mention of ferry, I’ll assume that it’s a walk-out to the kelong from the jetty which averts all fears of falling overboard……..good.

Finally, Unless it takes longer than a day to walk to Tg Leman, I’ll hv to take the t0-n-fro land transport.

  6. Hi, all who responded at #2 to #11: your requirements for land transport to/from Tg Leman noted, thank you.

    Andrew Kuan (#1):

Sorry you have to skip this trip. You and Aileen will be missed.

    Terence (#5) & Lina (#9):

Sorry, but I can’t take credit for those cute emoticons. I did not include them in my post, and was wondering how they came to be added in. They are real cute, but I don’t think I would have used the toilet bowl emoticon since the kelong doesn’t have toilet bowls ….. :o)

    Cheers,

    Ron

  7. Tim (#10):

Unless can emulate Jesus Christ or you have lost so much weight that you now weigh no more than a piece of flotsom, walking to the kelong is not recommended. :o)

The ‘ferry’ is mentioned under ‘sea transport (safety)’. I think bumboats might be a more appropriate term.

    Cheers,

    Ron

  8. RonK, so i’ll hv to take back my compliments & credit to you for the write-up, that in truth & all honesty, the $100 (or $75 as the case may be) doesnt include the boat ride to the kelong which means we can be at the mercy of Hotboys….and you as well if the conspiracy theory becomes real, haha.

Mahatma Ghandi just had a brisk walk with me in the morning, and believe me you, I pipped him at the post by a nose.

But unless you too join me to walk there, ok, transport for me with room enough for a flotilla which I’ll take with me just in case, yr boat ride is priced for heavenly kings.

  9. Hi Ron, will follow the bus ride to and from.

Are you trying to get the first 40 who pay up get the bus ride? Late comers will have to find their way there by hook or by crook!

  10. Tim (#15):

    Now you got me worried!

There is no mention of additional charges for the boat ride from the Tg. Leman Jetty to the Kelong on the Hotboys website. All other additional/optional charges are mentioned. That being the case, I assumed that the cost for the boat ride is included in the package deal offered by Hotboys, which is usual in the other kelongs I have been to (many moons ago).

    (Got to check; better check)

    Ron Koh

  11. Hi, Dan (#16):

The first 40 who registered for the trip AND paid up will in fairness be travelling by the 40-seater coach. We will try renting smaller 10-12 seater minibuses to accommodate the rest who need transport. These smaller vehicles cost more per passenger. If we have time, we may even consider chartering coaches minibuses from some Singapore-Malaysia travel agents at Golden Mile. I believe this could be cheaper.

Whatever happens, we will try accommodating everyone who wants to go (fingers crossed), but I don’t think we will be in a position to leave things to the very last minute.

    Cheers,

    Ron

  12. Seriously (as I always am), RonK, these boys are hot……why else do they call themselves Hotboys and not Coolboys or Mothersboys?

Hot on the heels from running away………hahaha, yr guess can be only as good as mine.

Whatever, you certainly deserve credit & kudos, from me for sure.

    Well done, butty !

  13. Hi Ron,

Please include both myself & wife’s name in your land transport (to/fro). Many thanks

    Alan Bok & Ann chew

  14. Hi Ron,

Great job for putting the trip together. Much regret that due to work commitment I’ve gotta give this a miss.

U guys & gals, have a good time.

    Cheerio! ChristinaCL Chan

  15. Tim (#20):

What is this …. first you give me credit, then you take back, and then you give me credit again. How to take you seriously …. :o)

Hotboys is derived from the first letters of the surnames of the three shareholders, i.e:

    Eugene Huang
    Alex Ong
    Jonathan Tan

They will be on a kelong – cannot run away.

    Ron Koh

  16. RonK, it’s back to memory lane…………..

Remember, when you & I were still wearing diapers, you wanted my ultraman and asked me to take yr melancholic looking golliwog?

Then, a day later you wanted yr golliwog cos you cdnt keep pace with my ultraman.

Yes, as we add years on, we become more & more like kids………..give, take back, give again, take back again.

(So, do pray that I wont take back my credit to you)

Well, if we take the initials of their names, it can become “EAT”…….so you may wish to check in yr re-check whether they love to eat up a hunk like you……me got no meat so no worry there.

Their kelong has mazes…….they dont hv to run very fast but you wont find them. And some lanes lead you to yr denizen friends, in yr words, “waiting to consume” a reject………or an abject.

  17. Hi RonK

Kindly include Alice and I in the land transport to and fro Tg Leman.

BTW your descriptions of the toilet facilities is superb, does it include facilities for shower as well?

    Ronlai

  18. Andrew, you berate the cj, j lock & few hundred claims….they aint my n-o-k so why wd i feel personal?

Go ahead, throw yr kitchen basin at them, I am indifferent……………

RonL, let me whisper into yr ears away from Alice’s………they hv chio bu either to scrub you or for a higher fee, bathe together……..shiok hor?

Seriously, I shant ravage & thereby trivialise this thread any more………chabot liao.

  19. Hi RonK,

Plesse include Veronique Lee and me in the land transport to/from Tg. Leman.

    Thanks a heap!

  20. Hi, all who responded from #16 to #29 re land transport:

Your requirement for land transport to and from Tg Leman Jetty have been noted.

    Tim (#28):

Are you trying to lie about your age? When you were in diapers, Ultraman was around yet! Good try, buddy. :o)

  21. Hi, Christine (CL)(#22):

So sorry you won’t be able to join us. We’ll be thinking of you with each fish we haul up. :o)

    Ron

  22. Hi Tom Kor

Don’t chabot so fast, RonK hasn’t finalise the Kelong adventure as yet. I’ll make sure to bring extra fishing rod, so as to enable you to try to fish a Mermaid, lah.

    Ronlai

  23. Hi Ron Koh,

Due to some family commitment, I have to give this trip a miss this round. Hope that you will get great fun.

  24. Ron, I was told I had to specify that I will need land transport TO an FROM Tg Leman, so I’m doing it again. Thank you.

  25. Hi, Mary (#39) & all:

The land transport will be provided TO and FROM Tg Leman Jetty. Sorry, I omitted the ‘from’ and caused the confusion. My post at the top of this thread has been amended accordingly.

Tim: Further to my #17, Zen of Hotboys confirmed that the cost of the ferry ride to and from the kelong is included in their package price. (PS: why you ‘chabot’ so fast? More fun with you around).

Ronlai (#26): Bath facilities are available, but you will have to use a ladle. If you want to shower, you can always bring your own ladle with lots of holes drilled into the bottom. :o)

I have taken note of the requests for land transport and Meifoo’s withdrawal from #32 to #39.

So far, 25 people need land transport and 4 have withdrawn (Andrew Kuan, Aileen Kuan, CatherineCL and Meifoo), which leaves another 25 people whose response are pending.

    Terence:

Just a very gentle reminder: We need the bank account number and details on how payment is to be made and accounted for.

We need to finalise, make a firm booking and pay the deposit preferably by the first week of March or risk some other group ‘potong jalan’ing us.

    Best regards,

    Ron

  26. Thanks RonK for taking that extra mileage to check & confirm that the price is inclusive of boat-ride (to & fro, I daresay unless heatiness has got to the heads of the hotboys and they want to keep & feed us and convert the kelong into an old folks home).

Had to chabot that evening to pick up my kid……she prefers me than the maid, further attesting to “opposite gender attracts”.

  27. As at this time of writing, the following persons have indicated that land transport is needed by them:

    01 Tim Liu

    Many thanks!!!

  30. Dear Ron
If my eyes not playing tricks. Think-
You left out my name #43.
    My comment #37,
My name veron wong (aka vwong).
I will not be able to swim across w/o de transport.

  31. Veron (#47):

My apologies – eyes playing tricks on me. I have you on my list of people needing land transport. Hope no one else is going to have to swim over. :o)

Dennis (#46): Got you and Wendy on the list too.

Terence: Re your comment at (#44), I’ll see what I can do, but as mentioned to you before, I rather not have anything to do with the financial side of the trip.

    Ron

  32. Terence:

Is this the bank account number and mode of payment: By ATM or IBanking to the following account “DBS Saving Plus 023-2-036-239”?

Still require details on the accounting part of it – i.e. keeping track of who pays how much and for whom, etc.

    Cheers,

    Ron Koh
(in case anyone forgets, I’m still an SHC greenhorn here. :o)

  33. Eliza (#49) and Alice (#50):

I’ve got your request for land transport for the two of you as well as Gwenyth.

    Ron

  34. Hi Ron

Subject to work schedules whether I will be able to join. If it is not too much trouble to KIV my seat, I need the land transport too.

    Thanks,
    Rene

  35. Hi Ron

    note #45 above!
me think there is another thread on the next page where participants are listed!!!
    which thread is official???

    warmest regards
    margarert

  36. Hi, Margaret:

Have noted your comment at #45 and Rene’s at #53. Please let me know as soon as you are able to confirm your participation, one way or another.

I’m not sure what the procedure is with regards to duplicated threads in SHC, but the practice, from what I can make out, seems to be to stop commenting on one thread as soon as a subsequent (more up-to-date)thread is started.

There are three threads on the kelong trip at present: 1315 (started by Terence), 1385 and 1458 (both started by me). There have been no comments on 1315 and 1385 since 1458 (this thread) was started.

As a precaution, I am keeping tabs on all three threads. However, there may be other comments in threads other then the three named above which I may not be aware of. If anyone has made comments relating to the kelong trip anywhere apart from the three threads named here, please let me know.

    Cheers,

    Ron Koh

  37. Hi Ron
Please include my name for transport (two ways). When must we remit the amount S$100 to the above DBS a/c?

    Thanks
    Fong

  38. Fong (#56):

    Silvester?! Is that you?

We can started accepting payment for the trip as soon as I hear from Terence re my comment at #48 and #51. Just require confirmation to be sure the $$$ does not end up in the wrong hands.

Have noted your need for land transport.

    Ron Koh

  39. Hi Ron

For better control and Corporate Governance, suggest that you request all to post confirmation and payment communications under one central thread #1458 for this event.

Simple and easier for you to manage and administer. Focus on your passions rather than trying to read three channels and reconcile any differences. Just a suggestion.

    Cheers,

  40. Dear Ron,
Do count 4 of usm (Wana Tay, Catherine Chan, Jennifer Ong & Pearlynn Tan) in for land transport. How much more difference we have to fork out? Do keep us posted.

Hope we dont need to pay much more extra – if $40 more, we might consider to drop out of the kelong trip.

    Much appreciated.

  41. Dear Pearlyn (#59) and anyone else who is concerned with the costs:

I wish the financial management aspects of this trip were more straightforward, but the truth is, it is not.

The S$100 we are asking participants (who need land transport to and fro) to pay is based on the following:

    1) Entrance fee to the Tg Leman Jetty: MR4.00 (about S$1.75);

    2) 2D/1N stay at Hotboys Kelong* (please see note at the bottom of thiscoment)(S$69.00), and

    3) Land transport to and from Tg Leman Jetty.

The charges can vary as follows:

    a)S$850 for a 40-seater coach.
    b)S$270 for a 10-seater minibus.
    c)S$320 for a 12 seater minibus.

If all seats in the coach/minibuses hired are taken, the land transport charges can vary between S$21.25 to S$23.23 per person. If not all seats are taken, which is likely, then the full cost of renting the coach or minibus (S$850/S$270/S$320) will still have to be paid.

That is, it does not matter if the coach has 40 passengers, 30 passengers or 25 passengers – the cost is still $850 for the whole coach. (At the moment, we have 36 people who indicated that they need land transport, and 23 whose responses are still pending).

If we have exactly 40 people going, the cost per person will be S$1.75 + S$69.00 + S$21.25 = S$92, leaving us a refundable margin of just +S$8.00. However, as we still do not know how many people need land transport – which is the most variable component in the costs involved – no one is able to give you an assurance that the additional cost will not be significantly higher, though that is highly unlikely.

One easy way out of this, which I am reluctant to do, is to simply restrict the trip to the first 40 people (or 50, 52, etc., making the full capacity of the coach plus one or two minibuses) who have registered AND paid up. That will mean that those who may invariably be late in making payments or are still in two minds – who frankly are not helping the situation – may have to find their own way or be left out. I don’t think we want that to happen.

If anyone has a better solution, I will be very pleased to hear from you.

    Terence:

Please let me have your reply to #48 and #51. let’s get the show on the road.

    Cheers,

    Ron Koh

    Note:

The cost of the 2D/1N stay includes the following:

    · ??Lodging;
    · ??Meals – We provide 5 meals a day, (Please note that food is halal) ??namely basic breakfast, fresh seafood lunch; fresh seafood dinner and simple supper;
    · ??All sea transport; including island hopping;
    · ??Free flow ice to keep your fish;
    · ??Free flow sotong bait;
    · ??Free flow bathing water;
    · ??Free flow coffee, tea and water; and
    · ??All of the kelong activities mentioned In Hotboy’s website that are provided free of charge.

  42. Admittedly, it’s a colossal & thankless task – involving coordinating/arranging land transport & with the Hotboys – to organise this kelong trip, certainly not for the faint-hearted. I am grateful to RonK for stepping up to volunteer.

Personally, if the cost has to go up when some thrill-seekers decide to pull out at the 11th hour, so be it. No one shd squabble over the extra $ the rest has to pay, not least when every item has already been so clearly worked out, accounted for and presented here.

    Mucho gracias, RonK……………

  43. Hi Ron,

I have been out of touch, due to my travel. Please go ahead and start a new thread for the payment. I shall get it monitored soon.

You may close this thread, by taking off the comments.

  44. Hi, all:

I started another thread (1473 – Kelong trip on 19/20 April: Now Open for Payment)to announce that payments for this kelong trip is now open.

To avoid confusion, I have closed this thread from further comments.

Please visit the new thread if you wish to make any comments pertaining to the trip to Hotboys Kelong.

    Have a nice day,
