Outdoor activities – social walk

A few members have indicated their interest in having regular activities like walking and cycling. Last meeting also highlighted our many well traveled members . we have a very varied group of people

1 full time retirees

2 partime retirees

3 above 45 and still gainfully employ.

Time and place is a challenge to us as all are not fully retired. So there is no common platform . We have to organise monthly or fortnighly SOCIAL WALK. W e need mass participation. Hopefuly from these informal activities U can find your group. Time and place cannot coincide for all. Please give yourselves sometime to meet and match. For DIY travel it is always 2 to go. For our activities I think we at least 10 and above. Any thing less will not be meaningful.  We need U to contribute ideas and be a ready partner to organise and lead

I propose we have our first walk -sungei buloh .Easy and accessible. Or cycle in one of the island. Please response and throw ideas.

If you like to travel. Throw me your ideas and we can form a group . We can consult our Elsie. She travel to many ULU places. No shopping and 5 star hotel. So many of U are season travellers and I am sure U can find KAKIS amongst us. We can plan a travel schedule for the year.

For a start I will co ordinate all these activites. Of course I need your response.  TIME is not on our side.  We are noted for KASI, KAISU AND KAI CHENG HU. It is too late now to KAxxxxx The clock is ticking furiously and we have to maximise our time. You are all financially capable. You have too much time on hand. This is the last call to find Kakis . We all have friends but it si always time and place that is not convienient. LAST CALL Please come out and connect. if u are a full time professional retirees how about being a professional co ordinator. This is for all our brothers and sisters. REMEMBER TIME IS NOT ON OUR SIDE. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL WE CANNOT WALK.

Iam very amazed that our retired school teacher can live on $500 in thailand. Terence is our expert and he live there. Perhaps he can conduct some talks for us. For those who are on Stretched Dollars U have to attend. I assure U the daily and monthly bills will not shrink. What goes up will not come down. For $500 U can have three meals in hawker centre(not food court) and one round trip on mrt.no feeder service. U have to walk. There is a food court near my working place. The prices were 3-3.50 Today  4-4.50.

For the younger ones Mr Gibson can offer financial investments and health talks. Health is wealth He is 47 but looks 37. I am not sure it is his health or wealth or both.

We are thankful to all the FOUNDERS who form this club. It is very timely as the population is fast aging . The Founders are all workingand hav e family. Lets support them by assuming more responsible  roles.

During the last two meetings I noticed almost all have beautiful black hair. Mine is complete white. Did I do something wrong! Finally I wish to congradulate all of U . U have done well by being financially capable. This is the ultimate goal. To retire comfortably. Well done ! I have a long way to go. No I am not young. I just happen to born slightly later than U. I do not plan to collapse behind the fast food counter or cleaning the void deck.  Please response.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

  1. I agree with Chow Weng that in getting SHC members to come together for a common activity such as cycling or walking, we need to consider availibilty of two groups, retirees and non retirees(working SHCs) seperately. For retirees, the activity could be held on weekdays since generally neither time nor date are major constraints. For working SHCs, we could fix the activity date at weekends.

For cycling, retirees could join me on my regular Monday morning rides. (See details in my earlier posting on ‘non competitive cycling’).
For working SHCs, may I propose Sat afternoon, at 3.30pm we gather at one venue once a month initially to kick off. If members find this activity convenient, meaningful and fun, we could increase it to twice a month. To ensure more members can participate in the first gathering ,we ride in a park, say Pasir Ris Park where riding is relatively safe and easy plus a beautiful seaside view.
Could members interested in cycling reply to this forum or email me at cwee99@singnet.com.sg.

  2. Yes, Sungei Buloh will be a good place for SH to start their first group trek though it may be rather difficult for those who do not drive to get there. McRitchie boardwalk would be easier to get to. Whichever we decide, we can round off the walk with a picnic where we can share our food and chat.
I too favour the idea of having Terence share his knowledge about living in Thailand. In fact, we can have short talks about a place that we can visit either on a longer basis like what Terence or our retired school teacher are doing or, somewhere where we can go and enjoy nature, the scenery etc at value for money prices. We can then round up the talk by fixing dates and details for publicity purposes to allow those who are keen to submit their names. I’ll be happy to help Chow Weng organise such talks and trips – only assisting role not main role as I have other commitments which require my attention. If Elsie and Ann (another avid traveller I believe)can offer their services too it would be great. I understand that we’ll have a group of seasoned travellers/organisers who will be competent to kick this off. Ok with you Chow Weng, Elsie and Ann? These are merely my suggestions.

  3. Hi Chow Weng
I’d like to participate the monthly or fortnighly SOCIAL WALK if they are on Saturaday or Sunday. If we cannot get 10, I propose you to set the minimum on 5 for the first walk.
Inform me if there are such meeting. My e-mail address is wcyeung28@hotmail.com
    Thanks

  5. Hi All SHC Members, this is Gibson.

As what was commented in the last 30th Dec 2005 by many members who had the opportunity to share about what is the minimum cost to stay in Spore.

The bottom line is Money not enough and Health not good and thus financial not ready.

As I’ve mention, I can share both lightly, for a start, I’ve share that in 1992 to 1995, I weight about 92 to 95 kgs. Very well build, but over size and prone to laziness. Unhealthy living habit. I’m at 185cm, it’s about 6 foot.

With the encouragement of my friend, and with the high cost in medical spending, It dawn on me to lead a better & healthier life style.

I begin to spend time and money investigating and investing in healthy living, from attending seminal, to usage of health products and reading up of many health related books.

Today, after four years, although I’m still learning, I realise that the three basic elements that sustain life falls down into:
Good nutricious food be it health supplement or good cooking, Clean Water that we consume and a enviroment that supply rich and oxydizes air.

And its from this three elements that effect our body either we are healthy or not.

“The code – You are what you eat, drink and breath” how true is this? – comments please!

You can call me a health enthusatic, but I’ll believe once you turn 45 years, the stage of health take a turn, so the keys is to continue your healthy living in this area, some of us may be there, then keep going, others who are borderline, this group have redefine your priority for better and those who fail, you can sit on your existing habits and wait for sickness to strike you or made a 180 degress change towards healthy living.

Every changes need efforts and encouragement from self and fellow shc members. For these I can help if you want to.

The code: “Health is Wealth” and if you have all the money and no health, where does this leads to? Of course if you have health, you can earn and made your wealth!

There is no right or wrong answer, the only solution is identify where we are now, and wnat to made a change for better healthy living and financaily adequate for now and ripe old age.

As how to create wealth, this I’m able to share as well too interm as create wealth through making your silent money work harder for you while you are retiring and working now.

For both the above, dorp me a line Hp: 90271398 or sms me; tan.gibson@gmail.com, I’ll be please to share with no obligation that you must participate, but be educate and better prepared with tools to face it.

    Best Regards
    Gibson Tan
