Dream and let your ideas come true

All SHC activities are organised by SilverHairsClub members, not external groups.  Todate, we have seen walking, cycling, IT classes, badminton, tennis, line and social dancing, fishing, flea mart, overseas travel, overnight somewhere, dinner & dance, talent-time, games day, bowling, business discussions, investment talks, cooking,  health groups, jobs and retirement village ideas.

Come, don’t be shy.  Big or small ideas.  Dreams or realities.  Talk with a fellow SHCian.  Still, not sure? Share under category "Reflections".

Every SHCian has the opportunity to lead an event or hobby.  You can be sure that there are many others with similar interests as yours.  I may be dreaming; but yours can be a reality.

  1. Hi Jassmine #34

Please don’t consider me a key player. As the original post is labelled ‘Dreaming”, I may have to look at all the pros and cons – like overheads besides rent, committing long work hours etc. Then there is the work of checking all stuff to see that they work, labelling etc.

Really don’t know if I will go into it. right now , it’s just dreaming. However I’m sure that others are following this thread to see where it goes….and you probably can find greater support from them.
Friends have advised me about the above after consulting them.

It’s good to explore all possibilities first.

  2. Hi Kathy @# 33

As you are a key player, it’s advisable for you to look at the shop and decide on its potential for the kind of trade we are both interested in doing. Generally it’s not a good idea to commit based on other people’s opinions/recommendations.

The visit tomorrow is exploratory. If there’s a phone no. to contact, I’ll try to find out the rental.

Will e-mail you after the visit.

  3. Hi Jassmine,

I don’t mean 1 hr survey. I meant meeting anytime between 11-12pm. Miscommunication.

Since you are going tomorrow with Terrence, simply tell us the details and review of the visit as well as the address, rent, period of contract etc. This will then make it unnecessary to plan another visit.

Since it is near Serangoon MRT, it sounds good. Waiting to hear from you and Terrence.

  4. Recently, long-tailed monkeys were having fun at binjai park until the AVA came with cages. In the cages hanged free bananas…….

And now, Terence is getting free lunch…………and a free banana too?

    Wa mah ai.

  5. Hi Terence @# 30

  7. Kathy & Terence

I assume the vacant shop will wait for us to come to a decision. lol.

Kathy,I can meet you on Fri if it is just for an hr (11 – 12 noon). But I think one hour is not enough to survey a shop and its environs.
    Let me know.

  8. Hi Terence and Kathy

Timing seems to be a problem if we are to meet this week. Perhaps I can meet you both separately.

Terence, we can meet tomorrow (wed 26th) at 10.30 or 11a.m. (if u prefer later time).

Kathy we can meet next week at a time convenient to us. The place I am interested in is a shop house in Lor Liew Lian. The locale is walking distance from Serangoon MRT.

Kathy if you are prepared to fork out $200 (or less) per month rental share, may be we can get another one or two persons to share the shop rental.

So Terence, do we meet tomorrow?

  9. Hi Kathy,

Both you and Jass should go ahead and plan to meet. Keep us informed, and we shd see if we can add a SHC strategy to your project. Have fun.

  10. Hi Jassmine, Terrence,

I will be free to take a look at the Lor Lew Lian place this Thur or Fri at around 11am-12pm. However, wonder how to meet? Jassmine can you suggest a easily found place cos I am not very familiar with that area. Thanks.

    Kathy

  11. Hi Kathy

Let me know when you are free to check out the Lor. Lew Lian shop (if you are interested). Am interested in this locale ‘cos it’s near to my place.

    Hi Terence and Andrew,

Tentative Wed. 26th appointment is cancelled. Hope there’s another opportunity.

  12. Hi again,

Jassmine, this Wednesday cannot make it due to prior appointment. Personally, I prefer Angmokio. But I have yet to find any suitable place to rent.

    Kathy

  13. Hi Jassmine, Terrence and WKT,

Sorry for the late replay. I am interested but don’t know if can commit for prolonged time as ability to pay rent is limited. If sales are good, OK. Else will try about 3-6 months. Further will be away in June, so someone else must mind the store.

Trouble is I have no car, so have to consider out of the way places. Also hoping rent is lower than $200.

Thanks for the interest shown. Jassmine is the place you mentioned with high traffic?
WT, like Steven has mentioned, what to do if it rains.

    Kathy

  14. Hi Jassmine

I am keen to have look. Is this Wednesday (26 March) or Thursday afternoon around 3:30pm convenient for you?

Please sms me the location and time/date confirmation to meet.

    Cheers,

  15. Hi Terence @#16

Kathy has not replied so I don’t know if she’s interested in that locale. If she’s, I hope we could go on Wed 26 about 10.30 a.m, explore it’s potential and have a look at the lunch-time crowd. Over coffee I hope to hear more of her ideas and see if they coincide with mine.

    Let’s wait for her response.

  16. Hi Kathy and Jassmine,

I would like to join you when you meet. I will be in Singapore until the D&D. My interest is to see how SHC can make your business project a success.

  17. Hi Kathy @#12

I have had this idea of selling good, used goods for quite sometime.

There is an HDB shop for rent at Lor. Lew Lian (near Serangoon MRT). Are you keen to explore it’s potential? I will be interested in sharing the shop space for about $200/mth.

Let me know. We could go there for survey and coffee.

  18. Hi Terence/Wong KT,

The only problem is forsee is heavy rain. Alamak where got shelter lah ?? Where to hide?

The 1st flea mkt was blessed with Sunny weather. what if 2nd,
    FLEE market when thunderstorm comes.

    Any contingency plans ?

  19. Kathy @ #12

Terence and I share the same dream for SHC.

Would you like to explore the idea of organising the flea market on a routine basis. We start with a monthly physical market. We can start at Scorebot but not restricted to this location in the future as the concept grows. Each physical market is for three days (Fri to Sun) and run as an event.

The sales however is on-going and supported on SHC on-line flea market portal. We have a flexible payment system accepting both cash, card and on-line virtual cash. Very important is that we have also an auction system which is excellent for collectibles and limited stock items. Delivery can be by post, collection or OTC (over-the-counter) at the flea market event.

You cannot get a better cost structure anywhere in real or virtual space in Spore. This effort is continued to be supported by SHC and is designed as a Social Enterprise for members to realize their small biz dreams.

A very significant and retail innovation is that we have negotiated to make available sourcing of products from hundreds of local vendors on a non-cash, consignment basis.

This idea means that we can organize a flea market as a lease-buy-back basis. Members can rent an entire product line on consignment and test market almost risk-free. If it is profitable, the member can “buy” into the biz and grow.

You can’t do this anywhere in the world as far as I know unless your father owns the shop. Now you can with this SHC Social Enterprise project.

  20. Seriously, I am dreaming of a small shop in the heartland where traffic is high, selling all used goods. Not unlike a Cash converter shop except we don’t buy in. I am sure there are plenty of SHC members with stuff that still work who are wishing to sell them. Anyone also dreaming and willing to share rent of small place (yet to find!)?
Any comment also welcome. Especially pros and cons of such a venture.

  21. Hi andrew yeung,

Good to see that you are able to come for our
    D n D and as a lion dance leader.

We had been missing you a long time. To busy making $ with mah jong or hibernating.

  22. Hi Mary
Today I saw a pretty lady smiling happy in the ST (I’m serious this time, not joking)
I wonder when can I taste the dishes make by this lady, must be very delicious.

  23. Dream, when you try to fulfill it, you will be so exhausting. When you achieved it, you will be so emptying. Is it suitable for SHC?

Don’t take it seriously, just joking (working so boring today)

  24. “Mouthsful”?

Haha, i aint talking abt the toothless mouth.

Perhaps the most sung moonie song is Theresa Teng’s “The Moon Represents My Heart” (Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin) which is as much an affront to Mooncake festival as the word “Fu” is turned upside-down to signify the arrival of fortune – stupid to the core.

More relevant ones may be “Moonlight Serenading a Small Nite” (Yue Guang Xiao Ye Zu), “The Moon is Like a Lemon” (Yue Er Xiang Lemon) and even the canto one “Moonlight Shining on the Lake” (Yue Kong Kong, Jiu De Tong)……….

  25. RonaldW, Terence encourages you to dream and you dream immediately, you siao huh? Wait till yr boss sees you dreaming with yr thumb in yr nose digging then you kena fried cuttlefish…..

Btw, a ship captain doesnt own the vessel as much as Mr Mangali who jagas the bank doesnt own the bank.

Haha, MaryC, stuffed with mooncakes in yr mouth you still can sing mooncake songs…….you steady, mdm.

  26. Eh, Ron Wie, what did I volunteer for? Only to make paper lanterns if somebody will teach me or carry one .
Hahaha, now that you mention it, I just might, hehe. ;-)
Why not just organise a cruise to nowhere and everyone brings some mooncakes? And carries lantern and sings mooncakes songs (are there any?)
Or even organise a mooncake making session? I can’t make. I can only eat.

  27. Yes Terence, I like your encouragement to dream, like you I am a dreamer too and hopefully with SHC working together they will other to join us to make dreams come true.

Our dream, SHC Mooncake Festival maybe can become like the Balloon Festival of Albuqueque someday in year 2010 ?

So far venues considered are 1. Bali lane, 2. Waterfront further away from Cityhall
    3. TongKang Cruise along the rivermouth either book the tongkang or get Someone who owns a big yacht , (trying to find a Ship captain i know if this can be possible)

Price to be as reasonable as possible, depending on the event.

Volunteers so far : Andrew Kuan, Mary Chan ( hope not asking for ad fees now that you are turning professioanal )

So anymore dreamers, realists who want to make this dream light up ?
