  1. Hi Ronald Wie,

It is very THRILLING and EXCITING rafting and I strongly encouraged SHcians who are medically fit to join them.

The last time,I rafted was in New Zealand, somewhere around Queenstown region.

Told the guide,I had slipped disc,OK to raft?

He said OK but after the rafting experience ,thank gd,nothing bad happened and our canoe did not capsized due to co-ordinated tedious rowing .

The waters in the river were swift flowing and that adds to the excitement as our canoe swerved the huge boulders along the rapids and then a sudden drop.

If not for my recovered slipped disc, I would definitely join all of you to this EXCITING adventure by Rafting n Caving.

  2. Hi Ron,

I am a SAFRA member too. Where did you get this news? Can you find out about the tour operator for the rafting? I may need this for a POSSIBLE trip for the SHC. But it is good if anyone can go and feedback about the rafting.
I have been to Gua Tempurong and it is quite interesting. The communists had a very large base camp thee, with all their meeting places etc. You can even go to the other side of the mountain through the cave. Bring along a torch. It is essential, preferably waterproof and use sandals.
My only concern is that there trip is by overnight bus to Ipoh in the morning, travel to rafting checkpoint in morning and afternoon visit to Gua Tempurong. Dinner and stay in Ipoh abd back home next morning. A bit rushed for me.

  3. Hi Charles only saw this on Safra website so have to find out more about thr raft operator.

Steven thanks for your feedback and views. Alicia maybe you can feedback on this trip, rafting here, how safe and what to expect.

Am still considering signing up. Cheers

  4. Hi Ronald

I love white-water rafting. Unfortunately, your dates coincide with my other trip. I’m flying back on 18 May.

Please keep me in the loop for the next river-rafting adventure. Btw, what grade is Sungei Kampar please?

  5. Hi all,

Please take note the above trip is organised by SAFRA I just want to highlight that there is such a trip and hope it can benefit anyone who is keen on such a trip.
Of course I don’t rule out the chance that i might be keen to go and if time permits.

For more info, Eleanor, check this website, it grade this river as Class I-III. There is also a hot spring, old castle and of course Ipoh Hor Fun, Tau Siah Piah ,etc.

You can alternatively get to the website and see about going there in your own smaller group. I am sure they accommodate such a request.

By the way Eleanor, where are you flying back to, is it Australia ? Maybe you can highlight such trips that are available there.

  6. Hi Ronald

#3 – rafting is defintely out for me. Anyway guide said that it was closed due to accidents and that was 2 years ago. So
unable to offer you any feedback. Take care.

    Cheers, alicia

  7. Hi Ronald

Don’t comtemplate. You should try it out if you have not gone river rafting before. It’s really fun. Just like in any sport, there is danger. But from the video on Sungei Kampar, the river does not seem very challenging so it’s fine for amateur rafters.

I’d be flying back from Russia. It’s a mission trip so nothing much to brag about. Sorry to disappoint :(

  8. Hi Ronald,

…But from the video on Sungei Kampar, the river does not seem very challenging so it’s fine for amateur rafters. It is
sub sub sui compare to the one I went to NZ,the rivers were very swift flowing and also a lot of huge boulders along the way that add to the chee kit ” EXCITEMENT”

If not for my recovered slip disc since 15yrs.ago , I will go for another Thrilling Rafting Adventure.Fun leh!

I dare NOT take the risk of another rafting for fear of boat capsized and smash against boulders that my backbone may nnot be able to take that impact becos slipped disc will leave me totally paralysed.- warn by my
    specialist doctor.

All others without medical problem are strongly encouraged to
raft out to enjoy the thrill adventure at Sungei Kampar near to home than NZ.

  9. Hi Alicia, Eleanor

Thanks for the comments, I am game for most things but at this age we have to start doing it fast. Even Disney rides may require medical clearance before some of us will be allowed to take the rides.
Eleanor, tell us about anything exciting/interesting there in Russia, and how to sign up for such a mission.

  10. Hi Ronald

This will be my first trip to Russia. Definitely not a sightseeing tour. Hopefully it will not be too cold out there. The past winter had been awfully bitter.

Are you interested in joining our group for this trip? There are about 12 of us. We are leaving for Moscow on 6 May, then Abkhazia the following week. Back to Spore on 18 May. If you are keen, then you have to get the visa done immediately. Understand the Russian Embassy takes about 1 week to issue the visa.

You can text me at my work number 8123-8542 and I’ll put you in touch with the organizer.

  11. Hi Eleanor

Thanks for the info but cannot travel now maybe when I am not working.
Maybe you can post more info, the terms and conditions, etc, here for others like Steven Chan who is keen on such mission work. I would prefer a longer term stint of 1 to 3 months, if the total cost is manageable.

Have fun and let us know more of your trip and future missions.

  12. Hi Eleanor, Steven and all

Actually my first time water rafting and I can say that Kampar River water rafting good for those who want to try some adventure. At this time due to the water level it is around grade 2 to 3 (low level) and during the rainy seasonn it can go up to level 4 and 5 which is really fun but also risky. Was fun water rafting and learned something new that is not offered elsewhere. That is body rafting using your lifevest when you do fall in the water, which I did, twice but it was fun.

We went to Mygopengresort.com and they have a sort of adventure resort (with facilities, chalets, dining halls, etc) with a lot of organised activities for caving, water abeseiling, trekking, canoeing, fruits/flower hunting, etc.

Other nearby attractions are Cameron Highlands,Tempurung caves and other temple caves, Ipoh town food and 7 golf courses with reasonable SPA packages. Hot springs , Tambun has been closed and new attractions are Lost World Sunway more for children. A reasonable hotel is Excelsior with an international breakfast inclusive and they also have a dinner buffet with live music at M$33 till 10pm and diners can stay till later.

Good adventure getaway, and definitely more time needed for more trekking, caving and water sports, golf, etc.

Heard there is water rafting too in Trengganu, Taman Negara. A good package maybe is to go to Kuantan for windsurfing where the wind is really strong and to Redang for diving, fishing and boating ?

Average cost per person with everything in food, tranport and hotel, and adventure is around S$100 or so per day.
