  1. Hi Yew Kwong,

My butts has since recovered from the Pengarang Cycling. Sign me in.

Btw, are we cycling to Changi pointand back ?

I LOVE the SHC company and the BEAUTIFUL scenery along the coastal route, It is so INVIGORATING and “INSPIRING” and NOT forgetting the Changi famous yummy yummy Nasi Lemak.

I yearn for it. The thought of the nasi lemak sets my stomach
    ” growling. ”

See you there with others and thanks for organising this HEALTHY Cycling exercise.

    With Appreciation,
    SC

  2. Caroline Gee, so the BIG day is here! I can imagine your excitement. I have 2 more months to go before my girl’s big day and I’m already having such fun shopping for the things.
Congratulations to you and your daughter. May they have lasting happiness forever!

  3. Steven

I am sure you are looking forward to your daughter’s big day too. I too wish your daughter and her hubby-to-be everlasting love and happiness :)

We better cabot. This is the cycling thread hehe!

  5. Hi Caroline n Mary

Wld both of U nid the cycling brigade 2 chauffeur the brides n bridegrooms 4 the grand occasions? M sure we (especially the gals) are ready 2 ride them on the road especially aft the recent trip 2 Pengarang. Caroline can attest my words.

  6. Hi Caroline

    Congrats.

Send my warmest regards to The Senior District Judge and family at The Flute, esp their daughter the owner.

    Cheers,

  7. Hi Caroline

I remember you as the very good singer. Hope that you can still remember me. At Pasir Ris Park that evening?
Just want you to know that you are very blessed and here’s wishing your daughter and her hubby a very blessed and wonderful marriage.

    All the best, JanetH.

  8. Hi Janet

How could I forget you. Remember we talked the whole night at the Pasir Ris cafe after the Pot Luck party.

    Thanks very much.

Thanks Andrew. Aiyoh my daughter booked the restaurant because the ambience is good and the food is nice. Dont know who the owner is.

Yew Kwong, I think my daughter has arranger her carriage already lah. Maybe if I decide to get married again, then we can have the cyclists flanking the bridal car – hahahaha! its only a big joke – in Chinese we say miao xiang tian kai (correct or not?)

  9. Hello Yew Kwong, share share hor, this thread becomes a wedding thread. I too want to congrat Caroline being a mother-in-law soon and wish your daughter & her hubby a very Happy marriage. Carly, when your turn comes, we got the whole gang of cyclist to ding dong bell for you….ha…ha…ha… ;)

    Ah Nee

  10. Caroline dear, thanks. I really like you. You are very, very nice and adorable. Hope to meet you once again. I will pray for a glorious weather this Saturday.

A good day to you, Janet.

  11. Hi Caroline at #18

Most welcome and blissful marriage/occasion for your daughter and family.

SDJ Mr Richard Magnus’s family owns the fine dining restaurant at Fort Canning since 2004. His daughter, a qualified lawyer runs the business.

We attended the e-Government course together in 2003 and we become family friends.

He was also the “priest” who blessed us during our 25th Silver wedding anniversary in 2003.

Warmest regards and all the best this Saturday.

  12. Thanks Oily and Neely for the good wishes. I am looking forward to the big day.

Yes Oily, then I will have time to attend more SHC functions.

Thanks Janet. You are a very nice lady yourself. Glad to have met you. Looking forward to meeting you again for lunch at Annalakshmi next Saturday.

OIC. Thanks for the info Andrew.

Thanks Yew Kwong for keeping silent about us using your thread :)

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  13. May you and family be blessed with wonderful weather, excellent human and relationship warmth and sincerity, Caroline. So be it !

    Warmest regards

  14. Dear Yew Kwong & Caroline

YK may hv 2use your thread to join, in wishing Oh Carol, the lovely mum whose lovely daughter is getting married tis Saturday. Alice and I are happy for you n your daughter in this wonderful event, once in a life-time.

    Rom n Alice Lai

  15. Thanks Andrew :)

    Ron & Alice,

Thanks very much for your lovely message. I hope my daughter and her husband will have a happily ever after like both of you :D

  16. Hi guys!

Would like to come for cycling this Saturday if the weather holds.

Just got back from JB and we were rained out the whole afternoon. Still enjoyed the good cheap food and shopping for “tau sar piahs” and other eatables.

    Caroline and Mary: Congrats!

It may too late for Caroline’s; but for Mary’s, JB has great photo studios and wedding dress shops for a fraction of what you pay in Singapore!

  17. Hi YK,

Me too borrowing your thread to wish Caroline on her daughter’s wedding this weekend. Congrats Caroline on this special occasion. You must be the most hip mother-in-law that nite..he.he..

Wei, wei, Terence why dont put one “Wedding Bell Announcement” thread? not for SHCians themselves but for their sons or daughters lah…ha.ha..then those soon-to-be MIL or FIL can have all their blessings wish there. Just thinking aloud. :)

If I hv no other program, I will be there.

    Cya!
    Suzhang

  18. Yew Kwong,
cycling escorts eh? Thanks.Everyone will have to ‘ding, ding, ding,’ all the way to Ireland then. Hehehe.
Ya lah, save it for Caroline Gee’s turn. ;-)

  19. Kenneth Tan,
Thanks for your suggestion, but my daughter has already booked D’Gio and everything is under control. The only one not quite prepared is myself. Still looking for a dress with a ‘sexy, plunging neckline’ leh. ;-)
On second thoughts, better not. My future in-laws might be scandalised, hehe. Must look for something tamer, perhaps a ‘Suzy Wong’ qi pao.
    Know where to get one?

  20. Dear Caroline,

Let me add to the list of people congratulating you on your daughter’s wedding. Many good wishes for a wonderful wedding and a milestone for you as MIL! Enjoy.

  21. Kenneth,Lina, Sue Chang, Catherine Yeo,

thanks for your congratulatory messages. Am very happy to be a MIL (borrow from you Cath Y).

I’ve got two outfits made for the occasion. A cheongsam and a two piece suit. Cant wait to parade in them. Not hip but a vain mother in law. hahaha!

Kenneth – you are not too late for Caroline’s because it will not be happening for a long time yet! hehehe!

Mary C – there is a shop at Centrepoint that has a wide range of cheongsam. Lovely embroidery and plain ones. Spoilt for choice but a bit pricey though. But then I have not been there for a while so I am wondering if the shop is still around.

  22. Caroline,
I know that shop, but like you, I don’t know if it’s still there. I looked in at Avana in Shaw Centre, but there weren’t any good pieces. I was informed that more new ones would be in later this month. Will go again soon.
I already have some cheongsams to choose from, for the day. It’s the evening piece now. Then I will need one for the reception over the other side. It’ll be quite cold for me, so I don’t really know what to wear. Will have to think of a wrap for the cold.

  23. Mary, you can still wear a slinky & sexy gown with a nice woollen shawl that will keep you warm in Ireland. If the heaters are working, then you dont have to wrap it round so tightly hahaha!

    Have fun shopping :)

  24. “The only one not quite prepared is myself. Still looking for a dress with a ’sexy, plunging neckline’ leh”

Like that huh, you’ll never be prepared…..where to find a plunging dress for a sexy neck?

I dont know where Suzy Wong has left her qi pao but I can tell you where she is selling ma piu bo which you may wish to buy & cut into size for yr qi pao………….

  25. Hahaha!!

Ah Tai Kor Tim never fails to amuse us… this last was a classic!!

Dear Mary… I’m a budget person and I’ve seen some nice pieces at Tang’s: it’s a shop right inside the far end on the right of the ladie’s department on the second floor. But, you may know that already.

Hey, this cycling thread is being hijacked!!??@@XX!

  26. Kenneth,
Ya, Tim’s comments inject some humour into this website don’t they?
Hm, I had forgotten about Tang’s. They may have some interesting ones. Thanks.

    Apologies Yew Kwong, hee.
Anyway, I might turn up for the cycling. May be only. Still apprehensive after the last time.

  27. Wonder why Kenneth drifted into the ladies department at Tangs and if the grapevine is to be believed, he was at the lingerie section, trying out………..the mystery thickens. Must catch him soon to find out……….he is a very honest man, he wont tell lies.

    Folks, dont go away…………….

  28. Helen

I just dyed my hair yesterday and I think I got the wrong “red” we will see whose hair will be redder (haha)

We got another Helen , She may join us tomorrow.

    See u

  29. Helen

I was just worry that u did not know how to come this this “comment” to write.

There are alot of comments in your profile box and was wondering if u are reading it.

When I send my profile, I did not know that other members can send me msg…. so see u

  30. Ken @ # 38

Tim, you shouldn’t let the cat out of the bag.

Now what are we going to do with our flagship flea vendor

“Ken’s Crossdresssr Specials and Transexual Lingerie”

Is it true? I heard that you are the new supermodel and the cover pin-up for his brand. Make sure that you get a shave and makeover from Susan.

Are you recruiting your fellow celebrities for the catwalk?

  31. Hahaha!!

    Tim and KT

If you’re married and in the ladies’ section of Tangs, you have a valid reason (to be there).

If you’re not attached… and an SHC, I mean, senior, then you have a lot of explaining to do.

If you’re not attached, and a younger SHC (45 – 50 if I get that right from Oi Cheng), then you are:

    1. A peeping tom

    2. Secret admirer of the other sex

    3. Collector of lacey mementoes

    4. Waiting for girlfriend in fitting room, lah!

  32. Well said, well travelled, well seasoned, well balanced and highly matured, contented and happily married gentlemen, Kenneth Tan and Charles Wee.

Nothing slimy, otherwise there will be no male gynaecologists, dress/hair designer, and various professionals.

As Charles suggested, Kenneth, start a new thread for greater challenging discussion in depth and substance.

    Cheers,

  33. A @ #50

One question is haunting me. Die, die also must ask. Why did you change your posting name to
“KYL, Andrew Kuan” It wasn’t like this at first.

    Long like all your sentences.

    Hmmm…..
    “WKT, Wong Kong Thean”

What do you know. Mine’s longer than yours. Even without my christian name. Hee hee

(All the more surprising. Aspirants for high office in a republic should not promote their christian name as a reminder and throwback to an era of servile subjugation to the imperialist colonist crown. No John, Andrew, Harry …..)

  34. KT

Around mid April 2008, Terence Seah (TS), our SHC Administrator enquired about who is “KYL” a few times and I replied him also several times.

In one of the threads, I mentioned that I have been addressed as a) Kuan Yoke Loon and KYL esp when young, b) Andrew Kuan during working, among grassroots and political circles ,c) Kuan Yoke Loon Andrew in all documents.

Sometimes KYL in some circles. Am comfortable with all.

It is TS who graciously changes my posting name to KYL, Andrew Kuan. It is fine with me as I am easy with it, to be known/addressed that way.

I accept the Christian name given by my school teacher, Miss Shum in 1963. It means bold, courageous.

The following year in 1964, I learned one precious lesson and practical wisdom : the art of forgiveness to heal, to set free, recover, discover, grow, strengthen and develop further – all in the journey of serendipity.

Thank you for your interests and asking. Hope above suffices.

    Warmest regards

  35. Hi KT, AndrewK,

I changed the author name of AndrewK to avoid misunderstanding when the initial KYL is used and quoted by Andrew. I didn’t know that KYL refered to Andrew kuan. Hope this helps.

    Terence Seah

  36. Our Mandarin and Chinese dialect speaking Singaporeans also know me as Andrew Kuan, ??? or ???.

KT, hope this give you a deeper understanding that discerning Singaporeans are able to engage, connect and relate.

On the grounds, am pleasantly surprised at first when the Chinese/dialect speaking Singaporeans call me in all three : Andrew Kuan, ??? and ??? (plus ??).

  37. Kenneth & KT, it will be fun if all the 3 of us – and CharlesW (the ah pow of pow piao – pls see the Cha Bo thread) put on the T-back & G-string and parade the length of Bali lane as we hold the next FleaMart there. Even HarryLeeWee will rise fr the dead to applaud, forgive all and renew his severed ties with the orginal Harry.

Terence, luckily you didnt change it to “Kuan Men” (mandarin) which mnens “closed shop” and that wd hv been very “tai gat lai si” (canto)……..

  38. Tim @ #56

With SHC, the likely chance is that the dancers will have to tip the spectators.

Think big. Wait till the curtain’s goes up in the new IR for Ken’s Revue. Introduction is by Ken dressed only in a bow tie and top hat. nothing else.

I will focus on being Feng Shui master to Asia’s dragon ladies. Min networth of USD $1B need apply.

If Nina can, you can too.

    Hee-hee

  39. Ter @ #53

    Heaven sports with us.

If only you put “L” in front of KYL, today I may be Hon Member of Kg Glam; Tim the Min of Law; and Ken, the Min of Affairs with Women. And you, MCYCS. Of course.

The world will be crime free. No laws will be broken since everything is pemissable.

There is no poverty. Since all our money will be returned to us. Let the later generations earn their own.

There will be no need for CPF since politician jobs and titles go to the highest bidders. And the winners have to fund their own Ministry’s budget.

  40. Hi KT

Have much better better choice and taste.

Around 1993, had the current Attorney General Prof Walter Woon (WW) as our GOH/speaker at CIMA EGM. Know many quality lawyers personally.

WW is well balanced, contented and is happily married. This is sort of people one would like to engage, connect and relate with.

Kenneth Tan is also happily married and contented so are you, right. So be discerning, let us not mix excellent and good people with ……those who are easily envious, jealous and snares builder(s).

36th strategy – ignore and avoid is the best.

    Cheerio!

  41. ‘happily married’ should not be used to tie that with definition of ‘a good n excellent’ ppl … ….. is really SUCK

mentioned not once but many times (in other thread as well) … it could hurt many others feeling…..

  42. Yew Kwong Tai Kor

    Reporting :

All those listed for cycling came, except for Kenneth Tan and Mary Chan.

Two additional cyclists are : Thomas Goh and new SHC member, Raymond (didn’t get his surname). Both came with their own bike.

  43. Lily#62

I must apologise to all cyclists who turned up… I did, too… but must have been a little late… around 4.40pm. The CTE/KPE route was jammed.

I tried looking around the nearby bike stations but could not find the group. In the end, I cycled to all the bike stations but to no avail. By then, I was all pumped out and a little glad that I did not catch up with you guys: I may not have made it to Changi and back!

Well, until next time… and, I’ll be early this time!

  44. Hi Kenneth,

We did not cycle all the way to Changi. Instead, we cycled just the usual haunt in case you turned up and cannot find us. Furthermore, got so many new SHC lady members waiting to meet you. See you the next round.

  45. Hi All

Glad ydy’s affair was a gd one. M sori tat I cant turn up as I got prior appt rearg at short notice.

M sori 2 tat I din update the registration list. Mary hd informed tat she cant come. Thomas Goh hd informed he was coming. Kenneth, hope u catch the gals in the nx rd.

Tks 2 Lily, Dolly n all others 4 coordinating this session in my absence.

  46. Jane Wong,
Just ignore such ‘verbal diarrhoea’. Who knows what unhappy secrets he harbours about his own marriage?
Yes, Lily is right. It is INSENSITIVITY of the highest degree.
    What a creep!

  47. Hi Andrew KYL at #52,

….Around mid April 2008, Terence Seah (TS), our SHC Administrator en quired about who is “KYL” a few times and I replied him also several times. In one of the threads,
I mentioned that I have been addressed as a) Kuan Yoke Loon and KYL esp when young,

    Just to ponder.

    1) When I first saw your name with initials KYL, the 1st. thing that pops in mind is KKC,the infamous ” Ku Klux Klan.”

    2) Or are you “mimicking” our famous always ALERT PM, LKY ?
Andrew K, Sorry leh! LKY is still not = KLY leh.
    Take no offence, compatriot.

To share, I too had my funny moments though.
That reminds me of my own initials, Steven, CSF, my classmates made FUN of me n say that it reps
Cannot Store Fat and it is really TRUE.

From young, till now,I NEVER had been FAT at all.
When am I going to be FAT ?
Only Gd knows. Ha! ha!Perhaps, when I am reborn in my next life.

How I arrive at my present Christian name Steven, although I ain’t a Christian but a Buddhist.

    Why ?

My friends find it easier for them to call or remember by the name Steven and it NOT my official name either.

At 1st.my Xtian name was inspired by the movie Lawrence of Arabia and I proudly told my classmates to call me Lawrence.
See how easily we,teens are influenced by actors or actresses.

Then change to Horatio after reading the history on the achievements of Admiral Horatio Nelson.
Then,1 day my eldest brother made fun of my X tian name,
Horatio . To him it sounds like Horrible. Then made a change to Steven and yet my classmates can turn the table around and spelt it as STEP HEN. To the Chinese community ,it is
” VERY SWEI ” and for a hen to be stepped on. SI LIAO!

See,there is NO end to it and I decided to STICK to it as Steven NOT Step Hen.

Next time, when you meet me pls. would appreciate when you call me as Steven NOT STEP HEN or YAI KAI Chan in Cantonese dialect. LoL.

  48. Steven,

#67 (2). That’s putting it so wrongly. KYL is NOTHING close to LKY, who is a great man who does great things, yet doesn’t boast about it. Even if he does, he has every right to do so. Have you ever heard of the “wanna be” syndrome? Hee.

There is one thing I dislike and that’s ‘playing one-upmanship’. Even more so when one doesn’t have any basis for it other than, “When I was….” and “I used to…”. That really sounds like a “has been” don’t you think?

We are all simple, humble, hopefully, ;-) people here, looking for like minded friends. We are not here to boast about oneself. There is always Hong Lim Green to do that and perchance, there may be a few crickets willing enough to stop their cacophony to listen. Haw haw haw!

    tO ALL WHO ARE GUILTY:

While I’m in this mood, I might as well bring up the matter of “happily married” etc. I think, perhaps mistakenly, that the majority of the members here are either single, divorced or perhaps not quite so happily married. So anyone who has it in his intention to make us feel small or uncomfortable about it, has no place here.

It shows a totally unkind, insensitive and thoughtless attitude, which should be shot down. Go somewhere else to do your mean and boastful thing, not here.

Byeee. I’m off to Sentosa with some buddies from SHC. We believe in having a good time, but not at the expense of others.

  49. Haha Mary C, I like especially the first part of #68 :)

I am back. My daughter’s wedding went on fabulously. Her gown was beautiful, the make-up artist and hair stylist, caterers, florists, musicians, weather and guests were fantastic. The service at Flutes was excellent.

Everyone had a good time. It doesnt matter that some guests were singing off key or out of tune after they had too much to drink.

I am sure you are looking forward to your daughter’s wedding. All the best to you and your family and enjoy :)

  50. Hey Caroline,new MIL ;-)
Great that your daughter’s wedding went very well. Oh yes, I am looking forward to my daughter’s wedding and I hope hers will be smooth sailing and fabulous too.
Thank you for the good wishes.

  51. Well, MaryC, do give him a milligram of credit for being foolhardy enough to defy his weight and lack of substance & credentials to try for the Highest office, opening himself to scrutiny which we read, laughed and shook our heads. And now he starts calling out names simply becos he saw him at a function. Heee, like that huh, the kopisohs are also friends of George Bush and Bill Gates.

Ah Kuan was almost hauled in at Qui men Kuan (Gate of Hades) and so he has yet to recover from the shock. Obviously insecured, he seeks association with people up there. When he fails to achieve this objective, he’ll climb up the Bali Lane tree outside Scorebot, sit there to feel higher than high, upper than up and wont come down even if his contented & happily married wife coaxes him with bananas and a lollipop danz, waving at him his dream attire of a President……………

  52. Hee Tim. It always gets me in stitches when I read your hilarious ‘short stories’. They conjure up images so ludicrous I laugh out loud.
Thanks. I’m off to class now. Hope there’s more laughs later.
