  • Date : June 27 2008
  • Time : 7pm – 8pm

  • Material Cost: $10/pax for Crystal Angel

I am with SHC for a few month and had joined them in the cycling and walk events .

SHC members have been posting alot of interesting events like Travelling, Durian Fest , Dancing and even Soccer.   I would like to take this opportunity to introduce "Craft Classes" into the SHC event.

I make crystal accessories , bags from old pairs of Jeans , brighten up my white shoes with fabric paint….  I met some members at the Bukit Batok walk who find my craft very interesting.

These are some of the craft we can start with:

  1. Swarovski Crystal Angel ( very ideal gift for Christmas)
  2. Swarovski Crystal Butterfly
  3. Fabric painting on white shoe
  4. Mini bag from old pair of Jeans

My creations (including Crystal Angel pieces) can be viewed here –

  2. Hi Karen Thio,

Frankly speaking,I was quite AMAZED on your display of hundreds of crystal accessories @ Hans. And not forgetting the cute jeans hand bag you were carrying.

It is SO GOOD of you to set up a post to SHARE with SHCians your knowledge of making crystal ware accessories and recycled jeans being transformed to a handbag.

  3. Hi Karen,

I am impressed that being new, you have shown yourself as able to manipulate yourself on this website. Many others have difficulties. Well done.

As an Event Organiser, you can edit your post from time to time, especially on the registration list. Be reminded, you could have used the old thread, and not put up a new one. Your old thread is still open.

Do have fun. Wish you all the best with Crystal Angel Crafts.

  4. Hi Karen,
I was so engrossed with the origami that I missed meeting you. So much for being a ‘mak kaypoh’ :-(
I enjoy craftwork very much and would like to participate in your craft session on the 27th of June.
Thank you for starting this. :-)

  5. Hi Karen,

  6. Hi Karen,

Thank you for your precious time imparting the Crafts skill to us. I am particularly interested in the Mini bag from old pair of Jeans. Your pair of Jean you wore on that day at SHC gathering, hmmmm…very impressive. I would love to learn how to beautify & brighten my old pair of Jeans from you. Cheers :)

  7. #1 Marg Tian

It is u that give me the idea of posting the Craft Classes – U give me so much compliments on that day on my bag/shoes/crystals. I used to teach among my own friends. After discussing with Terences and his great encouragement ,I go ahead with the post and get a very good fed back for my 1st Event.
I forgotten your name and am hoping that u will send a comment to me (haha).

Thanks u for sign in. See u.

    #2 – Steven Chan

So much compliments from u and so happy. Steven, u can come down and have fun with the Crystal. U can teach the kids that u are mentoring , instead of using crystal , u can use plastic beads – cost is about 10-20 cents per pcs depending on what u material use. My niece enjoyed making it so much and she was kind of sharing it with her classmate.

My sis in Sydney acutally make it for the school fund-raising (plastic beads angels).

Let me know and I will buy some of the plastic beads for u if u are interested.

    Thanks u

    karen

  8. Hi Karen

I saw your bag & jean you wore during the gathering and am impressed by your innovative ideas. Am interested to learn. Please include me.

    Thanks,
    Suzhang

  9. Terences

Being a new member, I am not allow to do editing on the post.

I did another post is because…. I actually test out the “market” when I send out the 1st post, few members showed their interest in the craft but since I did not put in the date/time, they did not confirm on the course. Few day after the 1st posting , I have Dolly to help with the editing on the post with Date/Place. Since this is my first time and I am rather confused who is coming down for the class…..so i put up a new post with date/place.

Hope I explained myself and sorry for the convenient. Will have Yew kwong or Dolly to teach me edit if u allow.

Still have to thanks u for your “twice” encouragement” here (haha)

    Karen Thio

  10. Dolly

Believe it or not….. WHen I make the “Lucky God” for my Mom and Dad. Both strike Lottery – I cant remember how much but Dad strike more than Mom.

I am never in good luck for ToTo – but i got $20 win twice in a row (haha)

soooooo – want to be the first to register ???

    karen

** Your Hokkien English very difficult to u/stand leh….

  11. Ah Nee

Will post on the website unless I can get the Saftey pin, but I got another design with some other accessories.

WIll bring the items down on the 27/June and let see what the member want me to teach on the next class.

Go People Park Center – Mix & Match – browse thru the accessories and u will be surprise how creative u can be.

    karen

  12. SuZhang

I will not be teaching the Jean/Bag yet. I have to teach something small and easy for the first time.

As we need the sewing machine, I am also thinking of how to conduct the class

Will discuss with the members on the day of the craft and see who can come up with better idea.

This coming class – I will be teaching “Crystal Angel” – did u see that crystal that day??

I cant post the picture cos it is too small.

    karen

  13. Aiyo, Karen, I always tot hor.. my SingHok beri stylo mylo leh.. but u said bo ming, i vry chek sim leh..

Paiseh2, I hor vry the ‘???? le, so hv give tis a miss la..

  14. Dolly

Since u on line – can add Mary Chan & Marg Tian name on for me or not??? I ask terences Permission to edit myself.

Sorry bother u again la. I owe u one coffee ,ok

    karen

  15. Hi Karen

Unfortunately, I did not view your crystal piece. Good to start simple especially since we are all new to this craft. Ok, I like crytal making too. Will join in whatever you will be teaching that day. :)

Hmmm… I have a very old antique sewing machine from my MIL still sitting in my son’s room. It’s collecting dust. It will be put to good use next time after I “graduate” from your class on how to convert my old pair of jean to a bag ya.

Thanks Karen, for imparting us those skills.

Have a good dumpling festival with your family today !

    Cheers,

    Suzhang

  16. Suzhang

Once u know how to sew those jeans/bag I made, u can be creative to sew lot of things with that “old” sewing machine.

By then , it will be a “treasure” to u.

    Karen

  17. Hello Dolly (as in the song?)
#5 & #15 U kon si mi. Pple complaining yr Hokien English hard to understand. liak bo que. Maybe u got to start a class soon to teach us Hokien English huh? The organisers of the ‘Speak Good English’ campaign will ‘pien san’ (hee hee :) How abt you be EO for tis?

    Karen
#7 glad u remember me tho’ forgotten my name. I was so taken up by yr unique one of a kind shoes n bag -v exclusive. Thot u ‘hilang’already cos waited so long n no news abt yr course. Die die must go to the craft session.

  18. Marg

Firstly , I don know whether I got the right to do this in SHC. I actually asked Dolly and she refer me to Terences. I promised Terences that I will make the cost as low as I can but there are some item that need higher cost – I start with a simple “angel” and will bring some of my creation to show the members. Some of them actually see my Jeans/shoe … u can see it at the attachment done by yew Kwong.

Will discuss on other “project” on the day of the craft.

I no “Hilang” la but I cant catch that hokkien on your earlier comment . Liak Bo Que.. I am very bad at that

I believe u have another friend with u at Bt Batok ?? I went to a few walk after Bt Batok but did not see u at all.

R u going for the Bedok walk??

    karen

  19. Hi Helen,
As you might had know by now that Terence is vry particular abt non SHC members here. So Chew and Rose, are they SHC members, if not, we will not put up their names in registration. Pls reply thru here asap.

Karen, though, we are able to help you in registration editing but pls bear in mind that there are certain restrictions that we need to abide by.

Aiyo, Marg, Singish-Hokkien dun nid 2 teach 1 la.. pick up 1 word 1x I wrote here den in long run, u will find that u actually learnt more than 100 words from me liao.. tio bo??
At most, next time, I will talk 2 u personally my lingo lor, how abt dat.. Dolly

  20. Hi Karen
Not sure at this moment whether going for the walk. Are u thinking of biz project?

Hey Dolly, sometimes yr Singlish Hokien too cheem leh

  21. Marg

What Biz project u mean?? I just want to see u cos I really who are u, that why I mentioned SHC member appreciate my craft. I got no idea of the name as well – sorry la.

  23. Marg

OIC , I cant only teach one item per day. The other day , Ah Nee was very interested in the Jean/Jean bag. That I will have to find out how and where I can conduct the class.

So my other project mean – other craft, painting the shoes/top or deisgning your own top with beads….

    Karen

** Don need to have lesson, go out with Dolly more and u will eventually pick up that Hokkien Singlish – she is reall very good at it and even in wri
    ting (hah)

  24. Hi Karen,

Count me in too, seems like I am trying to sneak in by the back door!

The next flea mart is going to be a huge affairs. I need barang barang for display. Thought this would be an excellent outlet to gain support from all participants to contribute.

Ultimately to mass produce, sound like it going to be a unique experience should we venture further!

    Danz

  25. Hi Karen,
Will you be able to help me make something to attach to my mobile phone?
I have done a little crystal craft, but they are only good enough for my own use, not refined like those on sale.
I hope I can make an angel for my phone, or even a butterfly.
I’m so looking forward to making them!

  26. Mary Chan

The crystal Angel – it can be wear as a pendent or used it for the phone too.

I don want to teach two type of crystal at one time – better split into two lesson but will show u the butterfly crystal on that day too.

    karen

  27. Alfred, Yew kwong , Douglas & Dan

I was te3lling Yew Kwong, I have one “thorn” among the roses, now my class got so thorny (haha)

    Thanks for the guyss support.

    karen

  28. Wah Karen,
your angel craft class so ‘laku’. :-) You sure you have enough crystals to go round? Do we need special tools? I have one or two pairs of pliers and forceps. Do you think they will come in useful? I’ll bring them if you think they are.

  29. Karen,

I doesn’t know much about the art of Crystal Craft, but the overwhelming responses, get me very enthusiastic leh. Two days ago I bought one black dress and I keep looking at it, kind of very dull & boring. Do you think you can suggest something to brighten up. I intend to sew some sequin / shining beats, but how & where to sew huh? The Jeans you wore at the Hans Cafe gathering really very nice, can I do something like that? I will bring my dress and show you on 27 Jun, see if you can help me with your suggestion. Thanks! :)

    Ah Nee

  30. Mary Chan

This is why I need to “mark Attendence” la . I will buy the exact crystal for each of them and maybe a few extra one just in case some want to make another pc.

If the piler is with a rounded tip, then u bring but not the flat type.

I will bring some crystal for butterfly just in case some member want to use one stone to kill two birds. The angel need just 10 min to finish.

I got two tools, we can share.

    Karen

  31. Ah Nee

So , will u want to make the crystal or just come to join us to chat. I will need to buy your share if u want to make.

ANyway, what material is your dress. Go to People Park Center There are many shop selling lot of crystal and they have lot of shiny accessories for the dress – it is your creative mind that have to work.

I will try to get the safety pin for u. Few of the member like it as well. I will wear anyother Jean to show u on that day.

    karen

  32. Hi All supporters

    Thanks

    karen

    Good Night Everyone

    karen

  37. Karen,
The Crystal class was a huge success, don’t you think? I enjoyed myself learning from you and making them besides being a mah kaypo and helping those who had problems. I was happily rewarded for my efforts though. 2 gentlemen gave me their finished products! I will definitely remember them everytime I look at the butterflies. I won’t mention their names though, for fear of embarrassing them but they were very sweet indeed. :-)
Karen, I have to give you credit for being a very patient and thorough teacher and for your generosity in sharing the techniques with us. Now, I can make some angels for my new in-laws. Hee, must get on the good side with them. ;-)
I’m sure they will appreciate the delicate and lovely angels and butterflies as I do.
    Thank you again Karen.

  38. Hi Mary #68,

By new-laws, do you mean ? Aiyah, better let you elaborate before I embarass myself, or I embarass you.

    Terence Seah

  39. Mary Chan

U had been a good help last night, I also have to thanks Pauline & Yew kwong for being the treasurer & Cameraman la.

I will post the “shoes & T-shirt painting” next.

Soooo SHCian who are interested …. pls adv , the I will set on a date.

mary Chan – any suggestion for 2nd craft class … we cant use Han again … so noisy even with 20 of us..

At a pool side will be best … Anyone has a place to offer ???

    Terences

Wait till u see the photo – I try sending 3pcs of the photo but cant get thru your email.

YKwong will help to download on Monday and send it to oi Cheng.

    karen

  40. Hi Karen

A big thank you for your patience and for helping me by putting the finishing touch to the Crystal Angel

I must admit that I am not good in art and craft, that is why there were gentle helping hands in the threading works for my Angel.

Thanks also for the bean bag, I love it very much as it really smooth the neck area after a tired day.

    Regards

  41. Douglas Chan

    U are most welcome.

Well, make a few more crystal and u will be a”crafty” man (haha)

Thanks for support. Next the painting of T-shirt – make sure u are there (hahaha)

    karen

  42. Hi All Shcian

Anyone who are still interested to do the angels/butterfly, do let me know. Once I gather 10 of them, I can still conduct another class.

I will be able to conduct another class for those who missed the 1st class or miss making the butterfly and wanted to make more of the crystal.

Members who forget to bring their reading glasses and want to make the crystal again , please come join us this time with “reading Glasses”

    Dan , Alfred & Aaron

    Want to join us ????

    Mary Chan

Want to make more for your “In-Law” or not???

    Karen

  43. Terence, I burst out laughing when I read your question at # 69. No lah, I’m not getting married….again. My daughter’s husband’s parents are her in-laws. Hence, they are also mine right? Or am I wrong in that assumption?
If not, how do I refer to them then?

  44. Mary Chan

When Terences send #69 …. I know what he mean as well and I was laughing it out too.

But if u were to say … My daughter’s in law – it also sound like Daughter-in-law.

Soooo how should we put it???

    Karen

  45. Hi Mary, Karen,

I was prepared to throw a party, if Mary has new in-laws. You never know; everything is possible in today’s life.

And MaryC, CatherineHo, I am not too sure about the email mix-up. I am aware we have two “Catherine Ho”s. Stay on this forum, and no body will go wrong.

    Terence Seah

  46. Hi ! Karen,

Appreciate you effort to conducted the craft class on 27 June at Han’s cafe. I show it to my colleague & few of them say look nice & unique.

    Once again. Thank you. Karen.

    Judy

  47. Judy

Most welcome. I will most properly be conducting the T-shirt/shoes painting class.

Now looking for right place as the paint need sometime to dry.

Anyone can offer a poolside for us to paint and at the same time for a good swim ??

    Karen

  48. Yew Kwong, you are very sweet to say that. I don’t think any one will want a woman my age. From observation, most men, regardless how old they may be, want sweet young things. ;-)
Perhaps it’s the need to prove to themselves and to others that they are ‘still capable’, hahaha.
I know of at least 2 elderly men who married sweet young things but ended up in hospital with heart attacks, poor saps. Hehe.

  49. Mary Chan

Never expect u to write the last sentence of #83 (haha)

I was wondering who are u talking about ???

All this is not for you to say – FAte decide where u are and maybe U find one when u are holiday in Iceland.

That what happened to my friend, she is not young but when she went holidaying , she met a Sweden man , love her so much – moral of the story – NO AGE LIMIT (hahhaa)

So Mary Chan – Ring the Bell and Terences will throw the Party .

    karen

  50. If someone helps to ring the wedding bells for Mary-C, I will sound the shaolin gong as she exchanges her ring……..and sacrifice myself a little bit by showing him how to be man-n-wife but first, we must find him a man.

Haha, the queue is forming really fast but oui, ramasamy s/o tuatow beng, you arent a SHCian so so pls step aside…………..yes, the next in queue looks game but oops, he might hv to be put on a viagra diet for a week b4 the wedding nite………….

  51. Hi MaryC,

Can Tim sound the shaolin “gong” & be the “bell” boy & I’ll volunteer to be yr “flower girl”

CharlesC & Dan can be the chauffeurs 4 yr bridal cars wif pretty SHCain bride’s maids!

So we could pool all our “äng pows” tog & spent @ Rest Pekin
    in JB. Ha..ha..

  52. Aiyoh, you people ah. Marrying me off so quickly. Got bell, but no groom leh. Find me a groom first, then ring the bell lah. Hahaha! I laughed so hard, my daughters thought I was nuts.

See what you’ve done. Steven believes that I’m getting married.

Tim, Viagra diet! Don’t want to give the poor chap a heart attack lah. ;-)

Catherine, are you now a wedding planner? Go all the way to JB for dinner?

It’s all Terence’s fault, with his “in-law” question. Perhaps Terence can find me a groom? ;-) But NO Thai man hah. Must be rich, handsome, sexy, be able to dance, cook, wash and clean for me. HAHAHA.
    Got or not Terence??

  53. Hi MaryC,

Me, a wedding planner? No way, haven plan mine yet, how to plan 4 U?

All the way 2 JB, it depends on how big yr “äng pow” U willing 2 give us on yr wedding after helping to advert so much lo. Ha…

Now, come on, let us know who’s the lucky guy b4 U go 4 yr honeymoon for so long. We’ll miss U!

  54. Hi CatherineH, MaryC,

I think we should move out of this thread, as this is for Karen’s craft class. Any way, I am really excited about this topic; and I shall tell you why in a new Post.

    Terence Seah

  55. Mary Chan

Photos already send to Oi cheng for Editing …. should be in anytime.

I send by private email to u now.

    karen

** U look more like the teacher than me (haha) – I make sure Boon Liang & Douglas Chan photos is in th website.

  56. Karen, I received the photos and have replied to you. I especially like the ones on Douglas and Boon Liang. I laugh out loud everytime I look at them. They really put 100% of their attention into their work. Such concentration! Such determination! Hahaha.
I think part of the problem was the poor lighting at the place.

  57. Mary Chan

Ya , I read that msg after this. That why I insist that they post that two photos …. Judy Lim laughed so loud when she saw that photo too.

I told DOuglas & Boon Liang , they are going to be real popular after this photos….

Better don go too much or the guys are not going to join my craft classes (haha)

    Karen

  58. Karen.
So, when is the next one? Any more crystal craft apart from the angel and the butterfly? I really want to make bracelets and rings and necklaces lah. In fact I bought a book, but so difficult to understand.I thought the pictorial illustrations should help, but they don’t.
Next time, I’ll bring the book along and may be you can explain to me?

  59. Mary Chan

Learn how to walk b4 u fly la. Doing bracelet is not easy.

U saw that little tiny bag I have , I struggled 5 days to do it and I keep making mistake after mistake.

I have a very nice ring in mind but find it difficult to teach.

I will want to conduct the T-shirt design & Shoe painting – want to support or not ???

    karen
