  1. Hi Marg,

Most types of dance has it own variations. You can learn Rhythm in 2 hours.

Waltz are more complicated. We start with the basic 18 steps, then Hesitation and Chasse. Next is the Open Impetus and Outside change followed by Natural turn and Throw away and Over sway.

We are now into the intermediate stage and will resume the advance stage at a later date!

Samba, can be quite a sensual dance. A lot of hands and beautiful body movements. Well, we are here to enjoy ourselves. Hopefully dancing will help us to maintain our fitness and posture and to take us through the sunset!

This is a private dance studio and no concession for passion Card holder! Take it as a sound investment for health and longevity!

  3. Hi Marg Tian,

How are you? Long time no see.

Don’t worry, it’s ok, you can put your hands and legs all over Danz. He has already established himself as a super nice guy. I can guarantee you he won’t be upset. He’ll just stretch his smile from ear to ear. Hehe. Enjoy yourself!

  4. Hi Marg,

Welcome on board, never too young to learn. When I first took up dancing, s dear friend commented that what i am doing is lugging a fridge around.

Well, that history, now with some oiling (love n forbearance) I am coming loose. Do it, you will be surprised!

Right now, we have the company of Susan Chan, Eileen Lee, Bira, Annto, Cat Yeo, Jessie Teo, Alfred Ang and Danz in the class.

  10. Hi Dan,

    Is the dance instructor Irene……
I have friends who are learning from her
and they are dancing very well. Understand
she is a very good instructor.

  11. Hi Molly,

By the look at the venue, yes, the studio belongs to Allan & Irene. Yes, she is the instructor & she is good for someone who has no basic, she will break the step down but she will not provide partner. Is best, you have your own partner or else at times, you will have to dance solo. It looks very stupid, dancing alone especially for Samba becos the partner is very important as tension is needed to give u the sort of bound.

    Ok, u enjoy!

  12. Perhaps I cd help explain what “steady2 pun pee2 go n cheong lor…” means since I speak the same lingo.

In Mandarin, the equivalent is “she ming pei jun zi” (sacrifice your life to keep a gemtleman company) or “feng pei dao di” (to accompany another to the end).

In Hokien, it is “knn, limbeh si ma bo gia, cheong !”

  13. Hi Molly, Susan,

Yes, she is, oops no advertising. She is a dance examiner, an adjudicator and a judge for dance competition!

Since when has an dance instructor provide partners. We just have to make-do with those keen to learn. Last Monday at our Waltz class we have five guys for five gals, two guys brought in by her!

Go for the fun and fellowship and who knows, life will be a melody to those who dare to take the step forward!

  14. Hi Molly,

    Thank thank….Molly,

Not really, is just that I have tried a few times. First time with Irene, 2 times with one young dance teacher who not only teaches me the classroom variation. He also teaches us techniques, tension, etc. I am still taking another class on Sunday currently.

Are you also in his class?

For me, I take it as an exercise and also to get to know more friends.

Hi Dan, I think I get to see you at Clementi. Am I rite? I don’t mean that partner should be provided. What I meant is with partner, is better especially in Latin Samba & ballroom. This is what I feel.

    Hope to see you again.

  15. Hi Susan,

Yes, we met at Clementi, how is James? Is he dancing just as well as you.

Don’t worry, I know what you mean. Having the right partner may not be easy, but preparation is needful to grasp the opportunity when it presented itself!

So, you must be a very experience dancer! Hope we can meet in one of the jam session.

  16. Hi Dan,

Wow! Wah! you are very popular with the gals becos in every lessons I goes to, u guys are spoilt for choice, haha and your name is being mentioned again and again in the posting.

Oh no. I am not a good dancer. I still have a long long way to go. Reason is that in every dance lesson, first time I was totally lost. That’s why besides putting in effort to learn, invested in $ and time just hoping that one day I will be able to do better than today.

We had just finished our 3 months of intensive cheorographed salsa performance training. James is fine but he is concentrating on other things now.

Hopefully, one of these days when we meet at the jam session, you can invite me for a dance.

  17. Well, sin now dat Tim had offered his explanation of SSPPP, i dun nid 2 do so liao..

Wahpiangz, bak chew tak stamp, but den, even Mon, I oso cant la..

  18. Hi dancers,

I’ve taken a couple of Irene Wong’s classes with Susan Tan
    not too long ago.

I would like to comment that Irene doesn’t switch partners
around in her class as many of her students come in pairs.

So if there are excess of ladies, many of you may have to imagine you are dancing with your ‘prince charming’. If
if there are 1 guy too many, well, visualise who you want
    your dance princess to be.

What I suggest is in a ‘free’ social setting like SHC, it
would be good if the E.O can ask Irene to rotate the
partners once every so often, preferably after trying out
    each variation.

Enjoy your samba or sambal, rhumba or rumble or whatever !

    James Tan (new member)

  19. Hi Susan,

Was in Jeff’s Kebangaan class last year for social dancing but due to other commitments did not continue currently.
I still get to meet him weekly and we will go lunch after bowling …..

  20. Hi Molly,

Hope we meet one of these days in one of the SHC events. Btw, are you going for the class on the 27th June. If yes, can meet you there?

  21. Hi Susan,

Sorry I will not be joining the 27th June class. Will probably catch up with you on e SHC gathering 16 July if you will be there.
