Diana Loo – Profile

Silver Is The New Gold

Wonder how many of you out there shares the same idea that Life begins only at 50!? :)  This is that phase of our life where we want to ponder and reflect on what we have achieved so far.  Did we do well, relatively well or are there is more we can do??  And I’m hoping that through this platform, I will be able to link up with like-minded individuals to share some experiences, exchange ideas and to see if there are possibilities for us to add more value and excitement to each other’s life through our exchanges and sharing.

I work for a publishing company and is responsible for business development.  Outside of work, I enjoy the nature, outdoor activities like golf and swimming.  Cooking is one of my life long passion and I love all things concerning food!  Never had the opportunity to make it into a business or be a celebrity chef yet but quite happy to whip up a meal anytime for my close friends!  :)

  1. Hi Diana
I would like to think that Life begins at 50, cos I have just passed my 50th birthday and planning to leave my job soon and enjoy my retirement. I also like Terence Seah’s idea of going away for 3 months short term overseas stay. Glad there are like minded people here.

Went to China a few times and the places I visited were very scenic that sometimes I wished I could have stay longer, that is why I find staying in one place for 1 to 2 months to enjoy the beautiful environment appealing. Alas, not possible to plan now, as my-the other half loves his job and not planning to leave any time soon. Have to shelf this plan for now, the first project for me will be to learn Chinese, not to write but able to read and converse with the people in China. Hope to meet you and other SHC members soon. :)

  2. hello diana

welcom 2 d SHC family……like u **love all things concerning food!** if u wanna organise a cookin with other SHC mbrs call me 90254184 :)) wat *killer* dishes do u love 2 cook??

  3. Hi Wee Jee & Esther

Thanks for sharing the same sentiments that Life Begins at 50!

Just like our new friend Ivan Lim, I left my previous globe trotting job after a year of deliberation. Was sick and tired of all the frequent travels and having to deal with all the corporate politics. Now that I am “my own boss” so to speak, the best part is I get to pick the kind of projects that is exciting and interesting!

My life long dream is to be able to publish my own cookbook one day! It does look like that dream isn’t too far away for me now! :)

I am also in the midst of launching a new lifestyle magazine by the silvers for the Silvers! Silver differentiates itself from other magazines with a positive and vibrant tone. It does not talk down to the esteemed generation who’s born in the 60s, 50s and 40s. It does not believe in calling them old folks or senior citizens. In fact, they are hardly senior. To the good people at this magazine, age is but a number. It is relative. At Silver, we believe our readers are young at heart and we simply want to celebrate life together with them.

We are still in the process of fine-tuning the content but if you have any comments or feedback or special topics you like included, we look forward to hearing from you. I will provide more updates soon.

And yes Esther, I would be keen to meet up for a cooking session if we can round up a couple of budding chefs! :) But we need a decent size kitchen for this don’t we?

  4. Hi Diana:
I believe being in the “silver” years is being able to grow old gracefully barring health problems and learning to enjoy life with every passing moment meaningfully possibly able to pay forward to society in one way or another. Looking forward to your magazine by the Silvers and for the Silvers.Cheers for keeping up the good work!

  5. Hi Diana
Wow! A lifestyle magazine, let us know when it is available at the news-stand. Would like to get hold a copy of it. Good luck and best wishes.

  6. hi diana

your **vibrant tone** reverberates !! n i absolutely agree that **age is but a number**…………….

hello SHC mbrs……who has a decent size kitchen to lend pls raise ur hands here !!

  7. Hi Diana!

Welcome to SHC! Jux when they’re talking abt Princess Diana & here U appear! So U be our new “Princess Diana”of SHC!
Of cz, U won’t be exactly like her becz U can cook well.

What do U mean by a decent size kitchen? Is a 5 rm or maisioniette kitchen too small for U?
Also share the same passion wif U abt the magazine but not a big scale like yrs. Maybe some comments or newsletter etc to slip into bks marks? ( I’m sure more SHCians would like to do that.)

Since life span is much longer now, I believe life begins @ 50 esp. wif those whose children are grown-ups & had enough of a bit of savings to spend more freely. We could do what we desire more freely!

  8. Hi Gals

Thanks for your response and positive feedback so far. Its actually quite refreshing and heart warming so far, I already can feel the sincerity of genunine friends without much effort! Some more from the same age group! So unlike some of these matchmaking sites out there where you got to be really careful with new acquaintances! Anyway you hardly get to meet people of the same sex at these sites. Even if you do, hmmm, they are not straight la! :P I have plenty of stories to tell about them but will save it for another time! :)

So, looks like our first cooking get-together will happen soon? Let’s see who has a big enough kitchen to offer here? Then again, it depends on the size of the interest group. I reckon should be no more than 8 for a start? Don’t want to be too ambitious!

As for the magazine, be on the look out! Those who are interested to be my “guinea pigs” raise your hands or drop me a line and a copy will be sent to you when it is launched. :)

  9. Hi Diana

Welcome aboard! Mmm… food, cooking, lifestyle magazine..
    Very interesting.

I do enjoy cooking for my family so do keep me in the loop when there is a cooking demostration.

Left my job three years ago and have never regretted being “boss” of my own time.

Hope to meet up with you at our SHC activities.

  10. Hi Diana:
Count me in as your “guinea pig”, as for cooking class I’m not much of a cook just some simple soup cooking but interested to join to have some fun.At the very least I could wash the dishes.Ha Ha! Hope to see some of you at Bali Lane today.

  11. Hi Diana
Make me your second “guinea pig”, as to the “cooking fest” – would not be able to join you yet until Oct or Nov this year, maybe the next cooking session. Not a good cook but willing to learn and wash dishes…ha..ha :)

  12. Hi Diana,

I’m a fresh & green newbie here, so green & fresh that I have yet to learn to write up and post my profile yet!
Anyway, I’m happy to know that you’ll be launching this lifestyle mag for silvers and by silvers.
I’ll be more than happy to be your “guinea pig”.
I love and enjoy cooking and of course eating. Please count me in for the cooking class too.
You may contact me at conswong1268@yahoo.com.sg
    Best regards.

  13. Hallo Diana – I notice you mentioned golf as one of your interests. Where do you play? Or do you go to the driving range? Would love to meet up with you, perhaps at a driving range?
Also, congrats on your “Silver” publication – do keep me posted. Thanks. Regards.

  14. Hi Diana

I am glad to know that you would like to share with us of your expert cooking. Please count me in for your cooking class.

I also like to read magaziine related to silver hairs life style – healthy and meaningful living. Please keep me inform when you publish your magazine.

    Best regards.

  15. Hi Diana

Alice and I welcome you to the SHC, and wish to know from you why you choose the age of 50 to begin life with. AS our retirement age is now going further up ladder, from 55 to 60 then 62 to 65 will be coming to 68 soon, and who knows with longer life expectancy, where our retirement age will be. In a true sense, while you are in active service, you may not stop to think what life will be until you really retire. On the other hand, you may think to yourself, what lifestyle you want to lead, whether you want a lifestyle the way you spend during your working life or to scale down after your retirement. It spell out how big and solid is your golden egg.

Congratulation to you that you are contemplating in publishing a cook book and launching a new lifestyle magazine for the silver.

    Ron n Alice Lai

  16. Hi Ron and Alice

Nice to hear from a guy member for a change! What I really mean when I said “life begins only at 50″…I’m talking about the 2nd phase of our life. In the last, wee were busy chasing after our career, setting up a family, taking care of kids, etc. Now we have more time to take a step back to reflect on what we can do better, what else we want to do, etc.

Thanks for all the positive feedback so far. FYI, the magazine to be launched is also meant for the male population not just for the Silver ladies! :)

  17. Hi Diana Loo.
    Welcome to SHC. :-)
I enjoyed reading your profile. I like the phrase “adding more value and excitement to each other’s life through our exchanges and sharing”. That sums up what SHC is all about.

Cooking? Did you say ‘cooking’? I used to cook a lot, not anymore as my two girls, one of whom just got married last Saturday, eat out most of the time and it’s too troublesome cooking for one. May I join you if you do organise any cookery session?

Great that you are launching a magazine for us silverhaired. (um what silver hair? where? where? Hehe).
I totally agree that age is but a number and you bet, we are definitely young at heart!

  18. “Cooking? Did you say ‘cooking’?”. Of cos not Mary-C, she said everything..cocking, corking, croaking….. but “cooking”, heee, what’s wrong with yr eyes?

Now that i have pointed out what you didnt quite see, yr follow-on msg will read like this :

“I used to cork a lot (must be like those Tiger beer ah sor), not anymore as my two girls…..eat out most of the time and it’s too troublesome cocking for one (sure, cocks are rare). May I join you if you do organise any croaking session?”

  19. Tim,
there’s nothing wrong with my eyes, but there’s definitely something very wrong with your brain. It’s somehow stuck there between your legs, trapped in sordid thoughts.
All you think of is reflected in what you write. I guess the day you croak then will your cock stop crowing, so cork it up wilya?
