I am initiating this post to invoke and stimulate the creative instincts among SHC members and make them aware that with our life full of rich experiences we have a better awareness of Love and Life in general.
"Poems can also include phrases, salutations on greeting cards, anecdotes, lyrics from songs, reflections and similar thoughts. These can be original or discovered from somewhere( if willing and able try to identify source ).
Love can also mean friendships, relationships ( can also include hate and our feelings when we are in a melancholy or even negative mood )
I’ll kick off with a few corny (have a good laugh)ones that I remember from the past. The 1st one is not original but copied from a Hallmark card with a quote I believe from a Lady(I think ) by the name of Kahil Gibran.
"Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot help but keep it from themselves."
The 2nd is from a Beatles song called "In My Life" I can’t remember all the words at this time…can anybody help to refresh?
The 3rd are lyrics from a Nat King Cole song called "When I fall in Love"…will it be forever?
"You are you and I am I,but together we make beautiful music ."
Sharing a beautiful poem with a dark theme.
The Sick Rose (by William Blake)
Oh Rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy,
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.
LOVE OF LIFE
Here is a poem by nature poet William Wordsworth. It echoes in my mind ever so frequently. It describes the fascinating wonders of childhood when everything is new and captivating. If we can retain this sense of wonder and awe throughout life, how enjoyable each day will be. Is joining SHC is one way of keeping this sense of wonder alive? Over to you.
THE RAINBOW
My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.
William Wordsworth
RAINING BOWLS
My heart bing bing bang bang when I behold
The sky raining bowls:
So was it when I first joined the tai sengh gang;
So is it now I am their white fan;
So beat it when retaliate my slippers I throw,
Or let off “Chow & Chick Pie!”
The Child is fathered by me her Man;
I would wish no gays there be
Bound each to a bitch by the sibei paisy me.

Sometimes when you love someone very much, you have to go through every heartaches & every pain,
Because in the end, its how you love but how much you hold on.
Real true love is having all the things go wrong but still having a special way to love despite of all the wrong things that had happened,
Learn to forgive and love again.
“Listen” contains the same letters as “silent”,
Listen to the silence of the heart, hear what it says so you’ll know what will make you happy.
Those who love too much suffer but those who were loved do not cherish,
In order to love again,I would rather being loved.
True love is at the roof of our basic nature,
Love for another human being must be cultivated.
It takes time to mature.
Love starts innocently,
But soon possesiveness comes in
Forgetting love should be without boundaries,
Setting more conditions stifens everything
Why do we love only the strong and beautiful,or only the successful,
Is love not about sharing and giving,
Helping each other to grow into better beings,
Not needing nor depending,
Not giving and also not expecting
But then we err as human,
Failing in most circumnstances
Never realising love is not something you can own,
For it is free, without boundaries or conditions
Yet demanding a lot of commitments
The only reason we love is for our offsprings,
But soon we have to learn,
The cylce start again and their love begins
And as grandparents we can only listen,
To what we have gone through and hope they learn,
Everything that we have shown, from the day they were born, and now they will soon be on their own,
Why love, if we are alone,
With only one, with too many conditions
Why not learn to love without boundaries
Set no conditions, or expectations
It is time to open our hearts and minds
To share a smile with everyone
And love all, like children,
Innocent, free and without conditions,
As there is no need procreation
So the love can be without expectations
Just sharing a smile, a pain, or a gain
Amd love can be anything we want it to be,
Unconditional, free as it should be,
But then am I a dreamer, or in dream,
But I believe in simple things,
Free, and easy, and loving everything,
Hoping our offsprings share our dawning springs
And the cycle of love begins,
Painful but yet rewarding, Cheers
SILVERHAIR, I never told you how I truly feel
You probably think my heart is from steel
SILVERHAIR, my dear sweetheart
I really feel my life did just start
SILVERHAIR, you are unbelievably beautiful
Not having met you earlier makes me feel like a fool
I think you are the perfect match
You are the greatest catch
SILVERHAIR, you mean so much to me
With you I really feel free
Eternal bliss is where I’m bound
In your arms is where it’s found
This POEM is for you, I hope you will like it
Because to me, you are my biggest hit
This letter has come to an end
There are many more I would like to send
Wow Charles!
Very inspiring poem for SHCians. U said it all for me!
Very beautiful & eminently well written!
I like it very much.
Hi Charles #6,
Really beautiful poem, I am thinking of using it as a SHC asset. Just like our SHC jingle.
Terence Seah
Here in Silverhairs, Ah Pek found Ah Por
So happy Ah Por ho ho ho
But behold
Came running Lily & Cat each with 1 Ho.
Ah Pek took over the one ho ho ho
As he dumped Ah Por
Telling her she’s too lolilosor
As he hugged the Hos to the danz floor.
Isnt Silverhairs the place lovers meet?
Where romance blossoms and breeds?
But why was moi’s heart made to bleed
Softly, Ah Por cursed bloody shit.
Here in Silverhairs, rumba, salsa, cha cha semus pun ada
Nevermind if you dance like making roti prata
We will still clap & applaud you like John Travolta
Nvm if yr steps all salah and wind get into yr kepala.
Anyone thinks love is in the air
Surely has a fever about to flare (up)
Cos love is such an elusive fare
How many have true love to share?
(Can go home liao)
Love abounds among the males
When the mating season starts,
When the fight begins
Where the strongest wins
The lady waits the one who triump
And together to the nest they climb
Bringing offsprings surely are fit
To the uncertain world the young will meet
As our hair silvers,
And so our goals,
Why love, why the need,
To more uncertainty indeed,
Why not just live
And enjoy the past toils
Watching the world goes by
And the cycle of love of your child
We have gone thru so much,
So why do we want to start
another cycle with a weaker heart
When the factories are already closed
Production of empty goals?
Cheers

So so true. Thanks for writing such a nice piece.
I am not good at putting my thoughts into words. Your poem speaks for me too.
Warmest Regards

Love is a fountain, an elixir which never stops flowing, infact, it is true to an extent.
Many of us are fortunate to find a partner at the very 1st instance & happily married to that person.
Having spent an entire life with that partner,
having off springs to nurture,
here comes situations where one partner departs
leaving the other partner bereaved & lonely.
The stigma of loneliness hurts every minute, every second and that is when the person needs to have another partner.
Marriage is a long journey,
some accomplish successfully while some don’t.
For those couples who see the entire length,
love during old age means a second remarriage almost.
Old age is when the people almost become like kids.
They crave for more love and attention.
Not only do people feel cared and secured during the old age but a great amount of love comes into being between the two partners.
Love is loving someone without expecting anything in return, no judgement, no restrictions, no limitations, no expections.
Learn to forgive and love again.
I would like to delicate this little poem to the President & Founder of SHC Mr Tenrence Seah.
All we were at first names in a chat box,
SHC brought us together by taking the chance,
To discover who we are in the box,
We chatted within the box for a while.
To the friends I now intend,
SHC is his charming name,
You my special friend,
Mostly strange ones at first, some will be close ones I hope in the end.
SHC is the special star that shines your life,
Give you courage, love & care,
With even the tiniest things in life we all share,
We will grow old together with our silver hair.
Thank you SHC Founder Terence Seah,
Many interest we can share,
There is so much we can learn from each other,
Lives in the silver years will be better.
Oops! I have forgotten to add.
I would also like to delicate this little poem to all the SHC members, too.

To those who have warmly responded a HUG(platonic only) and a whispered and tender thank you to thy ears from the original postman(man who started the post) who was moved and touched(surprised as well that there are so many creative types in SHC…maybe can have a night of original poems on one SHC Night).I wrote 3 poems when in college on subjects like HATE(Society My Old Man), Love poem on my 1st house party on the night when men 1st landed on the moon on 19July 1969(Lady In Blue) and the 3rd one on the realisation on the transition from Friendship to Love(The Unexpected)…anybody remembers the name of a perfume by COTY called “IMPREVU”.(inspired by the scent of this perfume)
My creative juices have been stirred(not yet hot enough to start writing again but as yet …who knows) but I shall show my appreciation by tagging a title to all the authors.
But 1st a tribute to my 1st respondent.A special extract of lyrics from a song called JASAMINE(by which band I have forgotten…can anybody help)
“What am I supposed to do ,with a girl like Jasamine?
When Jasamine goes,nobody knows…
My eyes are open wide, but I am only dreaming”
Ref #1Jassmine Teo… the thoughful one… true to form…u must be the same one who bothered to thank me when I was fencing with Stevie Wonder on the Vietnam Post.
Ref #2 Low Ming Choo …age of innocence and bewilderment
Ref #3 Tim Liu…garbled one (liak boh Kiew)
Ref $4 Nancy Major Tan…the silent and aggrieved one(P.S.
I think nobody has dared ask you…were u a Major in the Army or is it short form for Majorie?)
Ref #5 Ronald Wie…the understanding and appreciative one
Ref #6 Charles Wee…the inspirational one
Ref #9 Tim Liu …impish singlish(a vast improvement on the 1st piece)
Ref #10 Ronald Wie…the simp[le and realistic one
Ref #12 Nancy Major Tan…Reflections of My Life(song by Marmalade)
Ref #13 Nancy Major Tan …All can hear, but only the sensitive can understand(one of my favourite pieces )
Ref #14 Nancy Major Tan …the forgetful one Ha Ha Ha(hope I will be forgiven for teasing you on your mistake).
On another day I shall share with you some lyrics of old songs like Everything that touches you – The Association,Happy together-the Turtles,It don’t matter to me-Bread,Make it with you-Bread,Babe by Styx,Something-Beatles.
Just to share with SHC members I used to have songs associated with girls(at that time) that I was fond of but some like the 1st one ..never even dated but got close to her by coaching her in English(by the way she was from T.K.G.S…anybody from there?)Her theme song was Sunshine Girl by Herman’s Hermit’s , others were My Sentimental Friend, When I fall in Love,Something,Something in the Air,theme song from “Against all odds”(very prophetic we didn’t make it but we saw the movie together). One of my current favourite love songs is You’re beautiful by James Blunt.Anybody has the same silly and mushy habit as me…would you like to share?
Hi Patrick-K
“Jessamine” is sung by The Casuals.
Now I would like to share one of the most moving poems in English poetry:
When You Are Old (by W.B. Yeats)
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead,
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
Hi Patrick Khoo,
I posted this little poem at my own profile, hope you will like it. :D
Ronald Wie invited to come this weekend,
Cycling at East Coast Yew Kwong Planned,
Here I come for the cycling event,
Over here I met SHC friends.
While I cycled on the track,
There is no one behind my back,
Yew Kwong was my cycling guide,
Charles Chua was with him beside.
Terence treats us with chicken curry,
Our stomachs were growling, hungry,
There was a man he wore in blue,
“If you wanna eat, go get fork and spoon!”
It was quite a shock to me,
I was wonder who is he?
The chicken curry was quite tasty,
It will be nice to go with bread and roti,
Thanks again for the curry,
All of us went home happily!

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for your comments and also I dont watch EPL let alone bet on them.
Now that the air is cleared, let us share a lighter side of love as it turn out for me
” Women love men believing they can change them,
Men love women believing they will not change,
Sadly both are mistaken, the men stay the same
And the women figure starts to change,
That is when love really starts to pain,
And dreams are far from whence it came
It is only when we accept all this as part of the game,
Then only true love forever remains
Sadly though I can accept all these plain as the tree,
But somehow to have peace I have to part with my family,
Why I ask, is this my solitary destiny
Maybe for the better for everyone, the future will be, then at for that I will be happy, Cheers
What is this thing called Love
Between a man and a woman
Does it really exist?
Is it for real?
Or perhaps it was created by Hollywood
It’s like driving one a hot day on a straight road
You see a puddle of water in front of you
You come closer
It dissapears
Like a MIRAGE, Love appears to be there
But when you come close, it dissapears
And all too soon
You realise
It could have been real
Perhaps too good to be true
And all that you have is just a memory
OF a MIRAGE
Here’s the first and last stanzas from my 1st poem Society,My Old Man.I will post the full poem when I can find it.
My old man,
He’s a drag,
He’s a bore,
And what’s more, he snores
My old man,
He tells me this,
He tells me that
He didn’t get further than that.
Hi all, something nice to read.
True drops of love
We must not think that our love has to be extraordinary.
But we do need to love without getting tired.
How does a lamp burn?
Through the continuous input of small drops of oil.
These drops are the small things of daily life:
faithfulness; small words of kindness;
a thought for others; our way of being quiet;
of looking; of speaking; and of acting.
These are the true drops of love that keep our lives and
relationships burning like a lively flame.
– Mother Teresa

Dear all,
The purest of all love, it seems, is quite a simple thing.
It radiates from within the heart of simple human being.
It’s free to give to whom we choose, but never safe to take,
Unless it is returned with care so not to make hearts break.
