Would you like to offer your services to other SHCians?

Many of us would like to do some part-time job, when we retire.  Here are some examples which have been discussed on this forum.  The examples of providing different services can be picked up on this forum, when discussing Blue Helmet projects.

  1. Walking a dog for a couple who is outstation.
  2. Baby sitting
  3. Guides needed to show visitors around a farm
  4. Running short errands to buy toto or 4D tickets
  5. Temp secretarial or administrative tasks
  6. Buying a gift for a friend
  7. Part-time tour guide for a small group of travellers
  8. Mahjong coach for a few days a month
  9. Assist with business meetings and conventions
  10. Teach swimming to children at a condo’s pool.
  11. Temporary telephone call operator, on a specific industry.
  12. Teaching home cooked food.
  13. Marketing errands
  14. Teaching music lessons
  15. Home based menicure and pedicure sevices
  16. Personal image consultant
  17. Supply of shepherd’s pies
  18. Temporary office relief
  19. Party clown or magician
  20. Escort and guide on a short holiday.
  21. Part-time book-keeper or accountant
  22. Relief driver for drunked diners.
  23. Any others, it is up to you.  Sexual, racial, political, religious and MLM are not permitted to be advertised under this project.

Here’s how the process works, if you are keen to provide any personal services to the public.  This service is available only to retired or semi-retired SHCians.  Strictly for members only.  Write down the service you would like to offer to the public (No more than 140 characters, including space).  The services would initially be made known to the other members of SHC.  If the service proves to be a success, this same set of services will be offered to the general public.

  • To start, write down the service you offer by sending an SMS to Blue Helmet SMS 9178-7097 in the following format:  BH <Providing dog walking services @ $20 per hour.  Min 2 hours.  Bedok area.  Dog must be well natured and kept on a leash.  Jenny Poh>.
  • If a customer is interested in your service, you will receive an email alert to your registered SHC mobile telephone.
  • You can then call back to the customer, and take over from there.
  • We will not be responsible for any outcome or negotiations you may have with any customer.
  • You may be charged for the SMS @ 20 cents each, once the services are offered to the public.

This service is intended as a Blue Helmet project.  So, go ahead.

No this service wont sell not least when a posting in the forum will achieve the same purpose, and unless it’s offered to the world at large.

  5. Guys, Gals,

I probably did not make the service clear. Only via SMS please. Please read again post again. The system will validate your mobile number for accuracy. Why SMS? Because your services will be offered to the public, who are not SHC members, and will not use this forum.

  7. I dont snore when I sleep………….me for those who dare not sleep alone at nite, afraid of ghosts, mice, roaches and tai-eelongs come knocking……………..

  8. Hi Terence.
May I offer my humble opinion reg services. I think it’s better to confine our offer of services to fellow SHCians and their friends and relatives. Opening to the public will not serve our purpose as our aim is to benefit fellow SHCians. Moreover we might get unwelcome responses as we do not know who are the people responding.
Thanks anyway for your good intention.

    Regards
    Roy Koh

  9. Please continue to send in the personal services you offer Of course, you may put a charge. This is perfectly fine, and is total left to the service provider.

Tong Seng, noted your points to offer the services to SHCians only. We shall do that, although I have mentioned many moons ago, that the Blue Helmet project is intended to provide opportunities for retired SilverHairs to offer their skills and services, to the general public, on a paid basis. Hopefully, this activity will make SilverHairs years more meaningful and manageable.

For now, we do this for SilverHairsClub members only. Let’s give it a go. No external advertising.

  10. Hi Terence

Great idea to list out services that can be provided for a fee! Can the system also accept msg for help wanted so that some form of a matching can be co-ordinated? For eg this website reduces waste by connecting people who wants to throw away goods with others who happen to be looking for the same goods. Check it out:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SgFreecycle/

We apply the same concept for services…..

I am actually looking for someone with plumbing experience to help me replace the flushing mechanisms for 2 of my WC … of which I am willing to pay a fee for his help and time.

    Cheers,

    Vw

  11. Hi Tian Soo,

Initially, all listings will be placed on the SHC website, for members only.

However, if we reach say 50 SHCians who have some personal services to offer, the same listings will be loaded onto the SMS server. The SMS server will then alert the service giver.

  12. Hi Vince #12,

I didnt give any thought to “service wanted”. But, I guess not for now, due to limited resources. Good tip.

  13. Assasination Service on offer. No cure no pay. Clean job, no blood. Dead bodies guaranteed removed. Assured no seek out for revenge. Offer on the cheap – $10 for a dozen. Where to find?

  14. Terence #14

I mean, if I want to use one of the services already listed above. How do I contact them? I don’t have their individual contact info. Do I use this forum to request and for negotiate their services?

  15. How I wish I am retired or semi retired now!!! Some of the 22 services listed up there are so so my cup of tea.
Hope this works out well and stay put. Hope to see this still whn I retire..:-)))…by that time, maybe sms is outdated…I mean technology is moving so quickly, and changing so rapidly, maybe sms obsolete by 2010…:-))

  16. Hello Tim the assassin
$10 a dozen – v exp leh! for roaches, lizards, ants n spiders- can get traps for less n which last for 3 mths.
Btw am looking for someone to teach how to use electric drills to drill holes in walls for pics, and also minor household repairs eg changing plugs, tap washers etc.

  17. marg, you must be a woman ! Men dont bargain like you. $10 a dozen isnt expensive if you put yr heart with the assasin me that the roaches, lizrads and spiders maynot just sleep with you, next to you but being so tiny, might hv gone into you. If that happens – and it usually happens – I’ll hv to follow them and enter you……into a world on unknown as what’s inside you, even you dunno.

I cant help you to frill holes on walls but if there’s a chance that you want me to dig a hole on the ground for you, I will but that order has to be made early, similar to an advanced medical directive……

  18. Hey guys!!

Let’s be serious…. if someone needs a service from one of our members, let’s reply accordingly. If you can help, then put your name down. I can see two persons already with a stated need:

Vincewong#12 wants to replace the flush mechanism in two toilets

Marg#20 wants to learn how to use an electric drill and do minor repairs

What SHC can do is establish not only the service but lay out the charges/fees. Then there will be no quibbles or misunderstanding.

Last month’s Straits Times (July 21st) carried an article on Singaporeans offering such services. In fact, six companies are offering these services from $30 to $40 per hour. This could be a viable venture for SHC and BlueHelmet.

  19. Hi everybody,

Kenneth is right. If you need a service from fellow members, simply write your requirement here; and reply here. Perfectly fine. No need to wait for formailities.

I feel strongly and glad that Kenneth has mentioned here. State your rate if you are offering personal services. Dont just state a servie. The rate too. Be open. No quibbles and misunderstanding.

So, go ahead. You have a service, say so. You need something, say so. And right here. Dont be shy about it. You have our support.

    Hi,

Few people change tap washers these days.Just change the whole tap.

As for using a drill, that shouldn’t be a problem. Not that dificult to learn, just need strong hands to withstand the vibration.

    Cheers

  23. Hi for those offering personal services, please send SMS to 9178-7097 in the following Blue Helmet format eg:

BH Any house chore eg plumbing, drilling, washing, bulbs, etc. Costs plus initial $40 for 1st hr, and subsequent $30/hr. Jill Chan.

    Try it.

  24. Hi. I would like to offer the following services #23?:

  25. Hi, I have this little goat, its a she, and she is 2 years old. I like to give it away, are there anyone who is interested. She is in good shape,in good health and she eats light vegies. Thanks.

  26. Hi Celia

We would love to have your goat in our farm. Can you call me. I do not have your contact info.

I have ask Terence twice how to contact you folks if I want to buy any of the services here but Terence did not reply. Is it a stupid question Terence?

    To All

I am also looking for someone who can do Wed design. Please email me at ecofarm@greencircle.com.sg. I don’t have much money to pay so this is only for those who want to execise their creative skills.

  27. Hi Tian Soo

Just some words of caution. I think U mean “Web” design. Getting someone 2 do the job costs min ard $500. If U paying sth less than tis, I m afraid the job may not be a gd one unless U compromise std or perhaps, someone who wld like 2 try out.

Its impt 2 hv sth gd 2 publicise ur prods n svcs otherwise savings become ineffective n waste of resources.

  28. Yew Kwong

By cheap I mean $1000-2000 as oppose to $10,000-$20,000.

I already have an effective website about 7 years old and needs upgrading. I have all the materials, I want creative visuals and technical application. I did the last one myself but did not kept up wth the technology and want new ideas.

  29. Hi all,

I agreed with Tian Soo that we need someone to be the coordinator for the services we put up. I don’t mind to be the one if you all think it is o.k.
I was a ex teacher from a special school, I would like to share my experience and knowledge with you people.
I can coach basic english to adult too.
Any one care for a swimming class, for ladies and children only. you may call me at h/p

  30. Whta can we do with a 2-year old goat……..meat is tender enough to chop into small cutes for satay (that will make at least 50 sticks) or cook with curry or just grill the whole goat over slow fire like they do for suckling pigs.

Ok, Celia, where can I pick up yr goat in time for a feasting at this wkend’s beach party?

Tian Soo, you didnt ask a stupid question. On the contrary, the question is so profound that Sengh will have to shag his brains to answer it. See, he didnt expect you to be this serious, what he had in mind was for folks to go into his tent to contact, to touch and do what normally is done in a tent………..

  31. Hi Tim,

I just got back and I had quickly called Mr Lim Tian Soo to apologise. I am also apologising here if I had caused any error. The little goatie was growing dangerously delicious, so I had to give it away. Regards.

  32. Hi Vivian Lai #35,

  33. OOOps, so no goat to eat this afternoon? That goads me into looking for an alternative food source……..an udder will be nice, any offer out there?

  34. Would you like to offer your personal services to other SHC members? and to the Public? Under the Blue Helmet project, we shall promote your personal services with the aim that you can still be active and earn some pocket money.
