If you have comments regarding this event, you are welcome to give your views.

This will help organiser of next event to make it even more successful.

If this venue is favorable to most members, I would not mind to hold another monthly meeting
in the near future with more performances. This time I may tie up with the CC management if
we can use multifunction hall next to the cafe. The hall is more spacious and has better lighting.

All you valuable comments and suggestions are most welcome.

sincerely,

  1. Heyo..lovely EOs..James & Susan..

    Well done..=D% =D%

It was really a lovely and wonderful gathering with music, dancing and dance performance..^:-J

I did enjoy myself very much and indeed fun… :P

From the response and with such a spontoneuous crowd, believe the next dance event you gonna organise will definitely need a bigger dancing stage/hall to accommodate more dancers.. :D

Good to see more such gathering event with music and dancing…keep them coming yo..Will definitely Hit The Dancing Floor again..;)

    Cheers!!

  2. Dear EOs
Yes, thank you for all the efforts. I had a great time enjoying the performances. You also allowed us time to talk with others. Great planning.

There are really good dancers in the club! I am envious.

  3. Dear EOs

You have my thumbs up for all your efforts in making this monthly meeting memorable.

Dancers – WOW! WOW! WOW! You are all fantastic!

    I had a great time.

  4. Dear EOs

Thanks very much for a job well done in organising this entertaining event. The dance you did together was very :):):):):)

Enjoyed watching the dances. Members had the chance to mingle and chat because of the break in between dances. Good planning.

Thanks also to the dancers who put in so much time and effort to make this event possible.

Enjoyed the chicken in black pepper sauce and crepe with ice cream too.

    Warmest Regards
    Caroline Gee

  5. Hi EOs and Dancers

I echo comments above…great job for putting such an enjoyable event, altho sori to have missed the dance event due to another appointment later in the evening I completely forgot but at least I got to meet so many other wonderful SHCians which I now can put a face to the names!! Got to meet ‘new’ and catch up with ‘not so new’ ones. ‘New’ ones like Norlinda, Doreen, Lilian, Caroline Sit, Hamidah, Oi Cheng, AndrewYeung, KennethTan, ShirleyWee, AndrewThio, MargaretLee(playing chor tai tee), Juliet. Of course there were some ‘oldies’ I already know….Ron Wi, Lydia, PatsyLim, CatYeo, AndrewKoh (the fisherman…hehe), Susan Tan, Danz, Joy, Helen Wong (pls join us for badminton), Boon Liang and of course CEO, Terence whom so sad, cannot remember me. (met you at kukup la). Sori if I missed out anyone’s names coz got so many people !! Next time will be better.

CatHo, thanks for the drink ! Next one is on me or you prefer chwee kueh ?

Constance, you’ve a lovely retriever. hope I can get to meet him/her? haha forgot to ask male or female.

Ah Nee, at last also got to meet you, of course that is my fault for not being more sociable. You’ll be cycling sat? Then we can catch up again.

When can we view the photos uh? when? when?

Looking eagerly to the next meeting !!

  6. Good morning to all,

A big round of applause to the EOs and team, great performance and planning, really enjoyed myself thru’ the night. Even my Waltz dance instructor, Henry Teo was amazed, he told me….Wow! Never know got soooo good dancers in your club huh! Now he is contemplating to join SHC……. :)

    Hi James,
I agree, the air-cond multifunction hall next to the café is more comfortable and spacious, but I guess we have to pay a fee to book the hall. The Chairman of the Kovan CC, Michael Tan is aware of our last night gathering. I SMS him to come and join us, but due to his work schedule, he was absent last night. He will be of great help for this purposes, you can call the CC for his HP number (or me) and get in touch with him. Btw, Michael Tan is also a SHC member. Cheers! and have a nice day.

    Ah Nee

  7. Dear James & Susan,

Your painstaking efforts in organising this event was indeed fulfilling, as prominently shown with great audience cheering & motivating us dancers during our performances.

We, as dancers for this event, were just as pleased as you in delivering our utmost to keep the audience entertained.

A big ‘Thank You’ to both of you, as well as Terence Seah, for your kind generosity in showering us with tokens of appreciation.

    Cheerio!

  8. MANY THANKS TO ALL, who one way or other, have made
last night gathering such a huge success & great fun.

It was my first maiden attendance in SHC events,
and was amazed & impressed with the talents, cordiality,
    and friendliness that SHCian exude!

    Cheers to more good times!

    Best regards,
    Constance

  9. Hi James & Susan T

Thank you for the wonderful and lovely evening of entertainment. I really enjoyed it

What more can I say?..truly a job WELL DONE!! Keep it up.

I supported Susan C’s comment #7 esp “We, as dancers for this event, were just as pleased as you in delivering our utmost to keep the audience entertained”

    Thank you again

    Cheers
    Dennis W

  10. Hi James and Susan,

You kept us entertained the whole night. Perhaps future monthly gatherings will have similar line and social dancing!

Lot of good company, meeting new and old friend. Credit to Terence for the foresight in starting this blog. The turnout was fantastic and we may need to look for bigger premises.

Let’s hope more got caught by the dancing bugs and SHC will be a place where dancers meet and enjoy themselves. There are so many types of dances to learn and we will all learn and grow ‘young’ gracefully!

    Danz

  11. Hi James & Susan,
3 Cheers to our EOs James & Susan.
Wow wow the big gathering at Kovan was fantastic.
Guess everyone enjoyed one way or the other.
The performance was great and hope we can have
    more soon.

  12. Dear James & Susan,

    Congratulations!

Indeed, an UsUsUal and Entertainting gathering nite.
Bravo to all the performers for a great show.

    Thanks
    Rene

  13. Hi ALL Dancers,

without U, October 15th will be the same as any other month gathering. JOB WELL DONE! Keep your happy moving.

To all those who turned up,

thank you for your supportive. Without U, it will never be complete.

I am just so happy with the turnout last nite. I am really lost for word.

    THANK YOU ONCE AGAIN!
    susan tan

  14. Thank you James, and Susan. It was a great show. In fact I would say it was par excellence. And to all dancers, you have put up such a trilling performance; and I believe you have encouraged many non-dancers to join you.

    Terence Seah

  15. Hi Susan and James

    Good Job.

Last night was FABULOUS. I enjoyed myself very much with the performances and dancing. A night to mingle with the members to makan, drink, laugh, talk and more makan. It was indeed an honour to dance in the presence of so many wonderful dancers in the audience.

A very big KAM SIAH to Terence for his support and generosity, buying the gifts for the performers and those who help out at the gathering. Not forgetting too members whose presence were equally important to make it a huge success.

Looking forward to more such lively gatherings.

    Cheers
    Agnes

  18. Hi Maggie @#5
So impressive your memory power no wonder you took to card n board games like duck to water.

Hope to play CTT SOON before the ‘rules’ disappear from my short-term memory. Also keen to practise chess, esp looking to play ‘en passant’ and castling.

Hey Danz, when’s the next table games (board n card games)cafe?

    Cheers,

  19. Hi EOs (James & Susan)…

So what’s next after this wonderful and succesful UnUsUal Dance Gathering Event? How about having a X’mas eve countdown party??? :P

  20. Hi Dolly,

Like you, a lot of members would have caught on the dance
fever after last nite. Thank you very much to all the
    fabulous dancers and enthusiastic supporters.

Looking ahead, I was thinking if it might be possible to
hold a dance performance cum social dancing event at Kovan
saying every quarter. I’ll work this out either with the
cafe owner or the CCMC (to use the hall).

To make this a success, I need to assess how keen are our
    dancers/potential dancers (I still don’t know all
the hidden talent yet) and how supportive are the members
if we have to pay a nominal charge of a few $ to use the
    multifunction hall.

Shall update with another post once I work out the nitty
    gritties.

  21. Thanks EOs, for a memorable night.

Memeorable ‘coz Rene at last talked to me that broke the ice (Wow, she can ‘talk’ after all). The dancing queens, Susan Chan & Doreen Ng, looking soooo gorgeous in their attire, I had to take a snapshot with them, sandwitched in between the two (Thanks, Boon Liang. Don’t forget to send me the photo, life-size). Susan Tan, the cute little chilli padi who is the livewire of the party, together with James Tan, they make a perfect husband/wife team at work. Lydia & Francis (sigh!), such a handsome couple when they did their salsa…..”Never the days be lonely again”, as the song goes. Norlinda, apa macham, you never look lovlier after Hari Raya. And the gracious ladies I met for the first time, Jessie, Patsy, Veronique…..how their eyes popped out when told who I was, and their mouth wide opened “huh?” – yes, this is the same “infamous” Chin Boon (uttered a gentleman. I forgot who). Oh yes, our very tall and slim MC, never got a chance to meet her, but got me thinking of Steven Chan…..

Thanks again EOs, for a job well done. It’s worth every penny of the traffic fine I have to pay for illegal parking. Cheers to everyone above!

  22. Chin Boon, Chin Boon…

Next time when you come to Kovan, remember to park your car at Aroozoo Ave, over there…. don’t have the long white line, so you have your peace of mind, sure won’t “kena” fine. Okie…see you tomorrow at cycling, btw I didn’t registered “bam Bam” huh. :)

    Ah Nee

  23. Hi Chinboon @#21

Thanks for your nice compliments about me. Lydia & Francis (sigh!), such a handsome couple when they did their salsa…..”

    1. I and beautiful Lydia Chin did Latin Samba
    2. I and cute little chilli padi Susan Tan did Latin Salsa

Which are you referring to? Francis (sigh!) What does it mean?

    Francis

  24. Hi James and Susan,

Great job, great passionate dancers and the most impressive newbies of SHC, recalling that all of us just knew you only a few months.
Your free easy style of management, welcoming alot of inputs/views from your equally fun-loving, passionate dancers is really a welcome change of fresh inject of fire and artistice expressions, vertical and horziontally and from many dimensions.
It would only encourage more participations from more passionate people like Karzay (newbie with a good MC sting like M.Ali’s Bee) Hamidah, Doreen, Francis, Lydia and I hope in many more areas besides dancing, such, musical performance, comic/dramatic sketches, technical backdropdecorations, maybe Chin Boon doing a magic show with Bam Bam, not a doggie/tiger show I hope, impersonators etc. What we have seen and can conclude is that variety, and willinginess to accept and allow free flow of ideas in a easy management style can invite more participation from all.

Cheers also to all who came to support and stayed till the last performance you are as much as part of the performance as those who are on stage, as we all get to talk, chat and have fun up or down the stage, as Chin Boon stated even paying that amount was worth the time and money. Cheers

  25. Ah Nee, Ah Nee…

I had hard time looking for Paya Lebar C.C., where got time to park my car at the Zoo? It’s not just one long white line, it’s practically a zebra cross lah that got me “kena” fined.
It’s ok if you didn’t register Bam Bam ‘coz he’s allergic to rojak, and so many girls around.

    Francis
You mean you did two dances on a night? sorry lah, I only had eyes on the girls. Of course it’s the latin samba girl I referred to. And that goes for the ‘sigh!’ too, to the handsome couple. Get it?

  26. Chinboon,

    Yup. Got it.

Next time in SHC meetings, I will follow your method, having my eyes, focused only the girls he he

    Francis

  27. Hi Francis,

Hey you are luckier than the rest of the guys. Shining with 3 ladies on the stage. Even James Tan, only once.

    Hi CB,

Wan to shine? Follow him. Get your happy feet moving …. Hey, you got it wrong, Francis & Lydia did samba, me with him SALSA lar….

  28. Hi all,

    Photos uploaded by Oi Cheng.

Search under October 15 Monthly Gathering Program on the 1st Oct posted by James Tan C L.

Thanks Oi Cheng for your support.

  29. Hi EOs & SHCians:
    Thank you all for a really wonderful and enjoyable time :}

Perhaps next time round we need a bigger place like a multi purpose hall would be really great and plus aircon then everything would be just perfect!!!

Looking forward to the next gathering, hands up… please register me thank you

  30. Hi Maureen,

    Thank you for your support.

Your request has been noted! As what James had mentioned in the post, he is working with the CC Management. If ever, and I am very sure, will happen, the multi-function hall will be used for this purpose. Your registration is no. 1 on the list.

    susan tan

  31. Hi all,

The Kovan setting is really unique, that was why when we had our first meeting, some of us immediately felt like performing/dancing spontaneously on that stage which is a raised up platform, enticing performers and viewer alike, and the group did, enjoying a few dances impromptu.

Coupled with the fact that it had a nice cafe ambience afresco style, a pool table, good seating arrangement allowing for small group conversations, board games to be played etc, it is definitely much better than Han’s.

Having the same function as last wed’s event in a closed door community hall, will not provide the same attractions. The audience is left with nothing much to do, no food to eat, no games to play, no small group conversations can take place heartily due to noise and inappropriate sitting etc.

So unless there is such an air-conditioned place that can provide such an atmosphere it will be difficult to beat what Kovan setting provides. Just my view and observations.

By the way since we are on the subject of dancing, there is Deepavali Line Dance Nite on Sat 25th Oct, at Marine Parade CC – Multi purpose hall ( air-con) level 3, from 5 to 9.30pm. Tickets available at $3 (one drink), free seating.
(Approach Michelle for more info on the dance list etc ).

    Cheers

  32. Hi James & Susan!

Congrats on yr performances & being the EO for that nite.
I enjoyed myself very much by just being there.

Hopefully if we could get the hall the next round, it should be free dances just for anyone who’s interested in dancing!
Not for just performers only because not everybody has the time to practise.

We could just dance & destress like the way we did @ Kukup trip!

    Cheers!

  33. Hi Marg Lee!

Could U pls drop me yr e-mail so that we can stay in touch!

Mary Lee of Perth sends her regards to U!

Waiting for yr mail or call.

    Tku!

  34. Hi Ivy Low (HK)

I just saw those photos posted by Oi Cheng. You’re at the 15th gathering, standing next to that little chilli padi? My gosh, you look soooo sophisticated now I wouldn’t have recognised you in a million year. What ever happened to that sweet young innocent Ivy Low when we were colleagues then? Ummm…, 25 or 30 years ago? I don’t see any trace of you in that photo. No wonder I missed you and that long-time-no-see hug. Er….are you the same Ivy Low from HK or is there another Ivy Low? My, how time flies and people mature. You didn’t recognise me either I’ll bet.

  35. Hi CB,

U missed Ivy Low????? I am aware that there are 2 Ivy Low, one from HK and this newbie, who is also my dancing queen fren, I met many years ago and we become good frens after that. So she is not the Ivy Low you are referring, haha.

Hey, see u this afternoon and I am sorry I can’t join you in the rojak, po-piah session. I really miss & crave for good rojak but have to give it a miss. Nevermind, there is always another chance, I will not want to miss it the next time.

    C u!

  36. Ahem! CB@21

I didn’t know that you have been watching the ice melt all this while. Glad that I relieved you of the agony of waiting.

I not only can talk but prefer to walk and disco rock.

After all, you are still the…….”infamous”.

    Have a good weekend!

  37. Aiyo, Chin Boon (#35),

you are very the moong-cha-cha. Perhaps you should take it as a joke played by the two Ivy…hehehe. Ivy Low SH is such a stunner and a super dancing queen. Ivy Low (HK) – this old lady who was your long lost colleague, unfortunately, is a far cry…sorry to disappoint you. As for you CB, your eyes, nose and mouth are still in place but on the whole, you look more like towkay now…this is a compliment hor. Buy me rojak the next time I see you,ok?

    Susan T (#36),

thanks for the clarification. I’ll make it a point to take a picture with my twin sister (in name only) with our name tags on.

    Cheers,

  38. Hi Ivy,

So happened she is one of my good fren. Who knows, she maybe be your lost twin sister, one in HK & one is SIN. Maybe we can meet one of these days. Pls let know when will you be here?

    Hope to see you….

  39. Huh? There is another Ivy Low? Wah-lau eh! Of course I miss the sweet innocent looking Ivy I know in HK. But someone is trying to start an Ivy league in SHC or what. Now we have 2 Ivy’s , 3 Susan’s, 4-5 Catherine’s….., boy, the girls at SHC can drive a man crazy lah. Maybe you should ask the other Ivy to add on her name tag “I am not the IVY LOW of HK” the next occasion. See you in SIN, Ivy Low (HK), you deserve more than rojak and that long-time-no-see hug.

Rene, Rene, now I know why you won’t talk. Am I really that “infamous” that scares you off. Ok, I’m gonna take off that “in” thing and simply become “out-famous” just to hear you talk. (oh btw, thanks, it was a good weekend indeed, seeing u twice in two days at cycling and swim or rather karaoke meet. :-D)

  40. Hi RonW #32,

Thanks for yr encouragement and noted your concern about
    the MF hall at Kovan.

Right now I’m trying to get in touch with the one of the
CCMC members who is also a SHCian.

If, and I must say it’s a big IF, I succeed, both the hall
and the alfresco Tangerine Cafe dining area, will be at our
disposal. We can have performances and chit-chats in the
aircon mf hall while coming out to the open-air cafe for a
bite or a game of chess (not that this can’t be done in-house)

To do that, I’ve to overcome a big hurdle on how to get
the CCMC to grant us the use of the hall for a nominal fee
(FOC is out of the question). Also, our chief is strongly
against the colelction of $ for our monthly gathering so
I’ve to find a way around this problem.

Stay tune for more update while I wait for the CCMC member
to come back from leave in mid-Nov.

Any suggestion on how to move this forward is greatly
    welcom.

  41. Hi James and Susan and Everybody!

It was a great night of connecting with one another, through danccing, chatting, exchanging books, ad simply having fun.

Thanks a lot to the EOs, James and Susan, other appointment holders, and everyone.

It’s my first time attending a SHC monthly meeting and it was a great one!

    Yours for dancing and fun!

    Vivien Ler
