  2. Hi Lily and the bunch of SHC travellers to Fraser’s,

I don’t want to burst your balloon or your interest in Frasers, but the place is really deserted and abandoned.

The hotel is still there but very ‘quiet’. Also there is absolutely nightlife there, no pasar malam, no food stalls, no shops. The place around the clocktower, which used to be the centre of attractions is now completely empty. You will not be able to find food there unless you eat in the hotel, or the guesthouse. The shops around the clocktower have only 1 shop selling old tourist items, 1 shop which sells lunch, (not recommended). The steakhouse is now long gone. I was there this year (I think) and am relating what I saw. I stayed in a Spg guesthouse (recommended) where the caretaker cooked for us (for a fee), also recommended, (organic, I think). But this is possible only if you stay in the guesthouse. The website is aloha something?. I can check if you are interested. Civil servants get a 50% discount.

If you are still interested in going I will suggest going in smaller groups with cars, or arrange with the driver to bring you to KL for 1 or 2 nights, which is only 1 and a half hours journey away. Also the road to Frasers is now not closed with the new road up.

I may be wrong but unless there is a big change in the Msian govt policy towards Frasers, it is not recommended.

Don’t mean to be a party pooper but I hope to be wrong if you go.

    Cheers

  3. Hi Lily,

  4. Hi Charles,

I have not been to this Aloha resort, but from your description, sounds like an excellent place to sleep, eat and do a little exercise during the daytime. As to what to do during the evening, I am now thinking of bringing a 1300W music system, play bollywood disco music and thai cha cha/disco hits every night. Add some Kahlua liquor to our coffee, and we won’t be able to sleep before 2am.

What is a SPG guesthouse? Reminds me of Singapore Party Girl. Really?

Tim, I like the idea of going to Batam again, but would you give this idea a miss, and join us at Frasers. You can smoke all you like, and I shall try to get some Cuban cigars from the Philipines. If there is a fridge, we can have BBQ for breakfast.

Lily/Dolly, am I dreaming? Remember the orgy, I have been trying to organise. Have not been able to make it a success. Got to make it a reality.

CharlesC, thank you for giving us your feedback of your last trip. Guess, we have to be prepared. By the way, what’s the temp?

    Terence Seah

  5. I agree with what Charles has mentioned.
Btw,I was there last year and the place was deserted.
There’s nothing much to do unless you love nature.

I think Batam View is a better choice…..

    just my two cents worth…..

    enjoy!!!

  6. Hi Terence and EOs for Fraser’s trip,

There are some chalets in Singapore (Changi), Cameron Highlds and Fraser’s which are managed by aloha resorts. The website link is “www.aloharesorts.com.sg” The chalets in Fraser’s and CHighlds are very nice, built in the ‘black and white’ style, reminiscent of the Brit colonial days, except the ‘white guests’ are now the locals. They use a lot of granite and wood, have

  7. Hi and Eos again,

Sorry for the typo, will continue here.

The chalets are built with granite and wood, with nice gardens and fireplaces, good for lazing around, having teas, BBQs and steamboats. The caretaker will provide all these for a fee, but only for staying guests, outsiders are not allowed. Fees are reasonable. Temperature night and 22-is so-so, about 20-22 at night, 24-27 in the day. It rains often and the best time to visit is Aug. Many birdwatchers go to Fraser’s to watch the migration, (can’t remember when but Soo will know)

The rates are S$60-S$75 pn, no ‘cramming’ is allowed. Civil service club members who book can get a 50% discount. They can book for all the guests but must be present. This is quite a big saving for all if there are such members around. Book early if you can, especially if you want more rooms. There are 2 chalets there with only (4+5) rooms avail. ie only max of 18 guests.

My refc to SPG guesthouse refers to them as they belong to the Singapore govt. They were leased to ‘Aloha resorts’ who manages them.

There are some tracks to walk but I have not tried them.

There is a 9 hole golf course which is muddy but which novices can try to play as they are not strict with handicaps. I think regular players will not want to play there.

If I stayed there I would drive to KL for some good food and nightlife. You can do this now as they do not close the road at night. Previously the road was closed at 5pm.

I checked with my wife and she said we were there either last year or even earlier, not this year as I said. But it was QUIET. I cannot remember if I was there during Ramadan (probably not) which might account for the quiet.

Otherwise you can have your own party there.

    Best of luck.

  8. Dear Charles & Daniel

Thank you for your feedback. I do not normally organise trips to places that I have not been to myself. Your description is precisely what we are looking for.

If we had wanted crowd & noise, there is no need to leave our shore. Tranquil is such a rarity here.

We will plan our own fun – especially with all the things that Terence intend to bring along.

  9. helo helo…
today in the midst of my very busy day in ofis…i heard a bird whispering
about this get-away trip !..sum yok yok oredi lah..i want to follow boleh tak?..got hope or not eh..got space?..hhhmm..

  10. Hi Lily and EOs,

It’s good you know what to expect and also that is precisely what you are aiming for.

Have a safe trip to Fraser’s.

Now my curiosity is aroused, what are the EOs planning that requires all the solitude and quiet? Can’t be yoga and meditation, pray tell.

  11. Hi CharlesC #22,

Now, I am really excited that you are excited about the Fraser’s trip. This trip is coming up slightly more than a month from today. I can only share my initial reasons, why I am going up to Frasers> My urge is really to find somewhere more quiet and less taxing on the mind.

After seeing the list of participants in the group, I am now wondering if I will get peace and quiet from the trip. Nah, no yoga or meditation. I guess the group will be sleeping everynight after 3am, eat all the unfinished Chinese New Year goodies brought over from Singapore and getting ready to wake up at 8am for BBQ breakfast, surrounded by mist and trees.

For one with some SilverHairs, I guess the thoughts are pretty imaginative.

    Terence Seah

  12. Terence

I highly recommend you bring along a good pair of walking shoe. Frasers have a healthy social life if you include animals as friends. There are birds from the cold north in the winter months some of them come from as far as Syberia. By February most of them may have gone home or on their way. Still, there are lots of local inhabitance.
If you share among yourselves, a local bird guide is not too costly or else the beautiful bird can stand right under your nose and you will still be looking for it.
There are many tracks that are easily assessable and safe, unless you can only walk on concrete and need zebra crossings.
Please don’t kill the ambient by blasting you Hi Fi, try quiet conversations and can make close friends among yourselves.

I pity the animals if they have to sleep through the same level of noise we made in Hans Cafe.

    Have a good time.

  13. Dear James

I assumed only you have backed out and so have replaced your name with that of Shirleen. Susan Tan is still in right?

We are now 20 pax ready to go. Any more joining us or …….. back-out?

  14. Im not backing out definitely!..gg to be noisy & make Terence mabok!…
now he will hv to think twice cos im in this boat!..haha!

Today very busy lah..yet very kiasu…made payment so early b4 i even step in ofis, but not time to inform..sori

So..missy Dolly, as per my sms to you..my POSB transfer transaction ref no. 8229.

Ah Nee/Suzhang…don go yr dept retreat lah..come with us & hv fun again ai mai?
surely lagi bagus …don regret if we tell u hilarious stories!

  15. Hi Nor
Like your style of writing…..so friendly. Wish I can write like that instead of ….. being straight and curt.

Actually, we can close at 20 pax or 26 pax. If 20, we take 2 bungalows of 5 rooms each – just nice. Bus can take upto 26 but for comfort, we take only 22 so that no one have to suffer the last row bumpy ride.

    Hello Sally
Welcome welcome. You’ll be in the 3rd bungalow all by yourself….. haha…..no, no, just kidding lah….hee

  16. Hi Shirleen,

Congratulations for having secure a seat for the Fraser trip.
Kindly make the payment to PSOB savings 005-05999-2.

All Fraserians, have a great trip.

    james

  17. Dear Fellow SHCians

As I am still receiving email & sms requests to join this trip, thought I should post my reply here for other would-be-interested party.

We are already full with two on wait list. On top of that, I only managed to secure 8 rooms instead of 11. We are now on a triple sharing instead of twin sharing and therefore, unable to cater to new request.

    My sincerest apology
    Lily

  18. Hi Terence,

You can pitch your tent in the garden of the guesthouse if you want to. Suggest you borrow a few blankets too, from the g/house as it will be cold.

I tried that some years ago, to intro my kids to camping. When I woke up, all my kids had abandoned me and went back to their rooms to sleep. Admittedly it was cold, especially at 4 am.

    Lily and the EOs,

I think you chose a very good place to stay in Frasers. Always like the g/houses. I had mistakenly thot you were staying in the hotel and hesitated. But it is a good choice

You will have a ball there with the whole chalet to yourselves. But don’t break the peace.

Drink lots of wine n have a safe trip. Cheers

  19. Hi Lily and EOs,

Sorry to inform that due to my poor health, I need to withdraw from this trip. I hope you can find someone to replace me.

    My sincerest apology,
    Anne Chee

  20. Hi Lily

Ready must thanks u for this relaxing trip. No HP , No computer , no houseworks , no kids …(hahaha)

Mind so peaceful for the past 3 days…. On behalf of Jane , Lydia & Sally ..Thanks for organising this trip for the group.

    Sockie/Lily

Thanks for the free line-dance lessons at Fraser Hill.

We look forward to another such trip soon.

    Karen

  21. Hi Lily

Thanks for organising this trip. I enjoyed myself very much and more so that CJ could join this time and for once he really put aside his PDA and work.

It was no fuss, no hustle and surroundings so quiet and peaceful. Good choice for breaks.

Thanks to the dancing lessons from Lily and Sockie. That was a mini workout after dinner and the morning before we left Frasers. Our music were Lily’s and Sockie’s walk, walk, cha cha cha, walk, walk cha cha cha, back back cha cha cha….. Music stop and everyone got lost. Ha ha ha, so funny! Hay Friends, fdo you all still remember your steps or not??

Thanks to my mj kakis too, I had so much fun despite that slight embarrassment. Have to learn more Hokien to enjoy the jokes better. But for now only can “wah mern teen, wah mern teen”…

  22. Hi, Lily and Dolly

Thank you so much for both effort to organise such a wonderful trip. All of us enjoyed it. right.

    God Bless.

    Love from Eyvonne

  23. Hi Guys

Me 2 also enjoyed very much. For the last 3 nites, I can hear tons of laughter ringing in both ears throughout the nite till dawn.

Fraser Hill is definitely a gd plc wif the right ambience to have absolute enjoyment n relaxation.

Guess the next trip is fixed for another hilly resort, Gunung Tak Boleh Tahan.

  24. Yep it was a fun trip. No doubt some nerves were being tested but at the end of the day everyone come back with some fond memories. The MJ game was so hilarious and I had never laughed so much over a mahjong table. And the dancing along the corridor and on the road side is a sight to behold…I don’t think the locals there have seen a crazier bunch then us hahahahah

Thanks to the EOs who made this trip possible and all the hard work and frustration (I hope not too much) that you all have to cope with.

  25. It was a fun and wonderful experience on our way to Fraser Hill. Our initial plan was to drive up but due to the long distance all the drivers have second thoughts.

Desperate measures were taken as getting a coach up was an issue because of the hilly terrains. After much checking about with most of the tour operators we managed to engage two Malaysian drivers in two mini-bus to drive us up.

The journeys was smooth sailing as we hardly encounter any congestion. The two drivers was very good and they were even better tour guides. The various stopover for all our meals and shopping were pretty good recommendations.

Though we were split into two bungalows apart we still managed to enjoy ourselves! The first night we were treated to a Bollywood show recommendated by Terence. On one corner Dan was teaching and playing Chor Tai Tee, in another room some wer dancing away and some were at the mini-mahjong table.

The next day we went birds watching but couldn’t find any birds! Next was our trip to the waterfall, a nice place to relax and to wad in the water. Kwong Wah was unfortunate to be stung by a leech.

The next night was more fun, we had wine and beers and liquor. There was lot of karoeke singing and more dancing. The three meals at the bungalow were delicious. The sleeping arrangements was more than adequate.

Kudos to the Lily, Dolly and Oi Cheng for all the hard work and for overseeing us and ensuring that we have a memorable time on Fraser Hill!

    DanzforJoy!

  26. Woh, Dan from your description of your trip, i envy you all. You must have had a wonderful time together. I like your signoff #50, “DanzforJoy”. It is very well crafted and speaks volume for your feelings. Maybe you could also use this for your dance postings.

  27. Saw the photos.
Choice photo – waterfall leg kicking exercise, all out of step.
Most intimate photo – Terence soles, never seen them so close before and they look especially clean.

  28. The photos taken at Fraser’s are just beautiful. I have to deny the picture of the sole was mine. I think they belong to Lily.

And for the many SHCians who are going on travel trips with other SHCians, you are welcome to send your travel pictures, and share your joy with other members. All photo albums will not carry any advertising materials.

  29. Karen,
i enjoy your youtube video presentation. Interesingly presented and very creative. Certainly they record the happy times you and fellow SHCs had at Fraser Hill trip.

  30. Hi Karen,

Didn’t know that you are so good to put it in sure a nice way. Where can I learn to do like that. Do we need Yew Kwong to conduct another IT lesson?

Btw, the background song chosen was very appropriate, is there a copyright issue here. Don’t want Terence to get into trouble here!

    Dan

  31. Hi All

U will be able to watch the other 3 movies in the you-tube too.

Watch out for the Desaru Cycling – that my favourite.

Danz – Chan & YK is my Sifu for this Movie making and whenever i get into any problem while making this fraser Hill movie … YK is always there to help.

Also A Big Thanks to Chan/Ykwong.

    karen

  32. Hi Karen,

When did you become a movie producer? Very good movie, indeed. I like the ones on the magazine front covers and billboards. Practice makes perfect. At the same time, helps YK to sell his IT classes. Have fun!
